A class of sufficient conditions of local regularity for suitable weak solutions to the nonstationary three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations are discussed. The corresponding results are formulated in terms of functionals which are invariant with respect to the Navier-Stokes equations scaling. The famous Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg condition is contained in that class as a particular case.
We prove some estimates for suitable weak solutions to the non-stationary three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations under assumptions that certain invariant functionals of the velocity are bounded.
We establish the existence and uniqueness of local strong solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations with arbitrary initial data and external forces in the homogeneous Besov-Morrey space. The local solutions can be extended globally in time provided the initial data and external forces are small. We adapt the method introduced in \cite{ks6}, where the Besov space is considered, to the setting of the homogeneous Besov-Morrey space.
Uniqueness of Leray solutions of the 3D Navier-Stokes equations is a challenging open problem. In this article we will study this problem for the 3D stationary Navier-Stokes equations and under some additional hypotheses, stated in terms of Lebesgue and Morrey spaces, we will show that the trivial solution U = 0 is the unique solution. This type of results are known as Liouville theorems.
Barker recently proved new weak-strong uniqueness results for the Navier-Stokes equations based on a criterion involving Besov spaces and a proof through interpolation between Besov-H{ö}lder spaces and L 2. We improve slightly his results by considering Besov-Morrey spaces and interpolation between Besov-Morrey spaces and L 2 uloc. Let u 0 a divergence-free vector field on R 3. We shall consider weak solutions to the Cauchy initial value problem for the Navier-Stokes equations which satisfy energy estimates. The differential Navier-Stokes equations read as $\partial$ t u + u. $\nabla$ u = $Δ$ …
The Liouville problem for the stationary Navier-Stokes equations on the whole space is a challenging open problem who has know several recent contributions. We prove here some Liouville type theorems for these equations provided the velocity field belongs to some Lorentz spaces and then in the more general setting of Morrey spaces. Our theorems correspond to a improvement of some recent result on this problem and contain some well-known results as a particular case.
We rule out the existence of Leray's backward self-similar solutions to the Navier--Stokes equations with profiles in $L^{12/5}(\R^3)$ or in the Marcinkiewicz space $L^{q,\infty}(\R^3)$ for $q\in(12/5, 6)$. This follows from a more general result formulated in terms of Morrey spaces and the first order Riesz's potential.
In this work we consider the Keller-Segel system coupled with Navier-Stokes equations in $\mathbb{R}^{N}$ for $N\geq2$. We prove the global well-posedness with small initial data in Besov-Morrey spaces. Our initial data class extends previous ones found in the literature such as that obtained by Kozono-Miura-Sugiyama (J. Funct. Anal. 2016). It allows to consider initial cell density and fluid velocity concentrated on smooth curves or at points depending on the spatial dimension. Self-similar solutions are obtained depending on the homogeneity of the initial data and considering the case of che…
This paper addresses several problems associated to local energy solutions (in the sense of Lemarié-Rieusset) to the Navier-Stokes equations with initial data which is sufficiently small at large or small scales as measured using truncated Morrey-type quantities, namely: (1) global existence for a class of data including the critical $L^2$-based Morrey space; (2) initial and eventual regularity of local energy solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations with initial data sufficiently small at small or large scales; (3) small-large uniqueness of local energy solutions for data in the critical $L^2…
In this paper, it is shown that there does not exist a non-trivial Leray's backward self-similar solution to the 3D Navier-Stokes equations with profiles in Morrey spaces $\dot{\mathcal{M}}^{q,1}(\mathbb{R}^{3})$ provided $3/2<q<6$, or in $\dot{\mathcal{M}}^{q,l}(\mathbb{R}^{3})$ provided $6\leq q<\infty$ and $2<l\leq q$. This generalizes the corresponding results obtained by Nečas-Råužička-Šverák [19, Acta.Math. 176 (1996)] in $L^{3}(\mathbb{R}^{3})$, Tsai [25, Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 143 (1998)] in $L^{p}(\mathbb{R}^{3})$ with $p\geq3$,, Chae-Wolf [3, Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 225 (2017)] …
We consider here the simplified Ericksen-Leslie system on the whole three-dimensional space. This system deals with the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations strongly coupled with a harmonic map flow which models the dynamical behavior for nematic liquid crystals. For both the stationary (time independing) case and the non-stationary (time depending) case, using the fairly general framework of a kind of local Morrey spaces, we obtain some a priori conditions on the unknowns of this coupled system to prove that they vanish identically. This results are known as Liouville-type theorems. As a bi…
This paper is concerned with the Liouville type theorems for the 3D stationary incompressible Hall-MHD equations. We establish that under some sufficient conditions in local Morrey spaces, solutions of the stationary Hall-MHD equations are identically zero. In particular, we also prove Liouville type results for the stationary incompressible MHD equations on $\mathbb{R}^3$. Our theorems extend and generalize the classical results for the stationary incompressible Navier-Stokes equations.
A Liouville type theorem is proven for the steady-state Navier-Stokes equations. It follows from the corresponding theorem on the Stokes equations with the drift. The drift is supposed to belong to a certain Morrey space.
We show that the pressure associated with a distributional solution of the Navier-Stokes equations on the whole space satisfies a local expansion defined as a distribution if and only if the solution is mild. This gives a new perspective on Lemarié-Rieusset's "equivalence theorem." Here, the Leray projection operator composed with a gradient is defined without using the Littlewood-Paley decomposition. Prior sufficient conditions for the local expansion assumed spatial decay or estimates on the gradient and imply the considered solution is mild. An important tool is an explicit description of t…
We show that the Navier-Stokes as well as a random perturbation of this equation can be derived from a stochastic variational principle where the pressure is introduced as a Lagrange multiplier. Moreover we describe how to obtain corresponding constants of the motion.
The blow up phenomenon in the first step of the classical Picard's scheme was proved in this paper. For certain initial spaces, Bourgain-Pavlović and Yoneda proved the ill-posedness of the Navier-Stokes equations by showing the norm inflation in certain solution spaces. But Chemin and Gallagher said the space $\dot{B}^{-1,\infty}_{\infty}$ seems to be optimal for some solution spaces best chosen. In this paper, we consider more general initial spaces than Bourgain-Pavlović and Yoneda did and establish ill-posedness result independent of the choice of solution space. Our result is a complement …
In this paper, we rigorously derive the compressible one-fluid Navier-Stokes equation from the scaled compressible two-fluid Navier-Stokes-Maxwell equations locally in time under the assumption that the initial data are well prepared. We justify the singular limit by proving the uniform decay of the error system, which is obtained by elaborate energy estimates.
The three-dimensional Navier-Stokes-$α$ model for fast rotating geophysical fluids is considered. The Navier-Stokes-$α$ model is a nonlinear dispersive regularization of the exact Navier-Stokes equations obtained by Lagrangian averaging and tend to the Navier-Stokes equations as $α\rightarrow 0^+$. We estimate upper bounds for the dimensions of global attractors and study the dependence of the dimensions on the parameter $α$. All the estimates are uniform in $α$, and our estimate of attractor dimensions remain finite when $α\rightarrow 0^+$.
This paper is concerned with geometric regularity criteria for the Navier-Stokes equations in $\mathbb{R}^3_{+}\times (0,T)$ with no-slip boundary condition, with the assumption that the solution satisfies the `ODE blow-up rate' Type I condition. More precisely, we prove that if the vorticity direction is uniformly continuous on subsets of $$\bigcup_{t\in(T-1,T)} \big(B(0,R)\cap\mathbb{R}^3_{+}\big)\times {\{t\}},\,\,\,\,\,\, R=O(\sqrt{T-t})$$ where the vorticity has large magnitude, then $(0,T)$ is a regular point. This result is inspired by and improves the regularity criteria given by Giga,…
We study Caccioppoli's inequalities of the non-stationary Stokes equations and Navier-Stokes equations. Our analysis is local near boundary and we prove that, in contrast to the interior case, the Caccioppoli's inequalities of the Stokes equations and the Navier-Stokes equations, in general, fail near boundary.
This paper studies two well-known models for two-phase fluid flow at constant temperature, the isothermal Navier-Stokes-Allen-Cahn and the isothermal Navier-Stokes-Cahn-Hilliard equations, both of which consist of equations for the (total) fluid density rho, the (mass-averaged)velocity u and the concentration (of one of the phases,) c. Assuming in either case that both phases are incompressible with different densities, each of the models is shown to reduce to a system of evolution equations in rho and u alone. In the case of the Navier-Stokes-Allen-Cahn model, this reduced system is the class…
An algebraic upper bound for the decay rate of solutions to the Navier-Stokes and Navier-Stokes-Coriolis equations in the critical space $\dot{H} ^{\frac{1}{2}} (\mathbb{R} ^3)$ is derived using the Fourier Splitting Method. Estimates are framed in terms of the decay character of initial data, leading to solutions with algebraic decay and showing in detail the roles played by the linear and nonlinear parts.
In this paper, we first prove the global well-posedness of a scaled anisotropic Navier-Stokes system and the hydrostatic Navier-Stokes system in a 2-D striped domain with small analytic data in the tangential variable. Then we justify the limit from the anisotropic Navier-Stokes system to the hydrostatic Navier-Stokes system with analytic data.
In this paper, we shall establish the global well-posedness, the space-time analyticity of the Navier-Stokes equations for a class of large periodic data $u_0 \in BMO^{-1}(\mathbb{R}^3)$. This improves the classical result of Koch \& Tataru \cite{koch-tataru}, for the global well-posedness with small initial data $u_0 \in BMO^{-1}(\mathbb{R}^n)$.
We study the stationary Stokes and Navier-Stokes equations with non-homogeneous Navier boundary condition in a bounded domain $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^{3}$ of class $\mathcal{C}^{1,1}$. We prove existence, uniqueness of weak and strong solutions in $\mathbf{W}^{1,p}(Ω)$ and $\mathbf{W}^{2,p}(Ω)$ for all $1<p<\infty$ considering minimal regularity on the friction coefficient $α$. Moreover, we deduce uniform estimates on the solution with respect to $α$ which enables us to analyze the behavior of the solution when $α\rightarrow \infty$.
We consider here the magneto-hydrodynamics (MHD) equations on the whole space. For the 3D case, in the setting of the weighted $L^2$ spaces we obtain a weak-strong uniqueness criterion provided that the velocity field and the magnetic field belong to a fairly general multipliers space. On the other hand, we study the local and global existence of weak suitable solutions for intermittent initial data, which is characterized through a local Morrey space. This large initial data space was also exhibit in a contemporary work [4] in the context of 3D Navier-Stokes equations. Finally, we make a disc…
In this paper we prove a global well-posedness result for tridimensional Navier-Stokes-Boussinesq system with axisymmetric initial data. This system couples Navier-Stokes equations with a transport equation governing the density.
We introduce a framework to justify hydrodynamic limits of the Vlasov-Navier-Stokes system. We specifically study high friction regimes, which take into account the fact that particles of the dispersed phase are light (resp. small) compared to the fluid part, and lead to the derivation of Transport-Navier-Stokes (resp. Inhomogeneous Navier-Stokes) systems.
In the note, a local regularity condition for axisymmetric solutions to the non-stationary 3D Navier-Stokes equations is proven. It reads that axially symmetric energy solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations have no Type I blowups.
We introduce a concept of space-time holomorphic solutions of partial differential equations and construct a meromorphic solution of Navier-Stokes equations.
Fundamental solutions to the time-periodic Stokes and Oseen linearizations of the Navier-Stokes equations in dimension $n\geq 2$ are investigated. Integrability properties and pointwise estimates are established.
Multiple spatial zero formations for Stokes and Navier-Stokes equations in three dimensions are shown to occur according to nodal sets of solenoidal Hermite polynomials. Extensions to well-posed Burnett equations with the bi-harmonic viscosity operator are also discussed.
In this paper, we justify the limit from the Navier-Stokes system in a thin domain to the hydrostatic Navier-Stokes/Prandtl system for the convex initial data with Gevrey 9/8 regualrity in $x$.
These notes are dedicated to the analysis of the one-dimensional free-congested Navier-Stokes equations. After a brief synthesis of the results obtained in [4] related to the existence and the asymptotic stability of partially congested profiles associated to the soft congestion Navier-Stokes system, we present a first local well-posedness result for the one-dimensional free-congested Navier-Stokes equations.
An enstrophy cascade is exhibited for the Navier-Stokes equations in physical scales independently of boundary conditions under physically reasonable assumptions on the flow.
In this paper, we prove existence of smooth solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations that gives a positive answer to the problem proposed by Fefferman [3].
In this paper, we study the upper bound of the time decay rate of solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations and generalized Navier-Stokes equations with damping term $|u|^{β-1}u$ ($β>1$) in $\mathbb{R}^3$.
We study 2D Navier-Stokes equations with a constraint on $L^2$ energy of the solution. We prove the existence and uniqueness of a global solution for the constrained Navier-Stokes equation on $\R^2$ and $\T$, by a fixed point argument. We also show that the solution of constrained Navier-Stokes converges to the solution of Euler equation as viscosity $ν$ vanishes.
We discuss the regularity of solutions of 2D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations forced by singular forces. The problem is motivated by the study of complex fluids modeled by the Navier-Stokes equations coupled to a nonlinear Fokker-Planck equation describing microscopic corpora embedded in the fluid. This leads naturally to bounded added stress and hence to $W^{-1,\infty}$ forcing of the Navier-Stokes equations.
We address the issue of existence of weak solutions for the non-homogeneous Navier-Stokes system with Navier friction boundary conditions allowing the presence of vacuum zones and assuming rough conditions on the data. We also study the convergence, as the viscosity goes to zero, of weak solutions for the non-homogeneous Navier-Stokes system with Navier friction boundary conditions to the strong solution of the Euler equations with variable density, provided that the initial data converge in $L^{2}$ to a smooth enough limit.
We prove in this paper a decay estimate for scaling invariant local energy solutions for some toy-models related to the incompressible Navier-Stokes system.
The global well-posedness for the incompressible Navier-Stokes-Vlasov equations in two spatial dimensions is established by a priori estimates, the characteristic method and the semigroup analysis.
We generalize here the celebrated Partial Regularity Theory of Caffarelli, Kohn and Nirenberg to the MHD equations in the framework of parabolic Morrey spaces. This type of parabolic generalization using Morrey spaces appears to be crucial when studying the role of the pressure in the regularity theory for the classical Navier-Stokes equations as well as for the MHD equations.
In the note, a new regularity condition for axisymmetric solutions to the non-stationary 3D Navier-Stokes equations is proven. It is slightly supercritical.
In this paper, we study the low Mach number limit of the full compressible Navier-Stokes equations with revised Maxwell law. By applying the uniform estimation of the error system, we prove that the solutions of the full compressible Navier-Stokes equations with time relaxation converge to that of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations as the Mach number tends to zero. Moreover, the convergence rates are also obtained.
