A partition statistic ` crank' gives combinatorial interpretations for Ramanujan's famous partition congruences. In this paper, we establish an asymptotic formula, Ramanujan type congruences, and q-series identities that the number of partitions with even crank $M_e(n)$ minus the number of partitions with odd crank $M_o(n)$ satisfies. For example, we show that $M_e(5n+4)-M_o(5n+4)\equiv 0 \pmod 5.$ We also determine the exact values of $M_e(n)-M_o(n)$ in case of partitions into distinct parts, which are at most two and zero for infinitely many $n$.
New identities and congruences involving the ranks and cranks of partitions are proved. The proof depends on a new partial differential equation connecting their generating functions.
In this paper we refine a weighted partition identity of Alladi. We write explicit formulas of generating functions for the number of partitions grouped with respect to a partition statistic other than the norm. We tie our weighted results and the different statistics with the crank of a partition. In particular, we prove that the number of partitions into even number of distinct parts whose odd-indexed parts' sum is n is equal to the number of partitions of n with non-negative crank.
In this paper, we discuss a few recent conjectures made by George Beck related to the ranks and cranks of partitions. The conjectures for the rank of a partition were proved by Andrews by using results due to Atkin and Swinnerton-Dyer on a suitable generating function, while the conjectures related to cranks were studied by Shane Chern using weighted partition moments. We revisit the conjectures on the crank of a partition by decomposing the relevant generating function and further explore connections with Apple-Lerch series and tenth order mock theta functions.

Andrews, Garvan and Liang defined the spt-crank of an $S$-partition which leads to combinatorial interpretations of the congruences of $spt(n)$ mod 5 and 7. Andrews and Newman have recently introduced the notion of the mex of a partition, the smallest positive integer that is not a part. The concept has been used since at least 2011, though, with connections to Frobenius symbols. Recently the parity of the mex has been associated to the crank statistic named by Dyson in 1944. In this note, we extend and strengthen the connection between the crank and mex (along with a new generaliztion of the mex) by proving a number of properties that naturally relate these partition statistics.
Families of quasimodular forms arise naturally in many situations such as curve counting on Abelian surfaces and counting ramified covers of orbifolds. In many cases the family of quasimodular forms naturally arises as the coefficients of a Taylor expansion of a Jacobi form. In this note we give examples of such expansions that arise in the study of partition statistics. The crank partition statistic has gathered much interest recently. This note is concerned with the set of integral solutions of the equation $x^2+3y^2=12n+4$, where $n$ is a positive integer. We will describe a parametrization of this set using the 3-core partitions of n. In particular we construct a crank using the action of a suitable subgroup of the isometric group of the plane that we connect with the unit group of the ring of Eisenstein integers. We also show that the process goes in the reverse direction: from the solutions of the equation and the crank, we can describe the 3-core partitions of n. Recent works of Andrews--Newman and Hopkins--Sellers unveil an interesting relation between two partition statistics, the crank and the mex. They state that, for a positive integer $n$, there are as many partitions of $n$ with non-negative crank as partitions of $n$ with odd mex. In this paper, we give a bijective proof of a generalization of this identity provided by Hopkins, Sellers, and Stanton. Our method uses an alternative definition of the Durfee decomposition, whose combinatorial link to the crank was recently studied by Hopkins, Sellers, and Yee.

In this paper, we provide connections between Dyson's crank and unimodal compositions. Somewhat unrelated, we give a combinatorial proof of a new truncated Euler pentagonal number theorem due to Xia and Zhao.
Let $k$ be a positive integer and $m$ be an integer. Garvan's $k$-rank $N_k(m,n)$ is the number of partitions of $n$ into at least $(k-1)$ successive Durfee squares with $k$-rank equal to $m$. In this paper give some asymptotics for $N_k(m,n)$ with $|m|\ge \sqrt{n}$ as $n\rightarrow \infty$. As a corollary, we give a more complete answer for the Dyson's crank distribution conjecture. We also establish some asymptotic formulas for finite differences of $N_k(m,n)$ with respect to $m$ with $m\gg \sqrt{n}\log n$.

The partition crank is a statistic on partitions introduced by Freeman Dyson to explain Ramanujan's congruences. In this paper, we prove that the crank is asymptotically equidistributed modulo Q, for any odd number Q. To prove this, we obtain effective bounds on the error term from Zapata Rolon's asymptotic estimate for the crank function. We then use those bounds to prove the surjectivity and strict log-subadditivity of the crank function.

Using quasimodular forms with respect to $Γ_0(4)$ we find exact relations between the M2-rank for partitions without repeated odd parts and three residual cranks. From these identities we are able to deduce various congruences mod 3 and 5 between the rank and crank moments. In turn, these congruences give congruences for $M2spt(n)$, the number of occurrences of smallest parts in the partitions of $n$ with smallest part even and without repeated odd parts, and for the higher order analog $M2spt_2(n)$.
In this paper, motivated by the work of Mahlburg, we find congruences for a large class of modular forms. Moreover, we generalize the generating function of the Andrews-Garvan-Dyson crank on partition and establish several new infinite families of congruences. In this framework, we showed that both the birank of an ordered pair of partitions introduced by Hammond and Lewis, and $k$-crank of $k$-colored partition introduced by Fu and Tang process the same as the partition function and crank.
In this paper we obtain asymptotic formulas for the Fourier coefficients of an infinite family of crank generating functions. Moreover we use this result to show that the crank obeys certain inequalities. This implies that the crank can not explain any partition congruences in the usual way beside the three deduced by Ramanujan.

We obtain a finite analogue of a recent generalization of an identity in Ramanujan's Notebooks. Differentiating it with respect to one of the parameters leads to a result whose limiting case gives a finite analogue of Andrews' famous identity for $\textup{spt}(n)$. Recently, Amdeberhan and Merca proved some arithmetic properties of the crank parity function $C(n)$ defined as the difference between the number of partitions of $n$ with even cranks and those with odd cranks and the sequence $a(n)$ whose generating function is the reciprocal of that of $C(n)$. The function $C(n)$ was first studied by Choi, Kang, and Lovejoy. In this note, we give new elementary proofs of some of their main results and extend them. We utilize Dyson's concept of the adjoint of a partition to derive an infinite family of new polynomial analogues of Euler's Pentagonal Number Theorem. We streamline Dyson's bijection relating partitions with crank <= k and those with k in the Rank-Set of partitions. Also, we extend Dyson's adjoint of a partition to MacMahon's ``modular'' partitions with modulus 2. This way we find a new combinatorial proof of Gauss's famous identity. We give a direct combinatorial proof that for n>1 the partitions of n with crank k are equinumerous with partitions of n with crank -k.

Andrews, Chan, and Kim recently introduced a modified definition of crank and rank moments for integer partitions that allows the study of both even and odd moments. In this paper, we prove the asymptotic behavior of these moments in all cases, and our main result states that while the two families of moment functions are asymptotically equal, the crank moments are always asymptotically larger than the rank moments. We consider the symmetrized moments of three ranks and cranks, similar to the work of Garvan for the rank and crank of a partition. By using Bailey pairs and elementary rearrangements, we are able to find useful expressions for these moments. We then deduce inequalities between the corresponding ordinary moments. In particular we prove that the crank moment for overpartitions is always larger than the rank moment for overpartitions; with recent asymptotics this was known to hold for sufficiently large values of n for each fixed k. Let $N_k(m,n)$ denote the number of partitions of $n$ with Garvan $k$-rank $m$. It is well-known that Andrews-Garvan-Dyson's crank and Dyson's rank are the $k$-rank for $k=1$ and $k=2$, respectively. In this paper, we prove that the sequence $\{N_k(m,n)\}_{|m|\le n-k-71}$ is log-concave for all sufficiently large $n$ and each integer $k$. In particular, we partially solve the log-concavity conjecture for Andrews-Garvan-Dyson's crank and Dyson's rank, which was independently proposed by Bringmann-Jennings-Shaffer-Mahlburg and Ji-Zang.
It is well known that Ramanujan conjectured congruences modulo powers of 5, 7 and and 11 for the partition function. These were subsequently proved by Watson (1938) and Atkin (1967). In 2009 Choi, Kang, and Lovejoy proved congruences modulo powers of 5 for the crank parity function. The generating function for rank parity function is f(q), which is the first example of a mock theta function that Ramanujan mentioned in his last letter to Hardy. We prove congruences modulo powers of 5 for the rank parity function.

In order to provide a unified combinatorial interpretation of congruences modulo $5$ for 2-colored partition functions, Garvan introduced a bicrank statistic in terms of weighted vector partitions. In this paper, we obtain some inequalities between the bicrank counts $M^{*}(r,m,n)$ for $m=2$, $3$ and $4$ via their asymptotic formulas and some $q$-series techniques. These inequalities are parallel to Andrews and Lewis' results on the rank and crank counts for ordinary partitions.
We obtain a combinatorial proof of a surprising weighted partition equality of Berkovich and Uncu. Our proof naturally leads to a formula for the number of partitions with a given parity of the smallest part, in terms of S(i), the number of partitions of i into distinct parts with even rank minus the number with odd rank, for which there is an almost closed formula by Andrews, Dyson and Hickerson. This method of calculating the number of partitions of n with a given parity of the smallest part is practical and efficient.
In 2003, Hammond and Lewis defined a statistic on partitions into 2 colors which combinatorially explains certain well known partition congruences mod 5. We give two analogs of Hammond and Lewis's birank statistic. One analog is in terms of Dyson's rank and the second uses the 5-core crank due to Garvan, Kim and Stanton. We discuss Andrews's bicrank statistic and how it may be extended. We also generalize the Hammond-Lewis birank to a multirank for multipartitions and the Andrews bicrank to a multicrank for extended multipartitions.
