We consider a surface $M$ immersed in $\mathbb{R}^3$ with induced metric $g=ψδ_2$ where $δ_2$ is the two dimensional Euclidean metric. We then construct a system of partial differential equations that constrain $M$ to lift to a minimal surface via the Weierstrauss-Enneper representation demanding the metric is of the above form. It is concluded that the associated surfaces connecting the prescribed minimal surface and its conjugate surface satisfy the system. Moreover, we find a non-trivial symmetry of the PDE which generates a one parameter family of surfaces isometric to a specified minimal surface. We demonstrate an instance of the analysis for the helicoid and catenoid.
We investigate isometric immersions of locally conformally Kaehler metrics into Hopf manifolds. In particular, we study Hopf-induced metrics on compact complex surfaces.
Due to Janet-Cartan's theorem, any analytic Riemannian manifolds can be locally isometrically embedded into a sufficiently high dimensional Euclidean space. However, for an individual Riemannian manifold (M,g), it is in general hard to determine the least dimensional Euclidean space into which (M,g) can be locally isometrically embedded, even in the case where (M,g) is homogeneous. In this paper, when the space (M,g) is locally isometric to a three-dimensional Lie group equipped with a left-invariant Riemannian metric, we classify all such spaces that can be locally isometrically embedded into…
On any compact Riemann surface there always exists a singular non-CSC (constant scalar curvature) extremal K$\ddot{a}$hler metric which is called a non-CSC HCMU (the Hessian of the Curvature of the Metric is Umbilical) metric. In this paper, by moving frames, we show that any non-CSC HCMU metric can not be isometrically minimal immersed into 3-dimensional real space forms even locally. In general, any non-CSC HCMU metric can not be isometrically immersed into 3-dimensional real space forms with constant mean curvature (CMC).
Let $M$ be a Riemannian manifold with dimension greater or equal to $3$ which admits a complete, finite-volume Riemannian metric $g_0$ locally isometric to a rank-1 symmetric space of non-compact type. The volume entropy rigidity theorem asserts that $g_0$ minimizes a normalized volume growth entropy among all complete, finite-volume, Riemannian metric on $M$. We will repair a gap in the proof when $g_0$ is locally isometric to the Cayley hyperbolic space.
In this paper, we provide families of second order non-linear partial differential equations, describing pseudospherical surfaces (pss equations), with the property of having local isometric immersions in E^3, with principal curvatures depending on finite-order jets of solutions of the differential equation. These equations occupy a particularly special place amongst pss equations, since a series of recent papers [2, 7, 11, 12, 13], on several classes of pss equations, seemed to suggest that only the sine-Gordon equation had the above property. Explicit examples are given, which include the sh…
The purpose of this article is to prove that, under suitable constrains on the electrovacuum spacetime $M$, if $Σ\subset M$ is an embedded strictly stable minimal two-sphere which locally maximizes the charged Hawking mass, then there exist a neighborhood of it in $M$ isometric to the Reissner-Nordström-de Sitter space. At the same time, motived by \cite{Brendle}, we will deduce an estimate for area of a two-sphere which is locally area minimizing in an electrovacuum spacetime. Moreover, if the equality holds, then there exist a neighborhood of it in $M$ isometric to the charged Nariai space.
Concerning the problem of classifying complete submanifolds of Euclidean space with codimension two admitting genuine isometric deformations, until now the only known examples with the maximal possible rank four are the real Kaehler minimal submanifolds classified by Dajczer-Gromoll \cite{dg3} in parametric form. These submanifolds behave like minimal surfaces, namely, if simple connected either they admit a nontrivial one-parameter associated family of isometric deformations or are holomorphic. In this paper, we characterize a new class of complete minimal genuinely deformable Euclidean subma…
We deal with minimal surfaces in spheres that are locally isometric to a pseudoholomorphic curve in a totally geodesic $\mathbb{S}^{5}$ in the nearly K{ä}hler sphere $\mathbb{S}^6$. Being locally isometric to a pseudoholomorphic curve in $\mathbb{S}^5$ turns out to be equivalent to the Ricci-like condition $Δ\log(1-K)=6K,$ where $K$ is the Gaussian curvature of the induced metric. Besides flat minimal surfaces in spheres, direct sums of surfaces in the associated family of pseudoholomorphic curves in $\mathbb{S}^5$ do satisfy this Ricci-like condition. Surfaces in both classes are exceptional …
The object of the present paper is to characterize two classes of almost Kenmotsu manifolds admitting Ricci-Yamabe soliton. It is shown that a $(k,μ)'$-almost Kenmotsu manifold admitting a Ricci-Yamabe soliton or gradient Ricci-Yamabe soliton is locally isometric to the Riemannian product $\mathbb{H}^{n+1}(-4) \times \mathbb{R}^n$. For the later case, the potential vector field is pointwise collinear with the Reeb vector field. Also, a $(k,μ)$-almost Kenmotsu manifold admitting certain Ricci-Yamabe soliton with the curvature property $Q \cdot P = 0$ is locally isometric to the hyperbolic space…
We find necessary and sufficient conditions for existence of a locally isometric embedding of a vacuum space-time into a conformally-flat 5-space. We explicitly construct such embeddings for any spherically symmetric Lorentzian metric in $3+1$ dimensions as a hypersurface in $R^{4, 1}$. For the Schwarzschild metric the embedding is global, and extends through the horizon all the way to the $r=0$ singularity. We discuss the asymptotic properties of the embedding in the context of Penrose's theorem on Schwarzschild causality. We finally show that the Hawking temperature of the Schwarzschild metr…
We study the moduli space of congruence classes of isometric surfaces with the same mean curvature in 4-dimensional space forms. Having the same mean curvature means that there exists a parallel vector bundle isometry between the normal bundles that preserves the mean curvature vector fields. We prove that if both Gauss lifts of a compact surface to the twistor bundle are not vertically harmonic, then there exist at most three nontrivial congruence classes. We show that surfaces with a vertically harmonic Gauss lift possess a holomorphic quadratic differential, yielding thus a Hopf-type theore…
We prove rigidity results involving the Hawking mass for surfaces immersed in a $3$-dimensional, complete Riemannian manifold $(M,g)$ with non-negative scalar curvature (resp. with scalar curvature bounded below by $-6$). Roughly, the main result states that if an open subset $Ω\subset M$ satisfies that every point has a neighbourhood $U\subset Ω$ such that the supremum of the Hawking mass of surfaces contained in $U$ is non-positive, then $Ω$ is locally isometric to Euclidean ${\mathbb R}^3$ (resp. locally isometric to the Hyperbolic 3-space ${\mathbb H}^3$). Under mild asymptotic conditions …
In this paper we present a rigidity theorem for locally isometric hypersurfaces with a curvature restriction in de Sitter space. This is an analogue to the case for Riemannian space forms given by Guan and Shen in [5].
A priori bounds for co-dimension one isometric embeddings
证明了在$S^n$上具有非负截面曲率的度量$g$的等距嵌入到$R^{n+1}$中的$C^4$的第二基本形式的迹的先验界,即关于$g$的标量曲率和直径的先验界.这些估计给出了一个约束的外在几何的内在量。他们推广了最初由Weyl获得的$n=2$和正曲率的估计,然后由P.Guan和第一作者获得的非负曲率和$n=2$的估计。利用Evans和Krylov对凹的完全非线性椭圆型偏微分方程的$C^{2,α}$内部估计,这些界允许我们得到以下收敛定理:对于任何$ε>0$,在欧氏空间$R^{n+1}$中等距嵌入的以$ε$为界的非负截面曲率和标量曲率的度量集在Hölder空间$C^{4,α}$,$0<α<1$中是封闭的。这些结果是为了理解我们提出的Weyl嵌入问题的以下高维版本而获得的:\emph{Suppose that $g$ is a smooth metric of non-negative sectional curvature and positive scalar curvature on §^n$ which is locally isometrically embeddable in $R^{n+1}$. Does $(S^n,g)$ then admit a smooth global isometric embedding into $R^{n+1}$?}
We continue our exploration of the extent to which the spectrum encodes the local geometry of a locally homogeneous three-manifold and find that if $(M,g)$ and $(N,h)$ are a pair of locally homogeneous, locally non-isometric isospectral three-manifolds, where $M$ is an elliptic three-manifold, then $(1)$ $N$ is also an elliptic three-manifold, $(2)$ $M$ and $N$ have fundamental groups of different orders, $(3)$ $(M,g)$ and $(N,h)$ both have non-degenerate Ricci tensors and $(4)$ the metrics $g$ and $h$ are sufficiently far from a metric of constant sectional curvature. We are unaware of any su…
We explore all warped $AdS_4\times_w M^{D-4}$ backgrounds with the most general allowed fluxes that preserve more than 16 supersymmetries in $D=10$- and $11$-dimensional supergravities. After imposing the assumption that either the internal space $M^{D-4}$ is compact without boundary or the isometry algebra of the background decomposes into that of AdS$_4$ and that of $M^{D-4}$, we find that there are no such backgrounds in IIB supergravity. Similarly in IIA supergravity, there is a unique such background with 24 supersymmetries locally isometric to $AdS_4\times \mathbb{CP}^3$, and in $D=11$ s…
