We show that every bad orbifold vector bundle can be realized as the restriction of a good orbifold vector bundle to a suborbifold of the base space. We give an explicit construction of this result in which the Chen-Ruan orbifold cohomology of the two base spaces are isomorphic (as additive groups). This construction is used to indicate an extension of the Chern-Weil construction of characteristic classes to bad orbifold vector bundles. In particular, we apply this construction to the orbifold Euler class and demonstrate that it acts as an obstruction to the existence of nonvanishing sections.
This article is devoted to a study of flat orbifold vector bundles. We construct a bijection between the isomorphic classes of proper flat orbifold vector bundles and the equivalence classes of representations of the orbifold fundamental groups of base orbifolds. We establish a Bismut-Zhang like anomaly formula for the Ray-Singer metric on the determine line of the cohomology of a compact orbifold with coefficients in an orbifold flat vector bundle. We show that the analytic torsion of an acyclic unitary flat orbifold vector bundle is equal to the value at zero of a dynamical zeta function whe…
For a holomorphic vector bundle over a compact Kähler orbifold, the slope stability of the bundle is shown to be equivalent to the existence of a Hermitian-Einstein metric or to the properness of a certain functional introduced by Donaldson.
We show that the orbifold fundamental group of an effective compact K{ä}hler orbifold with nef anticanonical bundle has polynomial growth, which generalizes M.P ăun's results for manifolds [P ău97, Theorem 1,Theorem 2]
In this paper, we establish an equality between the analytic torsion introduced by Dar\cite{MR876230} and the orbifold analytic torsion defined by Ma \cite{MR2140438} on a compact manifold with isolated conical singularities which in addition has an orbifold structure. We assume the orbifold flat vector bundle is an honest vector bundle, although the metric on the flat bundle may not be flat.
The analysis of holomorphic sections of high powers $L^N$ of holomorphic ample line bundles $L\to M$ over compact Kähler manifolds has been widely applied in complex geometry and mathematical physics. The Tian-Yau-Zelditch's asymptotic expansion of the Szegö kernel of a circle bundle plays an important role in Kähler-Einstein geometry. We generalize the expansion for compact Kähler orbifolds with only finite isolated singularities and analyze the behavior of the expansion near the singularities.
We discuss positive closed currents and Fubini-Study currents on orbifolds, as well as Bergman kernels of singular Hermitian orbifold line bundles. We prove that the Fubini-Study currents associated to high powers of a semipositive singular line bundle converge weakly to the curvature current on the set where the curvature is strictly positive, generalizing a well-known theorem of Tian. We include applications to the asymptotic distribution of zeros of random holomorphic sections.
We give a description of the delocalized twisted cohomology of an orbifold and the Chern character of a twisted vector bundle in terms of supersymmetric Euclidean field theories. This includes the construction of a twist functor for $1|1$-dimensional EFTs from the data of a gerbe with connection.
In this paper, we compute contact homology of some quasi-regular contact structures, which admit Hamiltonian actions of Reeb type of Lie groups. We will discuss the toric contact case, (where the torus is of Reeb type), and the case of homogeneous contact manifolds. In both of these cases the quotients by the Reeb action are Kähler and admit perfect Morse-Bott functions via the moment map. It turns out that the contact homology depends only on the homology of the symplectic base and the bundle data of the contact manifolds as a circle bundle over the base. Moreover we can identify the relevant…
For a finitely presented discrete group $Γ$, we introduce two generalizations of the orbifold Euler characteristic and $Γ$-orbifold Euler characteristic to a class of proper topological groupoids large enough to include all cocompact proper Lie groupoids. The $Γ$-Euler characteristic is defined as an integral with respect to the Euler characteristic over the orbit space of the groupoid, and the $Γ$-inertia Euler characteristic is the usual Euler characteristic of the $Γ$-inertia space associated to the groupoid. A key ingredient is the application of o-minimal structures to study orbit spaces …
In this paper we consider the Boothby-Wang construction over twist 1 stage 3 Bott orbifolds given in terms of the log pair $(S_{\bf n},Δ_{\bf m})$. We give explicit constant scalar curvature (CSC) Sasaki metrics either directly from CSC Kähler orbifold metrics or by using the weighted extremal approach of Apostolov and Calderbank. The Sasaki 7-manifolds (orbifolds) are finitely covered by compact simply connected manifolds (orbifolds) with the rational homology of the 2-fold connected sum of $S^2\times S^5$.
In the classical theory of toric manifolds polytopes appear in two guises -- as Newton polytopes of line bundles on the complex, and as moment polytopes on the symplectic side, the link between the two being established by the prequantizability condition on the cohomology class of the symplectic form. Here we give a combinatorial description of the orbifold Picard group for complete toric orbifolds, with the aim of detailing the relation between complex and symplectic aspects in the orbifold setting. In particular this permits to illustrate the breakdown of identification of (orbifold) line bu…
Let S be a compact connected oriented orbifold surface We show that using Bers simultaneous uniformization, the moduli space of projective structure on S can be mapped biholomorphically onto the total space of the holomorphic cotangent bundle of the Teichmüller space for S. The total space of the holomorphic cotangent bundle of the Teichmüller space is equipped with the Liouville symplectic form, and the moduli space of projective structures also has a natural holomorphic symplectic form. The above identification is proved to be compatible with these symplectic structures. Similar results are …
We compute the Chen-Ruan orbifold cohomology ring of the Batyrev mirror orbifold of a smooth quintic hypersurface in 4-dimensional projective space. We identify the obstruction bundle for this example by using the Riemann bilinear relations for periods. We outline a general method of computing the Chen-Ruan ring for Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces in projective simplicial toric varieties, modulo a conjecture that the Riemann bilinear relations are adequate for identifying the obstruction bundle for any complex orbifold.

For a semisimple real Lie group $G$, we study topological properties of moduli spaces of polystable parabolic $G$-Higgs bundles over a Riemann surface with a divisor of finitely many distinct points. For a split real form of a complex simple Lie group, we compute the dimension of apparent parabolic Teichm{ü}ller components. In the case of isometry groups of classical Hermitian symmetric spaces of tube type, we provide new topological invariants for maximal parabolic $G$-Higgs bundles arising from a correspondence to orbifold Higgs bundles. Using orbifold cohomology we count the least number of…
We study actions of finite groups on moduli spaces of stable holomorphic vector bundles and relate the fixed-point sets of those actions to representation varieties of certain orbifold fundamental groups.

Let $Γ$ be a finite group acting linearly on $\C^n$, freely outside the origin, and let $N$ be the number of conjugacy classes of $Γ$ minus one. A construction of Kronheimer of moduli spaces $X_ζ$ of translation-invariant $Γ$-equivariant instantons on $\C^2$ is generalised to $\C^n$. The moduli spaces $X_ζ$ depend on a parameter $ζ\in\Q^N$. The following results are proved: for $ζ=0$, $X_0$ is isomorphic to $\C^n/Γ$; if $ζ\neq 0$, the natural maps $X_ζ\to X_0$ are partial resolutions. The moduli $X_ζ$ are furthermore shown to admit Kähler metrics which are Asymptotically Locally Euclidean (ALE…
We study the moduli space M(G,A) of flat G-bundles on an Abelian surface A, where G is a compact, simple, simply connected, connected Lie group. Equivalently, M(G,A) is the (coarse) moduli space of s-equivalence classes of holomorphic semi-stable G_C-bundles with trivial Chern classes where G_C is the complexified group. M(G,A) has the structure of a hyperkahler orbifold. We show that when G is Sp(n) or SU(n), M(G,A) has a natural hyperkahler desingularization which we exhibit as a moduli space of G_C-bundles with an altered stability condition. In this way, we obtain the two known families of…
Let $M$ be a compact complex manifold of dimension at least three and $Π: M\rightarrow X$ a positive principal elliptic fibration, where $X$ is a compact Kähler orbifold. Fix a preferred Hermitian metric on $M$. In \cite{V}, the third author proved that every stable vector bundle on $M$ is of the form $L\otimes Π^*B_0$, where $B_0$ is a stable vector bundle on $X$, and $L$ is a holomorphic line bundle on $M$. Here we prove that every stable Higgs bundle on $M$ is of the form $(L\otimes Π^*B_0,Π^*Φ_X)$, where $(B_0, Φ_X)$ is a stable Higgs bundle on $X$ and $L$ is a holomorphic line bundle on $…
We generalize work of Deligne and Gillet-Soulé on a Riemann-Roch type isometry, to the case of the trivial sheaf on cusp compactifications of Riemann surfaces $Γ\backslash\mathbb{H}$, for $Γ\subset PSL_{2}(\mathbb{R})$ a fuchsian group of the first kind, equipped with the Poincaré metric. This metric is singular at cusps and elliptic fixed points, and the results of Deligne and Gillet-Soulé do not apply to this setting. Our theorem relates the determinant of cohomology of the trivial sheaf, with an explicit Quillen type metric in terms of the Selberg zeta function of $Γ$, to a metrized version…
We show that the moduli space of nonnegatively curved metrics on each member of a large class of 2-connected 7-manifolds, including each smooth manifold homeomorphic to $S^7$, has infinitely many connected components. The components are distinguished using the Kreck-Stolz $s$-invariant computed for metrics constructed by Goette, Kerin and Shankar. The invariant is computed by extending each metric to the total space of an orbifold disc bundle and applying generalizations of the Atiyah-Patodi-Singer index theorem for orbifolds with boundary. We develop methods for computing characteristic class…
We show that Chen-Ruan cohomology is a homotopy invariant in certain cases. We introduce the notion of a T-representation homotopy, which is a stringent form of homotopy under which Chen-Ruan cohomology is invariant. We show that while hyperkahler quotients of the cotangent bundle to a complex vector space by a circle S^1 (here termed weighted hyperprojective spaces) are homotopy equivalent to weighted projective spaces, they are not S^1-representation homotopic. Indeed, we show that their Chen-Ruan cohomology rings (over the rationals) are distinct.
The theory of twistors on foliated manifolds is developed and the twistor space of the normal bundle is constructed. It is demonstrated that the classical constructions of the twistor theory lead to foliated objects and permit to formulate and prove foliated versions of some well-known results on holomorphic mappings. Since any orbifold can be understood as the leaf space of a suitable defined Riemannian foliation we obtain orbifold versions of the classical results as a simple consequence of the results on foliated mappings.
We prove a generalization of Kawai theorem for the case of orbifold Riemann surface. The computation is based on a formula for the differential of a holomorphic map from the cotangent bundle of the Teichmüller space to the $\mathrm{PSL}(2,\mathbb{C})$-character variety, which allows to evaluate explicitly the pullback of Goldman symplectic form in the spirit of Riemann bilinear relations. As a corollary, we obtain a generalization of Goldman's theorem that the pullback of Goldman symplectic from on $\mathrm{PSL}(2,\mathbb{R})$-character variety is a symplectic form of the Weil-Petersson metric…
We study anti-holomorphic involutions of the moduli space of principal $G$-Higgs bundles over a compact Riemann surface $X$, where $G$ is a complex semisimple Lie group. These involutions are defined by fixing anti-holomorphic involutions on both $X$ and $G$. We analyze the fixed point locus in the moduli space and their relation with representations of the orbifold fundamental group of $X$ equipped with the anti-holomorphic involution. We also study the relation with branes. This generalizes work by Biswas--Garc\'ıa-Prada--Hurtubise and Baraglia--Schaposnik.
We develop the theory of simplicial extensions for bundle gerbes and their characteristic classes with a view towards studying descent problems and equivariance for bundle gerbes. Equivariant bundle gerbes are important in the study of orbifold sigma models. We consider in detail two examples: the basic bundle gerbe on a unitary group and a string structure for a principal bundle. We show that the basic bundle gerbe is equivariant for the conjugation action and calculate its characteristic class; we show also that a string structure gives rise to a bundle gerbe which is equivariant for a natur…
We construct the first examples of families of bad Riemannian orbifolds which are isospectral with respect to the Laplacian but not isometric. In our case these are particular fixed weighted projective spaces equipped with isospectral metrics obtained by a generalization of Schüth's version of the torus method.
Let E be a Real or Quaternionic Hermitian vector bundle over a Klein surface M. We study the action of the gauge group of E on the space of Galois-invariant unitary connections and we show that the closure of a semi-stable orbit contains a unique unitary orbit of projectively flat, Galois-invariant connections. We then use this invariant-theoretic perspective to prove a version of the Narasimhan-Seshadri correspondence in this context: S-equivalence classes of semi-stable Real and Quaternionic vector bundes are in bijective correspondence with equivalence classes of certain appropriate represe…
