Given a certain factorization property of a ring $R$, we can ask if this property extends to the polynomial ring over $R$ or vice versa. For example, it is well known that $R$ is a unique factorization domain if and only if $R[X]$ is a unique factorization domain. If $R$ is not a domain, this is no longer true. In this paper we survey unique factorization in commutative rings with zero divisors, and characterize when a polynomial ring over an arbitrary commutative ring has unique factorization.
Recently there has been a flurry of research on generalized factorization techniques in both integral domains and rings with zero-divisors, namely $τ$-factorization. There are several ways that authors have studied factorization in rings with zero-divisors. This paper focuses on the method of regular factorizations introduced by D.D. Anderson and S. Valdes-Leon. We investigate how one can extend the notion of $τ$-factorization to commutative rings with zero-divisors by using the regular factorization approach. The study of regular factorization is particularly effective because the distinct no…
We discuss various square-free and radical factorizations and existence of some divisors in monoids in the context of: atomicity, ascending chain condition for principal ideals, a pre-Schreier property, a greatest common divisor property and a greatest common divisor for sets property.
Much work has been done on generalized factorization techniques in integral domains, namely $τ$-factorization. There has also been substantial progress made in investigating factorization in commutative rings with zero-divisors. There are many ways authors have decided to study factorization when zero-divisors present. This paper focuses on the method $τ$-complete factorizations developed by D.D. Anderson and A. Frazier. There is a natural way to extend $τ$-complete factorization to commutative rings with zero-divisors. $τ$-complete factorization is a natural way to think of refining factoriza…
Recently substantial progress has been made on generalized factorization techniques in integral domains, in particular $τ$-factorization. There has also been advances made in investigating factorization in commutative rings with zero-divisors. One approach which has been found to be very successful is that of U-factorization introduced by C.R. Fletcher. We seek to synthesize work done in these two areas by generalizing $τ$-factorization to rings with zero-divisors by using the notion of U-factorization.
Much work has been done on generalized factorization techniques in integral domains, namely $τ$-factorization. There has also been substantial progress made in investigating factorization in commutative rings with zero-divisors. This paper seeks to synthesize work done in these two areas and extend the notion of $τ$-factorization to commutative rings that need not be domains. In addition, we look into particular types of $τ$ relations, which are interesting when there are zero-divisors present. We then proceed to classify commutative rings that satisfy the finite factorization properties given…
We extend to rings with zero-divisors the concept of perinormal domain introduced by N. Epstein and J. Shapiro. A ring $A$ is called perinormal if every overring of $A$ which satisfies going down over $A$ is $A$-flat. The Prüfer rings and the Marot Krull rings are perinormal.
Let $R$ be a commutative ring and let $I$ be an ideal of $R$. In this paper, we introduce the cozero-divisor graph $\acuteΓ_I(R)$ of $R$ and obtain some related results.
We extend the Bass-Matlis characterization of local Noetherian divisorial domains to the non-Noetherian case. This result is then used to study the following question: If a domain D is w-divisorial, that is, if each w-ideal of D is divisorial, then is D[X] automatically w-divisorial? We show that the answer is yes if D is either integrally closed or Mori.
In 1988, I. Beck introduced the notion of a zero-divisor graph of a commutative rings with $1$. There have been several generalizations in recent years. In particular, in 2007 J. Coykendall and J. Maney developed the irreducible divisor graph. Much work has been done on generalized factorization, especially $τ$-factorization. The goal of this paper is to synthesize the notions of $τ$-factorization and irreducible divisor graphs in domains. We will define a $τ$-irreducible divisor graph for non-zero non-unit elements of a domain. We show that by studying $τ$-irreducible divisor graphs, we find …
The global defensive $k$-alliance is a very well studied notion in graph theory, it provides a method of classification of graphs based on relations between members of a particular set of vertices. In this paper we explore this notion in zero-divisor graph of commutative rings. The established results generalize and improve recent work by Muthana and Mamouni who treated a particular case for $k=-1$ known by the global defensive alliance. Various examples are also provided which illustrate and delimit the scope of the established results.
This is a continuation of a previous paper by the same authors. In the former paper, it was proved that in order to obtain local uniformization for valuations centered on local domains, it is enough to prove it for rank one valuations. In this paper, we extend this result to the case of valuations centered on rings which are not necessarily integral domains and may even contain nilpotents.
Let f: A\to B be a ring homomorphism between Noetherian normal integral domains. We establish a general criterion for f to induce a homomorphism Cl(f): Cl(A)\to Cl(B) on divisor class groups. For instance, this criterion applies whenever f has finite flat dimension; this special case generalizes the more classical situations where f is flat or is surjective with kernel generated by an A-regular element. We extend some of Spiroff's work on the kernels of induced maps to this more general setting.
In this paper, we show that it is possible for a commutative ring with identity to be non-atomic (that is, there exist non-zero nonunits that cannot be factored into irreducibles) and yet have a strongly atomic polynomial extension. In particular, we produce a commutative ring with identity, R, that is antimatter (that is, R has no irreducibles whatsoever) such that R[t] is strongly atomic. What is more, given any nonzero nonunit f(t) in R[t] then there is a factorization of f(t) into irreducibles of length no more than deg(f(t)) + 2.
This dissertation focuses on the following topics: (1) asymptotic prime divisors over complete intersection rings, (2) asymptotic stability of complexities over complete intersection rings, (3) asymptotic linear bounds of Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity in multigraded modules, and (4) characterizations of regular local rings via syzygy modules of the residue field.
In this paper, we continue the program initiated by I. Beck's now classical paper concerning zero-divisor graphs of commutative rings. After the success of much research regarding zero-divisor graphs, many authors have turned their attention to studying divisor graphs of non-zero elements in the ring, the so called irreducible divisor graph. In this paper, we construct several different associated irreducible divisor graphs of a commutative ring with unity using various choices for the definition of irreducible and atomic in the literature. We continue pursuing the program of exploiting the in…
Using the concept of ring of Gelfand range 1 we proved that a commutative Bezout domain is an elementary divisor ring iff it is a ring of Gelfand range 1. Obtained results give a solution of problem of elementary divisor rings for different classes of commutative Bezout domains, in particular, $PM^{*}$, local Gelfand domains and so on.
We study the homological behavior of modules over local rings modulo exact zero-divisors. We obtain new results which are in some sense "opposite" to those known for modules over local rings modulo regular elements.
In this article we revisit a problem regarding Bezout domains, namely, whether every Bezout domain is an elementary divisor domain. We prove that a Bezout domain in which every maximal ideal is principal is an elementary divisor ring
We study the homotopy category $\mathrm{hmf}(R,W)$ of matrix factorizations of non-zero elements $W\in R^\times$, where $R$ is an elementary divisor domain. When $R$ has prime elements and $W$ factors into a square-free element $W_0$ and a finite product of primes of multiplicity greater than one and which do not divide $W_0$, we show that $\mathrm{hmf}(R,W)$ is triangle-equivalent with an orthogonal sum of the triangulated categories of singularities $\mathrm{D}_{\mathrm sing}(A_n(p))$ of the local Artinian rings $A_n(p)=R/\langle p^n\rangle$, where $p$ runs over the prime divisors of $W$ of …
A Graph-Theoretical Approach to Ring Analysis: An Exploration of Dominant Metric Dimension in Compressed Zero Divisor Graphs and Its Interplay with Ring Structures
In this paper, we introduce a new graph whose vertices are the nonzero zero-divisors of commutative ring $R$ and for distincts elements $x$ and $y$ in the set $Z(R)^{\star}$ of the nonzero zero-divisors of $R$, $x$ and $y$ are adjacent if and only if $xy=0$ or $x+y\in Z(R)$. we present some properties and examples of this graph and we study his relation with the zero-divisor graph and with a subgraph of total graph of a commutative ring.
Polstra showed that the cardinality of the torsion subgroup of the divisor class group of a local strongly $F$-regular ring is finite. We expand upon this result and prove that the reciprocal of the $F$-signature of a local strongly $F$-regular ring $R$ bounds the cardinality of the torsion subgroup of the divisor class group of $R$.
Let $R$ be a factorial domain. In this work we investigate the connections between the arithmetic of ${\rm Int}(R)$ (i.e., the ring of integer-valued polynomials over $R$) and its monadic submonoids (i.e., monoids of the form $\{g\in {\rm Int}(R)\mid g\mid_{{\rm Int}(R)} f^k$ for some $k\in\mathbb{N}_0\}$ for some nonzero $f\in {\rm Int}(R)$). Since every monadic submonoid of ${\rm Int}(R)$ is a Krull monoid it is possible to describe the arithmetic of these monoids in terms of their divisor-class group. We give an explicit description of these divisor-class groups in several situations and pr…
We shall describe the divisor class group and the graded canonical module of the multi-section ring for a normal projective variety X and Weil divisors D_1,..., D_s on X under a mild condition. In the proof, we use the theory of Krull domain and the equivariant twisted inverse functor due to Hashimoto.
We use the concept of 2-absorbing ideal introduced by Badawi to study those commutative rings in which every proper ideal is a product of 2-absorbing ideals (we call them TAF-rings). Any TAF-ring has dimension at most one and the local TAF-domains are the atomic pseudo-valuation domains.
In this paper we study the concept of radical factorization in the context of abstract ideal theory in order to obtain a unified approach to the theory of factorization into radical ideals and elements in the literature of commutative rings, monoids and ideal systems. Using this approach we derive new characterizations of classes of rings whose ideals are a product of radical ideals, and we obtain also similar characterizations for classes of ideal systems in monoids and star ideals in integral domains.
We study the zero divisor graph determined by equivalence classes of zero divisors of a commutative Noetherian ring R. We demonstrate how to recover information about R from this structure. In particular, we determine how to identify associated primes from the graph.
Let $R$ be a commutative ring and $Γ(R)$ denote its zero-divisor graph. In this paper, we investigate the genus number of the compact Riemann surface which $Γ(R)$ can be embedded and illustrate all finite commutative rings $R$ (up to isomorphism) such that $Γ(R)$ is either toroidal or planar.
The concept of a sequence of exact zero-divisors on a noetherian local ring is defined and studied. Some properties of sequences of exact zero-divisors are compared with regular sequences.
We analyze properties of various square-free factorizations in greatest common divisor domains and domains satisfying the ascending chain condition for principal ideals.
We introduce and study a new class of integral domains which we call irreducible divisor pair domains (IDPDs). In particular, we show how IDPDs fit in with other classes of integral domains defined in terms of factorization conditions. For instance, every UFD is an IDPD, and every IDPD is an HFD, but the converses fail in general. We also show that many familiar examples of HFDs are also IDPDs.
For strongly Euler-homogeneous, Saito-holonomic, and tame analytic germs we consider general types of multivariate Bernstein-Sato ideals associated to arbitrary factorizations of our germ. We show the zero loci of these ideals are purely codimension one and the zero loci associated to different factorizations are related by a diagonal property. If, additionally, the divisor is a hyperplane arrangement, we show the Bernstein-Sato ideals attached to a factorization into linear forms are principal. As an application, we independently verify and improve an estimate of Maisonobe's regarding standar…
We have tried to translate some graph properties of AG(R) and Gamma(R) to the topological properties of Zariski topology. We prove that Rad(Gamma(R)) and Rad(AG(R)) are equal and they are equal to 3, if and only if the zero ideal of R is an anti fixed-place ideal, if and only if Min(R) does not have any isolated point, if and only if Gamma(R) is triangulated, if and only if AG(R) is triangulated. Also, we show that if the zero ideal of a ring R is a fixed-place ideal, then dtt(AG(R)) = |B(R)| and also if in addition |Min(R)| > 2, then dt(AG(R)) = |B(R)|. Finally, it has been shown that dt(AG(R…
We give several criteria for a ring to be a UFD including generalizations of some criteria due to P. Samuel. These criteria are applied to construct, for any field k, (1) a Z-graded non-noetherian rational UFD of dimension three over k, and (2) k-affine rational UFDs defined by trinomial relations.
In this paper, we study the classes of rings in which every proper (regular) ideal can be factored as an invertible ideal times a nonempty product of proper radical ideals. More precisely, we investigate the stability of these properties under homomorphic image and their transfer to various contexts of constructions such as direct product, trivial ring extension and amalgamated duplication of a ring along an ideal. Our results generate examples that enrich the current literature with new and original families of rings satisfying these properties.
In this paper, we characterize chordal and perfect zero-divisor graphs of finite posets. Also, it is proved that the zero-divisor graphs of finite posets and the complement of zero-divisor graphs of finite $0$-distributive posets satisfy the Total Coloring Conjecture. These results are applied to the zero-divisor graphs of finite reduced rings, the comaximal ideal graph of rings, the annihilating ideal graphs, the intersection graphs of ideals of rings, and the intersection graphs of subgroups of cyclic groups. In fact, it is proved that these graphs associated with a commutative ring $R$ with…
In the present paper, we give some sufficient conditions for $\operatorname{Cl}(\Bbbk[P])$ to be torsionfree, where $\operatorname{Cl}(\Bbbk[P])$ denote the divisor class group of the toric ring $\Bbbk[P]$ of an integral polytope $P$. We prove that $\operatorname{Cl}(\Bbbk[P])$ is torsionfree if $P$ is compressed, and $\operatorname{Cl}(\Bbbk[P])$ is torsionfree if $P$ is a $(0,1)$-polytope which has at most $\dim P+2$ facets. Moreover, we characterize the toric rings of $(0,1)$-polytopes in the case $\operatorname{Cl}(\Bbbk[P])\cong \mathbb{Z}$.
In 1988, I.Beck showed that the chromatic number of G(Zn) is equal to its clique number. In 2004, S.Akbari and A.Mohammadian proved that the edge chromatic number of G(Zn) is equal to its maximum degree,in 2008, J.Skowronek-kaziow give formulas calculating the clique number and the maximum degree of G(Zn), but he have a error about clique number of G(Zn), we consider the zero-divisor graph G(Zn) of the ring Zn.we give formulas calculating the clique number of G(Zn).We present a constructed method to calculate the clique number.
The compressed zero-divisor graph $Γ_C(R)$ associated with a commutative ring $R$ has vertex set equal to the set of equivalence classes $\{ [r] \mid r \in Z(R), r \neq 0 \}$ where $r \sim s$ whenever $ann(r) = ann(s)$. Distinct classes $[r],[s]$ are adjacent in $Γ_C(R)$ if and only if $xy = 0$ for all $x \in [r], y \in [s]$. In this paper, we explore the compressed zero-divisor graph associated with quotient rings of unique factorization domains. Specifically, we prove several theorems which exhibit a method of constructing $Γ(R)$ for when one quotients out by a principal ideal, and prove suf…
In this paper, we study divisorial ideals of a Hibi ring which is a toric ring arising from a partially ordered set. We especially characterize the special class of divisorial ideals called conic using the associated partially ordered set. Using our description of conic divisorial ideals, we also construct a module giving a non-commutative crepant resolution (= NCCR) of the Segre product of polynomial rings. Furthermore, applying the operation called mutation, we give other modules giving NCCRs of it.
