This paper is a written form of a talk. It gives a review of various notions of Galois (and in particular cleft) extensions. Extensions by coalgebras, bialgebras and Hopf algebras (over a commutative base ring) and by corings, bialgebroids and Hopf algebroids (over a non-commutative base algebra) are systematically recalled and compared.
In the first version of this paper, the journal version of [15, Theorem 2.6] was heavily used, in two respects. First, it was applied to establish an isomorphism between the comodule categories of two constituent bialgebroids in a Hopf algebroid. Second, it was used to construct a Morita context for any bicomodule for a coring extension. Regrettably, it turned out that the proof of [15, Theorem 2.6] contains an unjustified step. Therefore, our derived results are not expected to hold at the stated level of generality either. In the revised version we make the necessary corrections in both respects. In doing so, we obtain a corrected version of \cite[5, Theorem 4.2] as well, whose original proof contains a very similar error to [15, Theorem 2.6].
We show that a semi-commutative Galois extension of a unital associative algebra can be endowed with the structure of a graded q-differential algebra. We study the first and higher order noncommutative differential calculus of semi-commutative Galois extension induced by the graded q-differential algebra. As an example we consider the quaternions which can be viewed as the semi-commutative Galois extension of complex numbers.
Let $(H,R)$ be a quasitriangular weak Hopf algebra over a field $k$. We show that there is a braided monoidal equivalence between the Yetter-Drinfeld module category $^H_H\mathscr{YD}$ over $H$ and the category of comodules over some braided Hopf algebra ${}_RH$ in the category $_H\mathscr{M}$. Based on this equivalence, we prove that every braided bi-Galois object $A$ over the braided Hopf algebra ${}_RH$ defines a braided autoequivalence of the category $^H_H\mathscr{YD}$ if and only if $A$ is quantum commutative. In case $H$ is semisimple over an algebraically closed field, i.e. the fusion …
Coalgebra-Galois extensions generalise Hopf-Galois extensions, which can be viewed as non-commutative torsors. In this paper it is analysed when a coalgebra-Galois extension is a separable, split, or strongly separable extension.
It is shown that any finite complete covering of a non-commutative algebra in the sense of Calow and Matthes (J. Geom. Phys. 32 (2000), 114--165) gives rise to a Galois coring.
We show how the Galois-Picard_Vessiot theory of differential equations and difference equations, and the theory of holonomy groups in differential geometry, are different aspects of a unique Galois theory. The latter is based upon the construction and study of the tensor product of non commutative connections over a commutative base, without any curvature assumption. This theory provides an algebraic frame for the study of the confluence arising when the increment of a difference equation tends to 0.
The Chern-Galois theory is developed for corings or coalgebras over non-commutative rings. As the first step the notion of an entwined extension as an extension of algebras within a bijective entwining structure over a non-commutative ring is introduced. A strong connection for an entwined extension is defined and it is shown to be closely related to the Galois property and to the equivariant projectivity of the extension. A generalisation of the Doi theorem on total integrals in the framework of entwining structures over a non-commutative ring is obtained, and the bearing of strong connection…
In this note we study Morita contexts and Galois extensions for corings. For a coring $\QTR{cal}{C}$ over a (not necessarily commutative) ground ring $A$ we give equivalent conditions for $\QTR{cal}{M}^{\QTR{cal}{C}}$ to satisfy the weak. resp. the strong structure theorem. We also characterize the so called \QTR{em}{cleft}$C$\QTR{em}{-Galois extensions} over commutative rings. Our approach is similar to that of Y. Doi and A. Masuoka in their work on (cleft) $H$-Galois extensions.
In this paper we show that a semi-commutative Galois extension of associative unital algebra by means of an element, whose Nth power is equal to the identity element of an algebra, where N is an integer greater or equal to two, induces a structure of graded q-differential algebra, where q is a primitive Nth root of unity. A graded q-differential algebra with differential d, whose Nth power is equal to zero, can be viewed as a generalization of graded differential algebra. The subalgebra of elements of degree zero and the subspace of elements of degree one of a graded q-differential algebra tog…
An extension B\subset A of algebras over a commutative ring k is an H-extension for an L-bialgebroid H if A is an H-comodule algebra and B is the subalgebra of its coinvariants. It is H-Galois if the canonical map A\otimes_B A\to A\otimes_L H is an isomorphism or, equivalently, if the canonical coring (A\otimes_L H:A) is a Galois coring. In the case of a Hopf algebroid H=(H_L,H_R,S) any H_R-extension is shown to be also an H_L-extension. If the antipode is bijective then also the notions of H_R-Galois extensions and of H_L-Galois extensions are proven to coincide. Results about bijective entwi…
We study Galois extensions Coinv(M)<M for M an H-comodule algebra and H a Frobenius Hopf algebroid. We obtain generalizations of various theorems in Hopf-Galois theory by Kreimer-Takeuchi, Doi-Takeuchi and Cohen-Fischman-Montgomery. An algebra extension is Galois precisely if it is balanced, depth 2, and Frobenius. Then we show that Yetter-Drinfeld categories over H are always braided and their braided commutative algebras play the role of noncommutative scalar extensions by the Brzezinski-Militaru Theorem. Contravariant "fiber functors" are used to prove an analogue of Ulbrich's Theorem and t…
The purpose of this paper is to connect two subjects: the theory of quantum integrable systems (complete commutative rings of differential operators), and differential Galois theory. We define quantum completely integrable systems (QCIS), algebraically integrable QCIS, the differential Galois group of a QCIS. We show that the differential Galois group is always reductive and that a QCIS is algebraically integrable if and only if its differential Galois group is commutative. In particular, we show that a differential operator L in one variable is algebraic in the sense of Krichever (i.e. finite…
In this article, we will define non-commutative covering spaces using Hopf-Galois theory. We will look at basic properties of covering spaces that still hold for these non-commutative analogues. We will describe examples including coverings of commutative spaces and coverings of non-commutative tori.
Hopf algebroids are generalization of Hopf algebras over non-commutative base rings. It consists of a left- and a right-bialgebroid structure related by a map called the antipode. However, if the base ring of a Hopf algebroid is commutative one does not necessarily have a Hopf algebra. Meanwhile, a Hopf category is the categorification of a Hopf algebra. It consists of a category enriched over a braided monoidal category such that every hom-set carries a coalgebra structure together with an antipode functor. In this article, we will introduce the notion of a topological Hopf category$-$ a smal…
In previous work, to each Hopf algebra H and each invertible right two-cocycle on H, Eli Aljadeff and the first-named author attached a subalgebra B of the free commutative Hopf algebra S generated by the coalgebra underlying H; the algebra B is the subalgebra of coinvariants of a generic Hopf Galois extension. In this paper we give conditions under which S is faithfully flat, or even free, as a B-module. We also show that B is generated as an algebra by certain elements arising from the theory of polynomial identities for comodule algebras developped jointly with Aljadeff.
This is a continuation of the authors' study of finite-dimensional pointed Hopf algebras H which act inner faithfully on commutative domains. As mentioned in Part I of this work, the study boils down to the case where H acts inner faithfully on a field. These Hopf algebras are referred to as Galois-theoretical. In this work, we provide classification results for finite-dimensional pointed Galois-theoretical Hopf algebras H of finite Cartan type. Namely, we determine when such H of type A_1^{\times r} and some H of rank two possess the Galois-theoretical property. Moreover, we provide necessary…
We study comodule functors for comonads arising from mixed distributive laws. Their Galois property is reformulated in terms of a (so-called) regular arrow in Street's bicategory of comonads. Between categories possessing equalizers, we introduce the notion of a regular adjunction. An equivalence is proven between the category of pre-torsors over two regular adjunctions $(N_A,R_A)$ and $(N_B,R_B)$ on one hand, and the category of regular comonad arrows $(R_A,ξ)$ from some equalizer preserving comonad ${\mathbb C}$ to $N_BR_B$ on the other. This generalizes a known relationship between pre-tors…
This note is a development of our two previous papers, arXiv:1212.3392v1 and 1306.3660v1. The fundamental question is whether there exists a Galois theory, in which the Galois group is a quantum group. For a linear equations with respect to a Hopf algebra, we arrived at a final form if the base field consists of constants. In this case, we have non-commutative Picard-Vessiot rings and asymmetric Tannaka theory. For non-linear equations there are examples that might make us optimistic.
Actions of semisimple Hopf algebras H over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero on commutative domains were classified recently by the authors. The answer turns out to be very simple- if the action is inner faithful, then H has to be a group algebra. The present article contributes to the non-semisimple case, which is much more complicated. Namely, we study actions of finite dimensional (not necessarily semisimple) Hopf algebras on commutative domains, particularly when H is pointed of finite Cartan type. The work begins by reducing to the case where H acts inner faithfully on …
In previous joint work with Eli Aljadeff we attached a generic Hopf Galois extension A(H,c) to each twisted algebra H(c) obtained from a Hopf algebra H by twisting its product with the help of a cocycle c. The algebra A(H,c) is a flat deformation of H(c) over a "big" central subalgebra B(H,c) and can be viewed as the noncommutative analogue of a versal torsor in the sense of Serre. After surveying the results on A(H,c) obtained with Aljadeff, we establish three new results: we present a systematic method to construct elements of the commutative algebra B(H,c), we show that a certain important …
Let $A$ be a connected commutative $\C$-algebra with derivation $D$, $G$ a finite linear automorphism group of $A$ which preserves $D$, and $R=A^G$ the fixed point subalgebra of $A$ under the action of $G$. We show that if $A$ is generated by a single element as an $R$-algebra and is a Galois extension over $R$ in the sense of M. Auslander and O. Goldman, then every finite-dimensional vertex algebra $R$-module has a structure of twisted vertex algebra $A$-module.
To a finite Hopf-Galois extension $A | B$ we associate dual bialgebroids $S := \End_BA_B$ and $T := (A ø_B A)^B$ over the centralizer $R$ using the depth two theory in math.RA/0108067. First we extend results on the equivalence of certain properties of Hopf-Galois extensions with corresponding properties of the coacting Hopf algebra \cite{KT,Doi} to depth two extensions using coring theory math.RA/0002105. Next we show that $T^{\rm op}$ is a Hopf algebroid over the centralizer $R$ via Lu's theorem 5.1 in math.QA/9505024 for smash products with special modules over the Drinfel'd double, the Miy…
We bring together ideas in analysis of Hopf *-algebra actions on II_1 subfactors of finite Jones index and algebraic characterizations of Frobenius, Galois and cleft Hopf extensions to prove a non-commutative algebraic analogue of the classical theorem: a finite field extension is Galois iff it is separable and normal. Suppose N < M is a separable Frobenius extension of k-algebras split as N-bimodules with a trivial centralizer C_M(N). Let M_1 := End(M)_N and M_2 := End(M_1)_M be the endomorphism algebras in the Jones tower N < M < M_1 < M_2. We show that under depth 2 conditions on the second…
We study noncommutative principal bundles (Hopf-Galois extensions) in the context of coquasitriangular Hopf algebras and their monoidal category of comodule algebras. When the total space is quasi-commutative, and thus the base space subalgebra is central, we define the gauge group as the group of vertical automorphisms or equivalently as the group of equivariant algebra maps. We study Drinfeld twist (2-cocycle) deformations of Hopf-Galois extensions and show that the gauge group of the twisted extension is isomorphic to the gauge group of the initial extension. In particular, noncommutative p…
We define motivic iterated integrals on the affine line, and give a simple proof of the formula for the coproduct in the Hopf algebra of they make. We show that it encodes the group law in the automorphism group of certain non-commutative variety. We relate the coproduct with the coproduct in the Hopf algebra of decorated rooted planar trivalent trees - a planar decorated version of the Hopf algebra defined by Connes and Kreimer. As an application we derive explicit formulas for the coproduct in the motivic multiple polylogarithm Hopf algebra. We give a criteria for a motivic iterated integral…
Let A be a comodule algebra for a finite dimensional Hopf algebra K over an algebraically closed field k, and let A^K be the subalgebra of invariants. Let Z be a central subalgebra in A, which is a domain with quotient field Q. Assume that Q\otimes_Z A is a central simple algebra over Q, and either A is a finitely generated torsion-free Z-module and Z is integrally closed in Q, or A is a finite projective Z-module. Then we show that A and Z are integral over the subring of central invariants Z\cap A^K. More generally, we show that this statement is valid under the same assumptions if Z is a re…
Principal comodule algebras can be thought of as objects representing principal bundles in non-commutative geometry. A crucial component of a principal comodule algebra is a strong connection map. For some applications it suffices to prove that such a map exists, but for others, such as computing the associated bundle projectors or Chern-Galois characters, an explicit formula for a strong connection is necessary. It has been known for some time how to construct a strong connection map on a multi-pullback comodule algebra from strong connections on multi-pullback components, but the known expli…
Let $(H, R)$ be a finite dimensional quasitriangular Hopf algebra over a field $k$, and $_H\mathcal{M}$ the representation category of $H$. In this paper, we study the braided autoequivalences of the Drinfeld center $^H_H\mathcal{YD}$ trivializable on $_H\mathcal{M}$. We establish a group isomorphism between the group of those autoequivalences and the group of quantum commutative bi-Galois objects of the transmutation braided Hopf algebra $_RH$. We then apply this isomorphism to obtain a categorical interpretation of the exact sequence of the equivariant Brauer group $\mathrm{BM}(k, H,R)$ in […
Looking to the history of mathematics one could find out two outer approaches to Geometry. First one (algebraic) is due to Descartes and second one (group-theoretic)--to Klein. We will see that they are not rivalling but are tied (by Galois). We also examine their modern life as philosophies of non-commutative geometry. Connections between different objects (see keywords) are discussed. Keywords: Heisenberg group, Weyl commutation relation, Manin plain, quantum groups, SL(2, R), Hardy space, Bergman space, Segal-Bargmann space, Szeg"o projection, Bergman projection, Clifford analysis, Cauchy-R…
Non-commutative connections of the second type or hom-connections and associated integral forms are studied as generalisations of right connections of Manin. First, it is proven that the existence of hom-connections with respect to the universal differential graded algebra is tantamount to the injectivity, and that every finitely cogenerated injective module admits a hom-connection with respect to any differential graded algebra. The bulk of the paper is devoted to describing a method of constructing hom-connections from twisted multi-derivations. The notion of a free twisted multi-derivation …
We introduce the concept of Hopf-Galois system, a reformulation of the notion of Galois extension of the base field for a Hopf algebra. The main feature of our definition is a generalization of the antipode of an ordinary Hopf algebra. The main application of Hopf-Galois systems is the construction of monoidal equivalences between comodule categories over Hopf algebras.
This article is made up with two parts. In the first part, we generalize to the case when objects are faithfully flat over the ground ring, the full equivalence between the notions of Hopf-Galois extension and Hopf-Galois system. In the second part of the article, we show that the Kashiwara algebras introduced by Kashiwara in his study of crystal bases are Hopf-Galois objects.
We provide necessary and sufficient conditions to extend the Hopf-Galois algebra structure on an algebra R to a generalized ambiskew ring based on R, in a way such that the added variables for the extension are skew-primitive in an appropriate sense. We show that the associated Hopf algebra is again a a generalized ambiskew ring, based on a suitable Hopf algebra H(R). Several examples are examined, including the Hopf-Galois objects over Uq(sl2).
This text gives some results about quantum torsors. Our starting point is an old reformulation of torsors recalled recently by Kontsevich. We propose an unification of the definitions of torsors in algebraic geometry and in Poisson geometry. Any quantum torsor is equipped with two comodule-algebra structures over Hopf algebras and these structures commute with each other. In the finite dimensional case, these two Hopf algebras share the same finite dimension. We show that any Galois extension of a field is a torsor and that any torsor is a Hopf-Galois extension. We give also examples of non-co…
