The assumption in the main result of [Peter W. Michor: Basic Differential Forms for Actions of Lie Groups, Proc. AMS 124, 5 (1996) 1633-1642] is removed. Thus: A section of a Riemannian $G$-manifold $M$ is a closed submanifold $\Si$ which meets each orbit orthogonally. It is shown that the algebra of $G$-invariant differential forms on $M$ which are horizontal in the sense that they kill every vector which is tangent to some orbit, is isomorphic to the algebra of those differential forms on $\Si$ which are invariant with respect to the generalized Weyl group of $\Si$, without any further condition.
This paper computes the obstruction to the existence of equivariant extensions of basic gerbes over non-simply connected compact simple Lie groups. By modifying a (finite dimensional) construction of Gawȩdzki-Reis [J. Geom. Phys. 50(1):28-55, 2004], we exhibit basic equivariant bundle gerbes over non-simply connected compact simple Lie groups.
We define a new version of the exterior derivative on the basic forms of a Riemannian foliation to obtain a new form of basic cohomology that satisfies Poincaré duality in the transversally orientable case. We use this twisted basic cohomology to show relationships between curvature, tautness, and vanishing of the basic Euler characteristic and basic signature.
A new category of Lie algebras, called generalized Lie algebras, is presented such that classical Lie algebras and Lie-Rinehart algebras are objects of this new category. A new philosophy over generalized Lie algebroids theory is presented using the notion of generalized Lie algebra and examples of objects of the category of generalized Lie algebroids are presented. An exterior differential calculus on generalized Lie algebras is pre- sented and a theorem of Maurer-Cartan type is obtained. Supposing that any submodule(vector subbundle) of a generalized Lie algebra(algebroid) is an interior alg…
Let $G$ be a compact, simply connected simple Lie group. We give a construction of an equivariant gerbe with connection on $G$, with equivariant 3-curvature representing a generator of $H^3_G(G,\Z)$. Technical tools developed in this context include a gluing construction for gerbes and a theory of equivariant bundle gerbes.
A classical result in differential geometry states that for a free and proper Lie group action, the quotient map to the orbit space induces an isomorphism between the de Rham complex of differential forms on the orbit space and the basic differential forms on the original manifold. In this paper, this result is generalized to the case of a proper Lie groupoid, in which the orbit space is equipped with the quotient diffeological structure. As an application of this, we obtain a de Rham theorem for the de Rham complex on the orbit space.
In this paper we discuss the question of integrating differential graded Lie algebras (DGLA) to differential graded Lie groups (DGLG). We first recall the classical problem of integration in the context, and present the construction for (non-graded) differential Lie algebras. Then, we define the category of differential graded Lie groups and study its properties. We show how to associate a differential graded Lie algebra to every differential graded Lie group and vice-versa. For the DGLA $\to$ DGLG direction, the main ``tools'' are graded Hopf algebras and Harish-Chandra pairs (HCP) -- we defi…
In this paper we investigate the relations between semispray, nonlinear connection, dynamical covariant derivative and Jacobi endomorphism on Lie algebroids. Using these geometric structures, we study the symmetries of second order differential equations in the general framework of Lie algebroids.
A section of a Riemannian $G$-manifold $M$ is a closed submanifold $Σ$ which meets each orbit orthogonally. It is shown that the algebra of $G$-invariant differential forms on $M$ which are horizontal in the sense that they kill every vector which is tangent to some orbit, is isomorphic to the algebra of those differential forms on $Σ$ which are invariant with respect to the generalized Weyl group of this orbit, under some condition.
An exterior differential calculus in the general framework of generalized Lie algebroids is presented. A theorem of Maurer-Cartan type is obtained. All results with details proofs are presented and a new point of view over exterior differential calculus for Lie algebroids is obtained. Using the theory of linear connections of Ehresmann type presented in the firstt reference, the identities of Cartan and Bianchi type are presented. Supposing that any vector subbundle of the pull-back Lie algebroid of a generalized Lie algebroid is interior differential system (IDS) for that generalized Lie alge…
In this note we study the analytical index of pseudo-differential operators by using the notion of (infinite dimensional) operator-valued symbols (in the sense of Ruzhansky and Turunen). Our main tools will be the McKean-Singer index formula together with the operator-valued functional calculus developed here.
The theory of Lie remarkable equations, i.e. differential equations characterized by their Lie point symmetries, is reviewed and applied to ordinary differential equations. In particular, we consider some relevant Lie algebras of vector fields on $\mathbb{R}^k$ and characterize Lie remarkable equations admitted by the considered Lie algebras.
Differential geometry of the quantum Lie superalgebra of the extended quantum superplane and its Z$_2$-graded Hopf algebra structure is obtained. Its Z$_2$-graded dual Hopf algebra is also given.
The space of differential operators acting on skewsymmetric tensor fields or on smooth forms of a smooth manifold are representations of its Lie algebra of vector fields. We compute the first cohomology spaces of these representations and show how they are related to the cohomology with coefficients in ther space of smooth functions of the manifold.
A theorem of Maurer-Cartan type for Lie algebroids is presented. Suppose that any vector subbundle of a Lie algebroid is called interior differential system (IDS) for that Lie algebroid. A theorem of Cartan type is obtained. Extending the classical notion of exterior differential system (EDS) to Lie algebroids, a theorem of Cartan type is obtained.
Let $M$ be a smooth manifold, $\cal S$ the space of polynomial on fibers functions on $T^*M$ (i.e., of symmetric contravariant tensor fields). We compute the first cohomology space of the Lie algebra, $Vect(M)$, of vector fields on $M$ with coefficients in the space of linear differential operators on $\cal S$. This cohomology space is closely related to the $Vect(M)$-modules, ${\cal D}_λ(M)$, of linear differential operators on the space of tensor densities on $M$ of degree $λ$.
A rather simple natural outer derivation of the graded Lie algebra of all vector valued differential forms with the Frölicher-Nijenhuis bracket turns out to be a differential and gives rise to a cohomology of the manifold, which is functorial under local diffeomorphisms. This cohomology is determined as the direct product of the de Rham cohomology space and the graded Lie algebra of "traceless" vector valued differential forms, equipped with a new natural differential concomitant as graded Lie bracket. We find two graded Lie algebra structures on the space of differential forms. Some consequen…
A general theory of rigid completely integrable analytic partial differential equations is endeavoured. The tube over the light cone in C^3 is shown to be the unique model (up to biholomorphisms) having CR automorphism group of maximal dimension equal to 10. Explicit formulas for the Lie prolongation of vector fields to jets spaces are derived.
Let g be a simplicial Lie algebra with Moore complex Ng of length k. Let G be the simplicial Lie group integrating g, which is simply connected in each simplicial level. We use the 1-jet of the classifying space of G to construct, starting from g, a Lie k-algebra L. The so constructed Lie k-algebra L is actually a differential graded Lie algebra. The differential and the brackets are explicitly described in terms (of a part) of the corresponding k-hypercrossed complex structure of Ng. The result can be seen as a geometric interpretation of Quillen's (purely algebraic) construction of the adjun…
Given a group action, known by its infinitesimal generators, we exhibit a complete set of syzygies on a generating set of differential invariants. For that we elaborate on the reinterpretation of Cartan's moving frame by Fels and Olver (1999). This provides constructive tools for exploring algebras of differential invariants.
We present a differential calculus on the extension of the quantum plane obtained considering that the (bosonic) generator $x$ is invertible and furthermore working polynomials in $\ln x$ instead of polynomials in $x$. We call quantum Lie algebra to this extension and we obtain its Hopf algebra structure and its dual Hopf algebra. Differential geometry of the quantum Lie algebra of the extended quantum plane and its Hopf algebra structure is obtained. Its dual Hopf algebra is also given.
We study the interplay between the differential Galois group and the Lie algebra of infinitesimal symmetries of systems of linear differential equations. We show that some symmetries can be seen as solutions of a hierarchy of linear differential systems. We show that the existence of rational symmetries constrains the differential Galois group in the system in a way that depends of the Maclaurin series of the symmetry along the zero solution.
A realization of coherent state Lie algebras by first-order differential operators with holomorphic polynomial coefficients on Kähler coherent state orbits is presented. Explicit formulas involving the Bernoulli numbers and the structure constants for the semisimple Lie groups are proved.
The main topic of this paper is two folds. First, we compute the first relative cohomology group of the Lie algebra of smooth vector fields on the projective line, Vect(RP^1), with coefficients in the space of bilinear differential operators that act on tensor densities, D_{λ, ν;μ}, vanishing on the Lie algebra sl(2,R). Second, we compute the first cohomology group of the Lie algebra sl(2,R) with coefficients in D_{λ, ν;μ}.
We describe explicitly Lie superalgebra isomorphisms between the Lie superalgebras of first-order superdifferential operators on supermanifolds, showing in particular that any such isomorphism induces a diffeomorphism of the supermanifolds. We also prove that the group of automorphisms of such a Lie superalgebra is a semi-direct product of the subgroup induced by the supermanifold diffeomorphisms and another subgroup which consists of automorphisms determined by even superdivergences. These superdivergences are proven to exist on any supermanifold and their local form is explicitly described a…
For Riemannian submersions with fibers of basic mean curvature, we compare the spectrum of the total space with the spectrum of a Schrödinger operator on the base manifold. Exploiting this concept, we study submersions arising from actions of Lie groups. In this context, we extend the state of the art results on the bottom of the spectrum under Riemannian coverings. As an application, we compute the bottom of the spectrum and the Cheeger constant of connected, amenable Lie groups.
A theory of local convexity for a second order differential equation (SODE) on a Lie algebroid is developed. The particular case when the SODE is homogeneous quadratic is extensively discussed.
If a Lie group acts on a manifold freely and properly, pulling back by the quotient map gives an isomorphism between the differential forms on the quotient manifold and the basic differential forms upstairs. We show that this result remains true for actions that are not necessarily free nor proper, as long as the identity component acts properly, where on the quotient space we take differential forms in the diffeological sense.
We explain that general differential calculus and Lie theory have a common foundation: Lie Calculus is differential calculus, seen from the point of view of Lie theory, by making use of the groupoid concept as link between them. Higher order theory naturally involves higher algebra (n-fold groupoids).(conceptual, topological) differential calculus, groupoids, higher algebra($n$-fold groupoids), Lie group, Lie groupoid, tangent groupoid, cubes of rings
We demonstrate that the notions of derivative representation of a Lie algebra on a vector bundle, of semi-linear representations of a Lie group on a vector bundle, and related concepts, may be understood in terms of representations of Lie algebroids and Lie groupoids, and we indicate how these notions extend to derivative representations of Lie algebroids and semi-linear representations of Lie groupoids in general.
