Martin boundaries and integral representations of positive functions which are harmonic in a bounded domain $D$ with respect to Brownian motion are well understood. Unlike the Brownian case, there are two different kinds of harmonicity with respect to a discontinuous symmetric stable process. One kind are functions harmonic in $D$ with respect to the whole process $X$, and the other are functions harmonic in $D$ with respect to the process $X^D$ killed upon leaving $D$. In this paper we show that for bounded Lipschitz domains, the Martin boundary with respect to the killed stable process $X^D$ can be identified with the Euclidean boundary. We further give integral representations for both kinds of positive harmonic functions. Also given is the conditional gauge theorem conditioned according to Martin kernels and the limiting behaviors of the $h$-conditional stable process, where $h$ is a positive harmonic function of $X^D$. In the case when $D$ is a bounded $C^{1, 1}$ domain, sharp estimate on the Martin kernel of $D$ is obtained.
We discuss certain facts involving a continuous local martingale $N$ and its supremum $\bar{N}$. A complete characterization of $(N,\bar{N})$-harmonic functions is proposed. This yields an important family of martingales, the usefulness of which is demonstrated, by means of examples involving the Skorokhod embedding problem, bounds on the law of the supremum, or the local time at 0, of a martingale with a fixed terminal distribution, or yet in some Brownian penalization problems. In particular we obtain new bounds on the law of the local time at 0, which involve the excess wealth order.
In this paper a quantum stochastic integral representation theorem is obtained for unbounded regular martingales with respect to multidimensional quantum noise. This simultaneously extends results of Parthasarathy and Sinha to unbounded martingales and those of the author to multidimensions.
The objective of this paper is to derive a representation of symmetric G-martingales as stochastic integrals with respect to the G-Brownian motion. For this end, we first study some extensions of stochastic calculus with respect to G-martingales under the sublinear expectation spaces.
The article is devoted to the integration order replacement technique for iterated Ito stochastic integrals and iterated stochastic integrals with respect to martingales. We consider the class of iterated Ito stochastic integrals, for which with probability 1 the formulas of integration order replacement corresponding to the rules of classical integral calculus are reasonable. The theorems on integration order replacement for the class of iterated Ito stochastic integrals is proven. Many examples of this theorems usage have been considered. These results are generalized for the class of iterat…
We work in the setting of the progressive enlargement $\mathbb G$ of a reference filtration $\mathbb F$ through the observation of a random time $τ$. We study an integral representation property for some classes of $\mathbb G$-martingales stopped at $τ$. In the first part, we focus on the case where $\mathbb F$ is a Poisson filtration and we establish a predictable representation property with respect to three $\mathbb G$-martingales. In the second part, we relax the assumption that $\mathbb F$ is a Poisson filtration and we assume that $τ$ is an $\mathbb F$-pseudo-stopping time. We establish …
Let the process Y(t) be a Skorohod integral process with respect to Brownian motion. We use a recent result by Tudor (2004), to prove that Y(t) can be represented as the limit of linear combinations of processes that are products of forward and backward Brownian martingales. Such a result is a further step towards the connection between the theory of continuous-time (semi)martingales, and that of anticipating stochastic integration. We establish an explicit link between our results and the classic characterization, due to Duc and Nualart (1990), of the chaotic decomposition of Skorohod integra…
Expansion of Iterated Stochastic Integrals with Respect to Martingale Poisson Measures and with Respect to Martingales Based on Generalized Multiple Fourier Series
Let $\tilde{N}\_{t}$ be a standard compensated Poisson process on $[0,1]$. We prove a new characterization of anticipating integrals of the Skorohod type with respect to $\tilde{N}$, and use it to obtain several counterparts to well established properties of semimartingale stochastic integrals. In particular we show that, if the integrand is sufficiently regular, anticipating Skorohod integral processes with respect to $\tilde{N}$ admit a pointwise representation as usual Itô integrals in an independently enlarged filtration. We apply such a result to: (i) characterize Skorohod integral proces…
Recently, a new approach in the fine analysis of stochastic processes sample paths has been developed to predict the evolution of the local regularity under (pseudo-)differential operators. In this paper, we study the sample paths of continuous martingales and stochastic integrals. We proved that the almost sure 2-microlocal frontier of a martingale can be obtained through the local regularity of its quadratic variation. It allows to link the Hölder regularity of a stochastic integral to the regularity of the integrand and integrator processes. These results provide a methodology to predict th…
We identify the linear space spanned by the real-valued excessive functions of a Markov process with the set of those functions which are quasimartingales when we compose them with the process. Applications to semi-Dirichlet forms are given. We provide a unifying result which clarifies the relations between harmonic, co-harmonic, invariant, co-invariant, martingale and co-martingale functions, showing that in the conservative case they are all the same. Finally, using the co-excessive functions, we present a two-step approach to the existence of invariant probability measures.
We prove existence of boundary limits of ratios of positive harmonic functions for a wide class of Markov processes with jumps and irregular domains, in the context of general metric measure spaces. As a corollary, we prove uniqueness of the Martin kernel at each boundary point, that is, we identify the Martin boundary with the topological boundary. We also prove a Martin representation theorem for harmonic functions. Examples covered by our results include: strictly stable Lévy processes in R^d with positive continuous density of the Lévy measure; stable-like processes in R^d and in domains; …
This paper gives a definition of g-harmonic functions and shows the relation between the g-harmonic functions and g-martingales. It's direct to construct such relation under smooth case, but for continuous case we need the theory of viscosity solution. The results show that under the nonlinear expectation mechanism, we also can get the similar relation between harmonic functions and martingales. Finally, we will give a result about the strict converse problem of mean value property of g-harmonic functions.
A study of a non-linear parabolic SPDEs of the form $\partial_{t}u=\mathcal{L}\,u + σ(u)f(B_t^x,t)\dot{w}$ with $\dot{w}$ as the space-time white noise and $f(B_t^x,t)$ a space-time harmonic function was done. The function $σ:\mathbb{R}\rightarrow\mathbb{R}$ is Lipschitz continuous and $\mathcal{L}$ the $L^2$-generator of a Lévy process. Some precise condition for existence and uniqueness of the solution were given and we show that the solution grows weakly(in law/distribution) in time (for large $t$) at most a precise exponential rate for the $\mathcal{L}$; and grows in time at most a precise…
In this paper we give the decomposition of a martingale under the sublinear expectation associated with a $G$-L'evy process X with finite activity and without drift. We prove that such a martingale consists of an Ito integral w.r.t. continuous part of a $G$-L'evy process, compensated Ito-L'evy integral w.r.t. jump measure associated with $X$ and a non-increasing continuous $G$-martingale starting at 0.
The Martin compactification is investigated for a d-dimensional random walk which is killed when at least one of it's coordinates becomes zero or negative. The limits of the Martin kernel are represented in terms of the harmonic functions of the associated induced Markov chains. It is shown that any sequence of points x_n with lim_n |x_n| = \infty and lim_n x_n/|x_n|= q is fundamental in the Martin compactification if up to the multiplication by constants, the induced Markov chain corresponding to the direction q has a unique positive harmonic function. The full Martin compactification is obta…
In this note, we study the Martin boundary of the simple random walk on an example of directed graph. More precisely, the Martin boundary is shown to be trivial, i.e. there is no non-constant positive harmonic functions. The proof involves fine estimates of the Green function which are summarized in this note.
We compute the $t$-Martin boundary of two-dimensional small steps random walks killed at the boundary of the quarter plane. We further provide explicit expressions for the (generating functions of the) discrete $t$-harmonic functions. Our approach is uniform in $t$, and shows that there are three regimes for the Martin boundary.
Consider an irreducible Markov chain which satisfies a ratio limit theorem, and let $ρ$ be the spectral radius of the chain. We investigate the relation of the the $ρ\,$-Martin boundary with the boundary induced by the $ρ\,$-harmonic kernel which appears in the ratio limit. Special emphasis is on random walks on non-amenable groups, specifically, free groups and hyperbolic groups.
The purpose of this article is to describe all possible beliefs of market participants on objective measures under Markovian environments when a risk-neutral measure is given. To achieve this, we employ the Martin integral representation of Markovian pricing kernels. Then, we offer economic and financial implications of this representation. This representation is useful to analyze the long-term behavior of the state variable in the market. The Ross recovery theorem and the long-term behavior of cash flows are discussed as applications.
We give a representation of the fractional integral for symmetric Markovian semigroups as the projection of martingale transforms and prove the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev(HLS) inequality based on this representation. The proof rests on a new inequality for a fractional Littlewood-Paley $g$-function.
This paper presents the integral(or differential) form of G-BSDEs, gives some kind of apriori estimates of their solutions, and under a very strong condition, proves the G-martingale representation theorem, and the existence and uniqueness theorem of G-BSDEs.
In this paper we introduce the concept of conic martingales}. This class refers to stochastic processes having the martingale property, but that evolve within given (possibly time-dependent) boundaries. We first review some results about the martingale property of solution to driftless stochastic differential equations. We then provide a simple way to construct and handle such processes. Specific attention is paid to martingales in $[0,1]$. One of these martingales proves to be analytically tractable. It is shown that up to shifting and rescaling constants, it is the only martingale (with the …
Let $X$ be a super-Brownian motion (SBM) defined on a domain $E\subset R^n$ and $(X_D)$ be its exit measures indexed by sub-domains of $E$. The relationship between the equation $1/2 Δu=2 u^2$ and Super-Brownian motion (SBM) is analogous to the relationship between Brownian motion and the Laplace's equation, and substantial progress has been made on the study of the solutions of this semi-linear p.d.e. exploring this analogy. An area that remains to be explored is Martin boundary theory. Martin boundary in the semi-linear case is defined as the convex set of extreme $X$-harmonic functions whic…
In this paper, we obtain explicit product and moment formulas for products of iterated integrals generated by families of square integrable martingales associated with an arbitrary Lévy process. We propose a new approach applying the theory of compensated-covariation stable families of martingales. Our main tool is a representation formula for products of elements of a compensated-covariation stable family, which enables to consider Lévy processes, with both jumps and Gaussian part.
We show that for a quantum $L^p$-martingale $(X(t))$, $p>2$, there exists a Doob-Meyer decomposition of the submartingale $(|X(t)|^2)$. A noncommutative counterpart of a classical process continuous with probability one is introduced, and a quantum stochastic integral of such a process with respect to an $L^p$-martingale, $p>2$, is constructed. Using this construction, the uniqueness of the Doob-Meyer decomposition for a quantum martingale `continuous with probability one' is proved, and explicit forms of this decomposition and the quadratic variation process for such a martingale are obtained…
We show an It\^ o's formula for nondegenerate Brownian martingales $X_t=\int_0^t u_s dW_s$ and functions $F(x,t)$ with locally integrable derivatives in $t$ and $x$. We prove that one can express the additional term in Itô's s formula as an integral over space and time with respect to local time.
Generalised Ito formulae are proved for time dependent functions of continuous real valued semi-martingales. The conditions involve left space and time first derivatives, with the left space derivative required to have locally bounded 2-dimensional variation. In particular a class of functions with discontinuous first derivative is included. An estimate of Krylov allows further weakening of these conditions when the semi-martingale is a diffusion.
We study α-harmonic functions on the complement of the sphere and on the complement of the hyperplane in Euclidean spaces of dimension bigger than one, for α\in(1,2). We describe the corresponding Hardy spaces and prove the Fatou theorem for α-harmonic functions. We also give explicit formulas for the Martin kernel of the complement of the sphere and for the harmonic measure, Green function and Martin kernel of the complement of the hyperplane for the symmetric α-stable Lévy processes. Some extensions for the relativistic α-stable processes are discussed.
We develop a nonanticipative calculus for functionals of a continuous semimartingale, using an extension of the Ito formula to path-dependent functionals which possess certain directional derivatives. The construction is based on a pathwise derivative, introduced by Dupire, for functionals on the space of right-continuous functions with left limits. We show that this functional derivative admits a suitable extension to the space of square-integrable martingales. This extension defines a weak derivative which is shown to be the inverse of the Ito integral and which may be viewed as a nonanticip…
We study $β$-Jacobi diffusion processes on alcoves in $\mathbb R^N$, depending on 3 parameters. Using elementary symmetric functions, we present space-time-harmonic functions and martingales for these processes $(X_t)_{t\ge0}$ which are independent from one parameter. This leads to a formula for $\mathbb E(\prod_{i=1}^N (y-X_{t,i}))$ in terms of classical Jacobi polynomials. For $t\to\infty$ this yields a corresponding formula for Jacobi ensembles and thus Aomoto's Selberg integral.
For a general Multidimensional Lévy process (satisfying some moment conditions), we introduce the Multidimensional power jump processes and the related Multidimensional Teugels martingales. Furthermore, we orthogonalize the Multidimensional Teugels martingales by applying Gram-Schmidt process. We give a chaotic representation for every square integral random variable in terms of these orthogonalized Multidimensional Teugels martingales. The predictable representation with respect to the same set of Multidimensional orthogonalized martingales of square integrable random variables and of square …
We find a simple expression for the probability density of $\int \exp (B_s - s/2) ds$ in terms of its distribution function and the distribution function for the time integral of $\exp (B_s + s/2)$. The relation is obtained with a change of measure argument where expectations over events determined by the time integral are replaced by expectations over the entire probability space. We develop precise information concerning the lower tail probabilities for these random variables as well as for time integrals of geometric Brownian motion with arbitrary constant drift. In particular, $E[ \exp\big…
In this article, we develop a martingale approach to localized Bismut-type Hessian formulas for heat semigroups on Riemannian manifolds. Our approach extends the Hessian formulas established by Stroock (1996) and removes in particular the compact manifold restriction. To demonstrate the potential of these formulas, we give as application explicit quantitative local estimates for the Hessian of the heat semigroup, as well as for harmonic functions on regular domains in Riemannian manifolds.
We prove a uniform boundary Harnack inequality for nonnegative harmonic functions of the fractional Laplacian on arbitrary open set $D$. This yields a unique representation of such functions as integrals against measures on $D^c\cup \{\infty\}$ satisfying an integrability condition. The corresponding Martin boundary of $D$ is a subset of the Euclidean boundary determined by an integral test.
We define Wiener integrals with respect to Yeh processes and study their properties. In particular, we obtain the martingale property of the associated stochastic processes and give a series expansion of Wiener integrals with respect to centered Yeh process. Moreover, we derive a representation of an Yeh process in terms of a random series.
Let $\mathbb{Q}$ and $\mathbb{P}$ be equivalent probability measures and let $ψ$ be a $J$-dimensional vector of random variables such that $\frac{d\mathbb{Q}}{d\mathbb{P}}$ and $ψ$ are defined in terms of a weak solution $X$ to a $d$-dimensional stochastic differential equation. Motivated by the problem of \emph{endogenous completeness} in financial economics we present conditions which guarantee that every local martingale under $\mathbb{Q}$ is a stochastic integral with respect to the $J$-dimensional martingale $S_t \set \mathbb{E}^{\mathbb{Q}}[ψ|\mathcal{F}_t]$. While the drift $b=b(t,x)$ a…
This paper focuses on the time-changed Q-Wiener process, a Hilbert space-valued sub-diffusion. It is a martingale with respect to an appropriate filtration, hence a stochastic integral with respect to it is definable. For the resulting integral, two change of variables formulas are derived. Via a duality theorem for integrals, existence and uniqueness theorems for stochastic differential equations (SDEs) driven by the time-changed Q-Wiener process are discussed. Associated fractional Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov equations are derived using either a time-changed Itô formula or duality. Connections …
We prove the existence of uncountably many positive harmonic functions for random walks on the euclidean lattice with non-zero drift, killed when leaving two dimensional convex cones with vertex in 0. Our proof is an adaption of the proof for the positive quadrant from [Ignatiouk-Robert, Loree]. We also make the natural conjecture about the Martin boundary for general convex cones in two dimensions. This is still an open problem and here we only indicate where the proof technique for the positive quadrant breaks down.
In 2012 Lau and Ngai, motivated by the work of Denker and Sato, gave an example of an isotropic Markov chain on the set of finite words over a three letter alphabet, whose Martin boundary is homeomorphic to the Sierpiński gasket. Here, we extend the results of Lau and Ngai to a class of non-isotropic Markov chains. We determine the Martin boundary and show that the minimal Martin boundary is a proper subset of the Martin boundary. In addition, we give a description of the set of harmonic functions.
For any αin (0, 2), a truncated symmetric α-stable process is a symmetric Levy process with no diffusion part and with a Levy density given by c|x|^{-d-α} 1_{|x|< 1} for some constant c. In previous paper we have studied the potential theory of truncated symmetric stable processes. Among other things, we proved that the boundary Harnack principle is valid for the positive harmonic functions of a truncated symmetric stable process in any bounded convex domain and showed that the Martin boundary of any bounded convex domain with respect to this process is the same as the Euclidean boundary. Howe…
In this paper we prove that every random variable of the form $F(M_T)$ with $F:\real^d \to\real$ a Borelian map and $M$ a $d$-dimensional continuous Markov martingale with respect to a Markov filtration $\mathcal{F}$ admits an exact integral representation with respect to $M$, that is, without any orthogonal component. This representation holds true regardless any regularity assumption on $F$. We extend this result to Markovian quadratic growth BSDEs driven by $M$ and show they can be solved without an orthogonal component. To this end, we extend first existence results for such BSDEs under a …
We consider the random walks killed at the boundary of the quarter plane, with homogeneous non-zero jump probabilities to the eight nearest neighbors and drift zero in the interior, and which admit a positive harmonic polynomial of degree three. For these processes, we find the asymptotic of the Green functions along all infinite paths of states, and from this we deduce that the Martin compactification is the one-point compactification.
We determine the asymptotic behavior of the Green function for zero-drift random walks confined to multidimensional convex cones. As a consequence, we prove that there is a unique positive discrete harmonic function for these processes (up to a multiplicative constant); in other words, the Martin boundary reduces to a singleton.
We construct a one-to-one continuous map from the Morse boundary of a hierarchically hyperbolic group to its Martin boundary. This construction is based on deviation inequalities generalizing Ancona's work on hyperbolic groups. This provides a possibly new metrizable topology on the Morse boundary of such groups. We also prove that the Morse boundary has measure 0 with respect to the harmonic measure unless the group is hyperbolic.
A noncommutative Kunita-Watanabe-type representation theorem is established for the martingales of quasifree states of CCR algebras. To this end the basic theory of quasifree stochastic integrals is developed using the abstract Itô integral in symmetric Fock space, whose interaction with the operators of Tomita-Takesaki theory we describe. Our results extend earlier quasifree martingale representation theorems in two ways: the states are no longer assumed to be gauge-invariant, and the multiplicity space may now be infinite-dimensional. The former involves systematic exploitation of Araki's Du…
We study Bessel processes on Weyl chambers of types A and B on $\mathbb R^N$. Using elementary symmetric functions, we present several space-time-harmonic functions and thus martingales for these processes $(X_t)_{t\ge0}$ which are independent from one parameter of these processes. As a consequence, $p(y):=\mathbb E(\prod_{i=1}^N (y-X_t^i))$ can be expressed via classical orthogonal polynomials. Such formulas on characteristic polynomials admit interpretations in random matrix theory where they are partially known by Diaconis, Forrester, and Gamburd.
For finitely supported random walks on finitely generated groups $G$ we prove that the identity map on $G$ extends to a continuous equivariant surjection from the Martin boundary to the Floyd boundary, with preimages of conical points being singletons. This yields new results for relatively hyperbolic groups. Our key estimate relates the Green and Floyd metrics, generalizing results of Ancona for random walks on hyperbolic groups and of Karlsson for quasigeodesics. We then apply these techniques to obtain some results concerning the harmonic measure on the limit sets of geometrically finite is…
We determine the precise asymptotic behaviour (in space) of the Green kernel of simple random walk with drift on the Diestel-Leader graph $DL(q,r)$, where $q,r \ge 2$. The latter is the horocyclic product of two homogeneous trees with respective degrees $q+1$ and $r+1$. When $q=r$, it is the Cayley graph of the wreath product (lamplighter group) ${\mathbb Z}_q \wr {\mathbb Z}$ with respect to a natural set of generators. We describe the full Martin compactification of these random walks on $DL$-graphs and, in particular, lamplighter groups. This completes and provides a better approach to prev…
Determinantal process is a dynamical extension of a determinantal point process such that any spatio-temporal correlation function is given by a determinant specified by a single continuous function called the correlation kernel. Noncolliding diffusion processes are important examples of determinantal processes. In the present lecture, we introduce determinantal martingales and show that if the interacting particle system (IPS) has determinantal-martingale representation, then it becomes a determinantal process. From this point of view, the reason why noncolliding diffusion processes and nonco…
