Let $G$ be a graph, $χ(G)$ be the minimal number of colors which can be assigned to the vertices of $G$ in such a way that every two adjacent vertices have different colors and $ω(G)$ to be the least upper bound of the size of the complete subgraphs contained in $G$. It is well-known that $χ(G)\geq ω(G)$. Beck in \cite{b} conjectured that $χ(Γ_0(R))=ω(Γ_0(R))$ if $ω(Γ_0(R))<\infty$, where $Γ_0(R)$ is a graph associated to a commutative ring $R$. In this note, we provide some sufficient conditions for a ring $R$ to enjoy $χ(Γ_0(R))=ω(Γ_0(R))$. As a consequence, we verify Beck's conjecture for the homomorphic image of $\mathbb{Z}^n$.
In this paper, we characterize chordal and perfect zero-divisor graphs of finite posets. Also, it is proved that the zero-divisor graphs of finite posets and the complement of zero-divisor graphs of finite $0$-distributive posets satisfy the Total Coloring Conjecture. These results are applied to the zero-divisor graphs of finite reduced rings, the comaximal ideal graph of rings, the annihilating ideal graphs, the intersection graphs of ideals of rings, and the intersection graphs of subgroups of cyclic groups. In fact, it is proved that these graphs associated with a commutative ring $R$ with…
For a commutative semigroup $S$ with 0, the zero-divisor graph of $S$ denoted by $Γ(S)$ is the graph whose vertices are nonzero zero-divisor of $S$, and two vertices $x$, $y$ are adjacent in case $xy=0$ in $S$. In this paper we study the case where the graph $Γ(S)$ is complete $r$-partite for a positive integer $r$. Also we study the commutative semigroups which are finitely colorable.
We study the zero divisor graph determined by equivalence classes of zero divisors of a commutative Noetherian ring R. We demonstrate how to recover information about R from this structure. In particular, we determine how to identify associated primes from the graph.
Inspired by a very recent work of A. Ðurić, S. Jevđenić and N. Stopar, we introduce a new definition of zero-divisor graphs attached to rings, that includes all of the classical definitions already known in the literature. We provide an interpretation of such graphs as images of a functor, that we call zero-divisor functor and which is associated with a family of special equivalence relations fixed beforehand. We thus recover and generalize many known results for zero-divisor graphs and provide a framework which might be useful for further investigations on this topic.
The concept of a sequence of exact zero-divisors on a noetherian local ring is defined and studied. Some properties of sequences of exact zero-divisors are compared with regular sequences.
Let S be a standard graded Artinian algebra over a field k. We identify constraints on the Hilbert function of S which are imposed by the hypothesis that S contains an exact pair of homogeneous zero divisors. As a consequence, we prove that if S is a compressed level algebra, then S does not contain any homogeneous zero divisors.
In this article, we prove that in content extentions minimal primes extend to minimal primes and discuss zero-divisors of a content algebra over a ring who has Property (A) or whose set of zero-divisors is a finite union of prime ideals. We also examine the preservation of diameter of zero-divisor graph under content extensions.
In this paper, we introduce a new graph whose vertices are the nonzero zero-divisors of commutative ring $R$ and for distincts elements $x$ and $y$ in the set $Z(R)^{\star}$ of the nonzero zero-divisors of $R$, $x$ and $y$ are adjacent if and only if $xy=0$ or $x+y\in Z(R)$. we present some properties and examples of this graph and we study his relation with the zero-divisor graph and with a subgraph of total graph of a commutative ring.
We continue our study of the new extension of zero-divisor graph. We give a complete characterization for the possible diameters of $\widetildeΓ(R)$ and $\widetildeΓ(R[x_1,\dots,x_n])$, we investigate the relation between the zero-divisor graph, the subgraph of total graph on $Z(R)^{\star}$ and $\widetildeΓ(R)$ and we present some other properties of $\widetildeΓ(R)$.
We extend to rings with zero-divisors the concept of perinormal domain introduced by N. Epstein and J. Shapiro. A ring $A$ is called perinormal if every overring of $A$ which satisfies going down over $A$ is $A$-flat. The Prüfer rings and the Marot Krull rings are perinormal.
Much work has been done on generalized factorization techniques in integral domains, namely $τ$-factorization. There has also been substantial progress made in investigating factorization in commutative rings with zero-divisors. There are many ways authors have decided to study factorization when zero-divisors present. This paper focuses on the method $τ$-complete factorizations developed by D.D. Anderson and A. Frazier. There is a natural way to extend $τ$-complete factorization to commutative rings with zero-divisors. $τ$-complete factorization is a natural way to think of refining factoriza…
In Section 1 of the paper, we prove McCoy's property for the zero-divisors of polynomials in semirings. We also investigate zero-divisors of semimodules and prove that under suitable conditions, the monoid semimodule $M[G]$ has very few zero-divisors if and only if the $S$-semimodule $M$ does so. The concept of Auslander semimodules are introduced in this section as well. In Section 2, we introduce Ohm-Rush and McCoy semialgebras and prove some interesting results for prime ideals of monoid semirings. In Section 3, we investigate the set of zero-divisors of McCoy semialgebras. We also introduc…
Recently there has been a flurry of research on generalized factorization techniques in both integral domains and rings with zero-divisors, namely $τ$-factorization. There are several ways that authors have studied factorization in rings with zero-divisors. This paper focuses on the method of regular factorizations introduced by D.D. Anderson and S. Valdes-Leon. We investigate how one can extend the notion of $τ$-factorization to commutative rings with zero-divisors by using the regular factorization approach. The study of regular factorization is particularly effective because the distinct no…
We study the homological behavior of modules over local rings modulo exact zero-divisors. We obtain new results which are in some sense "opposite" to those known for modules over local rings modulo regular elements.
Recently substantial progress has been made on generalized factorization techniques in integral domains, in particular $τ$-factorization. There has also been advances made in investigating factorization in commutative rings with zero-divisors. One approach which has been found to be very successful is that of U-factorization introduced by C.R. Fletcher. We seek to synthesize work done in these two areas by generalizing $τ$-factorization to rings with zero-divisors by using the notion of U-factorization.
For a semidualizing module $C$ over a ring $R$, we study the following classes modulo exact zero divisors: $\g_C$--projectives, $\mathcal G_C$; the Auslander class $\mathcal A_C$; the Bass class $\mathcal B_C$; $\mathcal{P}_C$--projective; $ {\mathcal F}_C$--projective; and ${\mathcal I}_C$--injective dimensions.
Let S be a commutative ring, x, y $\in$ S a pair of exact zero divisors, and R = S/(x). Let F be a complex of free R-modules. In this paper we explicitly compute cohomological operators of R over S by constructing endomorphisms of F. We consider some properties of these cohomological operators, as well as provide an example in which these cohomological operators act non-trivially.
Much work has been done on generalized factorization techniques in integral domains, namely $τ$-factorization. There has also been substantial progress made in investigating factorization in commutative rings with zero-divisors. This paper seeks to synthesize work done in these two areas and extend the notion of $τ$-factorization to commutative rings that need not be domains. In addition, we look into particular types of $τ$ relations, which are interesting when there are zero-divisors present. We then proceed to classify commutative rings that satisfy the finite factorization properties given…
In this paper, we study the zero divisor graph $Γ^m(L)$ of a multiplicative lattice L. We prove under certain conditions that for a reduced multiplicative lattice L having more than two minimal prime elements, $Γ^m(L)$ contains a cycle and $gr(Γ^m(L)) = 3$. This essentially proves that for a reduced ring R with more than two minimal primes, $gr(\mathbb{AG}(R))) = 3$ which settles the conjecture of Behboodi and Rakeei [9]. Further, we have characterized the diameter of $Γ^m(L)$.
Given a certain factorization property of a ring $R$, we can ask if this property extends to the polynomial ring over $R$ or vice versa. For example, it is well known that $R$ is a unique factorization domain if and only if $R[X]$ is a unique factorization domain. If $R$ is not a domain, this is no longer true. In this paper we survey unique factorization in commutative rings with zero divisors, and characterize when a polynomial ring over an arbitrary commutative ring has unique factorization.
The global defensive $k$-alliance is a very well studied notion in graph theory, it provides a method of classification of graphs based on relations between members of a particular set of vertices. In this paper we explore this notion in zero-divisor graph of commutative rings. The established results generalize and improve recent work by Muthana and Mamouni who treated a particular case for $k=-1$ known by the global defensive alliance. Various examples are also provided which illustrate and delimit the scope of the established results.
Let A be a local ring which admits an exact pair x,y of zero divisors as defined by Henriques and Sega. Assuming that this pair is regular and that there exists a regular element on the A-module A/(x,y), we explicitly construct an infinite family of non-isomorphic indecomposable totally reflexive A-modules. In this setting, our construction provides an answer to a question raised by Christensen, Piepmeyer, Striuli, and Takahashi. Furthermore, we compute the module of homomorphisms between any two given modules from the infinite family mentioned above.
In this paper, we point out several errors in [M.Afkhami, K.Khashyarmanesh and K.Nafar, Zero divisor graph of a lattice with respect to an ideal, Beitr Algebra Geom (2015), 217-225.]. In the previous article, Afkhami claimed that the intersection of all prime ideals belonging to an ideal I of a distributive lattice L equals to I. In this corrigendum, a counterexample for this sentence is constructed. Afkhami demonstrate a counterexample to a certain theorem which satisfies the necessary and the sufficient condition of the theorem. On the other hand, we reform many proofs in Afkhami's article.
This is a continuation of a previous paper by the same authors. In the former paper, it was proved that in order to obtain local uniformization for valuations centered on local domains, it is enough to prove it for rank one valuations. In this paper, we extend this result to the case of valuations centered on rings which are not necessarily integral domains and may even contain nilpotents.
In this paper, we show that it is possible for a commutative ring with identity to be non-atomic (that is, there exist non-zero nonunits that cannot be factored into irreducibles) and yet have a strongly atomic polynomial extension. In particular, we produce a commutative ring with identity, R, that is antimatter (that is, R has no irreducibles whatsoever) such that R[t] is strongly atomic. What is more, given any nonzero nonunit f(t) in R[t] then there is a factorization of f(t) into irreducibles of length no more than deg(f(t)) + 2.
Let $R$ be a commutative ring with unity and $Z(R)$ and ${\rm Reg}(R)$ be the set of zero-divisors and non-zero zero-divisors of $R$, respectively. We denote by $T(Γ(R))$, the total graph of $R$, a simple graph with the vertex set $R$ and two distinct vertices $x$ and $y$ are adjacent if and only if $x+y\in Z(R)$. The induced subgraphs on $Z(R)$ and ${\rm Reg}(R)$ are denoted by $Z(Γ(R))$ and $Reg(Γ(R))$, respectively. These graphs were first introduced by D.F. Anderson and A. Badawi in 2008. In this paper, we prove the following result: let $R$ be a finite ring and one of the following condit…
In this paper, we continue the program initiated by I. Beck's now classical paper concerning zero-divisor graphs of commutative rings. After the success of much research regarding zero-divisor graphs, many authors have turned their attention to studying divisor graphs of non-zero elements in the ring, the so called irreducible divisor graph. In this paper, we construct several different associated irreducible divisor graphs of a commutative ring with unity using various choices for the definition of irreducible and atomic in the literature. We continue pursuing the program of exploiting the in…
Let $M$ be an $R$-module and $S$ a semigroup. Our goal is to discuss zero-divisors of the semigroup module $M[S]$. Particularly we show that if $M$ is an $R$-module and $S$ a commutative, cancellative and torsion-free monoid, then the $R[S]$-module $M[S]$ has few zero-divisors of degree $n$ if and only if the $R$-module $M$ has few zero-divisors of degree $n$ and Property (A).
Let F be an infinite field. We prove that the right zero divisors of a three-dimensional associative F-algebra A must form the union of at most finitely many linear subspaces of A. The proof is elementary and written with students as the intended audience.
We determine the automorphism group of the zero-divisor digraph of the semiring of matrices over an antinegative commutative semiring with a finite number of zero-divisors.
In this paper we study some of the basic properties of a graph which is constructed from the equivalence classes of non-zero zero-divisors determined by annihilator ideals of a poset. In particular, we demonstrate how this graph helps in identifying the annihilator prime ideals of a poset that satisfies the ascending chain condition for its proper annihilator ideals.
The Zero divisor Graph of a commutative ring $R$, denoted by $Γ[R]$, is a graph whose vertices are non-zero zero divisors of $R$ and two vertices are adjacent if their product is zero. In this paper, we consider the zero divisor graph $Γ[\mathbb{Z}_n]$ for $n=p^3$ and $n=p^2q$ with $p$ and $q$ primes. We discuss the adjacency matrix and eigenvalues of the zero divisor graph $Γ[\mathbb{Z}_n]$. We also calculate the energy of the graph $Γ[\mathbb{Z}_n]$.
Let $R$ be a commutative ring and $Γ(R)$ denote its zero-divisor graph. In this paper, we investigate the genus number of the compact Riemann surface which $Γ(R)$ can be embedded and illustrate all finite commutative rings $R$ (up to isomorphism) such that $Γ(R)$ is either toroidal or planar.
In this paper, we determine bipartite graphs and complete graphs with horns, which are realizable as zero-divisor graphs of po-semirings. As applications, we classify commutative rings $R$ whose annihilating-ideal graph $\mathbb {AG}(R)$ are either bipartite graphs or complete graphs with horns.
In 1988, I.Beck showed that the chromatic number of G(Zn) is equal to its clique number. In 2004, S.Akbari and A.Mohammadian proved that the edge chromatic number of G(Zn) is equal to its maximum degree,in 2008, J.Skowronek-kaziow give formulas calculating the clique number and the maximum degree of G(Zn), but he have a error about clique number of G(Zn), we consider the zero-divisor graph G(Zn) of the ring Zn.we give formulas calculating the clique number of G(Zn).We present a constructed method to calculate the clique number.
The compressed zero-divisor graph $Γ_C(R)$ associated with a commutative ring $R$ has vertex set equal to the set of equivalence classes $\{ [r] \mid r \in Z(R), r \neq 0 \}$ where $r \sim s$ whenever $ann(r) = ann(s)$. Distinct classes $[r],[s]$ are adjacent in $Γ_C(R)$ if and only if $xy = 0$ for all $x \in [r], y \in [s]$. In this paper, we explore the compressed zero-divisor graph associated with quotient rings of unique factorization domains. Specifically, we prove several theorems which exhibit a method of constructing $Γ(R)$ for when one quotients out by a principal ideal, and prove suf…
In 1988, I. Beck introduced the notion of a zero-divisor graph of a commutative rings with $1$. There have been several generalizations in recent years. In particular, in 2007 J. Coykendall and J. Maney developed the irreducible divisor graph. Much work has been done on generalized factorization, especially $τ$-factorization. The goal of this paper is to synthesize the notions of $τ$-factorization and irreducible divisor graphs in domains. We will define a $τ$-irreducible divisor graph for non-zero non-unit elements of a domain. We show that by studying $τ$-irreducible divisor graphs, we find …
We investigate eigenvalues of the zero-divisor graph $Γ(R)$ of finite commutative rings $R$ and study the interplay between these eigenvalues, the ring-theoretic properties of $R$ and the graph-theoretic properties of $Γ(R)$. The graph $Γ(R)$ is defined as the graph with vertex set consisting of all non-zero zero-divisors of $R$ and adjacent vertices $x,y$ whenever $xy = 0$. We provide formulas for the nullity of $Γ(R)$, i.e. the multiplicity of the eigenvalue 0 of $Γ(R)$. Moreover, we precisely determine the spectra of $Γ(\mathbb Z_p \times \mathbb Z_p \times \mathbb Z_p)$ and $Γ(\mathbb Z_p …
A semiring is an algebraic structure similar to a ring, but without the requirement that each element must have an additive inverse. A po-semiring is a semiring equipped with a compatible bounded partial order. In this paper, properties of zero divisors and prime elements of a po-semiring are studied. In particular, it is proved that under some mild assumption the set $Z(A)$ of nonzero zero divisors of $A$ is $A\setminus \{0,1\}$, each prime element of $A$ is a maximal element, and the zero divisor graph $\G(A)$ of $A$ is a finite graph if and only if $A$ is finite. For a po-semiring $A$ with …
We find strong relationships between the zero-divisor graphs of apparently disparate kinds of nilpotent-free semigroups by introducing the notion of an \emph{Armendariz map} between such semigroups, which preserves many graph-theoretic invariants. We use it to give relationships between the zero-divisor graph of a ring, a polynomial ring, and the annihilating-ideal graph. Then we give relationships between the zero-divisor graphs of certain topological spaces (so-called pearled spaces), prime spectra, maximal spectra, tensor-product semigroups, and the semigroup of ideals under addition, obtai…
