We study the pathwise regularity of the map $$ ϕ\mapsto I(ϕ) = \int_0^T < ϕ(X_t), dX_t>$$ where $ϕ$ is a vector function on $\R^d$ belonging to some Banach space $V$, $X$ is a stochastic process and the integral is some version of a stochastic integral defined via regularization. A \emph{stochastic current} is a continuous version of this map, seen as a random element of the topological dual of $V$. We give sufficient conditions for the current to live in some Sobolev space of distributions and we provide elements to conjecture that those are also necessary. Next we verify the sufficient conditions when the process $X$ is a $d$-dimensional fractional Brownian motion (fBm); we identify regularity in Sobolev spaces for fBm with Hurst index $H \in (1/4,1)$. Next we provide some results about general Sobolev regularity of Brownian currents. Finally we discuss applications to a model of random vortex filaments in turbulent fluids.
We study the pointwise regularity of the Multifractional Brownian Motion and in particular, we get the existence of slow points. It shows that a non self-similar process can still enjoy this property. We also consider various extensions of our results in the aim of requesting a weaker regularity assumption for the Hurst function without altering the regularity of the process.
In this paper, we obtain the existence and uniqueness theorem for backward stochastic differential equation driven by G-Brownian motion (G-BSDE) under degenerate case. Moreover, we propose a new probabilistic method based on the representation theorem of G-expectation and weak convergence to obtain the regularity of fully nonlinear PDE associated to G-BSDE.
In this work, we will show the existence and uniqueness of the solution to the semi linear stochastic differential equations driven by weighted fractional Brownian motion with delay. We also prove smoothness of the density of the solution with respect to Lebesgue's measure on R^d for $d \geq 1$.
We apply improved elliptic regularity results to a concrete symmetric Dirichlet form and various non-symmetric Dirichlet forms with possibly degenerate symmetric diffusion matrix. Given the (non)-symmetric Dirichlet form, using elliptic regularity results and stochastic calculus we show weak existence of the corresponding singular stochastic differential equation for any starting point in some subset E of R^d. As an application of our approach we can show the existence of n-regularized Liouville Brownian motion only via Dirichlet form theory starting from all points in R^2.
In this paper we prove, for small Hurst parameters, the higher order differentiability of a stochastic flow associated with a stochastic differential equation driven by an additive multi-dimensional fractional Brownian noise, where the bounded variation part is given by the local time of the unknown solution process. The proof of this result relies on Fourier analysis based variational calculus techniques and on intrinsic properties of the fractional Brownian motion.
By using Malliavin calculus and multiple Wiener-Itô integrals, we study the existence and the regularity of stochastic currents defined as Skorohod (divergence) integrals with respect to the Brownian motion and to the fractional Brownian motion. We consider also the multidimensional multiparameter case and we compare the regularity of the current as a distribution in negative Sobolev spaces with its regularity in Watanabe space.
\def\R{\mathbb R} We give a characterization of G-regularity for super-Brownian motion and the Brownian snake. More precisely, we define a capacity on $E=(0,\infty)\times \R^d$, which is not invariant by translation. We then prove that the hitting probability of a Borel set $A\subset E$ for the graph of the Brownian snake starting at $(0,0)$ is comparable, up to multiplicative constants, to its capacity. This implies that super-Brownian motion started at time 0 at the Dirac mass $δ_0$ hits immediately $A$ (that is $(0,0)$ is G-regular for $A^c$) if and only if its capacity is infinite. As a di…
This paper seeks a quantitative comparison between the curves in the KPZ line ensemble [CH16] and a standard Brownian bridge under the $t^{1/3}$ vertical and $t^{2/3}$ horizontal scaling. The estimate we obtained is parallel to the one established in [Ham1], where the Airy line ensemble was studied. Our main tool is the soft Brownian Gibbs property enjoyed by the KPZ line ensemble. In view of the Gibbs property, the KPZ line ensemble differs from the Airy line ensemble mainly due to the intersecting nature of its curves, which results in the main technical difficulty in this paper. We develop …
Our aim in this paper is to improve Hölder continuity results for the bifractional Brownian motion (bBm) $(B^{α,β}(t))_{t\in[0,1] }$ with $0<α<1$ and $0<β\leq 1$. We prove that almost all paths of the bBm belong (resp. do not belong) to the Besov spaces $\mathbf{Bes}(αβ,p)$ (resp. $\mathbf{bes}(αβ,p)$) for any $\frac{1}{αβ}<p<\infty$, where $\mathbf{bes}(αβ,p)$ is a separable subspace of $\mathbf{Bes}(αβ,p)$. We also show the Itô-Nisio theorem for the bBm with $αβ>\frac{1}{2}$ in the Hölder spaces $\mathcal{C}^γ$, with $γ<αβ$.
By the work of P. Lévy, the sample paths of the Brownian motion are known to satisfy a certain Hölder regularity condition almost surely. This was later improved by Ciesielski, who studied the regularity of these paths in Besov and Besov-Orlicz spaces. We review these results and propose new function spaces of Besov type, strictly smaller than those of Ciesielski and Lévy, where the sample paths of the Brownian motion lie in almost surely. In the same spirit, we review and extend the work of Kamont, who investigated the same question for the multivariate Brownian sheet and function spaces of d…
This paper studies the regularity properties of the density of the exit measure for super-Brownian motion with (1+β)-stable branching mechanism. It establishes the continuity of the density in dimension d=2 and the unboundedness of the density in all other dimensions where the density exists. An alternative description of the exit measure and its density is also given via a stochastic integral representation. Results are applied to the probabilistic representation of nonnegative solutions of the partial differential equation Δu=u^{1+β}.
This paper presents a new estimator of the global regularity index of a multifractional Brownian motion. Our estimation method is based upon a ratio statistic, which compares the realized global quadratic variation of a multifractional Brownian motion at two different frequencies. We show that a logarithmic transformation of this statistic converges in probability to the minimum of the Hurst function, which is, under weak assumptions, identical to the global regularity index of the path.
We systematically develop general tools to apply Fukushima's absolute continuity condition. These tools comprise methods to obtain a Hunt process on a locally compact separable metric state space whose transition function has a density w.r.t. the reference measure and methods to estimate drift potentials comfortably. We then apply our results to distorted Brownian motions and construct weak solutions to singular stochastic differential equations, i.e. equations with possibly unbounded and discontinuous drift and reflection terms which may be the sum of countably many local times. The solutions…
We announce a result on the existence of a unique local solution to a stochastic geometric wave equation on the one dimensional Minkowski space $\mathbb{R}^{1+1}$ with values in an arbitrary compact Riemannian manifold. We consider a rough initial data in the sense that its regularity is lower than the energy critical.
Let $B^{α_i}$ be an $(N_i,d)$-fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index ${α_i}$ ($i=1,2$), and let $B^{α_1}$ and $B^{α_2}$ be independent. We prove that, if $\frac{N_1}{α_1}+\frac{N_2}{α_2}>d$, then the intersection local times of $B^{α_1}$ and $B^{α_2}$ exist, and have a continuous version. We also establish Hölder conditions for the intersection local times and determine the Hausdorff and packing dimensions of the sets of intersection times and intersection points. One of the main motivations of this paper is from the results of Nualart and Ortiz-Latorre ({\it J. Theor. Probab.} {\bf 20} (…
Multifractional Brownian motion is an extension of the well-known fractional Brownian motion where the Holder regularity is allowed to vary along the paths. In this paper, two kind of multi-parameter extensions of mBm are studied: one is isotropic while the other is not. For each of these processes, a moving average representation, a harmonizable representation, and the covariance structure are given. The Holder regularity is then studied. In particular, the case of an irregular exponent function H is investigated. In this situation, the almost sure pointwise and local Holder exponents of the …
We extend to the vector-valued situation some earlier work of Ciesielski and Roynette on the Besov regularity of the paths of the classical Brownian motion. We also consider a Brownian motion as a Besov space valued random variable. It turns out that a Brownian motion, in this interpretation, is a Gaussian random variable with some pathological properties. We prove estimates for the first moment of the Besov norm of a Brownian motion. To obtain such results we estimate expressions of the form $\E \sup_{n\geq 1}\|ξ_n\|$, where the $ξ_n$ are independent centered Gaussian random variables with va…
A class of Gaussian processes generalizing the usual fractional Brownian motion for Hurst indices in (1/2,1) and multifractal Brownian motion introduced in Ralchenko and Shevchenko (Theory Probab Math Stat 80, 2010) and Boufoussi et al. (Bernoulli 16(4), 2010) is presented. Any measurable function assuming values in this interval can now be chosen as a variable Hurst parameter. These processes allow for modeling of phenomena where the regularity properties can change with time either continuously or through jumps, such as in the volatility of a stock or in Internet traffic. Some properties of …
Using structures of Abstract Wiener Spaces, we define a fractional Brownian field indexed by a product space $(0,1/2] \times L^2(T,m)$, $(T,m)$ a separable measure space, where the first coordinate corresponds to the Hurst parameter of fractional Brownian motion. This field encompasses a large class of existing fractional Brownian processes, such as Lévy fractional Brownian motions and multiparameter fractional Brownian motions, and provides a setup for new ones. We prove that it has satisfactory incremental variance in both coordinates and derive certain continuity and Hölder regularity prope…
Sobolev regularity theory for stochastic reaction-diffusion-advection equations with spatially homogeneous colored noises and infinitesimal generators of subordinate Brownian motions
In this paper, we consider a product of a symmetric stable process in $\mathbb{R}^d$ and a one-dimensional Brownian motion in $\mathbb{R}^+$. Then we define a class of harmonic functions with respect to this product process. We show that bounded non-negative harmonic functions in the upper-half space satisfy Harnack inequality and prove that they are locally Hölder continuous. We also argue a result on Littlewood-Paley functions which are obtained by the $α$-harmonic extension of an $L^p(\mathbb{R}^d)$ function.
We consider a mixed stochastic differential equation driven by possibly dependent fractional Brownian motion and Brownian motion. Under mild regularity assumptions on the coefficients, it is proved that the equation has a unique solution.
We show that solutions of free stochastic differential equations with regular drifts and diffusion coefficients, when considered backwards in time, still satisfy free SDEs for an explicit free Brownian motion and drift. We also study the stochastic integral part with respect to this reversed free Brownian motion of canonical closed martingales. We deduce that conjugate variables computed along a free Brownian motion, an example of such a reversed martingale appearing in the definition of non-microstates free entropy, are in the $L^2$ domain of corresponding free difference quotients for almost…
This paper studies time changes of Brownian motions by positive continuous additive functionals. Under a certain regularity condition on the associated Revuz measures, we prove that the resolvents of the time-changed Brownian motions are locally Hölder continuous in the spatial components. We also obtain lower bounds for the indice of the Hölder continuity.
It is a well-known fact that finite rho-variation of the covariance (in 2D sense) of a general Gaussian process implies finite rho-variation of Cameron-Martin paths. In the special case of fractional Brownian motion (think: 2H=1/rho), in the rougher than Brownian regime, a sharper result holds thanks to a Besov-type embedding [Friz-Victoir, JFA, 2006]. In the present note we give a general result which closes this gap. We comment on the importance of this result for various applications.
The paths of Brownian motion have been widely studied in the recent years relatively in Besov spaces $B_{p, \infty}^\a$. The results are the same as to the Brownian bridge. In fact these regularities properties are established in some sequence spaces $S_{p, \infty}^\a$ using an isomorphisim between them and $B_{p, \infty}^\a$. In this note, we are concerned with the regularity of the paths of the continuous version of the uniform empirical process in the space $S_{p, \infty}^\a$ and in one of his separable sub space $S_{p, \infty}^{\a, 0}$ for a suitable choice of $\a$ and $p$.
This paper presents some asymptotic results for statistics of Brownian semi-stationary (BSS) processes. More precisely, we consider power variations of BSS processes, which are based on high frequency (possibly higher order) differences of the BSS model. We review the limit theory discussed in [Barndorff-Nielsen, O.E., J.M. Corcuera and M. Podolskij (2011): Multipower variation for Brownian semistationary processes. Bernoulli 17(4), 1159-1194; Barndorff-Nielsen, O.E., J.M. Corcuera and M. Podolskij (2012): Limit theorems for functionals of higher order differences of Brownian semi-stationary p…
In this paper, we study the existence and (Hölder) regularity of local times of stochastic differential equations driven by fractional Brownian motions. In particular, we show that in one dimension and in the rough case H<1/2, the Hölder exponent (in t) of the local time is 1-H, where H is the Hurst parameter of the driving fractional Brownian motion.
For a mixed stochastic differential driven by independent fractional Brownian motions and Wiener processes, the existence and integrability of the Malliavin derivative of its solution are established. It is also proved that the solution possesses exponential moments.
In this paper, we develop a Young integration theory in dimension 2 which will allow us to solve a non-linear one dimensional wave equation driven by an arbitrary signal whose rectangular increments satisfy some Hölder regularity conditions, for some Hölder exponent greater than 1/2. This result will be applied to the infinite dimensional fractional Brownian motion.
Optimal sample path properties of stochastic processes often involve generalized Hölder- or variation norms. Following a classical result of Taylor, the exact variation of Brownian motion is measured in terms of $ψ(x) \equiv $ $x^{2}/\log \log (1/x) $ near $0+$. Such $ψ$-variation results extend to classes of processes with values in abstract metric spaces. (No Gaussian or Markovian properties are assumed.) To establish integrability properties of the $ψ$-variation we turn to a large class of Gaussian rough paths (e.g. Brownian motion and Lévy's area viewed as a process in a Lie group) and pro…
In this work we present a condition for the regularity, in both space and Malliavin sense, of strong solutions to SDEs driven by Brownian motion. We conjecture that this condition is optimal. As a consequence, we are able to improve the regularity of densities of such solutions. We also apply these results to construct a classical solution to the stochastic transport equation when the drift is Lipschitz.
A quenched large deviation principle for Brownian motion in a non-negative, stationary potential is proved. A sufficient moment condition on the potential is given but unlike the results of Armstrong and Tran (2014) no regularity is assumed. The proof is based on a method developed by Sznitman (1994) for Brownian motion among Poissonian potential. In particular, the LDP holds for potentials with polynomially decaying correlations such as the classical potentials studied by L. Pastur (1977) and R. Fukushima (2008) and the potentials recently introduced by H. Lacoin (2012).
We study the stochastic heat equation driven by an additive infinite dimensional fractional Brownian noise on the unit sphere $\mathbb{S}^{2}$. The existence and uniqueness of its solution in certain Sobolev space is investigated and sample path regularity properties are established. In particular, the exact uniform modulus of continuity of the solution in time/spatial variable is derived.
In this article we are interested in the regularity properties of the probability measure induced by the solution process of the Lévy noise or a fractional Brownian motion driven Navier Stokes Equation on the two dimensional torus $\mathbb{T}$. We mainly investigate under which conditions on the characteristic measure of the Lévy process or the Hurst parameter of the fractal Brownian motion the law of the projection of $u(t)$ onto any finite dimensional $F\subset L^2(\mathbb{T})$ is absolutely continuous with respect to the Lebesgue measure on $F$.
This paper generalizes the integration theory for volatility modulated Brownian-driven Volterra processes onto the space G* of Potthoff-Timpel distributions. Sufficient conditions for integrability of generalized processes are given, regularity results and properties of the integral are discussed. We introduce a new volatility modulation method through the Wick product and discuss its relation to the pointwise-multiplied volatility model.
A lot is known about the Hölder regularity of stochastic processes, in particular in the case of Gaussian processes. Recently, a finer analysis of the local regularity of functions, termed 2-microlocal analysis, has been introduced in a deterministic frame: through the computation of the so-called 2-microlocal frontier, it allows in particular to predict the evolution of regularity under the action of (pseudo-) differential operators. In this work, we develop a 2-microlocal analysis for the study of certain stochastic processes. We show that moments of the increments allow, under fairly genera…
We prove that the weak version of the SPDE problem \begin{align*} dV_{t}(x) & = [-μV_{t}'(x) + \frac{1}{2} (σ_{M}^{2} + σ_{I}^{2})V_{t}"(x)]dt - σ_{M} V_{t}'(x)dW^{M}_{t}, \quad x > 0, \\ V_{t}(0) &= 0 \end{align*} with a specified bounded initial density, $V_{0}$, and $W$ a standard Brownian motion, has a unique solution in the class of finite-measure valued processes. The solution has a smooth density process which has a probabilistic representation and shows degeneracy near the absorbing boundary. In the language of weighted Sobolev spaces, we describe the precise order of integrability of …
We present a method that allows, under suitable equivariance and regularity conditions, to determine the Poisson boundary of a diffusion starting from the Poisson boundary of a sub-diffusion of the original one. We then give two examples of application of this dévissage method. Namely, we first recover the classical result that the Poisson boundary of Brownian motion on a rotationally symmetric manifolds is generated by its escape angle, and we then give an "elementary" probabilistic proof of the delicate result of [Bai08], i.e. the determination of the Poisson boundary of the relativistic Bro…
We prove the convergence of the extremal processes for variable speed branching Brownian motions where the "speed functions", that describe the time-inhomogeneous variance, lie strictly below their concave hull and satisfy a certain weak regularity condition. These limiting objects are universal in the sense that they only depend on the slope of the speed function at $0$ and the final time $t$. The proof is based on previous results for two-speed BBM obtained in a recent paper of ours and uses Gaussian comparison arguments to extend these to the general case.
We consider a system of $d$ linear stochastic heat equations driven by an additive infinite-dimensional fractional Brownian noise on the unit circle $S^1$. We obtain sharp results on the Hölder continuity in time of the paths of the solution $u=\{u(t, x)\}_{t \in \mathbb{R}_+, x \in S^1}$. We then establish upper and lower bounds on hitting probabilities of $u$, in terms of respectively Hausdorff measure and Newtonian capacity.
We consider stochastic differential systems driven by a Brownian motion and a Poisson point measure where the intensity measure of jumps depends on the solution. This behavior is natural for several physical models (such as Boltzmann equation, piecewise deterministic Markov processes, etc). First, we give sufficient conditions guaranteeing that the semigroup associated with such an equation preserves regularity by mapping the space of the of k-times differentiable bounded functions into itself. Furthermore, we give an explicit estimate of the operator norm. This is the key-ingredient in a quan…
Let $B^{H}$ be a $d$-dimensional fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index $H\in(0,1)$, $f:[0,1]\longrightarrow\mathbb{R}^{d}$ a Borel function, and $E\subset[0,1]$, $F\subset\mathbb{R}^{d}$ are given Borel sets. The focus of this paper is on hitting probabilities of the fractional Brownian motion $B^{H}$ with the deterministic drift $f$. It aims to highlight the role of the regularity properties of the drift $f$ as well as that of the dimension of $E$ in determining the upper and lower bounds of $\mathbb{P}\{(B^H+f)(E)\cap F\neq \emptyset \}$ for $F$ a subset of $\mathbb{R}^{d}$ and also fo…
We consider a stochastic boundary value elliptic problem on a bounded domain $D\subset \mathbb{R}^k$, driven by a fractional Brownian field with Hurst parameter $H=(H_1,...,H_k)\in[{1/2},1[^k$. First we define the stochastic convolution derived from the Green kernel and prove some properties. Using monotonicity methods, we prove existence and uniqueness of solution, along with regularity of the sample paths. Finally, we propose a sequence of lattice approximations and prove its convergence to the solution of the SPDE at a given rate.
Let $B^{H, K}= \big\{B^{H, K}(t), t \in \R_+ \big\}$ be a bifractional Brownian motion in $\R^d$. We prove that $B^{H, K}$ is strongly locally nondeterministic. Applying this property and a stochastic integral representation of $B^{H, K}$, we establish Chung's law of the iterated logarithm for $B^{H, K}$, as well as sharp Hölder conditions and tail probability estimates for the local times of $B^{H, K}$. We also consider the existence and the regularity of the local times of multiparameter bifractional Brownian motion $B^{\bar{H}, \bar{K}}= \big\{B^{\bar{H}, \bar{K}}(t), t \in \R^N_+ \big\}$ i…
We give meaning to differential equations with a rough path term and a Brownian noise term as driving signals. Such differential equations as well as the question of regularity of the solution map arise naturally and we discuss two applications: one revisits Clark's robustness problem in nonlinear filtering, the other is a Feynman--Kac type representation of linear RPDEs. En passant, we give a short and direct argument that implies integrability estimates for rough differential equations with Gaussian driving signals which is of independent interest.
