Let $G$ be a reductive $p$-adic group. We prove that all supercuspidal representations of $G$ arise through Yu's construction subject to certain hypotheses on $k$ (depending on $G$). As a corollary, under the same hypotheses, we see that any supercuspidal representation is compactly induced from a representation of an open subgroup which is compact modulo the center.
We construct a Langlands parameterization of supercuspidal representations of $G_2$ over a $p$-adic field. More precisely, for any finite extension $K / \QQ_p$ we will construct a bijection \[ \CL_g : \CA^0_g(G_2,K) \rightarrow \CG^0(G_2,K) \] from the set of generic supercuspidal representations of $G_2(K)$ to the set of irreducible continuous homomorphisms $ρ: W_K \to G_2(\CC)$ with $W_K$ the Weil group of $K$. The construction of the map is simply a matter of assembling arguments that are already in the literature, together with a previously unpublished theorem of G. Savin on exceptional th…
Let $F/F_0$ be a quadratic extension of non-Archimedean locally compact fields of residual characteristic $p\neq2$, and let $σ$ denote its non-trivial automorphism. Let $R$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic different from $p$. To any cuspidal representation $π$ of ${\rm GL}_n(F)$, with coefficients in $R$, such that $π^σ\simeqπ^{\vee}$ (such a representation is said to be $σ$-selfdual) we associate a quadratic extension $D/D_0$, where $D$ is a tamely ramified extension of $F$ and $D_0$ is a tamely ramified extension of $F_0$, together with a quadratic character of $D_0^{\times…
We prove that Kaletha's local Langlands correspondence for regular supercuspidal representations gives the classical local Jacquet--Langlands correspondence due to Deligne--Kazhdan--Vigneras and Badulescu. As in a former joint paper with Oi, where a similar result is proved for the local Langlands correspondence for the general linear group, the key ingredients in our proof are the work of Bushnell--Henniart explicitly describing the local Jacquet--Langlands correspondence for essentially tame supercuspidal representations and its reinterpretation due to Tam in terms of Langlands--Shelstad's \…
Let $G$ be a connected reductive group defined over a non archimedean local field $k$. A theorem of Bernstein states that for any compact open subgroup $K$ of $G(k)$, there are, up to unramified twists, only finitely many $K$-spherical supercuspidal representations of $G(k)$. We prove an analogous result on the Galois side of the Langlands correspondence.
Following the method developed by Waldspurger and Beuzart-Plessis in their proofs of the local Gan-Gross-Prasad conjecture, we are able to prove the geometric side of a local relative trace formula for the Ginzburg-Rallis model. Then by applying such formula, we prove a multiplicity formula of the Ginzburg-Rallis model for the supercuspidal representations. Using that multiplicity formula, we prove the multiplicity one theorem for the Ginzburg-Rallis model over Vogan packets in the supercuspidal case.
This paper is concerned with representations of split orthogonal and quasi-split unitary groups over a nonarchimedean local field which are not generic, but which support a unique model of a different kind, the generalized Bessel model. The properties of the Bessel models under induction are studied, and an analogue of Rodier's theorem concerning the induction of Whittaker models is proved for Bessel models which are minimal in a suitable sense. The holomorphicity in the induction parameter of the Bessel functional is established. Last, local coefficients are defined for each irreducible super…
If $G$ is a group acting on a tree $X$, and ${\mathcal S}$ is a $G$-equivariant sheaf of vector spaces on $X$, then its compactly-supported cohomology is a representation of $G$. Under a finiteness hypothesis, we prove that if $H_c^0(X, {\mathcal S})$ is an irreducible representation of $G$, then $H_c^0(X, {\mathcal S})$ arises by induction from a vertex or edge stabilizing subgroup. If $G$ is a reductive group over a nonarchimedean local field $F$, then Schneider and Stuhler realize every irreducible supercuspidal representation of $G(F)$ in the degree-zero cohomology of a $G(F)$-equivariant …
Let F be a non-archimedean local field of characteristic zero. In this paper we construct examples of supercuspidal representations showing that the bound $[N/2]$ for the local converse theorem of $GL_N(F)$ is sharp, N general, when the residual characteristic of $F$ is bigger than $N$.
In this paper, we prove the local converse theorem for $\textrm{Sp}_{2r}(F)$ over a $p$-adic field $F$. More precisely, given two irreducible supercuspidal representations of $\textrm{Sp}_{2r}(F)$ with the same central character such that they are generic with the same additive character and they have the same gamma factors when twisted with generic irreducible representations of $\textrm{GL}_n(F)$ for all $1\le n\le r$, then these two representations must be isomorphic. Our proof is based on the local analysis of the local integrals which define local gamma factors. A key ingredient of the pr…
Let $E/F$ be a quadratic extension of $p$-adic fields and $\textrm{U}_{2r+1}$ be the unitary group associated with $E/F$. We prove the following local converse theorem for $\textrm{U}_{2r+1}$: given two irreducible generic supercuspidal representations $π,π_0$ of $\textrm{U}_{2r+1}$ with the same central character, if $γ(s,π\times τ,ψ)=γ(s,π_0\times τ,ψ)$ for all irreducible generic representation $τ$ of $\textrm{GL}_n(E)$ and for all $n$ with $1\le n\le r$, then $π\cong π_0$. The proof depends on analysis of the local integrals which define local gamma factors and uses certain properties of p…
Given a regular supercuspidal representation $ρ$ of the Levi subgroup $M$ of a standard parabolic subgroup $P=MN$ in a connected reductive group $G$ defined over a non-archimedean local field $F$, we serve you a Rodier type structure theorem which provides us a geometrical parametrization of the set $JH(Ind^G_P(ρ))$ of Jordan--H{ö}lder constituents of the Harish-Chandra parabolic induction representation $Ind^G_P(ρ)$, vastly generalizing Rodier structure theorem for $P=B=TU$ Borel subgroup of a connected split reductive group about 40 years ago. Our novel contribution is to overcome the essent…
We prove several multiplicity one theorems in this paper. For k a local field not of characteristic two, and V a symplectic space over k, any irreducible admissible representation of the symplectic similitude group GSp(V) decomposes with multiplicity one when restricted to the symplectic group Sp(V). We prove the analogous result for GO(V) and O(V), where V is an orthogonal space over k. When k is non-archimedean, we prove the uniqueness of Fourier-Jacobi models for representations of GSp(4), and the existence of such models for supercuspidal representations of GSp(4).
In this paper we characterize irreducible generic representations of $\SO_{2n+1}(k)$ where $k$ is a $p$-adic field) by means of twisted local gamma factors (the Local Converse Theorem). As applications, we prove that two irreducible generic cuspidal automorphic representations of $\SO_{2n+1}({\Bbb A})$ (where ${\Bbb A}$ is the ring of adeles of a number field) are equivalent if their local components are equivalent at almost all local places (the Rigidity Theorem);and prove the Local Langlands Reciprocity Conjecture for generic supercuspidal representations of $\SO_{2n+1}(k)$.
Given a supercuspidal representation $σ$ of a parabolic subgroup $P$ of reductive group $G$, we discover a universal hierarchical structure of reducibility of the parabolic induction $Ind^G_P(σ)$, i.e. always irreducible from some Levi-level up. As its applications, we provide a new simple proof of the generic irreducibility property of parabolic induction, and prove Clozel's finiteness conjecture of special exponents under some conditions. Indeed, those conditions are predicted by two conjectures of Shahidi which in some sense are proved for classical groups by Arthur in his monumental book--…
Let $\mathbf{G}$ be an unramified quasi-split unitary group over a p-adic field of odd residual characteristic. The goal of this paper is to describe the supercuspidal representations within certain L-packets of $\mathbf{G}$, which are classified by Arthur and Mok using the theory of endoscopy. The description is given in terms of the cuspidal types constructed by Bushnell-Kutzko and Stevens. As a starting example, we require the parameters of our packets to satisfy certain regularity conditions, such that these packets consist of very cuspidal representations in the sense of Adler and Reeder.…
Let F be a non-archimedean local field, of characteristic 0. Let V be a finite dimensional vector space over F and q be a non-degenerate quadratic form on V. Denote d the dimension of V and G=SO(d) the special orthogonal group of (V,q). Let v_{0}\in V such that q(v_{0})\not=0, denote W the subspace of V orthogonal to v_{0} and H=SO(d-1) the special orthogonal group of W. Let π, resp. σ, an admissible irreducible representation of G(F), resp. H(F). Denote m(σ,π) the dimension of the complex space Hom_{H(F)}(π_{| H(F)},σ). By a theorem of Aizenbud, Gourevitch, Rallis and Schiffmann, we know that…
Let $G=PSL(2,\mathbb{R})$, let $Γ$ be a lattice in $G$, and let $\mathcal{H}$ be an irreducible unitary representation of $G$ with square-integrable matrix coefficients. A theorem in [Goodman, de la Harpe, Jones 1989] states that the von Neumann dimension of $\mathcal{H}$ as a $RΓ$-module is equal to the formal dimension of the discrete series representation $\mathcal{H}$ times the covolume of $Γ$, calculated with respect to the same Haar measure. We prove two results inspired by this theorem. First, we show there is a representation of $RΓ_2$ on a subspace of cuspidal automorphic functions in…
Let F be a p-adic field and n a positive integer. The local Langlands conjecture asserts the existence of a bijection between irreducible admissible representations of GL(n,F) and n-dimensional admissible representations of the Weil-Deligne group of F. This bijection is required to satisfy certain natural compatibilities, of which the most important is compatibility with local functional equations (preservation of L and epsilon factors of pairs). It is enough to construct a bijection with these properties between supercuspidal representations of GL(n,F) and n-dimensional irreducible representa…
