We consider sequences of additive functionals of difference approximations for uniformly non-degenerate multidimensional diffusions. The conditions are given, sufficient for such a sequence to converge weakly to a W-functional of the limiting process. The class of the W-functionals, that can be obtained as the limiting ones, is completely described in the terms of the associated W-measures, and coincides with the class of the functionals that are regular w.r.t. the phase variable.
In the present paper, we prove that with probability one, the Stratonovich signatures of a multidimensional diffusion process (possibly degenerate) over [0,1], which is the collection of all iterated Stratonovich's integrals of the diffusion process over [0,1], determine the diffusion sample paths.
In this paper, we prove a comparison theorem for multidimensional G-SDEs. Moreover we obtain respectively the sufficient conditions and necessary conditions of the monotonicity and order-preservation for two multidimensional G-diffusion processes. Finally, we give some applications.
This paper develops an approach for solving perpetual discounted optimal stopping problems for multidimensional diffusions, with special emphasis on the $d$-dimensional Wiener process. We first obtain some verification theorems for diffusions, based on the Green kernel representation of the value function associated with the problem. Specializing to the multidimensional Wiener process, we apply the Martin boundary theory to obtain a set of tractable integral equations involving only harmonic functions that characterize the stopping region of the problem. These equations allow to formulate a di…
We prove that probability laws of certain multidimensional semimartingales which includes time-inhomogenous diffusions, under suitable assumptions, satisfy Quadratic Transportation Cost Inequality under the uniform metric. From this we derive concentration properties of Lipschitz functions of process paths that depend on the entire history. In particular, we estimate concentration of boundary local time of reflected Brownian motions on a polyhedral domain. We work out explicit applications of consequences of measure concentration for the case of Brownian motion with rank-based drifts.
Consider two laws \(P\) and \(Q\) of multidimensional possibly explosive diffusions with common diffusion coefficient \(\mathfrak{a}\) and drift coefficients \(\mathfrak{b}\) and \(\mathfrak{b} + \mathfrak{a} \mathfrak{c}\), respectively, and the law \(P^\circ\) of an auxiliary diffusion with diffusion coefficient \(\langle \mathfrak{c},\mathfrak{a}\mathfrak{c}\rangle^{-1}\mathfrak{a}\) and drift coefficient \(\langle \mathfrak{c}, \mathfrak{a}\mathfrak{c}\rangle^{-1}\mathfrak{b}\). We show that \(P \ll Q\) if and only if the auxiliary diffusion \(P^\circ\) explodes almost surely and that \(P\…
We present a novel approach of coupling two multidimensional and non-degenerate Itô processes $(X_t)$ and $(Y_t)$ which follow dynamics with different drifts. Our coupling is sticky in the sense that there is a stochastic process $(r_t)$, which solves a one-dimensional stochastic differential equation with a sticky boundary behavior at zero, such that almost surely $|X_t-Y_t|\leq r_t$ for all $t\geq 0$. The coupling is constructed as a weak limit of Markovian couplings. We provide explicit, non-asymptotic and long-time stable bounds for the probability of the event $\{X_t=Y_t\}$.
In this paper, we prove that the time supremum of the Wasserstein distance between the time-marginals of a uniformly elliptic multidimensional diffusion with coefficients bounded together with their derivatives up to the order $2$ in the spatial variables and H{ö}lder continuous with exponent $γ$ with respect to the time variable and its Euler scheme with $N$ uniform time-steps is smaller than $C \left(1+\mathbf{1}\_{γ=1} \sqrt{\ln(N)}\right)N^{-γ}$. To do so, we use the theory of optimal transport. More precisely, we investigate how to apply the theory by Ambrosio, Gigli and Savar{é} to compu…
Diffusion processes $(\underline{\bf X}_d(t))_{t\geq 0}$ moving inside spheres $S_R^d \subset\mathbb{R}^d$ and reflecting orthogonally on their surfaces $\partial S_R^d$ are considered. The stochastic differential equations governing the reflecting diffusions are presented and their kernels and distributions explicitly derived. Reflection is obtained by means of the inversion with respect to the sphere $S_R^d$. The particular cases of Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process and Brownian motion are examined in detail. The hyperbolic Brownian motion on the Poincarè half-space $\mathbb{H}_d$ is examined in th…
Pathwise uniqueness for multi-dimensional stochastic McKean--Vlasov equation is established under moderate regularity conditions on the drift and diffusion coefficients. Both drift and diffusion depend on the marginal measure of the solution. For pathwise uniqueness, the drift is assumed to be Dini-continuous in the state variable, while the diffusion must be Lipschitz, continuous in time and uniformly nondegenerate. The setting is classical McKean--Vlasov, that is, coefficients of the equation are represented as integrals over the marginal distributions of the process.
On Analytically Tractable Multidimensional Diffusions via Doob h-Transforms, with Resetting and Applications to Wiener and Ornstein--Uhlenbeck Processes
The paper studies a class of multidimensional optimal stopping problems with infinite horizon for linear switching diffusions. There are two main novelties in the optimal problems considered: the underlying stochastic process has discontinuous paths and the cost function is not necessarily integrable on the entire time horizon, where the latter is often a key assumption in classical optimal stopping theory for diffusions, cf. [22, Corollary 2.9]. Under relatively mild conditions, we show, for the class of multidimensional optimal stopping problems under consideration, that the first entry time…
We investigate well-posedness for martingale solutions of stochastic differential equations, under low regularity assumptions on their coefficients, widely extending some results first obtained by A. Figalli. Our main results are a very general equivalence between different descriptions for multidimensional diffusion processes, such as Fokker-Planck equations and martingale problems, under minimal regularity and integrability assumptions, and new existence and uniqueness results for diffusions having weakly differentiable coefficients, by means of energy estimates and commutator inequalities. …
We consider the optimal stopping problem consisting in, given a strong Markov process, a reward function and a discount rate, finding the stopping time such that the expected reward at the stopping time is maximum. The approach we follow, has two main components: the Dynkin's characterization of the value function as the smallest excessive function dominating the reward; and the Riesz representation of excessive functions in terms of the Green kernel, the main reference being Salminen 85. In the context of one-dimensional diffusions we give a complete characterization of the solution under som…
We study valuation of swing options on commodity markets when the commodity prices are driven by multiple factors. The factors are modeled as diffusion processes driven by a multidimensional Lévy process. We set up a valuation model in terms of a dynamic programming problem where the option can be exercised continuously in time. Here, the number of swing rights is given by a total volume constraint. We analyze some general properties of the model and study the solution by analyzing the associated HJB-equation. Furthermore, we discuss the issues caused by the multi-dimensionality of the commodi…
We develop a new simulation method for multidimensional diffusions with sticky boundaries. The challenge comes from simulating the sticky boundary behavior, for which standard methods like the Euler scheme fail. We approximate the sticky diffusion process by a multidimensional continuous time Markov chain (CTMC), for which we can simulate easily. We develop two ways of constructing the CTMC: approximating the infinitesimal generator of the sticky diffusion by finite difference using standard coordinate directions, and matching the local moments using the drift and the eigenvectors of the covar…
We consider a $d$-dimensional SDE with an identity diffusion matrix and a drift vector being a vector function of bounded variation. We give a representation for the derivative of the solution with respect to the initial data.
When is it possible to interpret a given Markov process as a Lévy-like process? Since the class of Lévy processes can be defined by the relation between transition probabilities and convolutions, the answer to this question lies in the existence of a convolution-like operator satisfying the same relation with the transition probabilities of the process. It is known that the so-called Sturm-Liouville convolutions have the desired properties and therefore the question above has a positive answer for a certain class of one-dimensional diffusions. However, more general processes have never been sy…
Consider a multidimensional diffusion process $X=\{X\left(t\right) :t\in\lbrack0,1]\}$. Let $\varepsilon>0$ be a \textit{deterministic}, user defined, tolerance error parameter. Under standard regularity conditions on the drift and diffusion coefficients of $X$, we construct a probability space, supporting both $X$ and an explicit, piecewise constant, fully simulatable process $X_{\varepsilon}$ such that \[ \sup_{0\leq t\leq1}\left\Vert X_{\varepsilon}\left(t\right) -X\left(t\right) \right\Vert_{\infty}<\varepsilon \] with probability one. Moreover, the user can adaptively choose $\varepsilon^…
This paper proves a Krylov-Safonov estimate for a multidimensional diffusion process whose diffusion coefficients are degenerate on the boundary. As applications the existence and uniqueness of invariant probability measures for the process and Hoelder estimates for the associated partial differential equation are obtained.
Burdzy and Chen (1998) proved results on weak convergence of multidimensional normally reflected Brownian motions. We generalize their work by considering obliquely reflected diffusion processes. We require weak convergence of domains, which is stronger than convergence in Wijsman topology, but weaker than convergence in Hausdorff topology.
It has recently been shown that there are substantial differences in the regularity behavior of the empirical process based on scalar diffusions as compared to the classical empirical process, due to the existence of diffusion local time. Besides establishing strong parallels to classical theory such as Ossiander's bracketing CLT and the general Giné-Zinn CLT for uniformly bounded families of functions, we find increased regularity also for multivariate ergodic diffusions, assuming that the invariant measure is finite with Lebesgue density $π$. The effect is diminishing for growing dimension b…
In this paper, we consider a multidimensional ergodic diffusion with jumps driven by a Brownian motion and a Poisson random measure associated with a pure-jump Lévy process with finite Lévy measure, whose drift coefficient depends on an unknown parameter. Considering the process discretely observed at high frequency, we derive the local asymptotic normality (LAN) property.
We formulate a martingale problem that describes a diffusion process in a multidimensional Euclidean space with a membrane located on a given smooth surface and having the properties of skewing and delaying. The theorem on the existence of no more than one solution to the problem is proved.
Multidimensional affine diffusions have been studied in detail for the case of a canonical state space. We present results for general state spaces and provide a complete characterization of all possible affine diffusions with polyhedral and quadratic state space. We give necessary and sufficient conditions on the behavior of drift and diffusion on the boundary of the state space in order to obtain invariance and to prove strong existence and uniqueness.
Take a multidimensional normally or obliquely reflected diffusion in a smooth domain. Approximate it by solutions of stochastic differential equations without reflection using the penalty method. That is, we approximate the reflection term with an additional drift term. In the existing literature, usually a specific approximating sequence is provided in order to prove existence of a reflected diffusion. In this article, we provide general sufficient conditions on the approximating coefficients.
We develop techniques for determining the exact asymptotic speed of convergence in the multidimensional normal approximation of smooth functions of Gaussian fields. As a by-product, our findings yield exact limits and often give rise to one-term generalized Edgeworth expansions increasing the speed of convergence. Our main mathematical tools are Malliavin calculus, Stein's method and the Fourth Moment Theorem. This work can be seen as an extension of the results of arXiv:0803.0458 to the multi-dimensional case, with the notable difference that in our framework covariances are allowed to fluctu…
It is known that the slow motion $X^\varepsilon$ in the time-scaled multidimensional averaging setup $\frac {dX^\varepsilon(t)}{dt}=\frac 1\varepsilon B(X^\varepsilon(t),\,ξ(t/\varepsilon^2))+b(X^\varepsilon(t),\,ξ(t/\ve^2)),\, t\in [0,T]$ converges weakly as $\varepsilon\to 0$ to a diffusion process provided $EB(x,ξ(s))\equiv 0$ where $ξ$ is a sufficiently fast mixing stochastic process. In this paper we show that both $X^\varepsilon$ and a family of diffusions $Ξ^\varepsilon$ can be redefined on a common sufficiently rich probability space so that $E\sup_{0\leq t\leq T}|X^\varepsilon(t)-Ξ^\v…
Given a sequence $(M_{n},Q_{n})_{n\ge 1}$ of i.i.d.\ random variables with generic copy $(M,Q) \in GL(d, \R) \times \R^d$, we consider the random difference equation (RDE) $$ R_{n}=M_{n}R_{n-1}+Q_{n}, $$ $n\ge 1$, and assume the existence of $κ>0$ such that $$ \lim_{n \to \infty}(\E{\norm{M_1 ... M_n}^κ})^{\frac{1}{n}} = 1 .$$ We prove, under suitable assumptions, that the sequence $S_n = R_1 + ... + R_n$, appropriately normalized, converges in law to a multidimensional stable distribution with index $κ$. As a by-product, we show that the unique stationary solution $R$ of the RDE is regularly …
We investigate the impact of Knightian uncertainty on the optimal timing policy of an ambiguity averse decision maker in the case where the underlying factor dynamics follow a multidimensional Brownian motion and the exercise payoff depends on either a linear combination of the factors or the radial part of the driving factor dynamics. We present a general characterization of the value of the optimal timing policy and the worst case measure in terms of a family of an explicitly identified excessive functions generating an appropriate class of supermartingales. In line with previous findings ba…
