The "t-model" for dimensional reduction is applied to the estimation of the rate of decay of solutions of the Burgers equation and of the Euler equations in two and three space dimensions. The model was first derived in a statistical mechanics context, but here we analyze it purely as a numerical tool and prove its convergence. In the Burgers case the model captures the rate of decay exactly, as was already previously shown. For the Euler equations in two space dimensions, the model preserves energy as it should. In three dimensions, we find a power law decay in time and observe a temporal intermittency.
The non-isentropic compressible Euler-Maxwell system is investigated in $R^3$ in the present paper, and the $L^q$ time decay rate for the global smooth solution is established. It is shown that the density and temperature of electron converge to the equilibrium states at the same rate $(1+t)^{-11/4}$ in $L^q$ norm.
By rewriting a bipolar Euler-Poisson equations with damping into an Euler equation with damping coupled with an Euler-Poisson equation with damping, and using a new spectral analysis, we obtain the optimal decay results of the solutions in $L^2$-norm, which improve theose in \cite{Li3, Wu3}. More precisely, the velocities $u_1,u_2$ decay at the $L^2-$rate $(1+t)^{-{5}{4}}$, which is faster than the normal $L^2-$rate $(1+t)^{-{3}{4}}$ for the Heat equation and the Navier-Stokes equations. In addition, the disparity of two densities $ρ_1-ρ_2$ and the disparity of two velocities $u_1-u_2$ decay a…
Dissipative hyperbolic systems of \textit{regularity-loss} have been recently received increasing attention. Usually, extra higher regularity is assumed to obtain the optimal decay estimates, in comparison with that for the global-in-time existence of solutions. In this paper, we develop a new frequency-localization time-decay property, which enables us to overcome the technical difficulty and improve the minimal decay-regularity for dissipative systems. As an application, it is shown that the optimal decay rate of $L^1(\mathbb{R}^3)$-$L^2(\mathbb{R}^3)$ is available for Euler-Maxwell equation…
We study the 1-d isentropic Euler equations with time-decayed damping \begin{equation} \left\{ \begin{aligned} &\partial_t ρ+\partial_x(ρu)=0, \\ &\partial_t(ρu)+ \partial_x(ρu^2)+\partial_xp(ρ)=-\fracμ{1+t}ρu,\\ &ρ|_{t=0}=1+\varepsilonρ_0(x),u|_{t=0}=\varepsilon u_0(x). \end{aligned} \right. \nonumber \end{equation} This work is inspired by a recent work of F. Hou, I. Witt and H.C. Yin \cite{Hou01}. In \cite{Hou01}, they proved a global existence and blow-up result of 3-d irrotational Euler flow with time-dependent damping. In the 1-d case, we will prove a different result when the damping de…
In this paper, we consider an Euler-Bernoulli beam equation with time-varying internal fluid. We assume that the fluid is moving with non-constant velocity and dynamical boundary conditions are satisfied. We prove the existence and uniqueness of global solution under suitable assumptions on the tension of beam and on the parameters of the problem. Afterwards, we establish the exponential stability of the solution by introducing a suitable Lyapunov functional.
In this paper, we investigate the energy decay of hyperbolic systems of wave-wave, wave-Euler- Bernoulli beam and beam-beam types. The two equations are coupled through boundary connection with only one localized non-smooth fractional Kelvin-Voigt damping. First, we reformulate each system into an augmented model and using a general criteria of Arendt-Batty, we prove that our models are strongly stable. Next, by using frequency domain approach, combined with multiplier technique and some interpolation inequalities, we establish different types of polynomial energy decay rate which depends on t…
This work is devoted to the optimal decay problem for the Euler-Poisson two-fluid system, which is a classical hydrodynamic model arising in semiconductor sciences. By exploring the influence of the electronic field on the dissipative structure, it is first revealed that the \textit{irrotationality} plays a key role such that the two-fluid system has the same dissipative structure as generally hyperbolic systems satisfying the Shizuta-Kawashima condition. The fact inspires us to give a new decay framework which pays less attention on the traditional spectral analysis. Furthermore, various deca…
Due to the dissipative structure of \textit{regularity-loss}, extra higher regularity than that for the global-in-time existence is usually imposed to obtain the optimal decay rates of classical solutions to dissipative systems. The aim of this paper is to seek the lowest regularity index for the optimal decay rate of $L^{1}(\mathbb{R}^n)$-$L^2(\mathbb{R}^n)$. Consequently, a notion of minimal decay regularity for dissipative systems of regularity-loss is firstly proposed. To do this, we develop a new time-decay estimate of $L^p(\mathbb{R}^n)$-$L^{q}(\mathbb{R}^n)$-$L^{r}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ type b…
We study the large time behavior of solutions near a constant equilibrium to the compressible Euler-Maxwell system in $\r3$. We first refine a global existence theorem by assuming that the $H^3$ norm of the initial data is small, but the higher order derivatives can be arbitrarily large. If the initial data belongs to $\Dot{H}^{-s}$ ($0\le s<3/2$) or $\dot{B}_{2,\infty}^{-s}$ ($0<s\le3/2$), by a regularity interpolation trick, we obtain the various decay rates of the solution and its higher order derivatives. As an immediate byproduct, the usual $L^p$--$L^2$ $(1\le p\le 2)$ type of the decay r…
In this paper we will study the asymptotic behaviour of the energy decay of a transmission plate equation with force and moment feedback. Precisly, we shall prove that the energy decay at least logarithmically over the time. The method consist to use the classical second order Carleman estimate to estabish a resolvent estimate which provide by the famous Burq's result [Bur98] the kind of decay above mentionned.
We study the isentropic Euler equations with time-dependent damping, given by $\fracμ{(1+t)^λ}ρu$. Here, $λ,μ$ are two non-negative constants to describe the decay rate of damping with respect to time. We will investigate the global existence and asymptotic behavior of small data solutions to the Euler equations when $0<λ<1,0<μ$ in multi-dimensions $n\geq 1$. The asymptotic behavior will coincide with the one that obtained by many authors in the case $λ=0$. We will also show that the solution can only decay polynomially in time while in the three dimensions, the vorticity will decay exponentia…
In this article we consider the discretely self-similar singular solutions of the Euler equations, and the possible velocity profiles concerned not only have decaying spatial asymptotics, but also have unconventional non-decaying asymptotics. By relying on the local energy inequality of the velocity profiles and the bootstrapping method, we prove some nonexistence results and show the energy behavior of the possible nontrivial velocity profiles. For the case with non-decaying asymptotics, the needed representation formula of the pressure profile in terms of velocity profiles is also given and …
The aim of this manuscript is to study the influence of the vorticity on the existence time in fluid systems for which global smoothness and decay is known in the case of small irrotational data. We focus on two examples: the Euler-Korteweg system and the two-fluid Euler Maxwell system. We prove that the lower bound of the lifespan of these systems is no less than the inverse of the $H^s$ $(s>5/2)$ norm of the rotational part of the initial velocity. Our approach is based on energy estimates and the fast time decay results of global solutions to these systems with small irrotational initial da…
This paper is concerned with the multi-dimensional compressible Euler equations with time-dependent damping of the form $-\fracμ{(1+t)^λ}ρ\boldsymbol u$ in $\mathbb R^n$, where $n\ge2$, $μ>0$, and $λ\in[0,1)$. When $λ>0$ is bigger, the damping effect time-asymptotically gets weaker, which is called under-damping. We show the optimal decay estimates of the solutions such that $\|\partial_x^α(ρ-1)\|_{L^2(\mathbb R^n)}\approx (1+t)^{-\frac{1+λ}{2}(\frac{n}{2}+|α|)}$, and $\|\partial_x^α\boldsymbol u\|_{L^2(\mathbb R^n)}\approx (1+t)^{-\frac{1+λ}{2}(\frac{n}{2}+|α|)-\frac{1-λ}{2}}$, and see how th…
The bipolar non-isentropic compressible Euler-Maxwell system is investigated in $R^3$ in the present paper, and the $L^q$ time decay rate for the global smooth solution is established. It is shown that the total densities, total temperatures and magnetic field of two carriers converge to the equilibrium states at the same rate $(1+t)^{-3/2+3q/2}$ in $L^q$ norm. But, both the difference of densities and the difference of temperatures of two carriers decay at the rate $(1+t)^{-2-\frac{1}{q}}$, and the velocity and electric field decay at the rate $(1+t)^{-3/2+\frac{1}{2q}}$. This phenomenon on t…
This paper is concerned with the multi-dimensional compressible Euler equations with time-dependent over-damping of the form $-\fracμ{(1+t)^λ}ρ\boldsymbol u$ in $\mathbb R^n$, where $n\ge2$, $μ>0$, and $λ\in[-1,0)$. This continues our previous work dealing with the under-damping case for $λ\in[0,1)$. We show the optimal decay estimates of the solutions such that for $λ\in(-1,0)$ and $n\ge2$, $\|ρ-1\|_{L^2(\mathbb R^n)}\approx(1+t)^{-\frac{1+λ}{4}n}$ and $\|\boldsymbol u\|_{L^2(\mathbb R^n)}\approx (1+t)^{-\frac{1+λ}{4}n-\frac{1-λ}{2}}$, which indicates that a stronger damping gives rise to sol…
In this paper we use maximum principle in the far field region for the time dependent self-similar Euler equations to exclude discretely self-similar blow-up for the Euler equations of the incompressible fluid flows. Our decay conditions near spatial infinity of the blow-up profile are given explicitly in terms the coefficient in the equations. We also deduce triviality of the discretely self-similar solution to the magnetohydrodynamic system(MHD), under suitable decay conditions near spatial infinity than the previous one. Applying similar argument directly to the Euler equations, we obtain a…
We address the problem of analyticity up to the boundary of solutions to the Euler equations in the half space. We characterize the rate of decay of the real-analyticity radius of the solution $u(t)$ in terms of $\exp{\int_{0}^{t} \Vert \nabla u(s) \Vert_{L^\infty} ds}$, improving the previously known results. We also prove the persistence of the sub-analytic Gevrey-class regularity for the Euler equations in a half space, and obtain an explicit rate of decay of the radius of Gevrey-class regularity.
In this paper we will study the asymptotic behaviour of the energy decay of a transmission plate equation with locally distributed Kelvin-Voigt feedback. Precisly, we shall prove that the energy decay at least logarithmically over the time. The originality of this method comes from the fact that using a Carleman estimate for a transmission second order system which will be derived from the plate equation to establish a resolvent estimate which provide, by the famous Burq's result [Bur98], the kind of decay mentionned above.
We construct the global solution to the Cauchy's problem of the bipolar Euler-Poisson equations with damping in $\mathbb{R}^3$ when $H^3$ norm of the initial data is small. If further, the $\dot{H}^{-s}$ norm ($0\leq s<3/2)$ or $\dot{B}_{2,\infty}^{-s}$ norm ($0<s\leq3/2$) of the initial data is bounded, we give the optimal decay rates of the solution. As a byproduct, the decay results of the $L^p-L^2$ ($1\leq p\leq2$) type hold without the smallness of the $L^p$ norm of the initial data. In particular, we deduce that $\|\nabla^k(ρ_1-ρ_2)\|_{L^2} \sim(1+t)^{-5/4-\frac{k}{2}}$ and $\|\nabla^k(ρ…

We consider the Euler equations in a three-dimensional Gevrey-class bounded domain. Using Lagrangian coordinates we obtain the Gevrey-class persistence of the solution, up to the boundary, with an explicit estimate on the rate of decay of the Gevrey-class regularity radius.
We first construct the global unique solution by assuming that the initial data is small in the H^3 norm but its higher order derivatives could be large. If further the initial data belongs to \Dot{H}^{-s} (0\le s<3/2) or \dot{B}_{2,\infty}^{-s} (0< s\le3/2), we obtain the various decay rates of the solution and its higher order derivatives. As an immediate byproduct, the L^p-L^2 (1\le p\le 2) type of the decay rates follow without requiring the smallness for L^p norm of initial data. In particular, the decay rate for the difference of densities could reach to (1+t)^{-13/4} in L^2 norm.
Because pressure is determined globally for the incompressible Euler equations, a localized change to the initial velocity will have an immediate effect throughout space. For solutions to be physically meaningful, one would expect such effects to decrease with distance from the localized change, giving the solutions a type of stability. Indeed, this is the case for solutions having spatial decay, as can be easily shown. We consider the more difficult case of solutions lacking spatial decay, and show that such stability still holds, albeit in a somewhat weaker form.
In this paper, we analyze the pressureless damped Euler-Riesz equations posed in either $\mathbb{R}^d$ or $\mathbb{T}^d$. We construct the global-in-time existence and uniqueness of classical solutions for the system around a constant background state. We also establish large-time behaviors of classical solutions showing the solutions towards the equilibrium as time goes to infinity. For the whole space case, we first show the algebraic decay rate of solutions under additional assumptions on the initial data compared to the existence theory. We then refine the argument to have the exponential …

In this paper we study the uniqueness property of solutions to the steady incompressible Euler equations with perturbations in $\Bbb R^N$. Our perturbations include as special cases the Euler equations with a `single signed' nonlinear term, the self-similar Euler equations, and the steady Navier-Stokes equations. For these equations show that suitable decay assumptions at infinity on the solution or its derivatives, imposed by the $L^q$ conditions imply that the only possible solution is zero.
We consider the barotropic Euler equations in dimension d>1 with decaying density at spatial infinity. The phase portrait of the nonlinear ode governing the equation for spherically symmetric self-similar solutions has been introduced in the pioneering work of Guderley. It allows to construct global profiles of the self-similar problem, which however turn out to be generically non-smooth across the associated light (acoustic) cone. In a suitable range of barotropic laws and for a sequence of quantized speeds accumulating to a critical value, we prove the existence of non-generic C^\infty self-…
We consider the Euler-Bernoulli beam equation with a local Kelvin-Voigt dissipation type in the interval $(-1,1)$. The coefficient damping is only effective in $(0,1)$ and is degenerating near the $0$ point with a speed at least equal to $x^α$ where $α\in(0,5)$. We prove that the semigroup corresponding to the system is polynomially stable and the decay rate depends on the degeneracy speed $α$.
In this paper we consider the locally backward self-similar solutions for the Euler system, and focus on the case that the possible nontrivial velocity profiles have non-decaying asymptotics. We derive the meaningful representation formula of the pressure profile in terms of velocity profiles in this case, and by using it and the local energy inequality of profiles, we prove some nonexistence results and show the energy behavior concerning the possible velocity profiles.
In this work we prove the weighted Gevrey regularity of solutions to the incompressible Euler equation with initial data decaying polynomially at infinity. This is motivated by the well-posedness problem of vertical boundary layer equation for fast rotating fluid. The method presented here is based on the basic weighted $L^2$- estimate, and the main difficulty arises from the estimate on the pressure term due to the appearance of weight function.
It has been known since work of Lichtenstein [42] and Gunther [29] in the 1920's that the $3D$ incompressible Euler equation is locally well-posed in the class of velocity fields with Hölder continuous gradient and suitable decay at infinity. It is shown here that these local solutions can develop singularities in finite time, even for some of the simplest three-dimensional flows.
In this note we show that Luo-Hou's ansatz for the self-similar solution to the axisymmetric solution to the 3D Euler equations leads to triviality of the solution under suitable decay condition of the blow-up profile. The equations for the blow-up profile reduces to an over-determined system of partial differential equations, whose only solution with decay is the trivial solution. We also propose a generalization of Luo-Hou's ansatz. Using the vanishing of the normal velocity at the boundary, we show that this generalized self-similar ansatz also leads to a trivial solution. These results sho…
We prove that the 2d Euler equation is globally well-posed in a space of vector fields having spatial asymptotic expansion at infinity of any a priori given order. The asymptotic coefficients of the solutions are holomorphic functions of $t$, do not involve (spacial) logarithmic terms, and develop even when the initial data has fast decay at infinity. We discuss the evolution in time of the asymptotic terms and their approximation properties.
We considered classical solutions to the initial boundary value problem for non-isentropic compressible Euler equations with damping in multi-dimensions. We obtained global a priori estimates and global existence results of classical solutions to both non-isentropic Euler equations with damping and their nonlinear diffusion equations under small data assumption. We proved the pressure and velocity decay exponentially to constants, while the entropy and density can not approach constants. Finally, we proved the pressure and velocity of the non-isentropic Euler equations with damping converge ex…
