Let V be a vertex operator algebra and m,n be nonnegative integers. We construct an A_n(V)-A_m(V)-bimodule A_{n,m}(V) which determines the action of V from the level m subspace to level n subspace of an admissible V-module. We show how to use A_{n,m}(V) to construct naturally admissible V-modules from A_m(V)-modules. We also determine the structure of A_{n,m}(V) when V is rational.
This paper studies the twisted representations of vertex operator algebras. Let V be a vertex operator algebra and g an automorphism of V of finite order T. For any m,n in (1/T)Z_+, an A_{g,n}(V)-A_{g,m}(V)-bimodule A_{g,n,m}(V) is constructed. The collection of these bimodules determines any admissible g-twisted V-module completely. A Verma type admissible g-twisted V-module is constructed naturally from any A_{g,m}(V)-module. Furthermore, it is shown with the help of bimodule theory that a simple vertex operator algebra V is g-rational if and only if its twisted associative algebra A_g(V) is…
For a vertex operator algebra V, a V-module M and a nonnegative integer n, an A_n(V)-bimodule A_n(M) is constructed and studied. The connection between A_n(M) and intertwining operators are discussed. In the case that V is rational, A_n(M) for irreducible V-module M is given explicitly.
The Slodowy slice is an especially nice slice to a given nilpotent conjugacy class in a semisimple Lie algebra. Premet introduced noncommutative quantizaions of the Poisson algebra of polynomial functions on the Slodowy slice. In this paper, we define and study Harish-Chandra bimodules over Premet's algebras. We apply the technique of Harish-Chandra bimodules to prove a conjecture of Premet concerning primitive ideals, and to construct `noncommutative resolutions' of Slodowy slices via translation functors.
We discuss the structure of the Motzkin algebra $M_k(D)$ by introducing a sequence of idempotents and the basic construction. We show that $\cup_{k\geq 1}M_k(D)$ admits a factor trace if and only if $D\in \{2\cos(π/n)+1|n\geq 3\}\cup [3,\infty)$ and higher commutants of these factors depend on $D$. Then a family of irreducible bimodules over the factors are constructed. A tensor category with $A_n$ fusion rule is obtained from these bimodules.
We investigate a Hopf algebra structure on the cotensor coalgebra associated to a Hopf bimodule algebra which contains universal version of Clifford algebras and quantum groups as examples. It is shown to be the bosonization of the quantum quasi-shuffle algebra built on the space of its right coinvariants. The universal property and a Rota-Baxter algebra structure are established on this new algebra.
Let H be a finite-dimensional Hopf algebra. We give a description of the tensor product of bimodule categories over Rep(H). When the bimodule categories are invertible this description can be given explicitly. We present some consequences of this description in the case H is a pointed Hopf algebra.
For any finite-dimensional Hopf algebra $H$ we construct a group homomorphism $\biga(H)\to \text{BrPic}(\Rep(H))$, from the group of equivalence classes of $H$-biGalois objects to the group of equivalence classes of invertible exact $\Rep(H)$-bimodule categories. We discuss the injectivity of this map. We exemplify in the case $H=T_q$ is a Taft Hopf algebra and for this we classify all exact indecomposable $\Rep(T_q)$-bimodule categories.
This paper is an exposition of the representation theory of vertex operator algebras in terms of associative algebras A_n(V) and their bimodules. A new result on the rationality is given. That is, a simple vertex operator algebra V is rational if and only if its Zhu algebra A(V) is a semisimple associative algebra and each irreducible admissible $V$-module is ordinary.
If H is a finite dimensional Hopf algebra, C. Cibils and M. Rosso found an algebra X having the property that Hopf bimodules over H^* coincide with left X-modules. We find two other algebras, Y and Z, having the same property; namely, Y is the "two-sided crossed product" H^*#(H\otimes H^{op})# H^{* op} and Z is the "diagonal crossed product" (H^*\otimes H^{*op})\bowtie (H\otimes H^{op}) (both concepts are due to F. Hausser and F. Nill). We also find explicit isomorphisms between the algebras X, Y, Z.
We establish relations between Frobenius parts and between flat-dominant dimensions of algebras linked by Frobenius bimodules. This is motivated by the Nakayama conjecture and an approach of Martinez-Villa to the Auslander-Reiten conjecture on stable equivalences. We show that the Frobenius parts of Frobenius extensions are again Frobenius extensions. Further, let $A$ and $B$ be finite-dimensional algebras over a field $k$, and let $\dm(_AX)$ stand for the dominant dimension of an $A$-module $X$. If $_BM_A$ is a Frobenius bimodule, then $\dm(A)\le \dm(_BM)$ and $\dm(B)\le \dm(_A\Hom_B(M, B))$.…
Motivated by the so-called H-cell reduction theorems, we investigate certain classes of bicategories which have only one H-cell apart from possibly the identity. We show that H_0-simple quasi fiab bicategories with unique H-cell H_0 are fusion categories. We further study two classes of non-semisimple quasi-fiab bicategories with a single H-cell apart from the identity. The first is $\cH_A$, indexed by a finite-dimensional radically graded basic Hopf algebra A, and the second is $\cG_A$, consisting of symmetric projective A-A-bimodules. We show that $\cH_A$ can be viewed as a 1-full subbicateg…
The concept of a {\em weight} on a planar algebra was introduced in \cite{DGG}. In this article we give an alternate characterization of weights on a planar algebra in terms of `weight functions' on the vertices of the principal graphs. Using this characterization we show that the property of bifinite bimodules of having a `trivial perturbation class' is closed under Connes fusion. We give a direct and constructive method of perturbing a bifinite bimodule by a positive weight in such a way that the bimodule planar algebra of the perturbed bimodule is isomorphic to the perturbation of the one a…
Soergel bimodules and their Hochschild homology are known to be important in the context of link homology. In this article we observe that Soergel bimodules may be naturally identified as the cohomology of well-defined objects in the category of spectra. This allows us to define forms of Soergel bimodules over the integers after inverting 2, indexed by elements in Braid groups associated to compact Lie groups of adjoint type. Reducing the Soergel bimodules modulo an odd prime, we endow the bimodules with an action of the reduced Steenrod algebra. This action extends to an action of the reduced…
Given a Hopf algebra H, we study modules and bimodules over an algebra A that carry an H-action, as well as their morphisms and connections. Bimodules naturally arise when considering noncommutative analogues of tensor bundles. For quasitriangular Hopf algebras and bimodules with an extra quasi-commutativity property we induce connections on the tensor product over A of two bimodules from connections on the individual bimodules. This construction applies to arbitrary connections, i.e. not necessarily H-equivariant ones, and further extends to the tensor algebra generated by a bimodule and its …
Coactions of Hopf C*-bimodules simultaneously generalize coactions of Hopf C*-algebras and actions of groupoids. Following an approach of Baaj and Skandalis, we construct reduced crossed products and establish a duality for fine coactions. Examples of coactions arise from Fell bundles on groupoids and actions of a groupoid on bundles of C*-algebras. Continuous Fell bundles on an etale groupoid correspond to coactions of the reduced groupoid algebra, and actions of a groupoid on a continuous bundle of C*-algebras correspond to coactions of the function algebra.
We give a criterion for the complete reducibility of modules satisfying a composability condition for a meromorphic open-string vertex algebra $V$ using the first cohomology of the algebra. For a $V$-bimodule $M$, let $\hat{H}^{1}_{\infty}(V, M)$ be the first cohomology of $V$ with the coefficients in $M$. Let $\hat{Z}^{1}_{\infty}(V, M)$ be the subspace of $\hat{H}^{1}_{\infty}(V, M)$ canonically isomorphic to the space of derivations obtained from the zero mode of the right vertex operators of weight $1$ elements such that the difference between the skew-symmetric opposite action of the left…
Let A be a comodule algebra for a finite dimensional Hopf algebra K over an algebraically closed field k, and let A^K be the subalgebra of invariants. Let Z be a central subalgebra in A, which is a domain with quotient field Q. Assume that Q\otimes_Z A is a central simple algebra over Q, and either A is a finitely generated torsion-free Z-module and Z is integrally closed in Q, or A is a finite projective Z-module. Then we show that A and Z are integral over the subring of central invariants Z\cap A^K. More generally, we show that this statement is valid under the same assumptions if Z is a re…
We study a mixed tensor product $\mathbf{3}^{\otimes m} \otimes \mathbf{\overline{3}}^{\otimes n}$ of the three-dimensional fundamental representations of the Hopf algebra $U_{q} s\ell(2|1)$, whenever $q$ is not a root of unity. Formulas for the decomposition of tensor products of any simple and projective $U_{q} s\ell(2|1)$-module with the generating modules $\mathbf{3}$ and $\mathbf{\overline{3}}$ are obtained. The centralizer of $U_{q} s\ell(2|1)$ on the chain is calculated. It is shown to be the quotient $\mathscr{X}_{m,n}$ of the quantum walled Brauer algebra. The structure of projective …
We introduce C*-pseudo-multiplicative unitaries and concrete Hopf C*-bimodules for the study of quantum groupoids in the setting of C*-algebras. These unitaries and Hopf C*-bimodules generalize multiplicative unitaries and Hopf C*-algebras and are analogues of the pseudo-multiplicative unitaries and Hopf--von Neumann-bimod-ules studied by Enock, Lesieur and Vallin. To each C*-pseudo-multiplicative unitary, we associate two Fourier algebras with a duality pairing, a C*-tensor category of representations, and in the regular case two reduced and two universal Hopf C*-bimodules. The theory is illu…
For any finite-dimensional factorizable ribbon Hopf algebra H and any ribbon automorphism omega of H, we establish the existence of the following structure: an H-bimodule F_omega and a bimodule morphism Z_omega from Lyubashenko's Hopf algebra object K for the bimodule category to F_omega. This morphism is invariant under the natural action of the mapping class group of the one-punctured torus on the space of bimodule morphisms from K to F_omega. We further show that the bimodule F_omega can be endowed with a natural structure of a commutative symmetric Frobenius algebra in the monoidal categor…
Given a Hopf algebra A, there exist various cohomology theories for the category of Hopf bimodules over A, introduced by M. Gerstenhaber and S.D. Schack, and by C. Ospel. We prove, when A is finite dimensional, that they are equal to the Ext functor on the module category of an associative algebra associated to A, described by C. Cibils and M. Rosso. We also give an expression for a cup-product in the cohomology defined by C. Ospel, and prove that it corresponds to the Yoneda product of extensions.
Covariant Hom-bimodules are introduced and the structure theory of them in the Hom-setting is studied in a detailed way. The category of bicovariant Hom-bimodules is proved to be a (pre)braided monoidal category and its structure theory is also provided in coordinate form. The notion of Hom-Yetter-Drinfel'd modules is presented and it is shown that the category of Hom-Yetter-Drinfel'd modules is a (pre)braided tensor category as well. As one of the main results, a (pre)braided monoidal equivalence between these tensor categories is verified, which extends the fundamental theorem of Hom-Hopf mo…
We develop further the techniques presented in [M. Mombelli. On the tensor product of bimodule categories over Hopf algebras. Preprint arXiv:1111.1610 ] to study bimodule categories over the representation categories of arbitrary finite-dimensional Hopf algebras. We compute the Brauer-Picard group of equivalence classes of exact invertible bimodule categories over the representation categories of a certain large family of pointed non-semisimple Hopf algebras, the so called supergroup algebras. To obtain this result we first give a classification of equivalence classes of exact indecomposable b…
We systematically study noncommutative and nonassociative algebras A and their bimodules as algebras and bimodules internal to the representation category of a quasitriangular quasi-Hopf algebra. We enlarge the morphisms of the monoidal category of A-bimodules by internal homomorphisms, and describe explicitly their evaluation and composition morphisms. For braided commutative algebras A the full subcategory of symmetric A-bimodule objects is a braided closed monoidal category, from which we obtain an internal tensor product operation on internal homomorphisms. We describe how these structures…
Endomorphisms of Weyl algebras are studied using bimodules. Initially, for a Weyl algebra over a field of characteristic zero, Bernstein's inequality implies that holonomic bimodules finitely generated from the right or left form a monoidal category. The most important bimodule in this paper is the graph of an endomorphism. We prove that the graph of an endomorphism of a Weyl algebra over a field of characteristic zero is a simple bimodule. The simplicity of the tensor product of the dual graph and the graph is equivalent to the Dixmier conjecture. It is also shown how the graph construction l…
Given a Hopf algebra H and an algebra A that is an H-module algebra we consider the category of left H-modules and A-bimodules, where morphisms are just right A-linear maps (not necessarily H-equivariant). Given a twist F of H we then quantize (deform) H to H^F, A to A_\star and correspondingly the category of left H-modules and A-bimodules to the category of left H^F-modules and A_\star-bimodules. If we consider a quasitriangular Hopf algebra H, a quasi-commutative algebra A and quasi-commutative A-bimodules, we can further construct and study tensor products over A of modules and of morphism…
Let $A$ be an algebra over a commutative ring $k$. We prove that braidings on the category of $A$-bimodules are in bijective correspondence to canonical R-matrices, these are elements in $A\ot A\ot A$ satisfying certain axioms. We show that all braidings are symmetries. If $A$ is commutative, then there exists a braiding on ${}_A\Mm_A$ if and only if $k\to A$ is an epimorphism in the category of rings, and then the corresponding $R$-matrix is trivial. If the invariants functor $G = (-)^A:\{}_A\Mm_A\to \Mm_k$ is separable, then $A$ admits a canonical R-matrix; in particular, any Azumaya algebra…
Let H be a bialgebra and D an H-bimodule algebra H-bicomodule coalgebra. We find sufficient conditions on D for the L-R-smash product algebra and coalgebra structures on D\otimes H to form a bialgebra (in this case we say that (H, D) is an L-R-admissible pair), called L-R-smash biproduct. The Radford biproduct is a particular case, and so is, up to isomorphism, a double biproduct with trivial pairing. We construct a prebraided monoidal category {\cal LR}(H), whose objects are H-bimodules H-bicomodules M endowed with left-left and right-right Yetter-Drinfeld module as well as left-right and rig…
We define and study the theory of derivation-based connections on a recently introduced class of bimodules over an algebra which reduces to the category of modules whenever the algebra is commutative. This theory contains, in particular, a noncommutative generalization of linear connections. We also discuss the different noncommutative versions of differential forms based on derivations. Then we investigate reality conditions and a noncommutative generalization of pseudo-riemannian structures.
For Cuntz-Pimsner algebras of bi-Hilbertian bimodules of finite Jones-Watatani index satisfying some side conditions, we give an explicit isomorphism between the $K$-theory exact sequences of the mapping cone of the inclusion of the coefficient algebra into a Cuntz-Pimsner algebra, and the Cuntz-Pimsner exact sequence. In the process we extend some results by the second author and collaborators from finite projective bimodules to finite index bimodules, and also clarify some aspects of Pimsner's `extension of scalars' construction.
The Haagerup approximation property (HAP) is defined for finite von Neumann algebras in such a way that the group von Neumann algebra of a discrete group has the HAP if and only if the group itself has the Haagerup property. The HAP has been studied extensively for finite von Neumann algebras and it is recently generalized for arbitrary von Neumann algebras by Caspers-Skalski and Okayasu-Tomatsu. One of the motivations behind the generalization is the fact that quantum group von Neumann algebras are often infinite even though the Haagerup property has been defined successfully for locally comp…
