We first define the notion of good filtration dimension and Weyl filtration dimension in a quasi-hereditary algebra. We calculate these dimensions explicitly for all irreducible modules in SL_2 and SL_3. We use these to show that the global dimension of a Schur algebra for GL_2 and GL_3 is twice the good filtration dimension. To do this for SL_3, we give an explicit filtration of the modules \nabla(λ) by modules of the form \nabla(μ)^F \otimes L(ν) where μis a dominant weight and νis p-restricted.
We extend the family of classical Schur algebras in type A, which determine the polynomial representation theory of general linear groups over an infinite field, to a larger family, the rational Schur algebras, which determine the rational representation theory of general linear groups over an infinite field. This makes it possible to study the rational representation theory of such general linear groups directly through finite dimensional algebras. We show that rational Schur algebras are quasihereditary over any field, and thus have finite global dimension. We obtain explicit cellular bases …
We compute explicitly the submodule structure of the Young modules for symmetric groups $S_n$ over fields of characteristic 2, when $n \le 7$. We use this information to compute the submodule structure of indecomposable projectives for the corresponding Schur algebras when $n \le 5$, and we give give partial information when n=6,7, including the Gabriel quiver and the structure of the Weyl modules. We resolve all Morita equivalences between blocks of these algebras.
We prove Schur--Weyl duality between the Brauer algebra $\mathfrak{B}_n(m)$ and the orthogonal group $O_{m}(K)$ over an arbitrary infinite field $K$ of odd characteristic. If $m$ is even, we show that each connected component of the orthogonal monoid is a normal variety; this implies that the orthogonal Schur algebra associated to the identity component is a generalized Schur algebra. As an application of the main result, an explicit and characteristic-free description of the annihilator of $n$-tensor space $V^{\otimes n}$ in the Brauer algebra $mathfrak{B}_n(m)$ is also given.
We obtain Schur-Weyl dualities in which the algebras, acting on both sides, are semigroup algebras of various symmetric inverse semigroups and their deformations.
Extended zigzag Schur algebras are quasi-hereditary algebras which are conjecturally Morita equivalent to RoCK blocks of classical Schur algebras. We prove that extended zigzag Schur algebras are Ringel self-dual.
We provide a combinatorial characterization of two-sided cells in modified $\imath$quantum groups of type AIII. Our approach is to lift a corresponding description of two-sided cells in $\jmath$-Schur algebras associated to Iwahori--Hecke algebras of type $B$. We further give a combinatorial description of two-sided cells in other two kinds of Schur-type algebras, namely $\imath$-Schur algebras and $\tilde{\imath}$-Schur algebras.
We establish explicit isomorphisms of two seemingly-different algebras, and their Schur algebras, arising from the centralizers of two different type B Weyl group actions in Schur-like dualities. We provide a presentation of the geometric counterpart of the above Schur algebras in Bao-Kujawa-Li-Wang (2018) specialized at $q=1$.
We classify Borel-Schur algebras having finite representation type. We also de- termine Auslander-Reiten sequences for a large class of simple modules over Borel- Schur algebras. A partial information on the structure of the socles of Borel-Schur algebras is given.
We give a necessary and sufficient condition on parameters for Ariki-Koike algebras (resp. cyclotomic q-Schur algebras) to be of finite representation type.
In our previous work arXiv:1306.1770, we found all Borel-Schur algebra of finite representation type. In the present article, we determine which Borel-Schur algebras of infinite representation type are tame, and which are wild.
We give explicit presentations by generators and relations of certain generalized Schur algebras (associated with tensor powers of the natural representation) in types B, C, D. This extends previous results in type A obtained by two of the authors. The presentation is compatible with the Serre presentation of the corresponding universal enveloping algebra. In types C, D this gives a presentation of the corresponding classical Schur algebra (the image of the representation on a tensor power) since the classical Schur algebra coincides with the generalized Schur algebra in those types. This coin…
This paper classifies the blocks of the truncated $q$-Schur algebras of type $A$ which have as weight poset an arbitrary cosaturated set of partitions.
We formulate a $q$-Schur algebra associated to an arbitrary $W$-invariant finite set $X_{\texttt f}$ of integral weights for a complex simple Lie algebra with Weyl group $W$. We establish a $q$-Schur duality between the $q$-Schur algebra and Hecke algebra associated to $W$. We then realize geometrically the $q$-Schur algebra and duality, and construct a canonical basis for the $q$-Schur algebra with positivity. With suitable choices of $X_{\texttt f}$ in classical types, we recover the $q$-Schur algebras in the literature. Our $q$-Schur algebras are closely related to the category $\mathcal O$…
We determined the $τ$-tilting finiteness of Schur algebras over an algebraically closed field of arbitrary characteristic, except for a few small cases.
We describe a generalization of Hashimoto and Kurano's Cauchy filtration for divided powers algebras. This filtration is then used to provide a cellular structure for generalized Schur algebras associated to an arbitrary cellular algebra. Applications to the cellularity of wreath product algebras $A \wr \mathfrak{S}_d$ are also considered.
When the characteristic of the underlying field is at least 5, we prove that the adjustment matrix for blocks of $q$-Schur algebras of weights 3 and 4 is the identity matrix. Moreover, we show that the decomposition numbers for weight 3 blocks of $q$-Schur algebras are bounded above by one.
In \cite{DFW} and \cite{Fu07}, little $q$-Schur algebras were introduced as homomorphic images of the infinitesimal quantum groups. In this paper, we will investigate representations of these algebras. We will classify simple modules for little $q$-Schur algebras and classify semisimple little $q$-Schur algebras. Moreover, through the classification of the blocks of little $q$-Schur algebras for $n=2$, we will determine little $q$-Schur algebras of finite representation type in the odd roots of unity case.
We obtain a presentation of Schur algebras (and q-Schur algebras) by generators and relations which is compatible with the usual presentation of the enveloping algebra (quantized enveloping algebra) corresponding to the Lie algebra gl(n) of n x n matrices. We also find several new bases of Schur algebras and their corresponding integral forms.
We define and study a new class of bialgebras, which generalize certain Turner double algebras related to generic blocks of symmetric groups. Bases and generators of these algebras are given. We investigate when the algebras are symmetric, which is relevant to block theory of finite groups. We then establish a double centralizer property related to blocks of Schur algebras.
The universal enveloping algebra ${\mathcal U}({\widehat{\frak{gl}}_n})$ of ${\widehat{\frak{gl}}_n}$ was realized in \cite[Ch. 6]{DDF} using affine Schur algebras. In particular some explicit multiplication formulas in affine Schur algebras were derived. We use these formulas to study the structure of affine Schur algebras. In particular, we give a presentation of the affine Schur algebra ${\mathcal S}_{\!\vartriangle}(n,r)_{\mathbb Q}$.
We define a generic multiplication in quantised Schur algebras and thus obtain a new algebra structure in the Schur algebras. We prove that via a modified version of the map from quantum groups to quantised Schur algebras, defined by A. A. Beilinson, G. Lusztig and R. MacPherson, a subalgebra of this new algebra is a quotient of the monoid algebra in Hall algebras studied by M. Reineke. We also prove that the subalgebra of the new algebra gives a geometric realisation of a positive part of 0-Schur algebras. Consequently, we obtain a multiplicative basis for the positive part of 0-Schur algebra…
Schur elements play a powerful role in the representation theory of symmetric algebras. In the case of the Ariki-Koike algebra, Schur elements are Laurent polynomials whose factors determine when Specht modules are projective irreducible and whether the algebra is semisimple. Formulas for the Schur elements of the Ariki-Koike algebra have been independently obtained first by Geck, Iancu and Malle, and later by Mathas. The aim of this note is to give a cancellation-free formula for these polynomials, so that their factors can be easily read and programmed.
We give a presentation of cyclotomic q-Schur algebras by generators and defining relations. As an application, we give an algorithm for computing decomposition numbers of cyclotomic q-Schur algebras.
We define and study new classes of quasi-hereditary and cellular algebras which generalize Turner's double algebras. Turner's algebras provide a local description of blocks of symmetric groups up to derived equivalence. Our general construction allows one to `schurify' any quasi-hereditary algebra $A$ to obtain a generalized Schur algebra $S^A(n,d)$ which we prove is again quasi-hereditary if $d\leq n$. We describe decomposition numbers of $S^A(n,d)$ in terms of those of $A$ and the classical Schur algebra $S(n,d)$. In fact, it is essential to work with quasi-hereditary superalgebras $A$, in w…
Given a complex reflection group W we compute the support of the spherical irreducible module of the rational Cherednik algebra of W in terms of the simultaneous eigenfunction of the Dunkl operators and Schur elements for finite Hecke algebras.
We prove Turner's conjecture, which describes the blocks of the Hecke algebras of the symmetric groups up to derived equivalence as certain explicit Turner double algebras. Turner doubles are Schur-algebra-like `local' objects, which replace wreath products of Brauer tree algebras in the context of the Broué abelian defect group conjecture for blocks of symmetric groups with non-abelian defect groups. The main tools used in the proof are generalized Schur algebras corresponding to wreath products of zigzag algebras and imaginary semicuspidal quotients of affine KLR algebras.
We consider the representation dimension, for fixed $n\geq2$, of ordinary and quantised Schur algebras $S(n,r)$ over a field $k$. For $k$ of positive characteristic $p$ we give a lower bound valid for all $p$. We also give an upper bound in the quantum case, when $k$ has characteristic $0$.
Issai Schur, in his doctoral thesis (1901) introduced the Schur algebra to study the polynomial representation theory of the general linear group. He described a basis of this algebra and structure constants. Later, Miguel Mendez (2001) gave a graph-theoretic description of Schur's basis and computed the structure constants. In this presentation, we will give a new graphic interpretation of the basis of Schur algebra and use it to give a description of the structure constants which is equivalent to the one given by Mendez.
We define a higher level version of the affine Hecke algebra and prove that, after completion, this algebra is isomorphic to a completion of Webster's tensor product algebra of type A. We then introduce a higher level version of the affine Schur algebra and establish, again after completion, an isomorphism with the quiver Schur algebra. An important observation is that the higher level affine Schur algebra surjects to the Dipper-James-Mathas cyclotomic q-Schur algebra. Moreover, we give nice diagrammatic presentations for all the algebras introduced in this paper.
A cell algebra structure is found for a family of generalized Schur algebras previously studied by the author. This cell algebra structure is then used to construct the irreducible representations of these algebras and to determine when the algebras are quasi-hereditary.
We generalize the Frobenius-Schur theorem to $C^*$-categories. From this category-theoretical point of view, we introduce the notions of real, complex and quaternionic representations of Hopf $C^*$-algebras. Based on these definitions, we give another type of the Hopf-algebraic analogue of the Frobenius-Schur theorem, originally due to Linchenko and Montgomery. Also given are similar results for weak Hopf $C^*$-algebras, table algebras and compact quantum groups.
We define the induction and restriction functors for cyclotomic q-Schur algebras, and study some properties of them. As an application, we categorify a higher level Fock space by using the module categories of cyclotomic q-Schur algebras.
The quantum Frobenius map and it splitting are shown to descend to corresponding maps for generalized $q$-Schur algebras at a root of unity. We also define analogs of $q$-Schur algebras for any affine algebra, and prove the corresponding results for them.
We study the Schur elements and the a-function for cyclotomic Hecke algebras. As a consequence, we show the existence of canonical basic sets, as defined by Geck-Rouquier, for certain complex reflection groups. This includes the case of finite Weyl groups for all choices of parameters (in characteristic 0).
In this paper we prove Schur-Weyl duality between the symplectic group and Brauer algebra over an arbitrary infinite field $K$. We show that the natural homomorphism from the Brauer algebra $B_n(-2m)$ to the endomorphism algebra of tensor space $(K^{2m})^{\otimes n}$ as a module over the symplectic similitude group $GSp_{2m}(K)$ (or equivalently, as a module over the symplectic group $Sp_{2m}(K)$) is always surjective. Another surjectivity, that of the natural homomorphism from the group algebra for $GSp_{2m}(K)$ to the endomorphism algebra of $(K^{2m})^{\otimes n}$ as a module over $B_n(-2m)$…
We compute the Hochschild cohomology of any block of $q$-Schur algebras. We focus the even part of this Hochschild cohomology ring. To compute the Hochschild cohomology of $q$-Schur algebras, we prove the following two results: first, we construct two graded algebra surjections between the Hochschild cohomologies of quasi-hereditary algebras because all $q$-Schur algebras over a field are quasi-hereditary. Second, we give the graded algebra isomorphism of Hochschild cohomologies by using a certain derived equivalence.
Two families of q-Schur algebras associated to Hecke algebras of type D are introduced, and related to a family used by Geck, Gruber and Hiss [10], [11]. We prove that the algebras in one family, called the q-Schur^{1.5} algebras, are integrally free, stable under base change, and are standardly stratified if the base field has odd characteristic. In the so-called linear prime case of [10], [11], all three families give rise to Morita equivalent algebras. A final section discusses a different example, and speculates on the direction of a general theory.
This paper surveys, and in some cases generalises, many of the recent results on homomorphisms and the higher Ext groups for q-Schur algebras and for the Hecke algebra of type A. We review various results giving isomorphisms between Ext groups in the two categories, and discuss those cases where explicit results have been determined.
This article introduces the duplex Hecke algebra, which is an infinite dimensional algebra generated by two Hecke algebras. This concept originates from the degenerate duplex Hecke algebra in the theory of Schur-Weyl duality related to enhanced reductive algebraic groups. We will study the finite dimensional natural representation of the duplex Hecke algebra on tensor space and prove that the duplex Hecke algebra forms a duality with the Levi type quantum group.
Motivated by Brundan-Kleshchev's work on higher Schur-Weyl duality, we establish mixed Schur-Weyl duality between general linear Lie algebras and cyclotomic walled Brauer algebras in an arbitrary level. Using weakly cellular bases of cyclotomic walled Brauer algebras, we classify highest weight vectors of certain mixed tensor modules of general linear Lie algebras. This leads to an efficient way to compute decomposition matrices of cyclotomic walled Brauer algebras arising from mixed Schur-Weyl duality, which generalizes early results on level two walled Brauer algebras.
Let $V$ be a free module of rank $n$ over a commutative unital ring $k$. We prove that tensor space $V^{\otimes r}$ satisfies Schur--Weyl duality, regarded as a bimodule for the action of the group algebra of the Weyl group of $\mathrm{GL}(V)$ and the partition algebra $P_r(n)$ over $k$. We also prove a similar result for the half partition algebra.
We define Kazhdan-Lusztig bases and study asymptotic forms for affine $q$-Schur algebras following Du and McGerty. We will show that the analogues of Lusztig's conjectures for Hecke algebras with unequal parameters hold for affine $q$-Schur algebras. We will also show that the affine $q$-Schur algebra $\mathcal{S}_{q,k}^{\vartriangle}(2,2)$ over a field $k$ has finite global dimension when char $k=0$ and $1+q\neq 0.$
This paper investigates the tilting modules of the cyclotomic q-Schur algebras, the Young modules of the Ariki-Koike algebras, and the interconnections between them. The main tools used to understand the tilting modules are contragredient duality, and the Specht filtrations and dual Specht filtrations of certain permutation modules. Surprisingly, Weyl filtrations -- which are in general more powerful than Specht filtrations -- play only a secondary role.
In \cite{JS} Jensen and Su constructed 0-Schur algebras on double flag varieties. The construction leads to a presentation of 0-Schur algebras using quivers with relations and the quiver approach naturally gives rise to a new class of algebras. That is, the path algebras defined on the quivers of 0-Schur algebras with relations modified from the defining relations of 0-Schur algebras by a tuple of parameters $\ut$. In particular, when all the entries of $\ut$ are 1, we have 0-Schur algerbas. When all the entries of $\ut$ are zero, we obtain a class of degenerate 0-Schur algebras. We prove that…
The affine quantum Schur algebra is a certain important infinite dimensional algebra whose representation theory is closely related to that of quantum affine $\frak{gl}_n$. Finite dimensional irreducible modules for the affine quantum Schur algebra ${\mathcal S}_{\vartriangle}(n,r)_{v}$ were classified in \cite{DDF}, where $v\in{\mathbb C}^*$ is not a root of unity. We will classify blocks of the affine quantum Schur algebra ${\mathcal S}_{\vartriangle}(n,r)_{v}$ in this paper.
We describe a basis of the centre of the Schur algebra which comes from conjugacy classes in the symmetric group via Schur-Weyl duality. We give a combinatorial description of expansions of these basis elements in terms of the basis originally used by Schur. The primitive central idempotents of the Schur algebra can be written down using this basis and the character table of the symmetric group. Along the way we prove a result on the non-singularity of the submatrix of the character table matrix of a symmetric group obtained by taking rows and columns indexed by partitions with at most n parts…
When the parameter $q\in\mathbb C^*$ is not a root of unity, simple modules of affine $q$-Schur algebras have been classified in terms of Frenkel--Mukhin's dominant Drinfeld polynomials (\cite[4.6.8]{DDF}). We compute these Drinfeld polynomials associated with the simple modules of an affine $q$-Schur algebra which come from the simple modules of the corresponding $q$-Schur algebra via the evaluation maps.
We establish a connection between a generalization of KLR algebras, called quiver Schur algebras, and the cohomological Hall algebras of Kontsevich and Soibelman. More specifically, we realize quiver Schur algebras as algebras of multiplication and comultiplication operators on the CoHA, and reinterpret the shuffle description of the CoHA in terms of Demazure operators. We introduce ``mixed quiver Schur algebras" associated to quivers with a contravariant involution, and show that they are related, in an analogous way, to the cohomological Hall modules defined by Young. We also obtain a geomet…
In this paper we consider the (affine) Schur algebra introduced by Vignéras as the endomorphism algebra of certain permutation modules for the Iwahori-Matsumoto Hecke algebra. This algebra describes, for a general linear group over a $p$-adic field, a large part of the unipotent block over fields of characteristic different from $p$. We show that this Schur algebra is, after a suitable completion, isomorphic to the quiver Schur algebra attached to the cyclic quiver. The isomorphism is explicit, but nontrivial. As a consequence, the completed (affine) Schur algebra inherits a grading. As a bypr…
