We give a new region of existence of solutions to the superhomogeneous Dirichlet problem $$ \quad \begin{array}{l} -Δ_{p} u= v^δ\quad v>0\quad {in}\quad B,\cr -Δ_{q} v = u^μ\quad u>0\quad {in}\quad B, \cr u=v=0 \quad {on}\quad \partial B, \end{array}\leqno{(S_R)} $$ where $B$ is the ball of radius $R>0$ centered at the origin in $\RR^N.$ Here $δ, μ>0$ and $ Δ_{m} u={\rm div}(|\nabla u|^{m-2}\nabla u) $ is the $m-$Laplacian operator for $m>1$.
In this note we present the Pohozaev identity for the fractional Laplacian. As a consequence of this identity, we prove the nonexistence of nontrivial bounded solutions to semilinear problems with supercritical nonlinearities in star-shaped domains.
The Cauchy problem in $\mathbb{R}^d,$ $d\geq 1,$ for a non-local in time p-Laplacian equations is considered. The nonexistence of nontrivial global weak solutions by using the test function method is obtained.
In this paper, we are interested to analyze a nonlocal nonlinear parabolic equation with fractional Laplacian. We show that there are no nontrivial global weak solutions using the test function method.
In this paper a Pohozaev type inequality is stated for variable exponent Sobolev spaces in order to prove non existence of nontrivial weak solutions for a Dirichlet problem with non-standard growth. The obtained results generalize a previous work of M. Ôtani.
We study the existence of positive radially symmetric solution for the singular $p$-Laplacian Dirichlet problem, $-\bigtriangleup_p u =λ|u|^{p-2} u-γu^{-α}$ where $λ>0,γ>0$ and, $0<α<1$, are parameters and $Ω$, the domain of the equation, is a ball in $\mathbb{R}^N$. By using some variational methods we show that, if $λ$ is contained in some interval, then the problem has a radially symmetric positive solution on the ball. Moreover, we obtain a nonexistence result, whenever $λ\leq 0, γ<0$ and $Ω$ is a bounded domain, with smooth boundary.
In this paper, we establish the results on the existence, nonexistence and multiplicity of positive solutions to singular boundary value problems involving $φ$-Laplacian. Our approach is based on the fixed point index theory. The interesting point is that a result for the existence of three positive solutions is given.
In this paper we prove the Pohozaev identity for the weighted anisotropic $p$-Laplace operator. As an application of our identity, we deduce the nonexistence of nontrivial solutions of the Dirichlet problem for the weighted anisotropic $p$-Laplacian in star-shaped domains of $\mathbb{R}^n$. We also provide an upper bound estimate for the first Dirichet eigenvalue of the anisotropic $p$-Laplacian on bounded domains of $\mathbb{R}^n$, some sharp estimates for the torsion function of compact manifolds with boundary and a nonexistence result for the solutions of the Laplace equation on closed Riem…
We consider a nonlinear Dirichlet problem driven by the $(p,q)$-Laplacian and with a reaction which is parametric and exhibits the combined effects of a singular term and of a superdiffusive one. We prove an existence and nonexistence result for positive solutions depending on the value of the parameter $λ\in \overset{\circ}{\mathbb{R}}_+=(0,+\infty)$.
In this paper we study existence and nonexistence of nonnegative distributional solutions for a class of semilinear fractional elliptic equations involving the Hardy potential.
In this paper, we are interested in studying the existence or non-existence of solutions for a class of elliptic problems involving the $N$-Laplacian operator in the whole space. The nonlinearity considered involves critical Trudinger-Moser growth. Our approach is non-variational, and in this way, we can address a wide range of problems not yet contained in the literature. Even $W^{1,N}(\mathbb{R}^N)\hookrightarrow L^\infty(\mathbb{R}^N)$ failing, we establish $\|u_λ\|_{L^\infty(\mathbb{R}^N)} \leq C \|u\|_{W^{1,N}(\mathbb{R}^N)}^Θ$ (for some $Θ>0$), when $u$ is a solution. To conclude, we exp…
We prove some existence and nonexistence results for a class of critical $(p,q)$-Laplacian problems in a bounded domain. Our results extend and complement those in the literature for model cases.
We reinvestigate nonexistence and existence of global positive solutions to heat equation with a potential term on Riemannian manifolds. Especially, we give a very natural sharp condition only in terms of the volume of geodesic ball to obtain nonexistence results.
We consider the exterior Dirichlet problem for Monge-Ampère equation with prescribed asymptotic behavior. Based on earlier work by Caffarelli and the first named author, we complete the characterization of the existence and nonexistence of solutions in terms of their asymptotic behaviors.
We establish some existence results of polyharmonic boundary value problems with supercritical growth. Our approach is based on truncation argument as well as $L^{\infty}$-bounds. Also, by virtue of Pucci-serrin's variational identity \cite{PS}, we provide some nonexistence results.
In this paper, we study the existence and the nonexistence of solutions for a new class of $p(x)-$curl systems arising in electromagnetism. This work generalizes some results obtained in the $p-$curl case. There seems to be no results on the nonexistence of solutions for curl systems with variable exponent.
Classification theory on the existence and non-existence of local in time solutions for initial value problems of nonlinear heat equations are investigated. Without assuming a concrete growth rate on a nonlinear term, we reveal the threshold integrability of initial data which classify existence and nonexistence of solutions via a quasi-scaling and its invariant integral. Typical nonlinear terms, for instance polynomial type, exponential type and its sum, product and composition, can be treated as applications.
In this work, we prove the existence of least energy nodal solution for a class of elliptic problem in both cases, bounded and unbounded domain, when the nonlinearity has exponential critical growth in $\mathbb{R}^2$. Moreover, we also prove a nonexistence result of least energy nodal solution for the autonomous case in whole $\mathbb{R}^{2}$.
In this article, we investigate the existence, uniqueness, nonexistence, and regularity of weak solutions to the nonlinear fractional elliptic problem of type $(P)$ (see below) involving singular nonlinearity and singular weights in smooth bounded domain. We prove the existence of weak solution in $W_{loc}^{s,p}(Ω)$ via approximation method. Establishing a new comparison principle of independent interest, we prove the uniqueness of weak solution for $0 \leq δ< 1+s- \frac{1}{p}$ and furthermore the nonexistence of weak solution for $δ\geq sp.$ Moreover, by virtue of barrier arguments we study t…
In the present paper we deal with a quasilinear problem involving a singular term and a parametric superlinear perturbation. We are interested in the existence, nonexistence and multiplicity of positive solutions as the parameter $λ>0$ varies. In our first result, the superlinear perturbation has an arbitrary growth and we obtain the existence of a solution for the problem by using the sub-supersolution method. For the second result, the superlinear perturbation has subcritical growth and we employ the Mountain Pass Theorem to show the existence of a second solution.
In this paper, we consider the existence (and nonexistence) of solutions to \[ -\mathcal{M}_{λ,Λ}^\pm (u'') + V(x) u = f(u) \quad {\rm in} \ \mathbf{R} \] where $\mathcal{M}_{λ,Λ}^+$ and $\mathcal{M}_{λ,Λ}^-$ denote the Pucci operators with $0< λ\leq Λ< \infty$, $V(x)$ is a bounded function, $f(s)$ is a continuous function and its typical example is a power-type nonlinearity $f(s) =|s|^{p-1}s$ $(p>1)$. In particular, we are interested in positive solutions which decay at infinity, and the existence (and nonexistence) of such solutions is proved.
We study existence, nonexistence, and uniqueness of positive radial solutions for a class of nonlinear systems driven by Pucci extremal operators under a Lane-Emden coupling configuration. Our results are based on the analysis of the associated quadratic dynamical system and energy methods. For both regular and exterior domain radial solutions we obtain new regions of existence and nonexistence. Besides, we show an exclusion principle for regular solutions, either in $\mathbb{R}^N$ or in a ball, by exploiting the uniqueness of trajectories produced by the flow. In particular, for the standard …
We consider the nonlocal analogue of the Fisher-KPP equation. We do not assume that the Borel-measure is absolutely continuous with respect to the Lebesgue measure. We gives a sufficient condition for existence of traveling waves, and a necessary condition for existence of periodic traveling waves.
Our interest itself of this paper is strongly inspired from an open problem in the paper [1] published by D'Abbicco. In this article, we would like to study the Cauchy problem for a weakly coupled system of semi-linear structurally damped wave equations. Main goal is to find the threshold, which classifies the global (in time) existence of small data solutions or the nonexistence of global solutions under the growth condition of the nonlinearities.
In this paper, by using the theory of compensated compactness coupled with the kinetic formulation by Lions, Perthame, Souganidis and Tadmor \cite{LPT,LPS}, we prove the existence and nonexistence of global generalized (nonnegative) solutions of the nonlinearly degenerate wave equations $v_{tt} =c (|v|^{s-1} v)_{xx}$ with the nonnegative initial data $v_{0}(x)$ and $ s > 1$. This result is an extension of the results in the second author's paper \cite{Su}, where the existence and the nonexistence of the unique global classical solution were studied with a threshold on $\int_{-\infty}^{\infty} …
We consider the monomial weight $x^{A}=\vert x_{1}\vert^{a_{1}}\ldots\vert x_{N}\vert^{a_{N}}$, where $a_{i}$ is a nonnegative real number for each $i\in\{1,\ldots,N\}$, and we establish the existence and nonexistence of isoperimetric inequalities with different monomial weights. We study positive minimizers of $\int_{\partialΩ}x^{A}\mathcal{H}^{N-1}(x)$ among all smooth bounded sets $Ω$ in $\mathbb{R}^{N}$ with fixed Lebesgue measure with monomial weight $\int_Ωx^{B}dx$.
We study the existence and nonexistence of positive solutions in the whole Euclidean space of coercive quasi-linear elliptic equations such as \[ Δ_p u = f(u)\pm g(\left|\nabla u\right|) \] where $f\in C([0,\infty))$ and $g\in C^{0,1}([0,\infty)) $ are strictly increasing with $ f(0)=g(0)=0$. Among other things we obtain generalized integral conditions of Keller-Osserman type. In the particular case of plus sign on the right-hand side we obtain that different conditions are needed when $p\geq 2$ or $p\leq 2$, due to the degeneracy of the operator.
In this paper we deal with the cubic Schrödinger system $ -Δu_i = \sum_{j=1}^n β_{ij}u_j^2 u_i$, $u_1,\dots,u_n \geq 0$ in $\mathbb{R}^N (N\leq 3)$, where $β=(β_{i,j})_{ij}$ is a symmetric matrix with real coefficients and $β_{ii}\geq 0$ for every $i=1,\ldots,n$. We analyse the existence and nonexistence of nontrivial solutions in connection with the properties of the matrix $β$, and provide a complete characterization in dimensions $N=1,2$. Extensions to more general power-type nonlinearities are given.
Let $p_i\geq 2$ and consider the following anisotropic $p$-Laplace equation $$ -\sum_{i=1}^{N}\frac{\partial}{\partial x_i}\Big(\Big|\frac{\partial u}{\partial x_i}\Big|^{p_i-2}\frac{\partial u}{\partial x_i}\Big)=g(x)f(u),\,\,u>0\text{ in }Ω. $$ Under suitable hypothesis on the weight function $g$ we present an existence result for $f(u)=e^\frac{1}{u}$ in a bounded smooth domain $Ω$ and nonexistence results for $f(u)=-e^\frac{1}{u}$ or $-(u^{-δ}+u^{-γ}),$ $δ,γ>0$ with $Ω=\mathbb{R}^N$ respectively.
In this paper we consider traveling waves for the Gross-Pitaevskii equation which are T-periodic in each variable. We prove that if T is large enough, there exists a solution as a global minimizer of the corresponding action functional. In the subsonic case, we can use variational methods to prove the existence of a mountain-pass solution. Moreover, we show that for small T the problem admits only constant solutions.
In this paper, we obtain necessary conditions and sufficient conditions on the initial data for the local-in-time solvability of the Cauchy problem \[ \partial_t u +(-Δ)^\fracθ{2} u=|x|^{-γ} u^p ,\quad x\in{\bf R}^N, t>0, \qquad u(0)=μ\quad \mbox{in} \quad {\bf R}^N, \] where $N\ge 1$, $0<θ\le2$, $p>1$, $γ>0$ and $μ$ is a nonnegative Radon measure on ${\bf R}^N$. Using these conditions, we attempt to identify the optimal strength of the singularity of $μ$ for the existence of solutions to this problem.
We study the Choquard equation with a local perturbation \begin{equation*} -Δu=λu+(I_α\ast|u|^p)|u|^{p-2}u+μ|u|^{q-2}u,\ x\in \mathbb{R}^{N} \end{equation*} having prescribed mass \begin{equation*} \int_{\mathbb{R}^N}|u|^2dx=a^2. \end{equation*} For a $L^2$-critical or $L^2$-supercritical perturbation $μ|u|^{q-2}u$, we prove nonexistence, existence and symmetry of normalized ground states, by using the mountain pass lemma, the Pohožaev constraint method, the Schwartz symmetrization rearrangements and some theories of polarizations. In particular, our results cover the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev …
Let $G=(V,E)$ be a finite or locally finite connected weighted graph, $Δ$ be the usual graph Laplacian. Using heat kernel estimate, we prove the existence and nonexistence of global solutions for the following semilinear heat equation on $G$ \begin{equation*} \left\{ \begin{array}{lc} u_t=Δu + u^{1+α} &\, \text{in $(0,+\infty)\times V$,}\\ u(0,x)=a(x) &\, \text{in $V$.} \end{array} \right. \end{equation*} We conclude that, for a graph satisfying curvature dimension condition $CDE'(n,0)$ and $V(x,r)\simeq r^m$, if $0<mα<2$, then the non-negative solution $u$ is not global, and if $mα>2$, then t…
In this paper, we establish the existence of ground state solutions for Choquard equations \begin{equation}\label{eq 1} - Δu + u = q\,(I_α\ast |u|^p) |u|^{q - 2} u+p\,(I_α\ast |u|^q) |u|^{p - 2} u\quad {\rm in }\quad \mathbb{R}^N, \end{equation} where $N \ge 3$, $α\in (0, N)$, $I_α: \mathbb{R}^N \to \mathbb{R}$ is the Riesz potential, $p,\,q >0$ satisfying that \begin{equation}\label{eq 2} \frac{2(N+α)}{N}<p+q< \frac{2(N+α)}{N-2}. \end{equation} Moreover, we prove a Pohožaev type identity for this Choquard equation, which implies the non-existence result for the problem when $(p,q)$ does not s…
In this paper, we prove the existence of unbounded sequence of eigenvalues for the fractional $p-$Laplacian with weight in $\mathbb{R}^N.$ We also show a nonexistence result when the weighthas positive integral. In addition, we show some qualitative properties of the first eigenfunction including a sharp decay estimate. Finally, we extend the decay result to the positive solutions of a Schrödinger type equation.
In this paper, the following critical biharmonic elliptic problem \begin{eqnarray*} \begin{cases} Δ^2u= λu+μu\ln u^2+|u|^{2^{**}-2}u, &x\inΩ,\\ u=\dfrac{\partial u}{\partial ν}=0, &x\in\partialΩ\end{cases} \end{eqnarray*} is considered, where $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^{N}$ is a bounded smooth domain with $N\geq5$. Some interesting phenomenon occurs due to the uncertainty of the sign of the logarithmic term. It is shown, mainly by using Mountain Pass Lemma, that the problem admits at lest one nontrivial weak solution under some appropriate assumptions of $λ$ and $μ$. Moreover, a nonexistence result …
In this paper, we give a clear cut relation between the the volume growth $V(r)$ and the existence of nonnegative solutions to parabolic semilinear problem \begin{align}\tag{*}\label{*} \left\{ \begin{array}{ll} Δu - \partial_t u + u^p = 0, \\ {u(x,0)= {u_0(x)}}, \end{array} \right. \end{align} on a large class of Riemannian manifolds. We prove that for parameter $p>1$, if \begin{align*} \int^{+\infty} \frac{t}{V(t)^{p-1}} dt = \infty \end{align*} then (\ref{*}) has no nonnegative solution. If \begin{align*} \int^{+\infty} \frac{t}{V(t)^{p-1}} dt < \infty \end{align*} then (\ref{*}) has positi…
In this paper, we give a sufficient condition for the existence, nonexistence and uniqueness of coexistence of positive solutions to a rather general type of elliptic competition system.
In this paper we study the following eigenvalue boundary value problem for Monge-Ampère equations: {equation} \{{array}{l} \det(D^2u)=λ^N f(-u)\,\, \text{in}\,\, Ω, u=0,\,\text{on}\,\, \partial Ω. {array}. {equation} We establish the unilateral global bifurcation results for the problem with $f(u)=u^N+g(u)$ and $Ω$ being the unit ball of $\mathbb{R}^N$. More precisely, under some natural hypotheses on the perturbation function $g:\mathbb{R}\rightarrow\mathbb{R}$, we show that $(λ_1,0)$ is a bifurcation point of the problem and there are two distinct unbounded continua of one-sign solutions, wh…
We establish necessary conditions for the existence of solutions to a class of semilinear hyperbolic problems on complete noncompact Riemannian manifolds, extending some nonexistence results for the wave operator with power nonlinearity on the whole Euclidean space. A general weight function depending on spacetime is allowed in front of the power nonlinearity.
We consider positive solution to the weighted elliptic problem \begin{equation*} \left \{ \begin{array}{ll} -{\rm div} (|x|^θ\nabla u)=|x|^\ell u^p \;\;\; \mbox{in $\mathbb{R}^N \backslash {\overline B}$},\\ u=0 \;\;\; \mbox{on $\partial B$}, \end{array} \right. \end{equation*} where $B$ is the standard unit ball of $\mathbb{R}^N$. We give a complete answer for the existence question when $N':=N+θ>2$. In particular, for $N' > 2$ and $τ:=\ell-θ>-2$, it is shown that the problem admits a unique positive radial solution for $p>p_s:=\frac{N'+2+2τ}{N'-2}$, while for any $ 0<p \leq p_s$, the only no…
In this expository paper we survey some recent results on Dirichlet problems of the form $Lu=f(x,u)$ in $Ω$, $u\equiv0$ in $\mathbb R^n\backslashΩ$. We first discuss in detail the boundary regularity of solutions, stating the main known results of Grubb and of the author and Serra. We also give a simplified proof of one of such results, focusing on the main ideas and on the blow-up techniques that we developed in \cite{RS-K,RS-stable}. After this, we present the Pohozaev identities established in \cite{RS-Poh,RSV,Grubb-Poh} and give a sketch of their proofs, which use strongly the fine boundar…
Let $Ω$ be a smooth bounded domain in $\mathbb{R}^{N}$, with $N\geq 5$, $a>0$, $α\geq 0$ and $2^*=\frac{2N}{N-2}$. We show that the the exponent $q=\frac{2(N-1)}{N-2}$ plays a critical role regarding the existence of least energy (or ground state) solutions of the Neumann problem $$ \left\{\begin{array}{ll} -Δu+au=u^{2^*-1}-αu^{q-1}&\mbox{in}\ Ω,\\ u>0&\mbox{in}\ Ω,\\ \frac{\partial u}{\partialν}=0&\mbox{on}\ \partialΩ. \end{array}\right. $$ Namely, we prove that when $q=\frac{2(N-1)}{N-2}$ there exists an $α_{0}>0$ such that the problem has a least energy solution if $α<α_{0}$ and has no leas…
