We study special values of L-functions of elliptic curves over Q twisted by Artin representations that factor through a false Tate curve extension $Q(μ_p^\infty,\sqrt[p^\infty]{m})/Q$. In this setting, we explain how to compute L-functions and the corresponding Iwasawa-theoretic invariants of non-abelian twists of elliptic curves. Our results provide both theoretical and computational evidence for the main conjecture of non-commutative Iwasawa theory.
We prove a `Weierstrass Preparation Theorem' and develop an explicit descent formalism in the context of Whitehead groups of non-commutative Iwasawa algebras. We use these results to describe the precise connection between the main conjecture of non-commutative Iwasawa theory (in the sense of Coates, Fukaya, Kato, Sujatha and Venjakob) and the equivariant Tamagawa number conjecture. The latter result is both a converse to a theorem of Fukaya and Kato and also provides an important means of deriving explicit consequences of the main conjecture.
We discuss the formalism of Iwasawa theory descent in the setting of the localized K_1-groups of Fukaya and Kato. We then prove interpolation formulas for the `leading terms' of the global Zeta isomorphisms that are associated to certain Tate motives and of the p-adic L-functions that are associated to certain critical motives.
We establish the Iwasawa main conjecture for semi-stable abelian varieties over a function field of characteristic $p$ under certain restrictive assumptions. Namely we consider $p$-torsion free $p$-adic Lie extensions of the base field which contain the constant $\mathbb Z_p$-extension and are everywhere unramified. Under the classical $μ=0$ hypothesis we give a proof which mainly relies on the interpretation of the Selmer complex in terms of $p$-adic cohomology [TV] together with the trace formulas of [EL1].
We formulate and prove an analogue of the non-commutative Iwasawa Main Conjecture for $\ell$-adic representations of the Galois group of a function field of characteristic $p$. We also prove a functional equation for the resulting non-commutative $L$-functions. As corollaries, we obtain non-commutative generalisations of the main conjecture for Picard-$1$-motives of Greither and Popescu and a main conjecture for abelian varieties over function fields in precise analogy to the $\operatorname{GL}_2$ main conjecture of Coates, Fukaya, Kato, Sujatha and Venjakob.
It is well known that, for any finitely generated torsion module M over the Iwasawa algebra Z_p [[Γ ]], where Γ is isomorphic to Z_p, there exists a continuous p-adic character ρ of Γ such that, for every open subgroup U of Γ, the group of U-coinvariants M(ρ)_U is finite; here M( ρ) denotes the twist of M by ρ. This twisting lemma was already applied to study various arithmetic properties of Selmer groups and Galois cohomologies over a cyclotomic tower by Greenberg and Perrin-Riou. We prove a non commutative generalization of this twisting lemma replacing torsion modules over Z_p [[ Γ ]] by ce…
We formulate a new equivariant Main Conjecture in Iwasawa theory of number fields and study its properties. This is done for arbitrary one-dimensional $p$-adic Lie extensions $L_\infty/K$ containing the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension $K_\infty$ of the base field. As opposed to existing conjectures in the area, no requirement that $L_\infty/K$ be abelian or that $L_\infty$ be totally real is imposed. We prove the independence of the Main Conjecture of essentially all of its parameters and explore its functorial behaviour. It is furthermore shown that, to a large extent, this new conjecture…
The aim of the present paper is to give evidence, largely numerical, in support of the non-commutative main conjecture of Iwasawa theory for the motive of a primitive modular form of weight k>2 over the Galois extension of Q obtained by adjoining to Q all p-power roots of unity, and all p-power roots of a fixed integer m>1. The predictions of the main conjecture are rather intricate in this case because there is more than one critical point, and also there is no canonical choice of periods. Nevertheless, our numerical data agrees perfectly with all aspects of the main conjecture, including Kat…
In this paper, we prove the Iwasawa main conjecture of totally real fields for certain specific non-commutative $p$-adic Lie extensions, using the integral logarithms introduced by Oliver and Taylor. Our result gives certain generalization of Kazuya Kato's proof of the main conjecture for Galois extensions of Heisenberg type.
We give a survey on the relationship between non-commutative Iwasawa theory and the Equivariant Tamagawa Number Conjecture following the work of (in alphabetical order) Burns/Flach, Coates/Sujatha, Fukaya/Kato, Huber/Kings and others.
In this article I generalise previous computations (by K. Kato, T. Hara and myself) of K_1 (only up to p-power torsion) of p-adic group rings of finite non-abelian p-groups in terms of p-adic group rings of abelian subquotients of the group. Such computation have applications in non-commutative Iwasawa theory due to a strategy proposed by D. Burns, K. Kato (and a modification by T. Hara) for deducing non-commutative main conjectures from commutative main conjectures and certain congruences between special L-values. However, I do not say anything about Iwasawa theory in this article. The detail…
It is well known that given a finitely generated torsion module $M$ over the Iwasawa algebra $\mathbb Z_p[[Γ]]$, where $Γ\cong \mathbb Z_p$, there exists a continuous $p$-adic character $ρ$ of $Γ$ such that, for the twist $M(ρ)$ of $M$, the $Γ_n := Γ^{p^n}$ Euler characteristic, i.e. $χ(Γ_n, M(ρ))$, is finite for every $n$. We prove a generalization of this result by considering modules over the Iwasawa algebra of a general $p$-adic Lie group $G$, instead of $Γ$. We relate this twisted Euler characteristic to the evaluation of the {\it Akashi series} at the twist and in turn use it to indicate…
In this short note we partially answer a question of Fukaya and Kato by constructing a $q$-expansion with coefficients in a non-commutative Iwasawa algebra whose constant term is a non-commutative p-adic zeta function.
This paper contains a complete proof of Fukaya's and Kato's epsilon$-isomorphism conjecture in [23] for invertible Λ-modules (the case of V = V_0(r) where V_0 is unramified of dimension 1). Our results rely heavily on Kato's unpublished proof of (commutative) epsilon-isomorphisms for one dimensional representations of G_{Q_p} in [27], but apart from fixing some sign-ambiguities in (loc.\ cit.) we use the theory of (ϕ,Γ)-modules instead of syntomic cohomology. Also, for the convenience of the reader we give a slight modification or rather reformulation of it in the language of [23] and extend i…
Let $Λ$ (isomorphic to $\mathbb{Z}_p[[T]]$) denote the usual Iwasawa algebra and $G$ denote the Galois group of a finite Galois extension $L/K$ of totally real fields. When the non-primitive Iwasawa module over the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension has a free resolution of length one over the group ring $Λ[G]$, we prove that the validity of the non-commutative Iwasawa main conjecture allows us to find a representative for the non-primitive $p$-adic $L$-function (which is an element of a $K_1$-group) in a maximal $Λ$-order. This integrality result involves a careful study of the Dieudonné det…
We prove a slight generalization of Iwasawa's `Riemann-Hurwitz' formula for number fields and use it to generalize Ferrero's and Kida's well-known computations of Iwasawa λ-invariants for the cyclotomic Z_2-extensions of imaginary quadratic number fields. In particular, we show that if p is a Fermat prime, then similar computations of Iwasawa λ-invariants hold for certain imaginary quadratic extensions of the unique subfield k of Q(ζ_{p^2}) such that [k:Q] = p. In fact, we actually prove more by explicitly computing cohomology groups of principal ideals. The computation of lambda invariants ob…
In this paper we use ideas of the non-abelian Iwasawa main conjecture to prove a result about the first Galois cohomology of continuous Galois modules V_p(j) for large Tate-twist j and V_p a Q_p vector space. We show that under a technical hypothesis that H^1(K, V_p(j)) is generated by twists of norm-compatible units in an infinite tower of number fields with elements in V_p(j-1). This confirms a consequence of the non-abelian Iwasawa main conjecture. Using the "Bloch-Kato-conjecture" a similar result is proven for motivic cohomology with finite coefficients.
We give two algorithms to compute layers of the anticyclotomic ${\bf Z}_3$-extension of an imaginary quadratic field. The first is based on complex multiplication techniques for nonmaximal orders; the second is based on Kummer theory. As an illustration of our results, we use the mirroring principle to derive results on the structure of class groups of nonmaximal orders.
We prove a unicity result for the $L$-functions appearing in the non-commutative Iwasawa main conjecture over totally real fields. We then consider continuous representations $ρ$ of the absolute Galois group of a totally real field $F$ on adic rings in the sense of Fukaya and Kato. Using our unicity result, we show that there exists a unique sensible definition of a non-commutative $L$-function for any such $ρ$ that factors through the Galois group of a possibly infinite totally real extension. We also consider the case of CM-extensions and discuss the relation with the equivariant main conjec…
The goal of this paper is to illustrate different approaches to understand Euler characteristics in the setting of totally real commutative and non-commutative Iwasawa theory. In addition to this, and in the spirit of Hesselholt and Mitchell, we show how these objects interact with homotopy theoretic invariants such as ($K(1)$-local) $K$-theory and Topological Cyclic homology.
In arXiv:math/0404297 a non-commutative Iwasawa Main Conjecture for elliptic curves over $\mathbb{Q}$ has been formulated. In this note we show that it holds for all CM-elliptic curves $E$ defined over $\mathbb{Q}$. This was claimed in (loc.\ cit.) without proof, which we want to provide now assuming that the torsion conjecture holds in this case. Based on this we show firstly the existence of the (non-commutative) $p$-adic $L$-function of $E$ and secondly that the (non-commutative) Main Conjecture follows from the existence of the Katz-measure, the work of Yager and Rubin's proof of the 2-var…
Let $p$ be an odd prime and $F_{\infty,\infty}$ a $p$-adic Lie extension of a number field $F$ with Galois group isomorphic to $\mathbb{Z}_p^r\rtimes\mathbb{Z}_p$, $r\geq 1$. Under certain assumptions, we prove an asymptotic formula for the growth of $p$-exponents of the class groups in the said $p$-adic Lie extension. This generalizes a previous result of Lei, where he establishes such a formula in the case $r=1$. An important and new ingredient towards extending Lei's result rests on an asymptotic formula for a finitely generated (not necessarily torsion) $\mathbb{Z}_p[[\mathbb{Z}_p^r]]$-mod…
In this paper we show how one can combine the p-adic Rankin-Selberg product construction of Hida with freeness results of Hecke modules of Wiles to establish interesting congruences between special values of L-functions. These congruences is a part of some deep conjectural congruences that follow from the work of Kato on the non-commutative Iwasawa theory of the false Tate curve extension.
This paper aims at studying the Iwasawa $λ$-invariant of the $p$-primary Selmer group. We study the growth behaviour of $p$-primary Selmer groups in $p$-power degree extensions over non-cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extensions of a number field. We prove a generalization of Kida's formula in such a case. Unlike the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension, where all primes are finitely decomposed; in the $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extensions we consider, primes may be infinitely decomposed. In the second part of the paper, we study the relationship for Iwasawa invariants with respect to congruences, obtaining refi…

We construct the p-adic zeta function for a one-dimensional (as a p-adic Lie extension) non-commutative p-extension of a totally real number field such that the finite part of its Galois group is a pgroup with exponent p. We first calculate the Whitehead groups of the Iwasawa algebra and its canonical Ore localisation by using Oliver-Taylor's theory upon integral logarithms. This calculation reduces the existence of the non-commutative p-adic zeta function to certain congruence conditions among abelian p-adic zeta pseudomeasures. Then we finally verify these congruences by using Deligne-Ribet'…
We prove the transfer congruence between $p$-adic Hecke $L$-functions for CM fields over cyclotomic extensions, which is a non-abelian generalization of the Kummer's congruence. The ingredients of the proof include the comparison between Hilbert modular varieties, the $q$-expansion principle, and some modification of Hsieh's Whittaker model for Katz' Eisenstein series. As a first application, we prove explicit congruence between special values of Hasse-Weil $L$-function of a CM elliptic curve twisted by Artin representations. As a second application, we prove the existence of a non-commutative…
In this work we prove congruences between special values of elliptic curves with CM that seem to play a central role in the analytic side of the non-commutative Iwasawa theory. These congruences are the analogue for elliptic curves with CM of those proved by Kato, Ritter and Weiss for the Tate motive. The proof is based on the fact that the critical values of elliptic curves with CM, or what amounts to the same, the critical values of Grössencharacters, can be expressed as values of Hilbert-Eisenstein series at CM points. We believe that our strategy can be generalized to provide congruences f…
In this work we prove the so-called "torsion congruences" between abelian $p$-adic $L$-functions that are related to automorphic representations of definite unitary groups. These congruences play a central role in the non-commutative Iwasawa theory as it became clear in the works of Kakde, Ritter and Weiss on the non-abelian Main Conjecture for the Tate motive. We tackle these congruences for a general definite unitary group of $n$ variables and we obtain more explicit results in the special cases of $n=1$ and $n=2$. In both of these cases we also explain their implications for some particular…
A sumset semigroup is a non-cancellative commutative monoid obtained from the sumset of finite non-negative integer sets. In this work, an algorithm for computing the ideals associated with some sumset semigroups is provided. Using these ideals, we study some factorization properties of sumset semigroups and some additive properties of sumsets. This approach links computational commutative algebra with additive number theory.
