This is an expository paper in which we explain how basic, standard, results about simple Lie algebras can be obtained by geometric arguments, following ideas of Cartan, Richardson and others.
A Lie algebra is called nonsoliton if it does not admit a soliton inner product. We demonstrate that the subset of nonsoliton Lie algebras in the moduli space of indecomposable n-dimensional N-graded nilpotent Lie algebras is discrete if and only if n <= 7.
If a Lie algebra structures $\gG$ on a vector space is the sum of a family of mutually compatible Lie algebra structures $\gG_i$, we say that $\gG$ is \emph{simply assembled} from $\gG_s$'s. By repeating this procedure several times one gets a family of Lie algebras \emph{assembled} from $\gG_s$'s. The central result of this paper is that any finite dimensional Lie algebra over $\R$ or $\C$ can be assembled from two constituents, called $\between$- and $\pitchfork$-\emph{lieons}. A lieon is the direct sum of an abelian Lie algebra with a 2-dmensional nonabelian Lie algebra or with the 3-dimens…
We show that a statistical manifold manifold of a constant non-zero curvature can be realised as a level line of Hessian potential on a Hessian cone. We construct a Sasakian structure on $TM\times\R$ by a statistical manifold manifold of a constant non-zero curvature on $M$. By a statistical Lie algebra of a constant non-zero Lie algebra we construct a l.c.K Lie algebra.
In this paper, we present a study on the prolongations of representations of Lie algebras. We show that a tangent bundle of a given Lie algebra attains a Lie algebra structure. Then, we prove that this tangent bundle is algebraically isomorphic to the Lie algebra of a tangent bundle of a Lie group. Using these, we define prolongations of representations of Lie algebras. We show that if a Lie algebra representation corresponds to a Lie group representation, then prolongation of Lie algebra representation corresponds to the prolonged Lie group representation.
We study possible cases of complex simple graded Lie algebras of depth 2, which are the Tanaka prolongations of pseudo $H$-type Lie algebras arising through representation of Clifford algebras. We show that the complex simple Lie algebras of type $B_n$ with $|2|$-grading do not contain non-Heisenberg pseudo $H$-type Lie algebras as their negative nilpotent part, while the complex simple Lie algebras of types $A_n$, $C_n$ and $D_n$ provide such a possibility. Among exceptional algebras only $F_4$ and $E_6$ contain non-Heisenberg pseudo $H$-type Lie algebras as their negative part of $|2|$-gradi…
In this paper, we introduce the notion of a (regular) Hom-Lie group. We associate a Hom-Lie algebra to a Hom-Lie group and show that every regular Hom-Lie algebra is integrable. Then, we define a Hom-exponential (Hexp) map from the Hom-Lie algebra of a Hom-Lie group to the Hom-Lie group and discuss the universality of this Hexp map. We also describe a Hom-Lie group action on a smooth manifold. Subsequently, we give the notion of an adjoint representation of a Hom-Lie group on its Hom-Lie algebra. At last, we integrate the Hom-Lie algebra $(\mathfrak{gl}(V),[\cdot,\cdot],\mathsf{Ad})$, and the …
We generalize the Schouten calculus of multivector fields to commutative Lie Rinehart pairs and define a non negatively graded Lie oo-algebra on their exterior power.
Starting with Lie's classification of finite-dimensional transitive Lie algebras of vector fields on $\mathbb C^2$ we construct Lie algebras of vector fields on the bundle $\mathbb C^2 \times \mathbb C$ by lifting the Lie algebras from the base. There are essentially three types of transitive lifts and we compute all of them for the Lie algebras from Lie's classification. The simplest type of lift is encoded by Lie algebra cohomology.
A new category of Lie algebras, called generalized Lie algebras, is presented such that classical Lie algebras and Lie-Rinehart algebras are objects of this new category. A new philosophy over generalized Lie algebroids theory is presented using the notion of generalized Lie algebra and examples of objects of the category of generalized Lie algebroids are presented. An exterior differential calculus on generalized Lie algebras is pre- sented and a theorem of Maurer-Cartan type is obtained. Supposing that any submodule(vector subbundle) of a generalized Lie algebra(algebroid) is an interior alg…
We present structural properties of Lie algebras admitting symmetric, invariant and nondegenerate bilinear forms. We show that these properties are not satisfied by nilradicals of parabolic subalgebras of real split forms of complex simple Lie algebras, neither by 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras associated with graphs, with only few exceptions. These rare cases are, essentially, abelian Lie algebras, the free 3-step nilpotent Lie algebra on 2-generators and the free 2-step nilpotent Lie algebra on 3-generators.
$k$-Para-Kähler Lie algebras are a generalization of para-Kähler Lie algebras $(k=1)$ and constitute a subclass of $k$-symplectic Lie algebras. In this paper, we show that the characterization of para-Kähler Lie algebras as left symmetric bialgebras can be generalized to $k$-para-Kähler Lie algebras leading to the introduction of two new structures which are different but both generalize the notion of left symmetric algebra. This permits also the introduction of generalized $S$-matrices. We determine then all the $k$-symplectic Lie algebras of dimension $(k+1)$ and all the six dimensional 2-pa…
We study post-Lie algebra structures on pairs of Lie algebras (g,n), and prove existence results for the case that one of the Lie algebras is semisimple. For semisimple g and solvable n we show that there exist no post-Lie algebra structures on (g,n). For semisimple n and certain solvable g we construct canonical post-Lie algebra structures. On the other hand we prove that there are no post-Lie algebra structures for semisimple n and solvable, unimodular g. We also determine the generalized $(\al,\be,\ga)$-derivations of n in the semisimple case. As an application we classify post-Lie algebra …
We introduce post-Lie algebra structures on pairs of Lie algebras $(\Lg,\Ln)$ defined on a fixed vector space $V$. Special cases are LR-structures and pre-Lie algebra structures on Lie algebras. We show that post-Lie algebra structures naturally arise in the study of NIL-affine actions on nilpotent Lie groups. We obtain several results on the existence of post-Lie algebra structures, in terms of the algebraic structure of the two Lie algebras $\Lg$ and $\Ln$. One result is, for example, that if there exists a post-Lie algebra structure on $(\Lg,\Ln)$, where $\Lg$ is nilpotent, then $\Ln$ must …
A Lie-admissible algebra gives by anticommutativity a Lie algebra. In this work we study remarkable classes of Lie-admissible algebras such as Vinberg, PreLie algebras. We compute the corresponding binary quadratic operads and study their Koszul duality. Considering Lie algebras as Lie-admissible algebras we can define for each Lie algebra a cohomology with values in a Lie-admissible module. This permits to study some deformations of Lie algebras in the category of Lie-admissible algebras. Lastly we study the tensor product between these operads and their dual operads. As application we constr…
We show that, in compact semisimple Lie groups and Lie algebras, any neighbourhood of the identity gets mapped, under the commutator map, to a neighbourhood of the identity.
We characterise Lie groups with bi-invariant bargmannian, galilean or carrollian structures. Localising at the identity, we show that Lie algebras with ad-invariant bargmannian, carrollian or galilean structures are actually determined by the same data: a metric Lie algebra with a skew-symmetric derivation. This is the same data defining a one-dimensional double extension of the metric Lie algebra and, indeed, bargmannian Lie algebras coincide with such double extensions, containing carrollian Lie algebras as an ideal and projecting to galilean Lie algebras. This sets up a canonical correspond…
Lie's Third Theorem, asserting that each finite-dimensional Lie algebra is the Lie algebra of a Lie group, fails in infinite dimensions. The modern account on this phenomenon is the integration problem for central extensions of infinite-dimensional Lie algebras, which in turn is phrased in terms of an integration procedure for Lie algebra cocycles. This paper remedies the obstructions for integrating cocycles and central extensions from Lie algebras to Lie groups by generalising the integrating objects. Those objects obey the maximal coherence that one can expect. Moreover, we show that they a…
Let g be a simplicial Lie algebra with Moore complex Ng of length k. Let G be the simplicial Lie group integrating g, which is simply connected in each simplicial level. We use the 1-jet of the classifying space of G to construct, starting from g, a Lie k-algebra L. The so constructed Lie k-algebra L is actually a differential graded Lie algebra. The differential and the brackets are explicitly described in terms (of a part) of the corresponding k-hypercrossed complex structure of Ng. The result can be seen as a geometric interpretation of Quillen's (purely algebraic) construction of the adjun…
We show that there is an equivalence of $\infty$-categories between Lie algebroids and certain kinds of curved Lie algebras. For this we develop a method to study the $\infty$-category of curved Lie algebras using the homotopy theory of algebras over a complete operad.
We define $\mathcal{O}$-operators on a Lie $\infty$-algebra $E$ with respect to an action of $E$ on another Lie $\infty$-algebra and we characterize them as Maurer-Cartan elements of a certain Lie $\infty$-algebra obtained by Voronov's higher derived brackets construction. The Lie $\infty$-algebra that controls the deformation of $\mathcal{O}$-operators with respect to a fixed action is determined.
We present a local and constructive differential geometric description of finite-dimensional solvable and transitive Lie algebras of vector fields. We show that it implies a Lie's conjecture for such Lie algebras. Also infinite-dimensional analytical solvable and transitive Lie algebras of vector fields whose derivative ideal is nilpotent can be adapted to this scheme.
In this paper, first we introduce the notion of quadratic Rota-Baxter Lie algebras of arbitrary weight, and show that there is a one-to-one correspondence between factorizable Lie bialgebras and quadratic Rota-Baxter Lie algebras of nonzero weight. Then we introduce the notions of matched pairs, bialgebras and Manin triples of Rota-Baxter Lie algebras of arbitrary weight, and show that Rota-Baxter Lie bialgebras, Manin triples of Rota-Baxter Lie algebras and certain matched pairs of Rota-Baxter Lie algebras are equivalent. The coadjoint representations and quadratic Rota-Baxter Lie algebras pl…
