We prove that if R is a Hensel local ring with infinite residue field k, the natural map H_i(GL(n,R),Z/p) ---> H_i(GL(n,k),Z/p) is an isomorphism for i <=3, p distinct from char(k). This implies rigidity for H_i(GL_n), i <=3, which in turn implies the Friedlander-Milnor conjecture in positive characteristic in degrees <=3.
Given a henselian pair $(R, I)$ of commutative rings, we show that the relative $K$-theory and relative topological cyclic homology with finite coefficients are identified via the cyclotomic trace $K \to \mathrm{TC}$. This yields a generalization of the classical Gabber-Gillet-Thomason-Suslin rigidity theorem (for mod $n$ coefficients, with $n$ invertible in $R$) and McCarthy's theorem on relative $K$-theory (when $I$ is nilpotent). We deduce that the cyclotomic trace is an equivalence in large degrees between $p$-adic $K$-theory and topological cyclic homology for a large class of $p$-adic ri…
We show a conditional exactness statement for the Nisnevich Gersten complex associated to an $\mathbb{A}^1$-invariant cohomology theory with Nisnevich descent for smooth schemes over a Dedekind ring with only infinite residue fields. As an application we derive a Nisnevich analogue of the Bloch-Ogus theorem for étale cohomology over a henselian discrete valuation ring with infinite residue field.
A quadratic form over a Henselian-valued field of arbitrary residue characteristic is tame if it becomes hyperbolic over a tamely ramified extension. The Witt group of tame quadratic forms is shown to be canonically isomorphic to the Witt group of graded quadratic forms over the graded ring associated to the filtration defined by the valuation, hence also isomorphic to a direct sum of copies of the Witt group of the residue field indexed by the value group modulo 2.
In this paper, we prove the $\ell$-adic abelian class field theory for henselian regular local rings of equi-characteristic assuming the surjectivity of Galois symbol maps, which is a $\ell$-adic variant of a result of Matsumi [13].
We describe the third homology of SL_2 of local rings over Z[1/2] in terms of a refined Bloch group. We use this to derive a localization sequence for the third homology of SL_2 of certain discrete valuation rings, and to make explicit computations for p-adic integers and other local rings.
We study the mod $p^r$ Milnor $K$-groups of $p$-adically complete and $p$-henselian rings, establishing in particular a Nesterenko-Suslin style description in terms of the Milnor range of syntomic cohomology. In the case of smooth schemes over complete discrete valuation rings we prove the mod $p^r$ Gersten conjecture for Milnor $K$-theory locally in the Nisnevich topology. In characteristic $p$ we show that the Bloch-Kato-Gabber theorem remains true for valuation rings, and for regular formal schemes in a pro sense.
The note provides a description of the homology of $GL_3$ over function rings of affine elliptic curves over arbitrary fields, following the earlier work of Takahashi and Knudson in the case $GL_2$. Some prospects for applications to K-theory of elliptic curves are also discussed.
Let $K$ be the fraction field of a two-dimensional henselian, excellent, equi-characteristic local domain. We prove a local-global principle for Galois cohomology with finite coefficients over $K$. We use classical machinery from étale cohomology theory, drawing upon an idea in Saito's work on two-dimensional local class field theory. This approach works equally well over the function field of a curve over an equi-characteristic henselian discrete valuation field, thereby giving a different proof of (a slightly generalized version of) a recent result of Harbater, Hartmann and Krashen. We also …
In this paper we compute the Bredon homology of wallpaper groups with respect to the family of finite groups and with coefficients in the complex representation ring. We provide explicit bases of the homology groups in terms of irreducible characters of the representation rings of the stabilizers.
We study the K'-theory of a CM Henselian local ring R of finite Cohen-Macaulay type. We first describe a long exact sequence involving the groups $K_i'(R)$ and the K-groups of certain other rings, including the Auslander algebra. By examining the terms and maps in the sequence, we obtain information about K'(R).
For a commutative ring R with many units, we describe the kernel of H_3(inc): H_3(GL_2(R), Z) --> H_3(GL_3(R), Z). Moreover we show that the elements of this kernel are of order at most two. As an application we study the indecomposable part of K_3(R).
We study the Hochschild homology of the iterated skew polynomial rings introduced by D. Jordan in ``A simple localization of the quantized Weyl algebra''. First, we obtain a complex, smaller than the canonical one of Hochschild, given the homology of such an algebra, and then, we study this complex in order to compute the homology of some families of algebras. In particular we compute the homology of some quantum groups, in the generic case.
We prove that the cyclic homology of a scheme with an ample line bundle coincides with the cyclic homology of its category of algebraic vector bundles. As a byproduct of the proof, we obtain a new construction of the Chern character of a perfect complex on a ringed space.
In the present paper the cyclic homology functor from the category of $A_\infty$-algebras over any commutative unital ring $K$ to the category of graded $K$-modules is constructed. Further, it is showed that this functor sends homotopy equivalences of $A_\infty$-algebras into isomorphisms of graded modules. As a corollary, it is obtained that the cyclic homology of an $A_\infty$-algebra over any field is isomorphic to the cyclic homology of the $A_\infty$-algebra of homologies for the source $A_\infty$-algebra.
We study five different types of the homology of a Lie algebra over a commutative ring which are naturally isomorphic over fields. We show that they are not isomorphic over commutative rings, even over $\mathbb Z,$ and study connections between them. In particular, we show that they are naturally isomorphic in the case of a Lie algebra which is flat as a module. As an auxiliary result we prove that the Koszul complex of a module $M$ over a principal ideal domain that connects the exterior and the symmetric powers $0\to Λ^n M\to M \otimes Λ^{n-1} M \to \dots \to S^{n-1}M \otimes M \to S^nM\to 0…
The dihedral homology functor $HD:A_\infty^{\rm inv}(K)\to GrM(K)$ from the category $A_\infty^{\rm inv}(K)$ of involutive $A_\infty$-algebras over any commutative unital ring $K$ to the category $GrM(K)$ of graded $K$-modules is constructed. Further, it is showed that this functor sends homotopy equivalences of involutive $A_\infty$-algebras into isomorphisms of graded modules.
Let $\{A_m\}$ be a pro system of associative commutative, not necessarily unital, rings. Assume that the pro systems $\{\mathrm{Tor}^{\mathbb{Z}\ltimes A_m}_i(\mathbb{Z},\mathbb{Z})\}_m$ vanish for all $i>0$. Then we prove that the sequence \[ \{H_l(\mathrm{GL}_n(A_m))\}_m \to \{H_l(\mathrm{GL}_{n+1}(A_m))\}_m \to \{H_l(\mathrm{GL}_{n+2}(A_m)\}_m \to \cdots \] stabilizes up to pro isomorphisms for $n$ large enough than $l$ and the stable range of $A_m$'s.
Let L be a strongly Z-graded ring, and let C be a bounded chain complex of finitely generated L-modules. We give a homological characterisation of when C is homotopy equivalent, over L_0, to a bounded complex of finitely generated projective L_0-modules, generalising known results for twisted Laurent polynomial rings.
We improve the homology stability range for the 3rd integral homology of symplectic groups over commutative local rings with infinite residue field. As an application, we show that for local commutative rings containing an infinite field of characteristic not 2 the symbol map from Milnor-Witt K-theory to higher Grothendieck-Witt groups is an isomorphism in degrees 2 and 3.
The multiplicative group of a global field acts on its adele ring by multiplication. We consider the crossed product algebra of the resulting action on the space of Schwartz functions on the adele ring and compute its Hochschild, cyclic and periodic cyclic homology. We also compute the topological K-theory of the C*-algebra crossed product.
The concepts of a dihedral and a reflexive module with $\infty$-simplicial faces are introduced. For each involutive $A_\infty$-algebra, the dihedral and the reflexive tensor modules with $\infty$-simplicial faces are constructed. On the basis of dihedral and reflexive modules with $\infty$-simplicial faces that defined by an involutive $A_\infty$-algebra the constructions of the dihedral and the reflexive homology of involutive $A_\infty$-algebras over any unital commutative rings are given. The conception of an involutive homotopy unital $A_\infty$-algebra is introduced. A long exact sequenc…
We compute the $G$-equivariant homotopy type of the real topological cyclic homology of spherical group rings with anti-involution induced by taking inverses in the group, where $G$ denotes the group $Gal(\mathbb{C}/\mathbb{R})$. The real topological Hochschild homology of a spherical group ring $\mathbb{S}[Γ]$, with anti-involution as described, is an $O(2)$-cyclotomic spectrum and we construct a map commuting with the cyclotomic structures from the $O(2)$-equivariant suspension spectrum of the dihedral bar construction on $Γ$ to the real topological Hochschild homology of $\mathbb{S}[Γ]$, wh…
We consider commutative algebras and chain DG algebras over a fixed commutative ground ring $k$ as in the title. We are concerned with the problem of computing the cyclic (and Hochschild) homology of such algebras via free DG-resolutions $ΛV @>>> A$. We find spectral sequences $$E^2_{p,q}=H_p(ΛV\otimesΓ^q(dV))\Rightarrow HH_{p+q}(ΛV)$$ and $${E'}^2_{\pq}=H_p(ΛV\otimesΓ^{\le q}(dV)) \Rightarrow HC_{p+q}(ΛV)$$ The algebra $ΛV\otimesΓ(dV)$ is a divided power version of the de Rham algebra; in the particular case when $k$ is a field of characteristic zero, the spectral sequences above agree with t…
Recent discoveries make it possible to compute the K-theory of certain rings from their cyclic homology and certain versions of their cdh-cohomology. We extend the work of G. Cortiñas et al. who calculated the K-theory of, in addition to many other varieties, cones over smooth varieties, or equivalently the K-theory of homogeneous polynomial rings. We focus on specific examples of polynomial rings, which happen to be filtered deformations of homogeneous polynomial rings. Along the way, as a secondary result, we will develop a method for computing the periodic cyclic homology of a singular vari…
We discuss which part of the rationalized algebraic K-theory of a group ring is detected via trace maps to Hochschild homology, cyclic homology, periodic cyclic or negative cyclic homology.
Let $Q$ denote MacLane's $Q$-construction, and $\otimes$ denote the smash product of spectra. In this paper we construct an equivalence $Q(R)\simeq \mathbb Z\otimes R$ in the category of $A_\infty$ ring spectra for any ring $R$, thus proving a conjecture made by Fiedorowicz, Schwänzl, Vogt and Waldhausen in "MacLane homology and topological Hochschild homology". More precisely, we construct is a symmetric monoidal structure on $Q$ (in the $\infty$-categorical sense) extending the usual monoidal structure, for which we prove an equivalence $Q(-)\simeq \mathbb Z\otimes -$ as symmetric monoidal f…
We calculate the structure of the finitely-generated groups H_2(SL_2(Z[1/m])) when m is a multiple of 6. We construct explicit homology classes which generate these groups and have prescribed orders. When n is at least 2 and m is the product of the first n primes, we combine our results with those of Jun Morita to deduce that the projection St(2, Z[1/m]) --> SL_2(Z[1/m]) is a universal central extension, where St(2,-) is the rank one Steinberg group. The main structure theorem applies more generally to rings of S-integers with sufficiently many units. For a wide class of rings, the explicit ho…
In this paper the third homology group of the linear group GL_2(R) with integral coefficients is investigated, where R is a commutative ring with many units.
We study the logarithmic topological Hochschild homology of ring spectra with logarithmic structures and establish localization sequences for this theory. Our results apply, for example, to connective covers of periodic ring spectra like real and complex topological K-theory.
We study the Poisson (co)homology of the algebra of truncated polynomials in two variables viewed as the semi-classical limit of a quantum complete intersection studied by Bergh and Erdmann. We show in particular that the Poisson cohomology ring of such a Poisson algebra is isomorphic to the Hochschild cohomology ring of the corresponding quantum complete intersection.
It is well-known that algebraic K-theory preserves products of rings. However, in general, algebraic K-theory does not preserve fiber-products of rings, and bi-relative algebraic K-theory measures the deviation. It was proved by Cortinas that, rationally, bi-relative algebraic K-theory and bi-relative cyclic homology agree. In this paper, we show that, with finite coefficients, bi-relative algebraic K-theory and bi-relative topological cyclic homology agree. As an application, we show that for a, possibly singular, curve over a perfect field of positive characteristic p, the cyclotomic trace ma…
