We construct a model complete and o-minimal expansion of the field of real numbers such that, for any planar analytic vector field X and any isolated, non-resonant hyperbolic singularity p of X, a transition map for X at p is definable in this structure. This structure also defines all convergent generalized power series with natural support and is polynomially bounded.
In this paper, we prove a criterion for the local ergodicity of non-uniformly hyperbolic symplectic maps with singularities. Our result is an extension of a theorem of Liverani and Wojtkowski.
Homoclinic tangencies and singular hyperbolicity are involved in the Palis conjecture for vector fields. Typical three dimensional vector fields are well understood by recent works. We study the dynamics of higher dimensional vector fields that are away from homoclinic tangencies. More precisely, we prove that for \emph{any} dimensional vector field that is away from homoclinic tangencies, all singularities contained in its robustly transitive singular set are all hyperbolic and have the same index. Moreover, the robustly transitive set is {$C^1$-generically }partially hyperbolic if the vector…
In this paper we show that, if an integrable Hamiltonian system admits a nondegenerate hyperbolic singularity then it will satisfy the Kolmogorov condegeneracy condition near that singularity (under a mild additional condition, which is trivial if the singularity contains a fixed point)
For 2-d hyperbolic systems with singularities, statistical properties are rather difficult to establish because of the fragmentation of the phase space by singular curves. In this paper, we construct a Markov partition of the phase space with countable states for a general class of hyperbolic systems with singularities. Stochastic properties with respect to the SRB measure immediately follow from our construction of the Markov partition, including the decay rates of correlations and the central limit theorem. We further establish the thermodynamic formalism for the family of geometric potentia…
We investigate a wide class of two-dimensional hyperbolic systems with singularities, and prove the almost sure invariance principle (ASIP) for the random process generated by sequences of dynamically Hölder observables. The observables could be unbounded, and the process may be non-stationary and need not have linearly growing variances. Our results apply to Anosov diffeomorphisms, Sinai dispersing billiards and their perturbations. The random processes under consideration are related to the fluctuation of Lyapunov exponents, the shrinking target problem, etc.
In this paper, we prove the existence of super-hyperbolic orbits in four-body problem, which solves a conjecture of Marchal-Saari. We also prove the existence of noncollision singularities in the same model, which solves a conjecture of Anosov. Moreover, the two type of solutions coexist for certain mass ratios. We also make a conjecture on the classification of final motions of N-body problem, in which the superhyperbolic type of orbits is one of the building blocks.
This paper contains theory on two related topics relevant to manifolds of normally hyperbolic singularities. First, theorems on the formal and $ C^k $ normal forms for these objects are proved. Then, the theorems are applied to give asymptotic properties of the transition map between sections transverse to the centre-stable and centre-unstable manifolds of some normally hyperbolic manifolds. A method is given for explicitly computing these so called Dulac maps. The Dulac map is revealed to have similar asymptotic structures as in the case of a saddle singularity in the plane.
On a 4-dimensional compact symplectic manifold, we study how suitable perturbations of a toric system to a family of completely integrable systems with $\mathbb{S}^1$-symmetry lead to various hyperbolic-regular singularities. We compute and visualise associated phenomena like flaps, swallowtails, and $k$-stacked tori for $k \in \{2, 3, 4\}$ and give an upper bound for $k$ in our family of systems.
Let $f$ be a function in the Eremenko-Lyubich class $\mathcal{B}$, and let $U$ be an unbounded, forward invariant Fatou component of $f$. We relate the number of singularities of an inner function associated to $f|_U$ with the number of tracts of $f$. In particular, we show that if $f$ lies in either of two large classes of functions in $\mathcal{B}$, and also has finitely many tracts, then the number of singularities of an associated inner function is at most equal to the number of tracts of $f$. Our results imply that for hyperbolic functions of finite order there is an upper bound -- relate…
We construct Markov partitions for non-invertible and/or singular nonuniformly hyperbolic systems defined on higher dimensional Riemannian manifolds. The generality of the setup covers classical examples not treated so far, such as geodesic flows in closed manifolds, multidimensional billiard maps, and Viana maps, and includes all the recent results of the literature. We also provide a wealth of applications.
The main purpose of this article is to study box dimension of orbits near hyperbolic and nonhyperbolic fixed points of discrete dynamical systems in higher dimensions. We generalize the known results for one-dimensional systems, that is, the orbits near the hyperbolic fixed point in one-dimensional discrete dynamical system has the box dimension equal to zero and the orbits near nonhyperbolic fixed point has positive box dimension. In the process of studying box dimensions, we use the stable, unstable and center manifolds and appropriate system restrictions. The main result is that the box dim…
The coexistence of singularities and regular orbits in chain transitive sets has been a major obstacle in understanding the hyperbolic/partial hyperbolic nature of robust dynamics. Notably, the vector fields with all periodic orbits robustly hyperbolic (star flows), are hyperbolic in absence of singularities. Morales, Pacifico and Pujals proposed a partial hyperbolicity called "singular hyperbolicity" that characterizes an open and dense subset of three dimensional star flows. In higher dimensions, Bonatti and da Luz characterize an open and dense set of star vector fields by multi-singular hy…
Let $(M,Ω)$ be a connected symplectic 4-manifold and let $F=(J,H) : M \to \mathbb{R}^2$ be a completely integrable system on $M$ with only non-degenerate singularities and for which $J : M \to \mathbb{R}$ is a proper map. Assume that $F$ does not have singularities with hyperbolic blocks and that $p_1,...,p_n$ are the focus-focus singularities of $F$. For each subset $S=\{i_1,...,i_j\}$ we will show how to modify $F$ locally around any $p_i, i \in S$, in order to create a new integrable system $\tilde{F}=(J, \tilde{H}) : M \to \mathbb{R}^2$ such that its classical spectrum $\tilde{F}(M)$ conta…
It is known that a generic star vector field $X$ on a $3$ or $4$-dimensional manifold is such that its chain recurrence classes are either hyperbolic, or singular hyperbolic ([MPP] and [GSW]). Palis conjectured that every vector field must be approximated either by singular hyperbolic vector fields or by vector fields with homoclinic tangencies or heterodimensional cycles (associated to periodic orbits). We give a counter example in dimension $5$ (and higher). We present here an open set of star vector fields on a $5$-dimensional manifold for which two singular points with different indices be…
For diffeomorphisms or for non-singular flows, there are many results relating properties persistent under C1 perturbations and global structures for the dynamics ( such as hyperbolicity, partial hyperbolicity, dominated splitting). However, a difículty appears when a robust property of a flow holds on a set containing recurrent orbits accumulating a singular point. In [BdL] with Christan Bonatti we propose a a general procedure for adapting the usual hyperbolic structures to the singularities. In this paper, using this tool, we recover the results in [BDP] for flows, showing that robustly cha…
A vector field X is called a star flow if every periodic orbit, of any vector field C1-close to X, is hyperbolic. It is known that the chain recurrence classes of a generic star flow X on a 3 or 4 manifold are either hyperbolic or singular hyperbolic (see [MPP] for 3-manifolds and [GLW] on 4-manifolds). As it is defined, the notion of singular hyperbolicity forces the singularities in the same class to have the same index. However, in higher dimension (i.e $\geq 5$) \cite{BdL} shows that singularities of different indices may be robustly in the same chain recurrence class of a star flow. There…
We investigate the decay rates of correlations for nonuniformly hyperbolic systems with or without singularities, on piecewise Hölder observables. By constructing a new scheme of coupling methods using the probability renewal theory, we obtain the optimal bounds for decay rates of correlations for a large class of such observables. We also establish the alpha-mixing property for time series generated by these systems, which leads to a vast ranges of limiting theorems. Our results apply to rather general hyperbolic systems with singularities, including Bunimovich flower billiards, semidispersin…
The aim of this article is twofold: First we study holomorphic germs of parabolic diffeomorphisms of $(\mathbb{C}^2,0)$ that are reversed by a holomorphic reflection and posses an analytic first integral with non-degenerate critical point at the origin. We find a canonical formal normal form and provide a complete analytic classification (in formal generic cases) in terms of a collection of functional invariants. Their restriction to an irreductible component of the zero locus of the first integral reduces to the Birkhoff--Écalle--Voronin modulus of the 1-dimensional restricted parabolic germ.…
This article is concerned with the geometry of germs of real analytic surfaces in $(\mathbb{C}^2,0)$ having an isolated Cauchy-Riemann (CR) singularity at the origin. These are perturbations of {\it Bishop quadrics}. There are two kinds of CR singularities stable under perturbation~: {\it elliptic} and {\it hyperbolic}. Elliptic case was studied by Moser-Webster \cite{moser-webster} who showed that such a surface is locally, near the CR singularity, holomorphically equivalent to {\it normal form} from which lots of geometric features can be read off. In this article we focus on perturbations o…
For compact and for convex co-compact oriented hyperbolic surfaces, we prove an explicit correspondence between classical Ruelle resonant states and quantum resonant states, except at negative integers where the correspondence involves holomorphic sections of line bundles.
Singular hyperbolicity is a weakened form of hyperbolicity that has been introduced for vector fields in order to allow non-isolated singularities inside the non-wandering set. A typical example of a singular hyperbolic set is the Lorenz attractor. However, in contrast to uniform hyperbolicity, singular hyperbolicity does not immediately imply robust topological properties, such as the transitivity. In this paper, we prove that open and densely inside the space of $C^1$ vector fields of a compact manifold, any singular hyperbolic attractors is robustly transitive.
It is known that nonuniformly hyperbolic maps admitting singularities have at most countably many ergodic Sinai-Ruelle-Bowen (SRB) measures. These maps include the Belykh attractor, the geometric Lorenz attractor, and more general Lorenz-type systems. In this paper, we establish easily verifiable sufficient conditions guaranteeing that the number of ergodic SRB measures is at most finite, and provide examples and nonexamples showing that the conditions are necessary in general.
We present a geometric proof of the Poincaré-Dulac Normalization Theorem for analytic vector fields with singularities of Poincaré type. Our approach allows us to relate the size of the convergence domain of the linearizing transformation to the geometry of the complex foliation associated to the vector field. A similar construction is considered in the case of linearization of maps in a neighborhood of a hyperbolic fixed point.
We prove that any vector field on a three-dimensional compact manifold can be approximated in the C1-topology by one which is singular hyperbolic or by one which exhibits a homoclinic tangency associated to a regular hyperbolic periodic orbit. This answers a conjecture by Palis. During the proof we obtain several other results with independent interest: a compactification of the rescaled sectional Poincaré flow and a generalization of Mañé-Pujals-Sambarino theorem for three-dimensional C2 vector fields with singularities.
For a class of expanding maps with neutral singularities we prove the validity of a finite rank approximation scheme for the analysis of Sinai-Ruelle-Bowen measures. Earlier results of this sort were known only in the case of hyperbolic systems.
For a certain parametrized family of maps on the circle, with critical points and logarithmic singularities where derivatives blow up to infinity, a positive measure set of parameters was constructed in [19], corresponding to maps which exhibit nonuniformly hyperbolic behavior. For these parameters, we prove the existence of absolutely continuous invariant measures with good statistical properties, such as exponential decay of correlations. Combining our construction with the logarithmic nature of the singularities, we obtain a positive variance in Central Limit Theorem, for any nonconstant Hö…
Singular and sectional hyperbolic sets are the objects of the extension of the classical Smale Hyperbolic Theory to flows having invariant sets with singularities accumulated by regular orbits within the set. It is by now well-known that (partially) hyperbolic sets admit adapted metrics. We show the existence of singular adapted metrics for any singular hyperbolic set with respect to a $C^{1}$ vector field on finite dimensional compact manifolds. Moreover, we obtain 2-sectional adapted metrics for certain open classes of 2-sectional hyperbolic sets and also for any hyperbolic set.
Given a closed orientable hyperbolic manifold of dimension $\neq 3$ we prove that the multiplicity of the Pollicott-Ruelle resonance of the geodesic flow on perpendicular one-forms at zero agrees with the first Betti number of the manifold. Additionally, we prove that this equality is stable under small perturbations of the Riemannian metric and simultaneous small perturbations of the geodesic vector field within the class of contact vector fields. For more general perturbations we get bounds on the multiplicity of the resonance zero on all one-forms in terms of the first and zeroth Betti numb…
