We prove that for $d \geq 2$, an algebraic $d$-Calabi-Yau triangulated category endowed with a $d$-cluster tilting subcategory is the stable category of a DG category which is perfectly $(d+1)$-Calabi-Yau and carries a non degenerate $t$-structure whose heart has enough projectives.
Let $Λ$ be an artin algebra. In this paper, the notion of $n\mathbb{Z}$-Gorenstein cluster tilting subcategories will be introduced. It is shown that every $n\mathbb{Z}$-cluster tilting subcategory of ${\rm{mod}}{\mbox{-}}Λ$ is $n\mathbb{Z}$-Gorenstein if and only if $Λ$ is an Iwanaga-Gorenstein algebra. Moreover, it will be shown that an $n\mathbb{Z}$-Gorenstein cluster tilting subcategory of ${\rm{mod}}{\mbox{-}}Λ$ is an $n\mathbb{Z}$-cluster tilting subcategory of the exact category ${\rm{Gprj}}{\mbox{-}}Λ$, the subcategory of all Gorenstein projective objects of ${\rm{mod}}{\mbox{-}}Λ$. So…
Let B be an extriangulated category with enough projectives and enough injectives. Let C be a fully rigid subcategory of B which admits a twin cotorsion pair ((C,K),(K,D)). The quotient category B/K is abelian, we assume that it is hereditary and has finite length. In this article, we study the relation between support tilting subcategories of B/K and maximal relative rigid subcategories of B. More precisely, we show that the image of any cluster tilting subcategory of B is support tilting in B/K and any support tilting subcategory in B/K can be lifted to a unique relative maximal rigid subcat…
As a generalization of acyclic 2-Calabi-Yau categories, we consider 2-Calabi-Yau categories with a directed cluster-tilting subcategory; we study their cluster-tilting subcategories and the cluster combinatorics that they encode. We show that such categories have a cluster structure. Triangulated 2-Calabi-Yau categories with a directed cluster-tilting subcategory are closely related to representations of certain semi-hereditary categories, more specifically to representations of thread quivers. Thread quivers are a tool to classify and study certain semi-hereditary categories using both quiver…
For an exact category $\mathcal{E}$ with enough projectives and with a $d\mathbb{Z}$-cluster tilting subcategory, we show that the singularity category of $\mathcal{E}$ admits a $d\mathbb{Z}$-cluster tilting subcategory. To do this we introduce cluster tilting subcategories of left triangulated categories, and we show that there is a correspondence between cluster tilting subcategories of $\mathcal{E}$ and $\underline{\mathcal{E}}$. We also deduce that the Gorenstein projectives of $\mathcal{E}$ admit a $d\mathbb{Z}$-cluster tilting subcategory under some assumptions. Finally, we compute the $…
We give a characterization of $n$-cluster tilting subcategories of representation-directed algebras based on the $n$-Auslander-Reiten translations. As an application we classify acyclic Nakayama algebras with homogeneous relations which admit an $n$-cluster tilting subcategory. Finally, we classify Nakayama algebras of global dimension $d<\infty$ which admit a $d$-cluster tilting subcategory.
We introduce the concept of a pseudo-cluster tilting subcategory from the viewpoint of the fact that the quotient of an exact category by a cluster tilting subcategory is an abelian category. We prove that the quotients in the case of pseudo-cluster tilting are always semi-abelian. In addition, it is abelian if and only if some self-orthogonal conditions are satisfied. We revisit the abelian quotient category of conflations by splitting ones, and get that there exists a unique exact substructure such that it is a cluster quotient.
For a triangulated category T, if C is a cluster-tilting subcategory of T, then the quotient category T\C is an abelian category. Under certain conditions, the converse also holds. This is an very important result of cluster-tilting theory, due to Koenig-Zhu and Beligiannis. Now let B be a suitable extriangulated category, which is a simultaneous generalization of triangulated categories and exact categories. We introduce the notion of pre-cluster tilting subcategory C of B, which is a generalization of cluster tilting subcategory. We show that C is cluster tilting if and only if B/C is abelia…
$n\mathbb{Z}$-cluster tilting subcategories are an ideal setting for higher dimensional Auslander-Reiten theory. We give a complete classification of $n\mathbb{Z}$-cluster tilting subcategories of module categories of Nakayama algebras. In particular, we show that there are three kinds of Nakayama algebras that admit $n\mathbb{Z}$-cluster tilting subcategories: finite global dimension, selfinjective and non-Iwanaga-Gorenstein. Only the selfinjective ones can admit more than one $n\mathbb{Z}$-cluster tilting subcategory. It has been shown by the second author, that each such $n\mathbb{Z}$-clust…
We put cluster tilting in ageneral framework by showing that any quotient of a triangulated category modulo a tilting subcategory (that is, a maximal one-orthogonal subcategory) carries an abelian structure. These abelian quotients turn out to be module categories of Goreisten algebras of dimension at most one.
A subcategory of an abelian category is wide if it is closed under sums, summands, kernels, cokernels, and extensions. Wide subcategories provide a significant interface between representation theory and combinatorics. If $Φ$ is a finite dimensional algebra, then each functorially finite wide subcategory of $\operatorname{mod}( Φ)$ is of the form $ϕ_{ * }\big( \operatorname{mod}( Γ) \big)$ in an essentially unique way, where $Γ$ is a finite dimensional algebra and $Φ\stackrel{ ϕ}{ \longrightarrow } Γ$ is an algebra epimorphism satisfying $\operatorname{Tor}^{ Φ}_1( Γ,Γ) = 0$. Let ${\mathcal F}…
We show that a tilting module over the endomorphism algebra of a cluster-tilting object in a 2-Calabi-Yau triangulated category lifts to a cluster-tilting object in this 2-Calabi-Yau triangulated category. This generalizes a recent work of D. Smith for cluster categories.
Let $\mathcal A$ be a Hom-finite abelian category with enough projectives. In this note, we show that any covariantly finite $τ$-rigid subcategory is contained in a support $τ$-tilting subcategory. We also show that support $τ$-tilting subcategories are in bijection with certain finitely generated torsion classes. Some applications of our main results are also given.
From the viewpoint of higher homological algebra, we introduce pure semisimple $n$-abelian category, which is analogs of pure semisimple abelian category. Let $Λ$ be an Artin algebra and $\mathcal{M}$ be an $n$-cluster tilting subcategory of $Mod$-$Λ$. We show that $\mathcal{M}$ is pure semisimple if and only if each module in $\mathcal{M}$ is a direct sum of finitely generated modules. Let $\mathfrak{m}$ be an $n$-cluster tilting subcategory of $mod$-$Λ$. We show that $Add(\mathfrak{m})$ is an $n$-cluster tilting subcategory of $Mod$-$Λ$ if and only if $\mathfrak{m}$ has an additive generator…
Let $Λ$ be an artin algebra and $\mathcal{M}$ be an n-cluster tilting subcategory of mod$Λ$. We show that $\mathcal{M}$ has an additive generator if and only if the n-almost split sequences form a basis for the relations for the Grothendieck group of $\mathcal{M}$ if and only if every effaceable functor $\mathcal{M}\rightarrow Ab$ has finite length. As a consequence we show that if mod$Λ$ has n-cluster tilting subcategory of finite type then the n-almost split sequences form a basis for the relations for the Grothendieck group of $Λ$.
We present a new way to construct $n$-cluster tilting subcategories of abelian categories. Our method takes as input a direct system of abelian categories $\mathcal{A}_i$ with certain subcategories and, under reasonable conditions, outputs an $n$-cluster tilting subcategory of an admissible target $\mathcal{A}$ of the direct system. We apply this general method to a direct system of module categories $\text{mod}Λ_i$ of representation-directed algebras $Λ_i$ and obtain an $n$-cluster tilting subcategory $\mathcal{M}$ of a module category $\text{mod}\mathcal{C}$ of a locally bounded Krull-Schmid…
Using the Morita-type embedding, we show that any exact category with enough projectives has a realization as a (pre)resolving subcategory of a module category. When the exact category has enough injectives, the image of the embedding can be described in terms of Wakamatsu tilting (=semi-dualizing) subcategories. If moreover the exact category has higher kernels, then its image coincides with the category naturally associated with a cotilting subcategory up to summands. We apply these results to the representation theory of artin algebras. In particular, we show that the ideal quotient of a mo…
Given $n\leq d<\infty$, we investigate the existence of algebras of global dimension $d$ which admit an $n$-cluster tilting subcategory. We construct many such examples using representation-directed algebras. First, given two representation-directed algebras $A$ and $B$, a projective $A$-module $P$ and an injective $B$-module $I$ satisfying certain conditions, we show how we can construct a new representation-directed algebra $Λ$ in such a way that the representation theory of $Λ$ is completely described by the representation theories of $A$ and $B$. Next we introduce $n$-fractured subcategori…
Let T be a locally finite triangulated category with an autoequivalence F such that the orbit category T/F is triangulated. We show that if X is an m-cluster tilting subcategory, then the image of X in T/F is an m-cluster tilting subcategory if and only if X is F-perodic. We show that for path-algebras of Dynking quivers δone may study the periodic properties of n-cluster tilting objects in the n-cluster category Cn(kδ) to obtain information on periodicity of the preimage as n-cluster tilting subcategories of Db(kδ). Finally we classify the periodic properties of all 2-cluster tilting objects …
Let $\mathcal{C}$ be a triangulated category with shift functor $[1]$ and $\mathcal{R}$ a rigid subcategory of $\mathcal{C}$. We introduce the notions of two-term $\mathcal{R}[1]$-rigid subcategories, two-term (weak) $\mathcal{R}[1]$-cluster tilting subcategories and two-term maximal $\mathcal{R}[1]$-rigid subcategories, and discuss relationship between them. Our main result shows that there exists a bijection between the set of two-term $\mathcal{R}[1]$-rigid subcategories of $\mathcal{C}$ and the set of $τ$-rigid subcategories of $\mod\mathcal{R}$, which induces a one-to-one correspondence b…
We describe what it means for an algebra to be internally d-Calabi-Yau with respect to an idempotent. This definition abstracts properties of endomorphism algebras of (d-1)-cluster-tilting objects in certain stably (d-1)-Calabi-Yau Frobenius categories, as observed by Keller-Reiten. We show that an internally d-Calabi-Yau algebra satisfying mild additional assumptions can be realised as the endomorphism algebra of a (d-1)-cluster-tilting object in a Frobenius category. Moreover, if the algebra satisfies a stronger 'bimodule' internally d-Calabi-Yau condition, this Frobenius category is stably …
We define tilting subcategories in arbitrary exact categories to archieve the following. Firstly: Unify existing definitions of tilting subcategories to arbitrary exact categories. Discuss standard results for tilting subcategories: Auslander correspondence, Bazzoni description of the perpendicular category. Secondly: We treat the question of induced derived equivalences separately - given a tilting subcategory T, we ask if a functor on the perpendicular category induces a derived equivalence to a (certain) functor category over T. If this is the case, we call the tilting subcategory ideq tilt…
We study the maximal rigid subcategories in $2-$CY triangulated categories and their endomorphism algebras. Cluster tilting subcategories are obviously maximal rigid; we prove that the converse is true if the $2-$CY triangulated categories admit a cluster tilting subcategory. As a generalization of a result of [KR], we prove that any maximal rigid subcategory is Gorenstein with Gorenstein dimension at most 1. Similar as cluster tilting subcategory, one can mutate maximal rigid subcategories at any indecomposable object. If two maximal rigid objects are reachable via mutations, then their endom…
Let D be a triangulated category with a cluster tilting subcategory U. The quotient category D/U is abelian; suppose that it has finite global dimension. We show that projection from D to D/U sends cluster tilting subcategories of D to support tilting subcategories of D/U, and that, in turn, support tilting subcategories of D/U can be lifted uniquely to maximal 1-orthogonal subcategories of D.
Our first aim is to provide an analog of the Gabriel-Quillen embedding theorem for $n$-exact categories. Also we give an example of an $n$-exact category that is not an $n$-cluster tilting subcategory, and we suggest two possible ways for realizing $n$-exact categories as $n$-cluster tilting subcategory.
For any good tilting module $T$ over a ring $A$, there exists an $n$-symmetric subcategory $\mathscr{E}$ of a module category such that the derived category of the endomorphism ring of $T$ is a recollement of the derived categories of $\mathscr{E}$ and $A$ in the sense of Beilinson-Bernstein-Deligne. Thus the kernel of the total left-derived tensor functor induced by the tilting module is triangle equivalent to the derived category of $\mathscr{E}$.
Let $k$ be a field and $\mathcal{C}$ a $k$-linear, Hom-finite triangulated category with split idempotents. In this paper, we show that under suitable circumstances, the Grothendieck group of $\mathcal{C}$, denoted $K_0(\mathcal{C})$, can be expressed as a quotient of the split Grothendieck group of a higher-cluster tilting subcategory of $\mathcal{C}$. Assume that $n\geq 2$ is an even integer, $\mathcal{C}$ is $n$-Calabi Yau and has an $n$-cluster tilting subcategory $\mathcal{T}$. Then, for every indecomposable $M$ in $\mathcal{T}$, there is an Auslander-Reiten $(n+2)$-angle in $\mathcal{T}$…
Let $k$ be a field. In this short note we give an example of a $2$-abelian $k$-category, realized as a $2$-cluster-tilting subcategory of the category $\operatorname{mod}\,A$ of finite dimensional (right) $A$-modules over a finite dimensional $k$-algebra $A$, for which the naive idea for constructing its "bounded derived category" as $2$-cluster-tilting subcategory of the bounded derived category of $\operatorname{mod}\,A$ cannot work.
We say that an algebra $Λ$ over a commutative noetherian ring $R$ is Calabi-Yau of dimension $d$ ($d$-CY) if the shift functor $[d]$ gives a Serre functor on the bounded derived category of the finite length $Λ$-modules. We show that when $R$ is $d$-dimensional local Gorenstein the $d$-CY algebras are exactly the symmetric $R$-orders of global dimension $d$. We give a complete description of all tilting modules of projective dimension at most one for 2-CY algebras, and show that they are in bijection with elements of affine Weyl groups, preserving various natural partial orders. We show that t…
We prove the existence of an $m$-cluster tilting object in a generalized $m$-cluster category which is $(m+1)$-Calabi-Yau and Hom-finite, arising from an $(m+2)$-Calabi-Yau dg algebra. This is a generalization of the result for the ${m = 1}$ case in Amiot's Ph.~D.~thesis. Our results apply in particular to higher cluster categories associated to suitable finite-dimensional algebras of finite global dimension, and higher cluster categories associated to Ginzburg dg categories coming from suitable graded quivers with superpotential.
Let $\C$ be an $(n+2)$-angulated category with shift functor $Σ$ and $\X$ be a cluster-tilting subcategory of $\C$. Then we show that the quotient category $\C/\X$ is an $n$-abelian category. If $\C$ has a Serre functor, then $\C/\X$ is equivalent to an $n$-cluster tilting subcategory of an abelian category $\textrm{mod}(Σ^{-1}\X)$. Moreover, we also prove that $\textrm{mod}(Σ^{-1}\X)$ is Gorenstein of Gorenstein dimension at most $n$. As an application, we generalize recent results of Jacobsen-Jørgensen and Koenig-Zhu.
Let $\mathcal{M}$ be an $n$-cluster tilting subcategory of ${\rm mod}\mbox{-}Λ$, where $Λ$ is an artin algebra. Let $\mathcal{S}(\mathcal{M})$ denotes the full subcategory of $\mathcal{S}(Λ)$, the submodule category of $Λ$, consisting of all monomorphisms in $\mathcal{M}$. We construct two functors from $\mathcal{S}(\mathcal{M})$ to ${\rm mod}\mbox{-}\underline{\mathcal{M}}$, the category of finitely presented (coherent) additive contravariant functors on the stable category of $\mathcal{M}$. We show that these functors are full, dense and objective. So they induce equivalences from the quotie…
We study higher cluster tilting objects in generalized higher cluster categories arising from dg algebras of higher Calabi-Yau dimension. Taking advantage of silting mutations of Aihara-Iyama, we obtain a class of $m$-cluster tilting objects in generalized $m$-cluster categories. For generalized $m$-cluster categories arising from strongly ($m+2$)-Calabi-Yau dg algebras, by using truncations of minimal cofibrant resolutions of simple modules, we prove that each almost complete $m$-cluster tilting $P$-object has exactly $m+1$ complements with periodicity property. This leads us to the conjectur…
Given a triangulated 2-Calabi-Yau category C and a cluster-tilting subcategory T, the index of an object X of C is a certain element of the Grothendieck group of the additive category T. In this note, we show that a rigid object of C is determined by its index, that the indices of the indecomposables of a cluster-tilting subcategory T' form a basis of the Grothendieck group of T and that, if T and T' are related by a mutation, then the indices with respect to T and T' are related by a certain piecewise linear transformation introduced by Fomin and Zelevinsky in their study of cluster algebras …
Building on work of Jasso, we prove that any projectively generated $d$-abelian category is equivalent to a $d$-cluster tilting subcategory of an abelian category with enough projectives. This supports the claim that $d$-abelian categories are good axiomatizations of $d$-cluster tilting subcategories.
We investigate the role of gentle algebras in higher homological algebra. In the first part of the paper, we show that if the module category of a gentle algebra $Λ$ contains a $d$-cluster tilting subcategory for some $d \geq 2$, then $Λ$ is a radical square zero Nakayama algebra. This gives a complete classification of weakly $d$-representation finite gentle algebras. In the second part, we use a geometric model of the derived category to prove a similar result in the triangulated setup. More precisely, we show that if $\mathcal{D}^b(Λ)$ contains a $d$-cluster tilting subcategory that is clos…
Let $Λ$ be an artin algebra and $T$ a $τ$-tilting $Λ$-module. We prove that $T$ is a tilting module if and only if ${\rm Ext}_Λ^{i}(T,\Fac T)=0$ for all $i\geq 1$, where $\Fac T$ is the full subcategory consisting of modules generated by $T$. Consequently, a $τ$-tilting module $T$ of finite projective dimension is a tilting module if and only if ${\rm Ext}_Λ^{i}(T, T)=0$ for all $i\geq 1$. Moreover, we also give an example to show that a support $τ$-tilting but not $τ$-tilting module $M$ of finite projective dimension satisfying ${\rm Ext}_Λ^{i}(M, M)=0$ for all $i\geq1$ need not be a partial …
This short note surveys the constructions of 3-Calabi--Yau triangulated categories with simple-minded collections due to Ginzburg and Kontsevich--Soibelman and the constructions of 2-Calabi--Yau triangulated categories with cluster-tilting objects due to Buan--Marsh--Reineke--Reiten--Todorov and Amiot, and includes a discussion on the normal form of 2-Calabi--Yau triangulated categories with cluster-tilting objects.
This paper shows a new phenomenon in higher cluster tilting theory. For each positive integer d, we exhibit a triangulated category C with the following properties. On the one hand, the d-cluster tilting subcategories of C have very simple mutation behaviour: Each indecomposable object has exactly d mutations. On the other hand, the weakly d-cluster tilting subcategories of C which lack functorial finiteness can have much more complicated mutation behaviour: For each 0 <= \ell <= d-1, we show a weakly d-cluster tilting subcategory T_{\ell} which has an indecomposable object with precisely \ell…
Let $\mathscr{C}$ be a 2-Calabi-Yau triangulated category, and let $\mathscr{T}$ be a cluster tilting subcategory of $\mathscr{C}$. An important result from Dehy and Keller tells us that a rigid object $c \in \mathscr{C}$ is uniquely defined by its index with respect to $\mathscr{T}$. The notion of triangulated categories extends to the notion of $(d+2)$-angulated categories. Thanks to a paper by Oppermann and Thomas, we now have a definition for cluster tilting subcategories in higher dimensions. This paper proves that under a technical assumption, an indecomposable object in a $(d+2)$-angula…
We study abelian quotient categories A=T/J, where T is a triangulated category and J is an ideal of T. Under the assumption that the quotient functor is cohomological we show that it is representable and give an explicit description of the functor. We give technical criteria for when a representable functor is a quotient functor, and a criterion for when J gives rise to a cluster-tilting subcategory of T. We show that the quotient functor preserves the AR-structure. As an application we show that if T is a finite 2-Calabi-Yau category, then with very few exceptions J is a cluster-tilting subca…
We show that an algebraic 2-Calabi-Yau triangulated category over an algebraically closed field is a cluster category if it contains a cluster tilting subcategory whose quiver has no oriented cycles. We prove a similar characterization for higher cluster categories. As a first application, we show that the stable category of maximal Cohen-Macaulay modules over a certain isolated singularity of dimension three is a cluster category. As a second application, we prove the non-acyclicity of the quivers of endomorphism algebras of cluster-tilting objects in the stable categories of representation-i…
Let $\C$ be a triangulated category with a cluster tilting subcategory $\T$. We introduce the notion of $\T[1]$-cluster tilting subcategories (also called ghost cluster tilting subcategories) of $\C$, which are a generalization of cluster tilting subcategories. We first develop a basic theory on ghost cluster tilting subcategories. Secondly, we study links between ghost cluster tilting theory and $τ$-tilting theory: Inspired by the work of Iyama, Jørgensen and Yang \cite{ijy}, we introduce the notion of $τ$-tilting subcategories and tilting subcategories of $\mod\T$. We show that there exists …
We give a complete classification of (co)torsion pairs in finite $2$-Calabi-Yau triangulated categories with maximal rigid objects which are not cluster tilting. These finite $2$-Calabi-Yau triangulated categories are divided into two main classes: one denoted by $\mathcal{A}_{n,t}$ called of type $A$, and the other denoted by $D_{n,t}$ called of type $D$. By using the geometric model of cluster categories of type $A, $ or type $D$, we give a geometric description of (co)torsion pairs in $\mathcal{A}_{n,t}$ or $D_{n,t}$ respectively, via defining the periodic Ptolemy diagrams. This allows to c…
We prove that some subquotient categories of exact categories are abelian. This generalizes a result by Koenig-Zhu in the case of (algebraic) triangulated categories. As a particular case, if an exact category B with enough projectives and injectives has a cluster tilting subcategory M, then B/M is abelian. More precisely, it is equivalent to the category of finitely presented modules over the stable category of M.
We study the projective dimensions of the restriction of functors Hom(-,X) to a contravariantly finite rigid subcategory T of a triangulated category C. We show that the projective dimension of Hom(-,X)|T is at most one if and only if there are no non-zero morphisms between objects in T[1] factoring through X, when the object X belongs to a suitable subcategory of C. As a consequence, we obtain a characterisation of the objects of infinite projective dimension in the category of finitely presented contravariant functors on a cluster-tilting subcategory of C.
We construct a Caldero-Chapoton map on a triangulated category with a cluster tilting subcategory which may have infinitely many indecomposable objects. The map is not necessarily defined on all objects of the triangulated category, but we show that it is a (weak) cluster map in the sense of Buan-Iyama-Reiten-Scott. As a corollary, it induces a surjection from the set of exceptional objects which can be reached from the cluster tilting subcategory to the set of cluster variables of an associated cluster algebra. Along the way, we study the interaction between Calabi-Yau reduction, cluster stru…
