In a previous paper we have introduced the gauge-equivariant K-theory group of a bundle endowed with a continuous action of a bundle of compact Lie groups. These groups are the natural range for the analytic index of a family of gauge-invariant elliptic operators (i.e. a family of elliptic operators invariant with respect to the action of a bundle of compact groups). In this paper, we continue our study of gauge-equivariant K-theory. In particular, we introduce and study products, which helps us establish the Thom isomorphism in gauge-equivariant K-theory. Then we construct push-forward maps and define the topological index of a gauge-invariant family.
Using a smooth version of the Connes--Thom isomorphism in Grensing's bivariant K-theory for locally convex algebras, we prove an equivariant version of the Connes--Thom isomorphism in periodic cyclic homology. As an application, we prove that periodic cyclic homology is invariant with respect to equivariant strict deformation quantization.
We develop equivariant KK-theory for locally compact groupoid actions by Morita equivalences on real and complex graded C*-algebras. Functoriality with respect to generalised morphisms and Bott periodicity are discussed. We introduce Stiefel-Whitney classes for real or complex equivariant vector bundles over locally compact groupoids to establish the Thom isomorphism theorem in twisted groupoid K-theory.
Let $A \in M_{n}(\mathbb{R})$ be an invertible matrix. Consider the semi-direct product $\mathbb{R}^{n} \rtimes \mathbb{Z}$ where $\mathbb{Z}$ acts on $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ by matrix multiplication. Consider a strongly continuous action $(α,τ)$ of $\mathbb{R}^{n} \rtimes \mathbb{Z}$ on a $C^{*}$-algebra $B$ where $α$ is a strongly continuous action of $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ and $τ$ is an automorphism. The map $τ$ induces a map $\widetildeτ$ on $B \rtimes_α \mathbb{R}^{n}$. We show that, at the $K$-theory level, $τ$ commutes with the Connes-Thom map if $\det(A)>0$ and anticommutes if $\det(A)<0$. As an ap…
We give a simple proof of the smooth Thom isomorphism for complex bundles for the bivariant K-theories on locally convex algebras considered by Cuntz. We also prove the Thom isomorphism in Kasparov's KK-theory in a form stated without proof in the conspectus. Along the way, we prove Bott periodicity directly on R^n, using for the Kasparov product the operator that also appears in recent work of Wulkenhaar on non-compact spectral triples with finite volume, and which may be seen as a unitalisation of the Dirac-element.
An equivariant Thom isomorphism theorem in operator K-theory is formulated and proven for infinite rank Euclidean vector bundles over finite dimensional Riemannian manifolds. The main ingredient in the argument is the construction of a non-commutative C*-algebra associated to a bundle E -> M, equipped with a compatible connection, which plays the role of the algebra of functions on the infinite dimensional total space E. If the base M is a point, we obtain the Bott periodicity isomorphism theorem of Higson-Kasparov-Trout for infinite dimensional Euclidean spaces. The construction applied to an…
Equivariant T-duality triples of locally compact abelian groups are considered. The motivating example dealing with the group $\R^n$ containing a lattice $\Z^n$ comes with an isomorphism in twisted equivariant K-theory.
We show that a triangulated motivic category admits categorical Thom isomorphisms for vector bundles with an additional structure if and only if the generalized motivic cohomology theory represented by the tensor unit object admits Thom classes. We also show that the stable $\mathbb{A}^1$-derived category does not admit Thom isomorphisms for oriented vector bundles and, more generally, for symplectic bundles. In order to do so we compute the first homology sheaves of the motivic sphere spectrum and show that the class in the coefficient ring of $\mathbb{A}^1$-homology corresponding to the seco…
Using an equivariant version of Connes' Thom Isomorphism,w}e prove that equivariant $K$-theory is invariant under strict deformation quantization for a compact Lie group action.
Based on Morse theory for the energy functional on path spaces we develop a deformation theory for mapping spaces of spheres into orthogonal groups. This is used to show that these mapping spaces are weakly homotopy equivalent, in a stable range, to mapping spaces associated to orthogonal Clifford representations. Given an oriented Euclidean bundle $V \to X$ of rank divisible by four over a finite complex $X$ we derive a stable decomposition result for vector bundles over the sphere bundle $\mathord{\mathbb S}( \mathbb{R} \oplus V)$ in terms of vector bundles and Clifford module bundles over $…
We establish the Thom isomorphism in twisted K-theory for any real vector bundle and develop the push-forward map in twisted K-theory for any differentiable proper map $f: X\to Y$ (not necessarily K-oriented). The push-forward map generalizes the push-forward map in ordinary K-theory for any $K$-oriented differentiable proper map and the Atiyah-Singer index theorem of Dirac operators on Clifford modules. For $D$-branes satisfying Freed-Witten's anomaly cancellation condition in a manifold with a non-trivial $B$-field, we associate a canonical element in the twisted K-group to get the so-called…
We prove the deformation invariance of the quantum homogeneous spaces of the q-deformation of simply connected simple compact Lie groups over the Poisson-Lie quantum subgroups, in the equivariant KK-theory with respect to the translation action by maximal tori. This extends a result of Neshveyev-Tuset to the equivariant setting. As applications, we prove the ring isomorphism of the K-group of Gq with respect to the coproduct of C(Gq), and an analogue of the Borsuk-Ulam theorem for quantum spheres.
The purpose of this paper is to prove an equivariant Riemann-Roch theorem for schemes or algebraic spaces with an action of a linear algebraic group $G$. For a $G$-space $X$, this theorem gives an isomorphism between a completion of the equivariant Grothendieck group and a completion of equivariant equivariant Chow groups. The key to proving this isomorphism is a geometric description of completions of the equivariant Grothendieck group. Besides Riemann-Roch, this result has some purely $K$-theoretic applications. In particular, we prove a conjecture of Köck (in the case of regular schemes) an…
We study several duality isomorphisms between equivariant bivariant K-theory groups, generalising Kasparov's first and second Poincare duality isomorphisms. We use the first duality to define an equivariant generalisation of Lefschetz invariants of generalised self-maps. The second duality is related to the description of bivariant Kasparov theory for commutative C*-algebras by families of elliptic pseudodifferential operators. For many groupoids, both dualities apply to a universal proper G-space. This is a basic requirement for the dual Dirac method and allows us to describe the Baum-Connes …
Let G be a compact Lie-group, X a compact G-CW-complex. We define equivariant geometric K-homology groups K^G_*(X), using an obvious equivariant version of the (M,E,f)-picture of Baum-Douglas for K-homology. We define explicit natural transformations to and from equivariant K-homology defined via KK-theory (the "official" equivariant K-homology groups) and show that these are isomorphism.
Freed, Hopkins and Teleman constructed an isomorphism between twisted equivariant K-theory of compact Lie group $G$ and the "Verlinde ring" of the loop group of $G$. We call this isomorphism FHT isomorphism. However, it does not hold naturality with respect to group homomorphisms. We construct two "quasi functors" $t.e.K$ (a modification of twisted equivariant K-theory) and $RL$ (a modification of representation group of loop groups) so that FHT isomorphism is natural transformation between two "quasi functors" for tori, that is, we construct two "induced homomorphisms" of the "quasi functors"…
We use correspondences to define a purely topological equivariant bivariant K-theory for spaces with a proper groupoid action. Our notion of correspondence differs slightly from that of Connes and Skandalis. We replace smooth K-oriented maps by a class of K-oriented normal maps, which are maps together with a certain factorisation. Our construction does not use any special features of equivariant K-theory. To highlight this, we construct bivariant extensions for arbitrary equivariant multiplicative cohomology theories. We formulate necessary and sufficient conditions for certain duality isomor…
In this note we extend the classical result by G. G. Kasparov that the Kasparov groups $KK_1(A,B)$ can be identified with the extension groups $\mbox{Ext}(A,B)$ to the inverse semigroup equivariant setting. More precisely, we show that $KK_G^1(A,B) \cong \mbox{Ext}_G(A \otimes {\cal K}_G,B \otimes {\cal K}_G)$ for every countable, $E$-continuous inverse semigroup $G$. For locally compact second countable groups $G$ this was proved by K. Thomsen, and technically this note presents an adaption of his proof.
Recall that Tamarkin's construction arXiv:math/9803025, arXiv:math/0003052 gives us a map from the set of Drinfeld associators to the set of homotopy classes of L-infinity quasi-isomorphisms for Hochschild cochains of a polynomial algebra. Due to results of V. Drinfeld (Algebra i Analiz 2, (1990)) and T. Willwacher arXiv:1009.1654 both the source and the target of this map are equipped with natural actions of the Grothendieck-Teichmueller group $GRT_1$. In this paper, we use the result from arXiv:1305.4699 to prove that this map from the set of Drinfeld associators to the set of homotopy class…
For G a finite group and X a G-space on which a normal subgroup A acts trivially, we show that the G-equivariant K-theory of X decomposes as a direct sum of twisted equivariant K-theories of X parametrized by the orbits of the conjugation action of G on the irreducible representations of A. The twists are group 2-cocycles which encode the obstruction of lifting an irreducible representation of A to the subgroup of G which fixes the isomorphism class of the irreducible representation.
We prove a localization formula in equivariant algebraic $K$-theory for an arbitrary complex algebraic group acting with finite stabilizer on a smooth algebraic space. This extends to non-diagonalizable groups the localization formulas H.A. Nielsen in equivariant $K$-theory of vector bundles and R.W. Thomason for higher $K$-theory of equivariant coherent sheaves. As an application we give a Riemann-Roch formula for quotients of smooth algebraic spaces by proper group actions. This formula extends previous work of B. Toen for stacks with quasi-projective moduli spaces and the authors for quotie…
We establish the twisted crystallographic T-duality, which is an isomorphism between Freed-Moore twisted equivariant K-groups of the position and momentum tori associated to an extension of a crystallographic group. The proof is given by identifying the map with the Dirac homomorphism in twisted Chabert--Echterhoff KK-theory. We also illustrate how to exploit it in K-theory computations.
This is the second in a series of papers investigating the relationship between the twisted equivariant K-theory of a compact Lie group G and the "Verlinde ring" of its loop group. We introduce the Dirac family of Fredholm operators associated to a positive energy representation of a loop group. It determines a map from isomorphism classes of representations to twisted K-theory, which we prove is an isomorphism if $G$ is connected with torsion-free fundamental group. We also introduce a Dirac family for finite dimensional representations of compact Lie groups; it is closely related to both the…
