We prove that an irreducible quasifinite module over the central extension of the Lie algebra of $N\times N$-matrix differential operators on the circle is either a highest or lowest weight module or else a module of the intermediate series. Furthermore, we give a complete classification of indecomposable uniformly bounded modules.
We classify the quasifinite highest weight modules over a family of subalgebras W_{\infty}^{n} of the central extension W_{1+\infty} of the Lie algebra of differential operators on the circle consisting of operators of order \geq n. We classify the unitary quasifinite highest weight modules over W_{\infty}=W_{\infty}^{1} and realize them in terms of unitary highest weight representations of the Lie algebra of infinite matrices with finitely many non-zero diagonals.
For a nondegenerate additive subgroup $G$ of the $n$-dimensional vector space $F^n$ over an algebraically closed field $F$ of characteristic zero, there is an associative algebra and a Lie algebra of Weyl type $W(G,n)$ spanned by all differential operators $u D_1^{m_1}... D_n^{m_n}$ for $u\in F[G]$ (the group algebra), and $m_1,...,m_n \ge 0$, where $D_1, ...,D_n$ are degree operators. In this paper, it is proved that an irreducible quasifinite $W(\Z,1)$-module is either a highest or lowest weight module or else a module of the intermediate series; furthermore, a classification of uniformly bo…
In this paper, we first construct a Lie algebra $L$ from rank 3 quantum torus, and show that it is isomorphic to the core of EALAs of type $A_1$ with coordinates in rank 2 quantum torus. Then we construct two classes of irreducible ${\bf Z}$-graded highest weight representations, and give the necessary and sufficient conditions for these representations to be quasifinite. Next, we prove that they exhaust all the generalized highest weight irreducible ${\bf Z}$-graded quasifinite representations. As a consequence, we determine all the irreducible ${\bf Z}$-graded quasifinite representations wit…
We show that there are exactly two anti-involution $σ_{\pm}$ of the algebra of differential operators on the circle that are a multiple of $p(t\partial_t)$ preserving the principal gradation ($p\in\CC[x]$ non-constant). We classify the irreducible quasifinite highest weight representations of the central extension $\hat{\D}_p^{\pm}$ of the Lie subalgebra fixed by $-σ_{\pm}$. The most important cases are the subalgebras $\hat{\D}_x^{\pm}$ of $W_{\infty}$, that are obtained when $p(x)=x$. In these cases we realize the irreducible quasifinite highest weight modules in terms of highest weight repr…
Intrigued by a well-known theorem of Mathieu's on Harish-Chandra modules over the Virasoro algebra, we give an analogous result for a class of Block type Lie algebras $\BB$, where the parameter $q$ is a nonzero complex number. We also classify quasifinite irreducible highest weight $\BB$-modules and irreducible $\BB$-modules of the intermediate series. In particular, we obtain that an irreducible $\BB$-module of the intermediate series may be a nontrivial extension of a $\Vir$-module of the intermediate series if $q$ is half of a negative integer, where $\Vir$ is a subalgebra of $\BB$ isomorph…
A well-known theorem of Mathieu's states that a Harish-chandra module over the Virasoro algebra is either a highest weight module, a lowest weight module or a module of the intermediate series. It is proved in this paper that an analogous result also holds for the Lie algebra $\BB$ related to Block type, with basis {L_{\a,i},C|a,i\in\Z, i\ge0} and relations [L_{\a,i},L_{\b,j}]=((i+1)\b-(j+1)\a)L_{\a+\b,i+j}+\d_{\a+\b,0}\d_{i+j,0}\frac{\a^3-\a}{6}C, [C,L_{\a,i}]=0.Namely, an irreducible quasifinite $\BB$-module is either a highest weight module, a lowest weight module or a module of the interme…
It is proved that an irreducible quasifinite $W_\infty$-module is a highest or lowest weight module or a module of the intermediate series; a uniformly bounded indecomposable weight $W_\infty$-module is a module of the intermediate series. For a nondegenerate additive subgroup $G$ of $F^n$, where $F$ is a field of characteristic zero, there is a simple Lie or associative algebra $W(G,n)^{(1)}$ spanned by differential operators $uD_1^{m_1}... D_n^{m_n}$ for $u\in F[G]$ (the group algebra), and $m_i\ge0$ with $\sum_{i=1}^n m_i\ge1$, where $D_i$ are degree operators. It is also proved that an ind…
We show that there are precisely two, up to conjugation, anti-involutions sigma_{\pm} of the algebra of differential operators on the circle preserving the principal gradation. We classify the irreducible quasifinite highest weight representations of the central extension \hat{D}^{\pm} of the Lie subalgebra of this algebra fixed by - sigma_{\pm}, and find the unitary ones. We realize them in terms of highest weight representations of the central extension of the Lie algebra of infinite matrices with finitely many non-zero diagonals over the truncated polynomial algebra C[u] / (u^{m+1}) and its…
Block type Lie algebras have been studied by many authors in the latest twenty years. In this paper, we will study a class of more general Block type Lie algebra $\mathcal{B}(p,q)$, which is a class of infinite-dimensional Lie algebra by using the generalized Balinskii-Novikov's construction method to Witt type Novikov algebra. We study the representation theory for $\mathcal{B}(p,q)$. We classify quasifinite irreducible highest weight $\mathcal{B}(p,q)$-module. We also prove that any quasifinite irreducible module of Block type Lie algebras $\mathcal{B}(p,q)$ is either a highest or lowest wei…
Let B be the Lie algebra with basis {L_{i,j},C|i,j\in Z} and relations [L_{i,j},L_{k,l}]=((j+1)k-i(l+1))L_{i+k,j+l}+iδ_{i,-k}δ_{j+l,-2}C, [C,L_{i,j}]=0. It is proved that an irreducible highest weight B-module is quasifinite if and only if it is a proper quotient of a Verma module. For an additive subgroup G of the base field F, there corresponds to a Lie algebra B(G) of Block type. Given a totalorder \succ on G and a weight Λ, a Verma B(G)-module M(Λ,\succ) is defined. The irreducibility of M(Λ,\succ) is completely determined.
For a field $F$ of characteristic zero and an additive subgroup $G$ of $F$, a Lie algebra $B(G)$ of lock type is defined with basis $\{L_{a,i},c|a \in G, i>-2\}$ and relations $[L_{a,i},L_{b,j}]=((i+1)b-(j+1)a)L_{a+b,i+j}+a\d_{a,-b}\d_{i+j,-2}c, [c,L_{a,i}]=0.$ Given a total order $\succ$ on $G$ compatible with its group structure, and any $Λ\in B(G)_0^*$, a Verma $B(G)$-module $M(Λ,\succ)$ is defined, and the irreducibility of $M(Λ,\succ)$ is completely determined. Furthermore, it is proved that an irreducible highest weight $B(Z)$-module is quasifinite if and only if it is a proper quotient …
Thin coverings are a method of constructing graded-simple modules from simple (ungraded) modules. After a general discussion, we classify the thin coverings of (quasifinite) simple modules over associative algebras graded by finite abelian groups. The classification uses the representation theory of cyclotomic quantum tori. We close with an application to representations of multiloop Lie algebras.
Finite-dimensional subalgebras of a Lie algebra of smooth vector fields on a circle, as well as piecewise-smooth global transformations of a circle on itself, are considered. A canonical forms of realizations of two- and three-dimensional noncommutative algebras are obtained. It is shown that all other realizations of smooth vector fields are reduced to this form using global transformations. Some combinatorial formulas for the number of inequivalent realizations of these algebras are obtained.
Suppose G is a connected, simple, real Lie group with real rank at least two, M is an ergodic G-space with invariant probability measure, and f is a Homeo(T)-valued Borel cocycle, where Homeo(T) denotes the group of homeomorphisms of the circle T. We use an argument of E.Ghys to show that there is a G-invariant probability measure on the skew product of M and T. Furthermore, if the image of f consists of diffeomorphisms, then there is an invariant measure that is equivalent to the product measure; therefore, f is cohomologous to a cocycle with values in the isometry group of T.
Given a vector space with an action of a semi-simple Lie algebra, we can try to "categorify" this representation, which means finding a category where the generators of the Lie algebra act by functors. Such categorical representations arise naturally in geometric representation theory and in modular representation theory of symmetric groups. A framework for studying categorical representations was introduced by Rouquier and Khovanov-Lauda. Their definitions are algebraic/diagrammatic, but are connected to the topology of quiver varieties by the work of Rouquier and Varagnolo-Vasserot. In this …

In this paper, we consider some non-weight modules over the Lie algebra of Weyl type. First, we determine the modules whose restriction to $U(\frak h)$ are free of rank $1$ over the Lie algebra of differential operators on the circle. Then we determine the necessary and sufficient conditions for the tensor products of quasi-finite highest weight modules and $U(\frak h)$-free modules to be irreducible, and obtain that any two such tensor products are isomorphic if and only if the corresponding highest weight modules and $U(\frak h)$-free modules are isomorphic. Finally, we extend such results t…
A unitary representation of a, possibly infinite dimensional, Lie group $G$ is called semi-bounded if the corresponding operators $i\ddπ(x)$ from the derived representations are uniformly bounded from above on some non-empty open subset of the Lie algebra $\g$. In the first part of the present paper we explain how this concept leads to a fruitful interaction between the areas of infinite dimensional convexity, Lie theory, symplectic geometry (momentum maps) and complex analysis. Here open invariant cones in Lie algebras play a central role and semibounded representations have interesting conne…
