We study the existence of positive radially symmetric solution for the singular $p$-Laplacian Dirichlet problem, $-\bigtriangleup_p u =λ|u|^{p-2} u-γu^{-α}$ where $λ>0,γ>0$ and, $0<α<1$, are parameters and $Ω$, the domain of the equation, is a ball in $\mathbb{R}^N$. By using some variational methods we show that, if $λ$ is contained in some interval, then the problem has a radially symmetric positive solution on the ball. Moreover, we obtain a nonexistence result, whenever $λ\leq 0, γ<0$ and $Ω$ is a bounded domain, with smooth boundary.
In this note we present the Pohozaev identity for the fractional Laplacian. As a consequence of this identity, we prove the nonexistence of nontrivial bounded solutions to semilinear problems with supercritical nonlinearities in star-shaped domains.
The Cauchy problem in $\mathbb{R}^d,$ $d\geq 1,$ for a non-local in time p-Laplacian equations is considered. The nonexistence of nontrivial global weak solutions by using the test function method is obtained.
We consider the exterior Dirichlet problem for Monge-Ampère equation with prescribed asymptotic behavior. Based on earlier work by Caffarelli and the first named author, we complete the characterization of the existence and nonexistence of solutions in terms of their asymptotic behaviors.
In this paper, we are interested to analyze a nonlocal nonlinear parabolic equation with fractional Laplacian. We show that there are no nontrivial global weak solutions using the test function method.
In this paper a Pohozaev type inequality is stated for variable exponent Sobolev spaces in order to prove non existence of nontrivial weak solutions for a Dirichlet problem with non-standard growth. The obtained results generalize a previous work of M. Ôtani.
We give a new region of existence of solutions to the superhomogeneous Dirichlet problem $$ \quad \begin{array}{l} -Δ_{p} u= v^δ\quad v>0\quad {in}\quad B,\cr -Δ_{q} v = u^μ\quad u>0\quad {in}\quad B, \cr u=v=0 \quad {on}\quad \partial B, \end{array}\leqno{(S_R)} $$ where $B$ is the ball of radius $R>0$ centered at the origin in $\RR^N.$ Here $δ, μ>0$ and $ Δ_{m} u={\rm div}(|\nabla u|^{m-2}\nabla u) $ is the $m-$Laplacian operator for $m>1$.
We deal with Dirichlet problems of the form $$ Δu+f(u)=0 \mbox{ in }Ω,\qquad u=0\ \mbox{ on }\partial Ω$$ where $Ω$ is a bounded domain of $\mathbb{R}^n$, $n\ge 3$, and $f$ has supercritical growth from the viewpoint of Sobolev embedding. In particular, we consider the case where $Ω$ is a tubular domain $T_\varepsilon(Γ_k)$ with thickness $\varepsilon>0$ and centre $Γ_k$, a $k$-dimensional, smooth, compact submanifold of $\mathbb{R}^n$. Our main result concerns the case where $k=1$ and $Γ_k$ is contractible in itself. In this case we prove that the problem does not have nontrivial solutions fo…
In this paper, we establish the results on the existence, nonexistence and multiplicity of positive solutions to singular boundary value problems involving $φ$-Laplacian. Our approach is based on the fixed point index theory. The interesting point is that a result for the existence of three positive solutions is given.
We are concerned with the nonexistence of sign-changing global weak solutions for a class of semilinear parabolic differential inequalities with convection terms in exterior domains. A weight function of the form $t^α|x|^σ$ is considered in front of the power nonlinearity. Two types of non-homogeneous boundary conditions are investigated: Neumann-type and Dirichlet-type boundary conditions. Using a unified approach, for each case, we establish sufficient criteria for the nonexistence of global weak solutions. When $α=0$, the critical exponent in the sense of Fujita is obtained. This exponent i…
In this paper we prove the Pohozaev identity for the weighted anisotropic $p$-Laplace operator. As an application of our identity, we deduce the nonexistence of nontrivial solutions of the Dirichlet problem for the weighted anisotropic $p$-Laplacian in star-shaped domains of $\mathbb{R}^n$. We also provide an upper bound estimate for the first Dirichet eigenvalue of the anisotropic $p$-Laplacian on bounded domains of $\mathbb{R}^n$, some sharp estimates for the torsion function of compact manifolds with boundary and a nonexistence result for the solutions of the Laplace equation on closed Riem…
We prove nonexistence of nontrivial bounded solutions to some nonlinear problems involving nonlocal operators of the form \[Lu(x)=\sum a_{ij}\partial_{ij}u+{\rm PV}\int_{\R^n}(u(x)-u(x+y))K(y)dy.\] These operators are infinitesimal generators of symmetric Lévy processes. Our results apply to even kernels $K$ satisfying that $K(y)|y|^{n+σ}$ is nondecreasing along rays from the origin, for some $σ\in(0,2)$ in case $a_{ij}\equiv0$ and for $σ=2$ in case that $(a_{ij})$ is a positive definite symmetric matrix. Our nonexistence results concern Dirichlet problems for $L$ in star-shaped domains with c…
We consider a nonlinear Dirichlet problem driven by the $(p,q)$-Laplacian and with a reaction which is parametric and exhibits the combined effects of a singular term and of a superdiffusive one. We prove an existence and nonexistence result for positive solutions depending on the value of the parameter $λ\in \overset{\circ}{\mathbb{R}}_+=(0,+\infty)$.
In this paper we study existence and nonexistence of nonnegative distributional solutions for a class of semilinear fractional elliptic equations involving the Hardy potential.
In this paper we study the problem of bifurcation from the origin of solutions of elliptic Dirichlet problems involving critical Sobolev exponent, defined on a bounded domain $Ω$ in $\mathbb{R} ^N$: we prove that the first critical case are $N=3, 4$ (not only N=3, as just proved by Brezis and Nirenberg), exhibiting two nonexistence results for a class of elliptic problem in these dimensions.
In this paper, we are interested in studying the existence or non-existence of solutions for a class of elliptic problems involving the $N$-Laplacian operator in the whole space. The nonlinearity considered involves critical Trudinger-Moser growth. Our approach is non-variational, and in this way, we can address a wide range of problems not yet contained in the literature. Even $W^{1,N}(\mathbb{R}^N)\hookrightarrow L^\infty(\mathbb{R}^N)$ failing, we establish $\|u_λ\|_{L^\infty(\mathbb{R}^N)} \leq C \|u\|_{W^{1,N}(\mathbb{R}^N)}^Θ$ (for some $Θ>0$), when $u$ is a solution. To conclude, we exp…
We prove some existence and nonexistence results for a class of critical $(p,q)$-Laplacian problems in a bounded domain. Our results extend and complement those in the literature for model cases.
The existence of at least two solutions to superlinear integral equation in cone is proved using the Krasnosielskii Fixed Point Theorem. The result is applied to the Dirichlet BVPs with the fractional Laplacian.
In the present paper we obtain growth monotonicity estimates of the principal Dirichlet-Laplacian eigenvalue in bounded non-Lipschitz domains. The proposed method is based on composition operators generated by quasiconformal mappings and their applications to weighted Sobolev inequalities.
We prove the attainability of the best constant in the fractional Hardy--Sobolev inequality with boundary singularity for the Spectral Dirichlet Laplacian. The main assumption is the average concavity of the boundary at the origin.
In this article, we investigate the existence, uniqueness, nonexistence, and regularity of weak solutions to the nonlinear fractional elliptic problem of type $(P)$ (see below) involving singular nonlinearity and singular weights in smooth bounded domain. We prove the existence of weak solution in $W_{loc}^{s,p}(Ω)$ via approximation method. Establishing a new comparison principle of independent interest, we prove the uniqueness of weak solution for $0 \leq δ< 1+s- \frac{1}{p}$ and furthermore the nonexistence of weak solution for $δ\geq sp.$ Moreover, by virtue of barrier arguments we study t…
We establish an upper bound of the sum of the eigenvalues for the Dirichlet problem of the fractional Laplacian. Our result is obtained by a subtle computation of the Rayleigh quotient for specific functions.
We prove nonlinear lower bounds and commutator estimates for the Dirichlet fractional Laplacian in bounded domains. The applications include bounds for linear drift-diffusion equations with nonlocal dissipation and global existence of weak solutions of critical surface quasi-geostrophic equations.
We consider an optimal control problem governed by a class of boundary value problem with the spectral Dirichlet fractional Laplacian. Some sufficient condition for the existence of optimal processes is stated. The proof of the main result relies on variational structure of the problem. To show that boundary value problem with the Dirichlet fractional Laplacian has a weak solution we employ the renowned Ky Fan Theorem.
We study spectral stability estimates of the Dirichlet eigenvalues of the Laplacian in non-convex domains $Ω\subset\mathbb R^2$. With the help of these estimates we obtain asymptotically sharp inequalities of ratios of eigenvalues in the frameworks of the Payne-Pólya-Weinberger inequalities. These estimates are equivalent to spectral gap estimates of the Dirichlet eigenvalues of the Laplacian in non-convex domains in terms of conformal (hyperbolic) geometry.
We introduce a new method for proving the nonexistence of positive supersolutions of elliptic inequalities in unbounded domains of $\mathbb{R}^n$. The simplicity and robustness of our maximum principle-based argument provides for its applicability to many elliptic inequalities and systems, including quasilinear operators such as the $p$-Laplacian, and nondivergence form fully nonlinear operators such as Bellman-Isaacs operators. Our method gives new and optimal results in terms of the nonlinear functions appearing in the inequalities, and applies to inequalities holding in the whole space as w…
We construct Green functions of Dirichlet boundary value problems for sub-Laplacians on certain unbounded domains of a prototype Heisenberg-type group (prototype H-type group, in short). We also present solutions in an explicit form of the Dirichlet problem for the sub-Laplacian with non-zero boundary datum on half-space, quadrant-space, etc, as well as in a strip.
Local and global properties of minimal solutions for the heat equation generated by the Dirichlet fractional Laplacian negatively perturbed by Hardy's potentials on open subsets of $\R^d$ are analyzed. As a byproduct we obtain instantaneous blow-up of nonnegative solutions in the supercritical case.
In this paper, we prove an isoperimetric inequality for lower order eigenvalues of the Dirichlet Laplacian on bounded domains of a Euclidean space which strengthens the well-known Ashbaugh-Beguria inequality conjectured by Payne-Pólya-Weinberger on the ratio of the first two Dirichlet eigenvalues and makes an important step toward the proof of a conjecture by Ashbaugh-Benguria.
In this paper we analyze the asymptotic behavior of the Dirichlet fractional Laplacian $(-Δ_{\mathbb R^{n+k}})^{s}$, with $s\in (0, 1)$, on bounded domains in $\mathbb R^{n+k}$ that become unbounded in the last $k$-directions. A dimension reduction phenomenon is observed and described via $Γ$-convergence.
In this paper we study the nonlinear Dirichlet problem involving p(x)-Laplacian (hemivariational inequality) with nonsmooth potential. By using nonsmooth critical point theory for locally Lipschitz functionals due to Chang and the properties of variational Sobolev spaces, we establish conditions which ensure the existence of solution for our problem.
We study existence, nonexistence, and uniqueness of positive radial solutions for a class of nonlinear systems driven by Pucci extremal operators under a Lane-Emden coupling configuration. Our results are based on the analysis of the associated quadratic dynamical system and energy methods. For both regular and exterior domain radial solutions we obtain new regions of existence and nonexistence. Besides, we show an exclusion principle for regular solutions, either in $\mathbb{R}^N$ or in a ball, by exploiting the uniqueness of trajectories produced by the flow. In particular, for the standard …
In the whole space $\mathbb R^d$, linear estimates for heat semi-group in Besov spaces are well established, which are estimates of $L^p$-$L^q$ type, maximal regularity, e.t.c. This paper is concerned with such estimates for semi-group generated by the Dirichlet Laplacian of fractional order in terms of the Besov spaces on an arbitrary open set of $\mathbb R^d$.
We study a class of fractional elliptic problems of the form $\Ds u= f(u)$ in the half space $\R^N_+:=\{x \in \R^N\::\: x_1>0\}$ with the complementary Dirichlet condition $u \equiv 0$ in $\R^N \setminus \R^N_+$. Under mild assumptions on the nonlinearity $f$, we show that bounded positive solutions are increasing in $x_1$. For the special case $f(u)=u^q$, we deduce nonexistence of positive bounded solutions in the case where $q \ge 1$ and $q<\frac{N-1+2s}{N-1-2s}$ if $N \ge 1+2s$. We do not require integrability assumptions on the solutions we study.
In this paper, we prove the existence of a weak solution for the Dirichlet boundary value problem related to the $p(x)-$Laplacian $$ -\mbox{div}(|\nabla u|^{p(x)-2}\nabla u)+u\in -[\underline{g}(x,u),\overline{g}(x,u)], $$ by using the degree theory after turning the problem into a Hammerstein equation. The right hand side $g$ is a possibly discontinuous function in the second variable satisfying some non-standard growth conditions..
In this paper, we show the existence of a sequence of eigenvalues for a Dirichlet problem involving two mixed fractional operators with different orders. We provide lower and upper bounds for the sum of the eigenvalues. Applications of mixed fractional operators with different orders include medicine, plasma physics, and population dynamics.
We study the bilinear estimates in the Sobolev spaces with the Dirichlet and the Neumann boundary condition. The optimal regularity is revealed to get such estimates in the half space case, which is related to not only smoothness of functions and but also boundary behavior. The crucial point for the proof is how to handle boundary values of functions and their derivatives.
We obtain a criterion for the existence of solutions of the problem $$ Δ_p u = 0 \quad \mbox{in } M \setminus \partial M, \quad \left. u \right|_{ \partial M } = h, $$ with the bounded Dirichlet integral, where $M$ is an oriented complete Riemannian manifold with boundary and $h \in W_{p, loc}^1 (M)$, $p > 1$.
In this article, we study the asymptotics of Dirichlet eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the fractional Laplacian $(-Δ)^s$ in bounded open Lipschitz sets in the small order limit $s \to 0^+$. While it is easy to see that all eigenvalues converge to $1$ as $s \to 0^+$, we show that the first order correction in these asymptotics is given by the eigenvalues of the logarithmic Laplacian operator, i.e., the singular integral operator with symbol $2\log|ξ|$. By this we generalize a result of Chen and the third author which was restricted to the principal eigenvalue. Moreover, we show that $L^2$-nor…
In this paper we study the nonlinear elliptic problem involving p(x)-Laplacian with nonsmooth potential, where the weighted function may change sign. By using critical point theory for locally Lipschitz functionals due to Chang, we obtain conditions which ensure the existence of a solution for our problem.
In this paper we firstly study the limit of minimizers of the fractional $W^{s,p}$-norms as $p\rightarrow+\infty$ in De Giorgi sense. In particular, we analyzed the $Γ$-convergence of non-homogeneous Dirichlet boundary problem for fractional $p$-Laplacian in this approximation process, and proved that as $p\rightarrow+\infty$ the minimizers of fractional $p$-Laplacian with Dirichlet boundary $Γ$-converges to a minimizer of Hölder $\infty$-Laplacian under the same Dirichlet boundary condition. On the other hand, we first investigate the asymptotic behaviour of non-homogeneous fractional $p$-fun…
We deal with the higher-order fractional Laplacians by two methods: the integral method and the system method. The former depends on the integral equation equivalent to the differential equation. The latter works directly on the differential equations. We first derive nonexistence of positive solutions, often known as the Liouville type theorem, for the integral and differential equations. Then through an delicate iteration, we show symmetry for positive solutions.
Let $Ω$ be a bounded annular $C^{1,1}$ domain in $\mathbb{R}^2$ which is left invariant under the action of the dihedral group $D_n$ of isometries of $\mathbb{R}^2$ .We show that the nodal line of a second Dirichlet eigenfunction must intersect the boundary of $Ω$, under suitable conditions on $\frac{\partial}{\partial θ}$ .
