We generalize the classical coorbit space theory developed by Feichtinger and Gr"ochenig to quasi-Banach spaces. As a main result we provide atomic decompositions for coorbit spaces defined with respect to quasi-Banach spaces. These atomic decompositions are used to prove fast convergence rates of best $n$-term approximation schemes. We apply the abstract theory to time-frequency analysis of modulation spaces $M^{p,q}_m$, $0< p,q \leq \infty$.
In this paper we propose a general coorbit space theory suitable to define coorbits of quasi-Banach spaces using an abstract continuous frame, indexed by a locally compact Hausdorff space, and an associated generalized voice transform. The proposed theory realizes a further step in the development of a universal abstract theory towards various function spaces and their atomic decompositions which has been initiated by Feichtinger and Gr{ö}chenig in the late 1980ies. We combine the recent approaches in Rauhut, Ullrich and Rauhut to identify, in particular, various inhomogeneous (quasi-Banach) s…
In this paper we present an abstract framework for construction of Banach spaces of distributions from group representations. This generalizes the theory of coorbit spaces initiated by H.G. Feichtinger and K. Gröchenig in the 1980's. Spaces that can be described by this new technique include the whole Banach-scale of Bergman spaces on the unit disc. For these Bergman spaces we show that atomic decompositions can be constructed through sampling. We further present a wavelet characterization of Besov spaces on the forward light cone.
This paper ist concerned with recent progress in the context of coorbit space theory. Based on a square integrable group representation, the coorbit theory provides new families of associated smoothness spaces, where the smoothness of a function is measured by the decay of the associated voice transform. Moreover, by discretizing the representation, atomic decomposi- tions and Banach frames can be constructed. Usually, the whole machinery works well if the associated reproducing kernel is integrable with respect to a weighted Haar measure on the group. In recent studies, it has turned out that…
Function spaces are central topic in analysis. Often those spaces and related analysis involves symmetries in form of an action of a Lie group. Coorbit theory as introduced by Feichtinger and Gröchenig and then later extended in [3] gives a unified method to construct Banach spaces of functions based on representations of Lie groups. In this article we identify the homogeneous Besov spaces on stratified Lie groups introduced in [13] as coorbit spaces in the sense of [3] and use this to derive atomic decompositions for the Besov spaces.
Recently representation theory has been used to provide atomic decompositions for a large collection of classical Banach spaces. In this paper we extend the techniques to also include projective representations. As our main application we obtain atomic decompositions of Bergman spaces on the unit ball through the holomorphic discrete series for the group of isometries of the ball.
In this paper we summarize and give examples of a generalization of the coorbit space theory initiated in the 1980's by H.G. Feichtinger and K.H. Gröchenig. Coorbit theory has been a powerful tool in characterizing Banach spaces of distributions with the use of integrable representations of locally compact groups. Examples are a wavelet characterization of the Besov spaces and a characterization of some Bergman spaces by the discrete series representation of $\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{R})$. We present examples of Banach spaces which could not be covered by the previous theory, and we also provide …
We prove general kernel theorems for operators acting between coorbit spaces. These are Banach spaces associated to an integrable representation of a locally compact group and contain most of the usual function spaces (Besov spaces, modulation spaces, etc.). A kernel theorem describes the form of every bounded operator between a coorbit space of test functions and distributions by means of a kernel in a coorbit space associated to the tensor product representation. As special cases we recover Feichtinger's kernel theorem for modulation spaces and the recent generalizations by Cordero and Nicol…
Coorbit space theory is an abstract approach to function spaces and their atomic decompositions. The original theory developed by Feichtinger and Gr{ö}chenig in the late 1980ies heavily uses integrable representations of locally compact groups. Their theory covers, in particular, homogeneous Besov-Lizorkin-Triebel spaces, modulation spaces, Bergman spaces, and the recent shearlet spaces. However, inhomogeneous Besov-Lizorkin-Triebel spaces cannot be covered by their group theoretical approach. Later it was recognized by Fornasier and the first named author that one may replace coherent states …
Coorbit theory is a powerful machinery that constructs a family of Banach spaces, the so-called coorbit spaces, from well-behaved unitary representations of locally compact groups. A core feature of coorbit spaces is that they can be discretized in a way that reflects the geometry of the underlying locally compact group. Many established function spaces such as modulation spaces, Besov spaces, Sobolev-Shubin spaces, and shearlet spaces are examples of coorbit spaces. The goal of this survey is to give an overview of coorbit theory with the aim of presenting the main ideas in an accessible mann…
In this paper we show that the Fourier transform induces an isomorphism between the coorbit spaces defined by Feichtinger and Gröchenig of the mixed, weighted Lebesgue spaces $L_{v}^{p,q}$ with respect to the quasi-regular representation of a semi-direct product $\mathbb{R}^{d}\rtimes H$ with suitably chosen dilation group $H$, and certain decomposition spaces $\mathcal{D}\left(\mathcal{Q},L^{p},\ell_{u}^{q}\right)$ (essentially as introduced by Feichtinger and Gröbner), where the localized ,,parts`` of a function are measured in the $\mathcal{F}L^{p}$-norm. This equivalence is useful in sever…
Schur's test states that if $K:X\times Y\to\mathbb{C}$ satisfies $\int_Y |K(x,y)|dν(y)\leq C$ and $\int_X |K(x,y)|dμ(x)\leq C$, then the associated integral operator acts boundedly on $L^p$ for all $p\in [1,\infty]$. We derive a variant of this result ensuring boundedness on the (weighted) mixed-norm Lebesgue spaces $L_w^{p,q}$ for all $p,q\in [1,\infty]$. For non-negative integral kernels our criterion is sharp; i.e., it is satisfied if and only if the integral operator acts boundedly on all of the mixed-norm Lebesgue spaces. Motivated by this criterion, we introduce solid Banach modules $\ma…
This paper is concerned with the study of Besov-type decomposition spaces, which are scales of spaces associated to suitably defined coverings of the euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^d$, or suitable open subsets thereof. A fundamental problem in this domain, that is currently not well understood, is deciding when two different coverings give rise to the same scale of decomposition spaces. In this paper, we establish a coarse geometric approach to this problem, and show how it specializes for the case of wavelet coorbit spaces associated to a particular class of matrix groups $H < GL(\mathbb{R}^d)$ …
This paper considers coorbit spaces parametrized by mixed, weighted Lebesgue spaces with respect to the quasi-regular representation of the semi-direct product of Euclidean space and a suitable matrix dilation group. The class of dilation groups that we allow, the so-called integrably admissible dilation groups, contains the matrix groups yielding an irreducible, square-integrable quasi-regular representation as a proper subclass. The obtained scale of coorbit spaces extends therefore the well-studied wavelet coorbit spaces associated to discrete series representations. We show that for any in…
We study continuous wavelet transforms associated to matrix dilation groups giving rise to an irreducible square-integrable quasi-regular representation on ${\rm L}^2(\mathbb{R}^d)$. We first prove that these representations are integrable as well, with respect to a wide variety of weights, thus allowing to consistently quantify coefficient decay via coorbit space norms. We then show that these spaces always admit an atomic decomposition in terms of bandlimited Schwartz wavelets. We exhibit spaces of Schwartz functions densely contained in (most of) the coorbit spaces. We also present an examp…
We consider the coorbit theory associated to general continuous wavelet transforms arising from a square-integrable, irreducible quasi-regular representation of a semidirect product group $G = \mathbb{R}^d \rtimes H$. The existence of coorbit spaces for this very general setting has been recently established, together with concrete vanishing moment criteria for analyzing vectors and atoms that can be used in the coorbit scheme. These criteria depend on fairly technical assumptions on the dual action of the dilation group, and it is one of the chief purposes of this paper to considerably simpli…
A continuous frame is a family of vectors in a Hilbert space which allows reproductions of arbitrary elements by continuous superpositions. Associated to a given continuous frame we construct certain Banach spaces. Many classical function spaces can be identified as such spaces. We provide a general method to derive Banach frames and atomic decompositions for these Banach spaces by sampling the continuous frame. This is done by generalizing the coorbit space theory developed by Feichtinger and Groechenig. As an important tool the concept of localization of frames is extended to continuous fram…
This article describes how the ideas promoted by the fundamental papers published by M. Frazier and B. Jawerth in the eighties have influenced subsequent developments related to the theory of atomic decompositions and Banach frames for function spaces such as the modulation spaces and Besov-Triebel-Lizorkin spaces. Both of these classes of spaces arise as special cases of two different, general constructions of function spaces: coorbit spaces and decomposition spaces. Coorbit spaces are defined by imposing certain decay conditions on the so-called voice transform of the function/distribution u…
The classical criterion for compactness in Banach spaces of functions can be reformulated into a simple tightness condition in the time-frequency domain. This description preserves more explicitly the symmetry between time and frequency than the classical conditions. The result is first stated and proved for L^2(R^d), and then generalized to coorbit spaces. As special cases, we obtain new characterizations of compactness in Besov-Triebel-Lizorkin spaces, modulation spaces and Bargmann-Fock spaces.
We obtain Gabor frame characterisations of modulation spaces defined via a class of translation-modulation invariant Banach spaces of distributions that was recently introduced in $[10]$. We show that these spaces admit an atomic decomposition through Gabor expansions and that they are characterised by summability properties of their Gabor coefficients. Furthermore, we construct a large space of admissible windows. This generalises several fundamental results for the classical modulation spaces $ M^{p,q}_{w}$. Due to the absence of solidity assumptions on the Banach spaces defining these modul…
Gabor frames with Hermite functions are equivalent to sampling sequences in true Fock spaces of polyanalytic functions. In the L^2-case, such an equivalence follows from the unitarity of the polyanalytic Bargmann transform. We will introduce Banach spaces of polyanalytic functions and investigate the mapping properties of the polyanalytic Bargmann transform on modulation spaces. By applying the theory of coorbit spaces and localized frames to the Fock representation of the Heisenberg group, we derive explicit polyanalytic sampling theorems which can be seen as a polyanalytic version of the lat…
This paper is concerned with frame decompositions of $α$-modulation spaces. These spaces can be obtained as coorbit spaces for square-integrable representations of the affine Weyl-Heisenberg group modulo suitable subgroups. The theory yields canonical constructions for Banach frames or atomic decompositions in $α$-modulation spaces. A necessary ingredient in this abstract machinery is the existence of generating functions that are admissible for the representation. For numerical purposes, admissible atoms with compact support are necessary. We show new admissibility conditions that considerabl…
We provide explicit criteria for wavelets to give rise to frames and atomic decompositions in ${\rm L}^2(\mathbb{R}^d)$, but also in more general Banach function spaces. We consider wavelet systems that arise by translating and dilating the mother wavelet, with the dilations taken from a suitable subgroup of ${\rm GL}(\mathbb{R}^d)$, the so-called {\em dilation group}.The paper provides a unified approach that is applicable to a wide range of dilation groups, thus giving rise to new atomic decompositions for homogeneous Besov spaces in arbitrary dimensions, but also for other function spaces s…
We continue with the study of greedy-type bases in quasi-Banach spaces started in [3]. In this paper, we study partially-greedy bases focusing our attention in two main results: -Characterization of partially-greedy bases in quasi-Banach spaces in terms of quasi-greediness and different conservative-like properties. -Given a $C$-partially-greedy basis in a quasi-Banach space, there exists a "renorming" such that the basis is $1$-partially-greedy.
We study the bilinear Weyl product acting on quasi-Banach modulation spaces. We find sufficient conditions for continuity of the Weyl product and we derive necessary conditions. The results extend known results for Banach modulation spaces.
We identify symmetric quasi-Banach range of the discrete Calderón operator and Hilbert transform acting on a symmetric quasi-Banach sequence space. As an application we present an example of optimal range in the case when the domain of those operators is the weak-$\ell_{1}$ space of sequences.
We investigate stability of Fredholm properties on interpolation scales of quasi-Banach spaces. This analysis is motivated by problems arising in PDE's and several applications are presented.
Spaces of homogeneous polynomials on a Banach space are frequently equipped with quasinorms instead of norms. In this paper we develop a technique to replace the original quasi-norm by a norm in a dual preserving way, in the sense that the dual of the space with the new norm coincides with the dual of the space with the original quasi-norm. Applications to problems on the existence and approximation of solutions of convolution equations and on hypercyclic convolution operators on spaces of entire functions are provided.
We show that if $X$ is a quasi-Banach space with trivial dual then every continuous function $f:[0,1]\to X$ has a primitive, answering a question of M.M. Popov.
In this paper, we define for the first time the local Morrey-type space associated with ball quasi-Banach function spaces and show the related series of properties. In addition, Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator's boundedness is proved. We investigate nonsmooth decomposition of the local Morrey-type space associated with ball quasi-Banach function spaces via the Hardy local Morrey-type spaces associated with ball quasi-Banach function spaces. And we consider Hardy operator's boundedness.
We present a unified approach to the processes of inversion and duality for quasilinear and $1$-quasilinear maps; in particular, for centralizers and differentials generated by interpolation methods.
The main result of this paper establishes that the known Arazy-Cwikel property holds for classes of uniformly K-monotone spaces in the quasi-Banach setting provided that the initial couple is mutually closed. As a consequence, we get that the class of all quasi-Banach K-spaces (i.e., interpolation spaces which are described by the real K-method) with respect to an arbitrary mutually closed Banach couple enjoys the Arazy-Cwikel property. Another consequence complements some previous results by Bykov and Ovchinnikov, showing that this property holds also for the class of all interpolation quasi-…
Let $X$ be a Banach space. We prove that, for a large class of Banach or quasi-Banach spaces $E$ of $X$-valued sequences, the sets $E-\bigcup _{q\inΓ}\ell_{q}(X)$, where $Γ$ is any subset of $(0,\infty]$, and $E-c_{0}(X)$ contain closed infinite-dimensional subspaces of $E$ (if non-empty, of course). This result is applied in several particular cases and it is also shown that the same technique can be used to improve a result on the existence of spaces formed by norm-attaining linear operators.
In this note, we extend to the setting of quasi-reflexive spaces a classical result of N. Kalton and L. Randrianarivony on the coarse Lipschitz structure of reflexive and asymptotically uniformly smooth Banach spaces. As an application, we show for instance, that for $1\le q<p$, a $q$-asymptotically uniformly convex Banach space does not coarse Lipschitz embed into a $p$-asymptotically uniformly smooth quasi-reflexive Banach space. This extends a recent result of B.M. Braga.
We study how well a quasi-Banach space can be coarsely embedded into a Hilbert space. Given any quasi-Banach space X which coarsely embeds into a Hilbert space, we compute its Hilbert space compression exponent. We also show that the Hilbert space compression exponent of X is equal to the supremum of the amounts of snowflakings of X which admit a bi-Lipschitz embedding into a Hilbert space.
We generalize the theory of Wiener amalgam spaces on locally compact groups to quasi-Banach spaces. As a main result we provide convolution relations for such spaces. Also we weaken the technical assumption that the global component is invariant under right translations, which is even new for the classical Banach space case. To illustrate our theory we discuss in detail an example on the $ax+b$ group.
The main aim of this paper is to develop a general approach, which allows to extend the basics of Brudnyi-Kruglyak interpolation theory to the realm of quasi-Banach lattices. We prove that all $K$-monotone quasi-Banach lattices with respect to a $L$-convex quasi-Banach lattice couple have in fact a stronger property of the so-called $K(p,q)$-monotonicity for some $0<q\leq p\leq 1$, which allows us to get their description by the real $K$-method. Moreover, we obtain a refined version of the $K$-divisibility property for Banach lattice couples and then prove an appropriate version of this proper…
We deduce continuity, compactness and invariance properties for quasi-Banach Orlicz modulation spaces. We characterize such spaces in terms of Gabor expansions and by their images under the Bargmann transform.
We introduce new quasi-Banach modulation spaces on locally compact abelian (LCA) groups which coincide with the classical ones in the Banach setting and prove their main properties. Then we study Gabor frames on quasi-lattices, significantly extending the original theory introduced by Gröchenig and Strohmer. These issues are the key tools in showing boundedness results for Kohn-Nirenberg and localization operators on modulation spaces and studying their eigenfunctions' properties. In particular, the results in the Euclidean space are recaptured.
We prove the boundedness of a general class of multipliers and Fourier multipliers, in particular of the Hilbert transform, on quasi-Banach modulation spaces. We also deduce boundedness for multiplications and convolutions for elements in such spaces.
In three previous papers, we discussed quasidense multifunctions from a Banach space into its dual, or, equivalently, quasidense subsets of the product of a Banach space and its dual. In this paper, we survey (without proofs) some of the main results about quasidensity, and give some simple limiting examples in Hilbert spaces, reflexive Banach spaces, and nonreflexive Banach spaces.
There are two main aims of the paper. The first one is to extend the criterion for the precompactness of sets in Banach function spaces to the setting of quasi-Banach function spaces. The second one is to extend the criterion for the precompactness of sets in the Lebesgue spaces $L_p(\mathbb R^n)$, $1 \leq p < \infty$, to the so-called power quasi-Banach function spaces. These criteria are applied to establish compact embeddings of abstract Besov spaces into quasi-Banach function spaces. The results are illustrated on embeddings of Besov spaces $B^s_{p,q}(\mathbb R^n)$, $0<s<1$, $0<p,q\leq \in…
The main focus of this paper is to define the notion of quasi-$(2,β)$-Banach space and show some properties in this new space, by help of it and under some natural assumptions, we prove that the fixed point theorem [16, Theorem 2.1] is still valid in the setting of quasi-$(2,β)$-Banach spaces, this is also an extension of the fixed point result of Brzdęk et al. [12, Theorem 1] in $2$-Banach spaces to quasi-$(2,β)$-Banach spaces. In the next part, we give a general solution of the radical-type functional equation (1.2). In addition, we study the hyperstability results for these functional equat…
In this paper, we achieve the general solution and the generalized Hyers-Ulam-Rassias stability of the following functional equation $$f(x+ky)+f(x-ky)=k^2f(x+y)+k^2f(x-y)+2(1-k^2)f(x)\eqno {2 cm}$$for fixed integers $k$ with $k\neq0,\pm1$ in the quasi-Banach spaces.
We investigate relations between symmetrizations of quasi-Banach function spaces and constructions such as Calderon-Lozanovskii spaces, pointwise product spaces and pointwise multipliers. We show that under reasonable assumptions the symmetrization commutes with these operations. We determine also the spaces of pointwise multipliers between Lorentz spaces and Cesaro spaces. Developed methods may be regarded as an arithmetic of quasi-Banach function spaces and proofs of Theorems 3, 4 and 6 give a kind of tutorial for these methods. Finally, the above results will be used in proofs of some facto…
