We prove that multidimensional diffusions in random environment have a limiting velocity which takes at most two different values. Further, in the two-dimensional case we show that for any direction, the probability to escape to infinity in this direction equals either zero or one. Combined with our results on the limiting velocity, this implies a strong law of large numbers in two dimensions.
In this paper, we prove that the laws of perturbed diffusion processes and perturbed reflected diffusion processes are absolutely continuous with respect to the Lebesgue measure. The main tool we use is the Malliavin calculus.
Under some regularity conditions on $b$, $σ$ and $α$, we prove that the following perturbed stochastic differential equation \begin{equation} X_t=x+\int_0^t b(X_s)ds+\int_0^t σ(X_s) dB_s+α\sup_{0 \le s \le t} X_s, \ \ \ α<1 \end{equation} admits smooth densities for all $0 \le t \le t_0$, where $t_0>0$ is some finite number.
We construct a class of reflection laws for billiard processes in the unit interval whose stationary distribution for the billiard position and its velocity is the product of the uniform distribution and the standard normal distribution. These billiard processes have Markovian reflection laws, meaning their velocity is constant between reflections but changes in a Markovian way at reflection times.
We prove the emergence of stable fluctuations for reaction-diffusion in random environment with Weibull tails. This completes our work around the quenched to annealed transition phenomenon in this context of reaction diffusion. In [9], we had already considered the model treated here and had studied fully the regimes where the law of large numbers is satisfied and where the fluctuations are Gaussian, but we had left open the regime of stable fluctuations. Our work is based on a spectral approach centered on the classical theory of rank-one perturbations. It illustrates the gradual emergence of…
Motivated by earlier work on the use of fully-coupled Forward-Backward Stochastic Differential Equations (henceforth FBSDEs) in the analysis of mathematical models for the CO2 emissions markets, the present study is concerned with the analysis of these equations when the generator of the forward equation has a conservative degenerate structure and the terminal condition of the backward equation is a non-smooth function of the terminal value of the forward component. We show that a general form of existence and uniqueness result still holds. When the function giving the terminal condition is bi…
This paper studies, in dimensions greater than two, stationary diffusion processes in random environment which are small, isotropic perturbations of Brownian motion satisfying a finite range dependence. Such processes were first considered in the continuous setting by Sznitman and Zeitouni [20]. Building upon their work, it is shown by analyzing the associated elliptic boundary-value problem that, almost surely, the smoothed (in the sense that the boundary data is continuous) exit law of the diffusion from large domains converges, as the domain's scale approaches infinity, to that of a Brownia…
The Mellin transform is usually applied in probability theory to the product of independent random variables. In recent times the machinery of the Mellin transform has been adopted to describe the Lévy stable distributions, and more generally the probability distributions governed by generalized diffusion equations of fractional order in space and/or in time. In these cases the related stochastic processes are self-similar and are simply referred to as fractional diffusion processes. We provide some integral formulas involving the distributions of these processes that can be interpreted in ter…
We discuss some applications of the Mittag-Leffler function and related probability distributions in the theory of renewal processes and continuous time random walks. In particular we show the asymptotic (long time) equivalence of a generic power law waiting time to the Mittag-Leffler waiting time distribution via rescaling and respeeding the clock of time. By a second respeeding (by rescaling the spatial variable) we obtain the diffusion limit of the continuous time random walk under power law regimes in time and in space. Finally, we exhibit the time-fractional drift process as a diffusion l…
We investigate spatial evolutionary games with death-birth updating in large finite populations. Within growing spatial structures subject to appropriate conditions, the density processes of a fixed type are proven to converge to the Wright-Fisher diffusions with drift. In addition, convergence in the Wasserstein distance of the laws of their occupation measures holds. The proofs of these results develop along an equivalence between the laws of the evolutionary games and certain voter models and rely on the analogous results of voter models on large finite sets by convergences of the Radon-Nik…
We present a constructive probabilistic proof of the fact that if $B=(B_t)_{t\ge0}$ is standard Brownian motion started at $0$, and $μ$ is a given probability measure on $\mathbb{R}$ such that $μ(\{0\})=0$, then there exists a unique left-continuous increasing function $b:(0,\infty)\rightarrow\mathbb{R}\cup\{+\infty\}$ and a unique left-continuous decreasing function $c:(0,\infty)\rightarrow\mathbb{R}\cup\{-\infty\}$ such that $B$ stopped at $τ_{b,c}=\inf\{t>0\vert B_t\ge b(t)$ or $B_t\le c(t)\}$ has the law $μ$. The method of proof relies upon weak convergence arguments arising from Helly's s…
Focusing on stochastic systems arising in mean-field models, the systems under consideration belong to the class of switching diffusions, in which continuous dynamics and discrete events coexist and interact. The discrete events are modeled by a continuous-time Markov chain. Different from the usual switching diffusions, the systems include mean-field interactions. Our effort is devoted to obtaining laws of large numbers for the underlying systems. One of the distinct features of the paper is the limit of the empirical measures is not deterministic but a random measure depending on the history…
Starting from the model of continuous time random walk, we focus our interest on random walks in which the probability distributions of the waiting times and jumps have fat tails characterized by power laws with exponent between 0 and 1 for the waiting times, between 0 and 2 for the jumps. By stating the relevant lemmata (of Tauber type) for the distribution functions we need not distinguish between continuous and discrete space and time. We will see that, by a well-scaled passage to the diffusion limit, generalized diffusion processes, fractional in time as well as in space, are obtained. The…

We derive the hydrodynamic limit of a kinetic equation with a stochastic, short range perturbation of the velocity operator. Under some mixing hypotheses on the stochastic perturbation, we establish a diffusion-approximation result: the limit we obtain is a parabolic stochastic partial differential equation on the macroscopic parameter, the density here.
We show that the limiting minimal eigenvalue distributions for a natural generalization of Gaussian sample-covariance structures (the "beta ensembles") are described by the spectrum of a random diffusion generator. By a Riccati transformation, we obtain a second diffusion description of the limiting eigenvalues in terms of hitting laws. This picture pertains to the so-called hard edge of random matrix theory and sits in complement to the recent work of the authors and B. Virag on the general beta random matrix soft edge. In fact, the diffusion descriptions found on both sides are used here to …
We prove the transportation inequality with the uniform norm for the laws of diffusion processes with Lipschitz and/or dissipative coefficients and apply them to some singular stochastic differential equations of interest.
We prove that the joint distribution of the occupation time ratios for ergodic transformations preserving an infinite measure converges to a multidimensional version of Lamperti's generalized arcsine distribution, in the sense of strong distributional convergence. Our results can be applied to interval maps and Markov chains. We adopt the double Laplace transform method, which has been utilized in the study of occupation times of diffusions on multiray. We also discuss the inverse problem.
We consider the asymptotic behaviour of the solution of one dimensional stochastic differential equations and Langevin equations in periodic backgrounds with zero average. We prove that in several such models, there is generically a non vanishing asymptotic velocity, despite of the fact that the average of the background is zero.
A Smoluchowski type model of coagulation in a turbulent fluid is given, first expressed by means of a stochastic model, then in a suitable scaling limit as a deterministic model with enhanced diffusion in the velocity component. A precise link between mean intensity of the turbulent velocity field and coagulation enhancement is obtained by numerical simulations, and a formula for the mean velocity difference, in agreement with the gas-kinetic model, is proved by a new method.
