Kuhn has pointed out to me that the Baum-Connes-Slominska Chern character was described independently in his paper Character rings in algebraic topology, Advances in Homotopy Theory, Proceedings of Cortona 1988, LMS Lecture Note Series 139 (1989), 111--126. See in particular Theorem 6.4, which dates from 1986 and is closely related to the (then new) generalized character theory of Hopkins-Kuhn-Ravenel

Let G be a finite group acting on a finite dimensional real vector space V. We denote by P(V) the projective space associated to V. In this paper we compute in a very explicit way the rank of the equivariant complex K-theory of V and P(V), using previous results by Atiyah and the author. The interest of this computation comes from explicit formulas given by the Baum-Connes-Slominska Chern character and the basic fact that the equivariant K-theory of V is free. We use these topological computations to prove algebraic results like computing the number of conjugacy classes of G which split in a central extension. Our main example is the case where V = R^n and G = the symmetric group of n letters acting on V by permutation of the coordinates. This example is related to the famous pentagonal identity of Euler and (ironically) the Euler-Poincare characteristic of the equivariant K-theory of V.
We exhaustively classify topological equivariant complex vector bundles over two-sphere under a compact Lie group (not necessarily effective) action. It is shown that inequivariant Chern classes and isotropy representations at (at most) three points are sufficient to classify equivariant vector bundles except a few cases. To do it, we calculate equivariant homotopy of the set of equivariant clutching maps. Holomorphic version of this will be treated in other paper. Classification on two-torus, real projective plane, Klein bottle will appear soon.
We classify equivariant topological complex vector bundles over real projective plane under a compact Lie group (not necessarily effective) action. It is shown that nonequivariant Chern classes and isotropy representations at (at most) three points are sufficient to classify equivariant vector bundles over real projective plane except one case. To do it, we relate the problem to classification on two-sphere through the covering map because equivariant vector bundles over two-sphere have been already classified.
In the paper, we introduce the terminology equivariant pointwise clutching map. By using this, we give details on how to glue an equivariant vector bundle over a finite set so as to obtain a new Lie group representation such that the quotient map from the bundle to the representation is equivariant. Then, we investigate the topology of the set of all equivariant pointwise clutching maps with respect to an equivariant vector bundle over a finite set. Results of the paper play a key role in classifying equivariant vector bundles over two-surfaces in other papers.
We exhaustively classify topological equivariant complex vector bundles over two-torus under a compact Lie group (not necessarily effective) action. It is shown that inequivariant Chern classes and isotropy representations at (at most) six points are sufficient to classify equivariant vector bundles except a few cases. To do it, we calculate homotopy of the set of equivariant clutching maps. And, classification on real projective plane, Klein bottle will appear soon
Given a fiber bundle of GKM spaces, $π\colon M\to B$, we analyze the structure of the equivariant $K$-ring of $M$ as a module over the equivariant $K$-ring of $B$ by translating the fiber bundle, $π$, into a fiber bundle of GKM graphs and constructing, by combinatorial techniques, a basis of this module consisting of $K$-classes which are invariant under the natural holonomy action on the $K$-ring of $M$ of the fundamental group of the GKM graph of $B$. We also discuss the implications of this result for fiber bundles $π\colon M\to B$ where $M$ and $B$ are generalized partial flag varieties an…
Let $G$ be an infinite discrete group and let $\underline{E}G$ be a classifying space for proper actions of $G$. Every $G$-equivariant vector bundle over $\underline{E}G$ gives rise to a compatible collection of representations of the finite subgroups of $G$. We give the first examples of groups $G$ with a cocompact classifying space for proper actions $\underline{E}G$ admitting a compatible collection of representations of the finite subgroups of $G$ that does not come from a $G$-equivariant (virtual) vector bundle over $\underline{E}G$. This implies that the Atiyah-Hirzeburch spectral sequen…
A duality is discussed for Lie group bundles vs. certain tensor categories with non-simple identity, in the setting of Nistor-Troitsky gauge-equivariant K-theory. As an application, we study C*-algebra bundles with fibre a fixed-point algebra of the Cuntz algebra: a classification is given, and a cohomological invariant is assigned, representing the obstruction to perform an embedding into a continuous bundle of Cuntz algebras. Finally, we introduce the notion of twisted equivariant K-theory.
We consider Γ-equivariant principal G-bundles over proper Γ-CW-complexes with prescribed family of local representations. We construct and analyze their classifying spaces for locally compact, second countable topological groups with finite covering dimension Γand G such that G is almost connected.
We define equivariant projective unitary stable bundles as the appropriate twists when defining K-theory as sections of bundles with fibers the space of Fredholm operators over a Hilbert space. We construct universal equivariant projective unitary stable bundles for the orbit types, and we use a specific model for these local universal spaces in order to glue them to obtain a universal equivariant projective unitary stable bundle for discrete and proper actions. We determine the homotopy type of the universal equivariant projective unitary stable bundle, and we show that the isomorphism classe…
We give an explicit decription for univeral principal U(r)-bundles with periodic map by means of equivariant Stiefel manifolds. We then show that the associated equivariant vector bundle is equivalent to the canonical one given by G. Segal. Finally, we investigate some ideals involved in the equivariant K-theory of this classifying space.
We provide several results on the existence of metrics of non-negative sectional curvature on vector bundles over certain cohomogeneity one manifolds and homogeneous spaces up to suitable stabilization. Beside explicit constructions of the metrics, this is achieved by identifying equivariant structures upon these vector bundles via a comparison of their equivariant and non-equivariant K-theory. For this, in particular, we transcribe equivariant K-theory to equivariant rational cohomology and investigate surjectivity properties of induced maps in the Borel fibration via rational homotopy theory…
A generalisation of the equivariant Dixmier-Douady invariant is constructed as a second-degree cohomology class within a new semi-equivariant Čech cohomology theory. This invariant obstructs liftings of semi-equivariant principal bundles that are associated to central exact sequences of structure groups in which each structure group is acted on by the equivariance group. The results and methods described can be applied to the study of complex vector bundles equipped with linear/anti-linear actions, such as Atiyah's Real vector bundles.
We interpret certain equivariant Kasparov groups as equivariant representable K-theory groups. We compute these groups via a classifying space and as K-theory groups of suitable sigma-C*-algebras. We also relate equivariant vector bundles to these sigma-C*-algebras and provide sufficient conditions for equivariant vector bundles to generate representable K-theory. Mostly we work in the generality of locally compact groupoids with Haar system.
We give a construction for twisted equivariant K-theory in the case of a proper action of a discrete group using twisted bundles. Our construction uses results of Lueck and Oliver to extend a construction of Adem and Ruan. We also show the existence of a Chern character to twisted Bredon cohomology. This gives a partial answer to the question of when you can construct twisted equivariant K-theory out of finite rank twisted bundles.
In a previous paper we have introduced the gauge-equivariant K-theory group of a bundle endowed with a continuous action of a bundle of compact Lie groups. These groups are the natural range for the analytic index of a family of gauge-invariant elliptic operators (i.e. a family of elliptic operators invariant with respect to the action of a bundle of compact groups). In this paper, we continue our study of gauge-equivariant K-theory. In particular, we introduce and study products, which helps us establish the Thom isomorphism in gauge-equivariant K-theory. Then we construct push-forward maps a…
In this paper we define twisted equivariant K-theory for actions of Lie groupoids. For a Bredon-compatible Lie groupoid, this defines a periodic cohomology theory on the category of finite CW-complexes with equivariant stable projective bundles. A classification of these bundles is shown. We also obtain a completion theorem and apply these results to proper actions of groups.
Let $\Uq$ be a quantum group. Regarding a (noncommutative) space with $\Uq$-symmetry as a $\Uq$-module algebra $A$, we may think of equivariant vector bundles on $A$ as projective $A$-modules with compatible $\Uq$-action. We construct an equivariant K-theory of such quantum vector bundles using Quillen's exact categories, and provide means for its compution. The equivariant K-groups of quantum homogeneous spaces and quantum symmetric algebras of classical type are computed.
In this work the equivariant signature of a manifold with proper action of a discrete group is defined as an invariant of equivariant bordisms. It is shown that the computation of this signature can be reduced to its computation on fixed points sets equipped with their tubular neighborhoods. It is given a description of the equivariant vector bundles with action of a discrete group $G$ for the case when the action over the base is proper quasi-free, i.e. the stationary subgroup of any point is finite. The description is given in terms of some classifying space.
We survey work by the author and Ralf Meyer on equivariant KK-theory. Duality plays a key role in our approach. We organize the survey around the objective of computing a certain homotopy-invariant of a space equipped with a proper action of a group or groupoid called the Lefschetz map. The Lefschetz map associates an equivariant K-homology class to an equivariant Kasparov self-morphism of a space X admitting a dual. We want to describe it explicitly in the setting of bundles of smooth manifolds over the base space of a proper groupoid, in which groupoid elements act by diffeomorphisms between…
C*-endomorphisms arising from superselection structures with non-trivial centre define a 'rank' and a 'first Chern class'. Crossed products by such endomorphisms involve the Cuntz-Pimsner algebra of a vector bundle having the above-mentioned rank and first Chern class, and can be used to construct a duality for abstract (nonsymmetric) tensor categories vs. group bundles acting on (nonsymmetric) Hilbert bimodules. Existence and unicity of the dual object (i.e., the 'gauge' group bundle) are not ensured: we give a description of this phenomenon in terms of a certain moduli space associated with …
The smooth action of a compact Lie group on a compact manifold can be resolved to an iterated space, as made explicit by Pierre Albin and the second author. On the resolution the lifted action has fixed isotropy type corresponding to the open stratum and also in an iterated sense, with connecting equivariant fibrations over the boundary hypersurfaces covering the resolutions of the other strata. This structure descends to a resolution of the quotient as a stratified space. For an Abelian group action the equivariant K-theory can then be described in terms of bundles over the bases `dressed' by…
