We give necessary and sufficient conditions in order that inequalities of the type $$ \| T_K f\|_{L^q(dμ)}\leq C \|f\|_{L^p(dσ)}, \qquad f \in L^p(dσ), $$ hold for a class of integral operators $T_K f(x) = \int_{R^n} K(x, y) f(y) d σ(y)$ with nonnegative kernels, and measures $d μ$ and $dσ$ on $\R^n$, in the case where $p>q>0$ and $p>1$.
An important model is provided by the dyadic integral operator with kernel $K_{\mathcal D}(x, y) \sum_{Q\in{\mathcal D}} K(Q) χ_Q(x) χ_Q(y)$, where $\mathcal D=\{Q\}$ is the family of all dyadic cubes in $\R^n$, and $K(Q)$ are arbitrary nonnegative constants associated with $Q \in{\mathcal D}$.
The corresponding continuous versions are deduced from their dyadic counterparts. In particular, we show that, for the convolution operator $T_k f = k\star f$ with positive radially decreasing kernel $k(|x-y|)$, the trace inequality $$ \| T_k f\|_{L^q(dμ)}\leq C \|f\|_{L^p(d x)}, \qquad f \in L^p(dx), $$ holds if and only if ${\mathcal W}_{k}[μ] \in L^s (dμ)$, where $s = {\frac{q(p-1)}{p-q}}$. Here ${\mathcal W}_{k}[μ]$ is a nonlinear Wolff potential defined by ${\mathcal W}_{k}[μ](x)=\int_0^{+\infty} k(r) \bar{k}(r)^{\frac 1 {p-1}} μ(B(x,r))^{\frac 1{p-1}} r^{n-1} dr,$ and $\bar{k}(r)=\frac1{r^n}\int_0^r k(t) t^{n-1} dt$. Analogous inequalities for $1\le q < p$ were characterized earlier by the authors using a different method which is not applicable when $q<1$.
In this paper, we study function spaces defined via dyadic energies on the boundaries of regular trees. We show that correct choices of dyadic energies result in Besov-type spaces that are trace spaces of (weighted) first order Sobolev spaces.
In this paper, we study the traces of Orlicz-Sobolev spaces on a regular rooted tree. After giving a dyadic decomposition of the boundary of the regular tree, we present a characterization on the trace spaces of those first order Orlicz-Sobolev spaces whose Young function is of the form $t^p\log^λ(e+t)$, based on integral averages on dyadic elements of the dyadic decomposition.
Exploiting the mass transportation method, we prove a dual principle which implies directly the sharp Gagliardo-Nirenberg trace inequalities which was recently proved by Bolley et al. [BCFGG17]. Moreover, we determine all optimal functions for these obtained sharp Gagliardo-Nirenberg trace inequalities. This settles a question left open in [BCFGG17]. Finally, we use the sharp Gagliardo--Nirenberg trace inequality to establish their affine versions (i.e., the sharp affine Gagliardo-Nirenberg trace inequalities) which generalize a recent result of De Nápoli et al. [DeNapoli]. It was shown that t…
We prove boundary inequalities in arbitrary bounded Lipschitz domains on the trace space of Sobolev spaces. For that, we make use of the trace operator, its Moore-Penrose inverse, and of a special inner product. We show that our trace inequalities are particularly useful to prove harmonic inequalities, which serve as powerful tools to characterize the harmonic functions on Sobolev spaces of non-integer order.
We first present a determinant inequality related to partial traces for positive semidefinite block matrices. Our result extends a result of Lin [Czech. Math. J. 66 (2016)] and improves a result of Kuai [Linear Multilinear Algebra 66 (2018)]. Moreover, we provide a unified treatment of a result of Ando [ILAS Conference (2014)] and a recent result of Li, Liu and Huang [Operators and Matrices 15 (2021)]. Furthermore, we also extend some determinant inequalities involving partial traces to a larger class of matrices whose numerical ranges are contained in a sector. In addition, some extensions on…
We generalize von Neumann's well-known trace inequality, as well as related eigenvalue inequalities for hermitian matrices, to Schatten-class operators between complex Hilbert spaces of infinite dimension. To this end, we exploit some recent results on the $C$-numerical range of Schatten-class operators. For the readers' convenience, we sketched the proof of these results in the Appendix.
In this paper, we first present simple proofs of Choi's results [4], then we give a short alternative proof for Fiedler and Markham's inequality [6]. We also obtain additional matrix inequalities related to partial determinants.
In this paper we show that for a non-negative operator monotone function $f$ on $[0, \infty)$ such that $f(0)= 0$ and for any positive semidefinite matrices $A$ and $B$, $$ Tr((A-B)(f(A)-f(B))) \le Tr(|A-B|f(|A-B|)). $$ When the function $f$ is operator convex on $[0, \infty)$, the inequality is reversed.
A form of Sobolev inequalities for the symmetric gradient of vector-valued functions is proposed, which allows for arbitrary ground domains in $\mathbb R ^n$. In the relevant inequalities, boundary regularity of domains is replaced with information on boundary traces of trial functions. The inequalities so obtained exhibit the same exponents as in classical inequalities for the full gradient of Sobolev functions, in regular domains. Furthermore, they involve constants independent of the geometry of the domain, and hence yield novel results yet for smooth domains. Our approach relies upon a poi…
Let $S_α$ be the multilinear square function defined on the cone with aperture $α\geq 1$. In this paper, we investigate several kinds of weighted norm inequalities for $S_α$. We first obtain a sharp weighted estimate in terms of aperture $α$ and $\vec{w} \in A_{\vec{p}}$. By means of some pointwise estimates, we also establish two-weight inequalities including bump and entropy bump estimates, and Fefferman-Stein inequalities with arbitrary weights. Beyond that, we consider the mixed weak type estimates corresponding Sawyer's conjecture, for which a Coifman-Fefferman inequality with the precise…
We give analytic description for the completion of $C_0^\infty ( \mathbf{R}_+)$ in Dirichlet space $D^{1,p}(\mathbf{R}_+, ω):= \{ u:\mathbf{R}_+\rightarrow \mathbf{R}: u\ \hbox{ is locally absolutely continuous on} \ \mathbf{R}_+ \ {\rm and}\ \| u^{'}\|_{L^p(\mathbf{R}_+, ω)}<\infty \}$, for given continuous weight $ω$, in terms of the local $B_p$ conditions due to Kufner and Opic, where $1<p<\infty$. Moreover, we propose applications of our results to: analysis of Hardy inequalities, boundary value problems, complex interpolation theory, and to derivation of new Morrey type inequalities.
