We consider an SDE in R^m of the type dX(t)=a(X(t))dt+dU(t) with a Lévy process U and study the problem for the distribution of a solution to be regular in various senses. We do not impose any specific conditions on the Lévy measure of the noise, and this is the main difference between our method and the known methods by J.Bismut or J.Picard. The main tool in our approach is the stochastic calculus of variations for a Lévy process, based on the time-stretching transformations of the trajectories. Three problems are solved in this framework. First, we prove that if the drift coefficient a is non-degenerated in an appropriate sense, then the law of the solution to the Cauchy problem for the initial equation is absolutely continuous, as soon as the Lévy measure of the noise satisfies one of the rather weak intensity conditions, for instance the so-called wide cone condition. Secondly, we provide the sufficient conditions for the density of the distribution of the solution to the Cauchy problem to be smooth in the terms of the family of the so-called order indices of the Lévy measure of the noise (the drift again is supposed to be non-degenerated). At last, we show that an invariant distribution to the initial equation, if exists, possesses a C^\infty-density provided the drift is non-degenerated and the Lévy measure of the noise satisfies the wide cone condition.
In this paper, we derive a characterization theorem for the path-independent property of the density of the Girsanov transformation for {\it degenerated} stochastic differential equations (SDEs), extending the characterization theorem of \cite{twwy} for the non-degenerated SDEs. We further extends our consideration to non-Lipschitz SDEs with jumps and with degenerated diffusion coefficients, which generalizes the corresponding characterization theorem established in \cite{hqwu}.
We give a proof of Varadhan estimates for a degenerated jump process with independent increments with more and more jumps which become smaller and smaller. The proof uses the Malliavin Calculus of Bismut type for jump process in semi-group theory and Wentzel-Freidlin estimates for jump process in semi-group theory.
We study the degenerated Itô SDE on $\mathbb R^d$ whose drift coefficient only fulfills a mixed Osgood and Sobolev regularity. Under suitable assumptions on the gradient of the diffusion coefficient and on the divergence of the drift coefficient, we prove the existence and uniqueness of generalized stochastic flows associated to such equations. We also prove the uniqueness of solutions to the corresponding Fokker--Planck equation by using the probabilistic method.
By means of the Malliavin calculus, integral representations for the likelihood function and for the derivative of the log-likelihood function are given for a model based on discrete time observations of the solution to equation dX_t=a_θ(X_t)dt + dZ_t with a tempered α-stable process Z. Using these representations, regularity of the statistical experiment and the Cramer-Rao inequality are proved.
We consider a sequence $(ξ_n)_{n\ge1}$ of $i.i.d.$ random values living in the domain of attraction of an extreme value distribution. For such sequence, there exists $(a_n)$ and $(b_n)$, with $a_n>0$ and $b_n\in\ER$ for every $n\ge 1$, such that the sequence $(X_n)$ defined by $X_n=(\max(ξ_1,...,ξ_n)-b_n)/a_n$ converges in distribution to a non degenerated distribution. In this paper, we show that $(X_n)$ can be viewed as an Euler scheme with decreasing step of an ergodic Markov process solution to a SDE with jumps and we derive a functional limit theorem for the sequence $(X_n)$ from some met…
By using the mirror coupling for solutions of SDEs driven by pure jump Lévy processes, we extend some transportation and concentration inequalities, which were previously known only in the case where the coefficients in the equation satisfy a global dissipativity condition. Furthermore, by using the mirror coupling for the jump part and the coupling by reflection for the Brownian part, we extend analogous results for jump diffusions. To this end, we improve some previous results concerning such couplings and show how to combine the jump and the Brownian case. As a crucial step in our proof, we…
We establish the existence of smooth densities for solutions to a broad class of path-dependent SDEs under a Hörmander-type condition. The classical scheme based on the reduced Malliavin matrix turns out to be unavailable in the path-dependent context. We approach the problem by lifting the given $n$-dimensional path-dependent SDE into a suitable $L_p$-type Banach space in such a way that the lifted Banach-space-valued equation becomes a state-dependent reformulation of the original SDE. We then formulate Hörmander's bracket condition in $\mathbb R^n$ for non-anticipative SDE coefficients defi…
We consider anticipative Stratonovich stochastic differential equations driven by some stochastic process (not necessarily a semi-martingale). No adaptedness of initial point or vector fields is assumed. Under a simple condition on the stochastic process, we show that the unique solution of the above SDE understood in the rough path sense is actually a Stratonovich solution. This condition is satisfied by the Brownian motion and the fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter greater than 1/4. As application, we obtain rather flexible results such as support theorems, large deviation princ…
By using distribution dependent Zvonkin's transforms and Malliavin calculus, the Bismut type formula is derived for the intrinisc/Lions derivatives of distribution dependent SDEs with singular drifts, which generalizes the corresponding results derived for classical SDEs and regular distribution dependent SDEs.
In this paper we prove the existence of strong solutions to a SDE with a generalized drift driven by a multidimensional fractional Brownian motion for small Hurst parameters H<1/2. Here the generalized drift is given as the local time of the unknown solution process, which can be considered an extension of the concept of a skew Brownian motion to the case of fractional Brownian motion. Our approach for the construction of strong solutions is new and relies on techniques from Malliavin calculus combined with a "local time variational calculus" argument.
In this paper we present a new method for the construction of strong solutions of SDE's with merely integrable drift coefficients driven by a multidimensional fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter H < 1/2. Furthermore, we prove the rather surprising result of the higher order Frechet differentiability of stochastic flows of such SDE's in the case of a small Hurst parameter. In establishing these results we use techniques from Malliavin calculus combined with new ideas based on a "local time variational calculus". We expect that our general approach can be also applied to the study of…
In this paper we derive a Bismut-Elworthy-Li type formula with respect to strong solutions to singular stochastic differential equations (SDE's) with additive noise given by a multi-dimensional fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H<1/2$. "Singular" here means that the drift vector field of such equations is allowed to be merely bounded and integrable. As an application we use this representation formula for the study of price sensitivities of financial claims based on a stock price model with stochastic volatility, whose dynamics is described by means of fractional Brownian motion…
For degenerate stochastic differential equations driven by fractional Brownian motions with Hurst parameter $H>1/2$, the derivative formulas are established by using Malliavin calculus and coupling method, respectively. Furthermore, we find some relation between these two approaches. As applications, the (log) Harnack inequalities and the hyperbounded property are presented.
We consider anticipative Stratonovich stochastic differential equations driven by some stochastic process lifted to a rough path. Neither adaptedness of initial point and vector fields nor commuting conditions between vector field is assumed. Under a simple condition on the stochastic process, we show that the unique solution of the above SDE understood in the rough path sense is actually a Stratonovich solution. We then show that this condition is satisfied by the Brownian motion. As application, we obtain rather flexible results such as support theorems, large deviation principles and Wong--…
By using the Malliavin calculus and finite-jump approximations, the Driver-type integration by parts formula is established for the semigroup associated to stochastic differential equations with noises containing a subordinate Brownian motion. As applications, the shift-Harnack inequality and heat kernel estimates are derived. The main results are illustrated by SDEs driven by $å$-stable like processes.
The classical Bakry-Émery calculus is extended to study, for degenerated (non-elliptic, non-reversible, or non-diffusive) Markov processes, questions such as hypoellipticity, hypocoercivity, functional inequalities or Wasserstein contraction. In particular we obtain the optimal speed of convergence to equilibrium for any ergodic Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process, which is given by the spectral gap of the drift matrix and the size of the corresponding Jordan blocks. We also study chains of $N$ interacting overdamped particles and establish for their invariant measures log-Sobolev inequalities with con…
By using Bismut's approach about the Malliavin calculus with jumps, we study the regularity of the distributional density for SDEs driven by degenerate additive Lévy noises. Under full Hörmander's conditions, we prove the existence of distributional density and the weak continuity in the first variable of the distributional density. Under the uniform first order Lie's bracket condition, we also prove the smoothness of the density.
This work concerns continuous-time, continuous-space stochastic dynamical systems described by stochastic differential equations (SDE). It presents a new approach to compute probabilistic safety regions, namely sets of initial conditions of the SDE associated to trajectories that are safe with a probability larger than a given threshold. The approach introduces a functional that is minimised at the border of the probabilistic safety region, then solves an optimisation problem using techniques from Malliavin Calculus, which computes such region. Unlike existing results in the literature, the ne…
In this paper we study short time asymptotics of a density function of the solution of a stochastic differential equation driven by fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $H \in (1/2, 1)$ when the coefficient vector fields satisfy an ellipticity condition at the starting point. We prove both on-diagonal and off-diagonal asymptotics under mild additional assumptions. Our main tool is Malliavin calculus, in particular, Watanabe's theory of generalized Wiener functionals.
By using Malliavin calculus, Bismut type formulas are established for the Lions derivative of $P_tf(μ):=\mathbb E f(X_t^μ)$, where $t>0,$ $ f $ is a bounded measurable function, and $X_t^μ$ solves a distribution dependent SDE with initial distribution $μ$. As applications, explicit estimates are derived for the Lions derivative and the total variational distance between distributions of solutions with different initial data. Both degenerate and non-degenerate situations are considered. Due to the lack of the semigroup property and the invalidity of the formula $P_tf (μ)= \int P_tf(x)μ(d x)$, e…
In his 1972 paper, John Lamperti characterized all positive self-similar Markov processes as time-changes of exponentials of Levy processes. In the past decade the problem of classifying all non-negative self-similar Markov processes that do not necessarily have zero as a trap has been solved gradually via connections to ladder height processes and excursion theory. Motivated by a recent article of Chaumont, Rivero, Panti we classify via jump-type SDEs the symmetric real-valued self-similar Markov processes that only decrease the absolute value by jumps and leave zero continuously. Our constru…
The paper considers the integration theory for $G$-Lévy processes with finite activity. We introduce the Itô-Lévy integrals, give the Itô formula for them and establish SDE's, BSDE's and decoupled FBSDE's driven by $G$-Lévy processes. In order to develop such a theory, we prove two key results: the representation of the sublinear expectation associated with a $G$-Lévy process and a characterization of random variables in $L^p_G(Ω)$ in terms of their quasi-continuity.
Motivated by the recent advances in the theory of stochastic partial differential equations involving nonlinear functions of distributions, like the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang (KPZ) equation, we reconsider the unique solvability of one-dimensional stochastic differential equations, the drift of which is a distribution, by means of rough paths theory. Existence and uniqueness are established in the weak sense when the drift reads as the derivative of a H{ö}lder continuous function. Regularity of the drift part is investigated carefully and a related stochastic calculus is also proposed, which makes th…
We consider a process given as the solution of a one-dimensional stochastic differential equation with irregular, path dependent and time-inhomogeneous drift coefficient and additive noise. Hölder continuity of the Lebesgue density of that process at any given time is achieved using a different approach than the classical ones in the literature. Namely, the Hölder regularity of the densities is obtained via a control problem by identifying the stochastic differential equation with the worst global Hölder constant. Then we generalise our findings to a larger class of diffusion coefficients. The…
In this paper we study general nonlinear stochastic differential equations, where the usual Brownian motion is replaced by a Lévy process. We also suppose that the coefficient multiplying the increments of this process is merely Lipschitz continuous and not necessarily linear in the time-marginals of the solution as is the case in the classical McKean-Vlasov model. We first study existence, uniqueness and particle approximations for these stochastic differential equations. When the driving process is a pure jump Lévy process with a smooth but unbounded Lévy measure, we develop a stochastic cal…
Gradient estimates are derived, for the first time, for the semigroup associated to a class of stochastic differential equations driven by multiplicative Lévy noise. In particular, the estimates are sharp for $α$-stable type noises. To derive these estimates, a new derivative formula of Bismut-Elworthy-Li's type is established for the semigroup by using the Malliavin calculus and a finite-jump approximation argument.
We consider a linear stochastic differential equation with stochastic drift and multiplicative noise. We study the problem of approximating its solution with the process that solves the equation where the possibly stochastic drift is replaced by a deterministic function. To do this, we use a combination of deterministic Pontryagin's maximum principle approach and direct methods of calculus of variations. We find necessary and sufficient conditions for a function $u \in L^1(0,T)$ to be a minimizer of a certain cost functional. To overcome the problem of the existence of such minimizer, we also …
We present recent advances on Dirichlet forms methods either to extend financial models beyond the usual stochastic calculus or to study stochastic models with less classical tools. In this spirit, we interpret the asymptotic error on the solution of an sde due to the Euler scheme in terms of a Dirichlet form on the Wiener space, what allows to propagate this error thanks to functional calculus.
We consider a well-known family of SDEs with irregular drifts and the correspondent zero noise limits. Using (mollified) local times, we show which trajectories are selected. The approach is completely probabilistic and relies on elementary stochastic calculus only.
Using the Bismut's approach to Malliavin calculus, we introduce a simplified Malliavin matrix ([11]) for stochastic differential equations (SDEs) force by degenerate stable like noises. For the degenerate SDEs driven by Wiener noises, one can derive a Norris type lemma and use it \emph{iteratively} to prove the smoothness of density functions. Unfortunately, Norris type lemma is very hard to be iteratively applied to SDEs with stable like noises. In this paper, we derive a simple inequality as a replacement and use it to show that two families of degenerate SDEs with stable like noises admit s…
In this paper, we study the existence of random periodic solutions for semilinear stochastic differential equations. We identify them as solutions of coupled forward-backward infinite horizon stochastic integral equations (IHSIEs), using the "substitution theorem" of stochastic differential equations with anticipating initial conditions. In general, random periodic solutions and the solutions of IHSIEs, are anticipating. For the linear noise case, with the help of the exponential dichotomy given in the multiplicative ergodic theorem, we can identify them as the solutions of infinite horizon ra…
By means of the Malliavin calculus, integral representation for the second derivative of the loglikelihood function are given for a model based on discrete time observations of the solution to SDE driven by a Levy process.
We prove the chain rule in the more general framework of the Wiener-Poisson space, allowing us to obtain the so-called Nourdin-Peccati bound. From this bound we obtain a second-order Poincare-type inequality that is useful in terms of computations. For completeness we survey these results on the Wiener space, the Poisson space, and the Wiener-Poisson space. We also give several applications to central limit theorems with relevant examples: linear functionals of Gaussian subordinated fields (where the subordinated field can be processes like fractional Brownian motion or the solution of the Orn…
By using the Malliavin calculus and finite jump approximations, the Driver-type integration by parts formula is established for the semigroup associated to stochastic (partial) differential equations with noises containing a subordinate Brownian motion. As applications, the shift Harnack inequality and heat kernel estimates are derived. The main results are illustrated by SDEs driven by $å$-stable like processes.
We consider a process $\{X_t\}_{0\leq t\leq 1}$ in a fixed Wiener chaos $\mathcal{H}_n$. We establish some non-degenerate properties and related results for $\{X_t\}_{0\leq t\leq 1}$. As an application, we show that solution to SDE driven by $\{X_t\}_{0\leq t\leq 1}$ admits a density. Our approach relies on an interplay between Malliavin calculus and analysis on Wiener space.
The strong convergence rate of the Euler scheme for SDEs driven by additive fractional Brownian motions is studied, where the fractional Brownian motion has Hurst parameter $H\in(\frac13,\frac12)$ and the drift coefficient is not required to be bounded. The Malliavin calculus, the rough path theory and the $2$D Young integral are utilized to overcome the difficulties caused by the low regularity of the fractional Brownian motion and the unboundedness of the drift coefficient. The Euler scheme is proved to have strong order $2H$ for the case that the drift coefficient has bounded derivatives up…
For stochastic systems driven by continuous semimartingales an explicit formula for the logarithm of the Ito flow map is given. A similar formula is also obtained for solutions of linear matrix-valued SDEs driven by arbitrary semimartingales. The computation relies on the lift to quasi-shuffle algebras of formulas involving products of Ito integrals of semimartingales. Whereas the Chen-Strichartz formula computing the logarithm of the Stratonovich flow map is classically expanded as a formal sum indexed by permutations, the analogous formula in Ito calculus is naturally indexed by surjections.…
In this article, we present a general methodology for control problems driven by the Brownian motion filtration including non-Markovian and non-semimartingale state processes controlled by mutually singular measures. The main result of this paper is the development of a concrete pathwise method for characterizing and computing near-optimal controls for abstract controlled Wiener functionals. The theory does not require ad hoc functional differentiability assumptions on the value process and elipticity conditions on the diffusion components. The analysis is pathwise over suitable finite dimensi…
We present a new approach to absolute continuity of laws of Poisson functionals. The theoretical framework is that of local Dirichlet forms as a tool to study probability spaces. The method gives rise to a new explicit calculus that we show first on some simple examples : it consists in adding a particle and taking it back after computing the gradient. Then we apply it to SDE's driven by Poisson measure.
Let $(P_t)$ be the transition semigroup of the Markov family $(X^x(t))$ defined by SDE $$ d X= b(X) dt + d Z, \qquad X(0)=x, $$ where $Z=\left(Z_1, \ldots, Z_d\right)^*$ is a system of independent real-valued Lévy processes. Using the Malliavin calculus we establish the following gradient formula $$ \nabla P_tf(x)= \mathbb{E}\, f\left(X^x(t)\right) Y(t,x), \qquad f\in B_b(\mathbb{R}^d), $$ where the random field $Y$ does not depend on $f$. Sharp estimates on $\nabla P_tf(x)$ when $Z_1, \ldots , Z_d$ are $α$-stable processes, $α\in (0,2)$, are also given.

Consider the metric space $(\mathcal{P}_2(\mathbb{R}^d),W_2)$ of square integrable laws on $\mathbb{R}^d$ with the topology induced by the 2-Wasserstein distance $W_2$. Let $Φ: \mathcal{P}_2( \mathbb{R}^d) \to \mathbb{R}$ be a function and $μ_N$ be the empirical measure of a sample of $N$ random variables distributed as $μ$. The main result of this paper is to show that under suitable regularity conditions, we have \[ |Φ(μ) - \mathbb{E}Φ(μ_N)|= \sum_{j=1}^{k-1}\frac{C_j}{N^j} + O(\frac{1}{N^k}), \] for some positive constants $C_1, \ldots, C_{k-1}$ that do not depend on $N$, where $k$ correspo…
In this paper, we are interested in the following singular stochastic differential equation (SDE) $${\rm d} X_t = b(t,X_t) {\rm d} t + {\rm d} B_{t},\ 0\leq t\leq T,\ X_0 = x \in \mathbb{R}^d,$$ where the drift coefficient $b:[0,T]\times \mathbb{R}^{d}\longrightarrow \mathbb{R}^{d}$ is Borel measurable, possibly unbounded and has spatial linear growth. The driving noise $B_{t}$ is a $d-$ dimensional Brownian motion. The main objective of the paper is to establish the existence and uniqueness of a strong solution and a Sobolev differentiable stochastic flow for the above SDE. Malliavin differen…
Suppose that a real valued process X is given as a solution to a stochastic differential equation. Then, for any twice continuously differentiable function f, the backward Kolmogorov equation gives a condition for f(t,X) to be a local martingale. We generalize the backward equation in two main ways. First, it is extended to non-differentiable functions. Second, the process X is not required to satisfy an SDE. Instead, it is only required to be a quasimartingale satisfying an integrability condition, and the martingale condition for f(t,X) is then expressed in terms of the marginal distribution…
In this paper we propose a notion of viscosity solutions for path dependent semi-linear parabolic PDEs. This can also be viewed as viscosity solutions of non-Markovian backward SDEs, and thus extends the well-known nonlinear Feynman-Kac formula to non-Markovian case. We shall prove the existence, uniqueness, stability and comparison principle for the viscosity solutions. The key ingredient of our approach is a functional Itô calculus recently introduced by Dupire [Functional Itô calculus (2009) Preprint].
This paper considers the problem of partially observed optimal control for forward stochastic systems which are driven by Brownian motions and an independent Poisson random measure with a feature that the cost functional is of mean-field type. When all the system coefficients and the objective performance functionals are allowed to be random, possibly non-Markovian, Malliavin calculus is employed to derive a maximum principle for the optimal control of such a system where the adjointprocess is explicitly expressed. We also investigate the mean-field type optimal control problems for systems dr…
