We establish the central limit theorem for linear processes with dependent innovations including martingales and mixingale type of assumptions as defined in McLeish [Ann. Probab. 5 (1977) 616--621] and motivated by Gordin [Soviet Math. Dokl. 10 (1969) 1174--1176]. In doing so we shall preserve the generality of the coefficients, including the long range dependence case, and we shall express the variance of partial sums in a form easy to apply. Ergodicity is not required.
In this paper, we formulate and prove new properties of conditional quantiles given one of the particular sigma-fields. Next, we use them to investigate almost sure asymptotic behavior of central order statistics which arise from strictly stationary processes. Specifically we provide a new version of a strong ergodic theorem for central order statistics.
We investigate the connection between conditional local limit theorems and the local time of integer-valued stationary processes. We show that a conditional local limit theorem (at 0) implies the convergence of local times to Mittag-Leffler distributions, both in the weak topology of distributions and a.s. in the space of distributions.
For a class of stationary regularly varying and weakly dependent time series, we prove the so-called complete convergence result for the corresponding space-time point processes. As an application of our main theorem, we give a simple proof of the invariance principle for the corresponding partial maximum process.
We prove a functional central limit theorem for integrals $\int_W f(X(t))\, dt$, where $(X(t))_{t\in\mathbb{R}^d}$ is a stationary mixing random field and the stochastic process is indexed by the function $f$, as the integration domain $W$ grows in Van Hove-sense. We discuss properties of the covariance function of the asymptotic Gaussian process.
The first aim of this paper is to wonder to what extent we can generalize the central limit theorem of Gordin [5] under the so-called L 1-projective criteria to ergodic stationary random fields when completely commuting filtrations are considered. Surprisingly it appears that this result cannot be extended to its full generality and that an additional condition is needed.
This is a survey of recent results on central and non-central limit theorems for quadratic functionals of stationary processes. The underlying processes are Gaussian, linear or Lévy-driven linear processes with memory, and are defined either in discrete or continuous time. We focus on limit theorems for Toeplitz and tapered Toeplitz type quadratic functionals of stationary processes with applications in parametric and nonparametric statistical estimation theory. We discuss questions concerning Toeplitz matrices and operators, Fejér-type singular integrals, and Lévy-Itô-type and Stratonovich-ty…
On a Szego Type Limit Theorem, the Holder-Young-Brascamp-Lieb Inequality, and the Asymptotic Theory of Integrals and Quadratic Forms of Stationary Fields
General Central limit theorem deals with weak limits (in type) of sums of row-elements of array random variables. In some situations as in the invariance principle problem, the sums may include only parts of the row-elements. For strictly stationary arrays (stationary for each row), there is no change to the asymptotic results. But for non-stationary data, especially for dependent data, asymptotic laws of partial sums moving in rows may require extra-conditions to exist. This paper deals with central limit theorems with Gaussian limits for non-stationary data. Our main focus is on dependent da…
We consider "randomized" statistics constructed by using a finite number of observations a random field at randomly chosen points. We generalize the invariance principle (the functional CLT), the Glivenko--Cantelli theorem, the theorem about convergence to the Brownian bridge and the Kolmogorov theorem about the limit distribution of the empirical distribution function, as well as an improved version of the CLT in A. Max-stable random fields are very appropriate for the statistical modelling of spatial extremes. Hence, integrals of functions of max-stable random fields over a given region can play a key role in the assessment of the risk of natural disasters, meaning that it is relevant to improve our understanding of their probabilistic behaviour. For this purpose, in this paper, we propose a general central limit theorem for functions of stationary max-stable random fields on $\mathbb{R}^d$. Then, we show that appropriate functions of the Brown-Resnick random field with a power variogram and of the Smith…
A univariate Hawkes process is a simple point process that is self-exciting and has clustering effect. The intensity of this point process is given by the sum of a baseline intensity and another term that depends on the entire past history of the point process. Hawkes process has wide applications in finance, neuroscience, social networks, criminology, seismology, and many other fields. In this paper, we prove a functional central limit theorem for stationary Hawkes processes in the asymptotic regime where the baseline intensity is large. The limit is a non-Markovian Gaussian process with depe…
In this paper, we give rates of convergence, for minimal distances and for the uniform distance, between the law of partial sums of martingale differences and thelimiting Gaussian distribution. More precisely, denoting by $P_{X}$ the law of a random variable $X$ and by $G_{a}$ the normal distribution ${\mathcal N} (0,a)$, we are interested by giving quantitative estimates for the convergence of $P_{S_n/\sqrt{V_n}}$ to $G_1$, where $S_n$ is the partial sum associated with either martingale differences sequences or more general dependent sequences, and $V_n= {\rm Var}(S_n)$. Applications to line…
In this paper we present some new limit theorems for power variations of stationary increment Lévy driven moving average processes. Recently, such asymptotic results have been investigated in [Ann. Probab. 45(6B) (2017), 4477--4528, Festschrift for Bernt Øksendal, Stochastics 81(1) (2017), 360--383] under the assumption that the kernel function potentially exhibits a singular behaviour at $0$. The aim of this work is to demonstrate how some of the results change when the kernel function has multiple singularity points. Our paper is also related to the article [Stoch. Process. Appl. 125(2) (201…
In this paper, we focus on studying central limit theorems for functionals of some specific stationary random processes. In classical probability theory, it is well-known that for non-linear functionals of stationary Gaussian sequences, we can get a central-limit result via Hermite polynomials and the diagram formula for cumulants. In this paper, the main result is an analogous central limit theorem, in a free probability setting, for real-valued functionals of a stationary semicircular sequence with long-range dependence, namely the correlation function of the underlying time series tends to …
We obtain an elementary invariance principle for multi-dimensional Brownian sheet where the underlying random fields are not necessarily independent or stationary. Possible applications include unit-root tests for spatial as well as panel data models.
This is an extended version of a series of talks I held at the University of Bochum in 2017 about limit theorems for non-linear functionals of stationary Gaussian random fields. The goal of these talks was to give a fairly detailed introduction to the theory leading to such results, even if some of the results are presented without proof. On the other hand, I gave a simpler proof for some of the results. (The proofs omitted from this text can be found in my Springer Lecture Note Multiple Wiener--Ito Integrals. In this note first I discuss the spectral representation of the covariance function …
We consider the Fleming--Viot particle system associated with a continuous-time Markov chain in a finite space. Assuming irreducibility, it is known that the particle system possesses a unique stationary distribution, under which its empirical measure converges to the quasistationary distribution of the Markov chain. We complement this Law of Large Numbers with a Central Limit Theorem. Our proof essentially relies on elementary computations on the infinitesimal generator of the Fleming--Viot particle system, and involves the so-called $π$-return process in the expression of the asymptotic vari…
In this paper we present some new limit theorems for power variation of $k$th order increments of stationary increments Lévy driven moving averages. In the infill asymptotic setting, where the sampling frequency converges to zero while the time span remains fixed, the asymptotic theory gives very surprising results, which (partially) have no counterpart in the theory of discrete moving averages. More specifically, we will show that the first order limit theorems and the mode of convergence strongly depend on the interplay between the given order of the increments, the considered power $p>0$, t…
In this paper we give sufficient conditions for the almost sure central limit theorem started at a point, known under the name of quenched central limit theorem. This is achieved by using a new idea of conditioning with respect to both the past and the future of the Markov chain. As applications we provide a new sufficient projective conditions for the quenched CLT.
A functional limit theorem is established for the partial-sum process of a class of stationary sequences which exhibit both heavy tails and long-range dependence. The stationary sequence is constructed using multiple stochastic integrals with heavy-tailed marginal distribution. Furthermore, the multiple stochastic integrals are built upon a large family of dynamical systems that are ergodic and conservative, leading to the long-range dependence phenomenon of the model. The limits constitute a new class of self-similar processes with stationary increments. They are represented by multiple stabl…
A first-order Liouville theorem is obtained for random ensembles of uniformly parabolic systems under the mere qualitative assumptions of stationarity and ergodicity. Furthermore, the paper establishes, almost surely, an intrinsic large-scale $C^{1,α}$-regularity estimate for caloric functions.
The classical Eagleson's theorem states that if appropriately normalized Birkhoff sums generated by a measurable function and a probability preserving transformation converge in distribution, then they also converge in distribution with respect to any probability measure which is absolutely continuous with respect to the invariant one. In this short note we prove several versions of Eagleson's theorem for some classes of non-stationary stochastic processes which satisfy certain type of decay of correlations.
This paper is a continuation of (Bernoulli 20 (2014) 2169-2216) where we prove a characterization of the support in Hölder norm of the law of the solution to a stochastic wave equation with three-dimensional space variable and null initial conditions. Here, we allow for non-null initial conditions and, therefore, the solution does not possess a stationary property in space. As in (Bernoulli 20 (2014) 2169-2216), the support theorem is a consequence of an approximation result, in the convergence of probability, of a sequence of evolution equations driven by a family of regularizations of the dr…
We consider a class of self-similar, continuous Gaussian processes that do not necessarily have stationary increments. We prove a version of the Breuer-Major theorem for this class, that is, subject to conditions on the covariance function, a generic functional of the process increments converges in law to a Gaussian random variable. The proof is based on the Fourth Moment Theorem. We give examples of five non-stationary processes that satisfy these conditions.
