We apply some recent developments of Baldoni-Beck-Cochet-Vergne on vector partition function, to Kostant's and Steinberg's formulae, for classical Lie algebras $A\_r$, $B\_r$, $C\_r$, $D\_r$. We therefore get efficient {\tt Maple} programs that compute for these Lie algebras: the multiplicity of a weight in an irreducible finite-dimensional representation; the decomposition coefficients of the tensor product of two irreducible finite-dimensional representations. These programs can also calculate associated Ehrhart quasipolynomials.
We study the Kronecker coefficients $g_{λ, μ, ν}$ via a formula that was described by Mishna, Rosas, and Sundaram, in which the coefficients are expressed as a signed sum of vector partition function evaluations. In particular, we use this formula to determine formulas to evaluate, bound, and estimate $g_{λ, μ, ν}$ in terms of the lengths of the partitions $λ, μ$, and $ν$. We describe a computational tool to compute Kronecker coefficients $g_{λ, μ, ν}$ with $\ell(μ) \leq 2,\ \ell(ν) \leq 4,\ \ell(λ) \leq 8$. We present a set of new vanishing conditions for the Kronecker coefficients by relatin…
The partition algebra is an associative algebra with a basis of set-partition diagrams and multiplication given by diagram concatenation. It contains as subalgebras a large class of diagram algebras including the Brauer, planar partition, rook monoid, rook-Brauer, Temperley-Lieb, Motzkin, planar rook monoid, and symmetric group algebras. We give a construction of the irreducible modules of these algebras in two isomorphic ways: first, as the span of symmetric diagrams on which the algebra acts by conjugation twisted with an irreducible symmetric group representation and, second, on a basis ind…
This paper defines the partition algebra for complex reflection group $G(r,p,n)$ acting on $k$-fold tensor product $(\mathbb{C}^n)^{\otimes k}$, where $\mathbb{C}^n$ is the reflection representation of $G(r,p,n)$. A basis of the centralizer algebra of this action of $G(r,p,n)$ was given by Tanabe and for $p =1$, the corresponding partition algebra was studied by Orellana. We also establish a subalgebra as partition algebra of a subgroup of $G(r,p,n)$ acting on $(\mathbb{C}^n)^{\otimes k}$. We call these algebras as Tanabe algebras. The aim of this paper is to study representation theory of Tan…
A nilpotent endomorphism of a quiver representation induces a linear transformation on the vector space at each vertex. Generically among all nilpotent endomorphisms, there is a well-defined Jordan form for these linear transformations, which is an interesting new invariant of a quiver representation. If $Q$ is a Dynkin quiver and $m$ is a minuscule vertex, we show that representations consisting of direct sums of indecomposable representations all including $m$ in their support, the category of which we denote by $\mathcal{C}_{Q,m}$, are determined up to isomorphism by this invariant. We use …
We give a closed formula for the number of partitions $λ$ of $n$ such that the corresponding irreducible representation $V_λ$ of $S_n$ has non-trivial determinant. We determine how many of these partitions are self-conjugate and how many are hooks. This is achieved by characterizing the $2$-core towers of such partitions. We also obtain a formula for the number of partitions of $n$ such that the associated permutation representation of $S_n$ has non-trivial determinant.
We study the multiplicity $b_S(n)$ of the trivial representation in the symmetric group representations $β_S$ on the (top) homology of the rank-selected partition lattice $Π_n^S$. We break the possible rank sets $S$ into three cases: (1) $1\not\in S$, (2) $S=1,..., i$ for $i\ge 1$ and (3) $S=1,..., i,j_1,..., j_l$ for $i,l\ge 1$, $j_1 > i+1$. It was previously shown by Hanlon that $b_S(n)=0$ for $S=1,..., i$. We use a partitioning for $Δ(Π_n)/S_n$ due to Hersh to confirm a conjecture of Sundaram that $b_S(n)>0$ for $1\not\in S$. On the other hand, we use the spectral sequence of a filtered com…
We use Gelfand-Tsetlin diagrams to write down the weight multiplicity function for the Lie algebra sl_k(C) (type A_{k-1}) as a single partition function. This allows us to apply known results about partition functions to derive interesting properties of the weight diagrams. We relate this description to that of the Duistermaat-Heckman measure from symplectic geometry, which gives a large-scale limit way to look at multiplicity diagrams. We also provide an explanation for why the weight polynomials in the boundary regions of the weight diagrams exhibit a number of linear factors. Using symplect…
We discuss some applications of signature quantization to the representation theory of compact Lie groups. In particular, we prove signature analogues of the Kostant formula for weight multiplicities and the Steinberg formula for tensor product multiplicities. Using symmetric functions, we also find, for type A, analogues of the Weyl branching rule and the Gelfand-Tsetlin theorem. These analogues involve a q-analogue of the Kostant partition function. We show that in type A, this q-analogue is polynomial in the relative interior of the cells of a complex of cones. This chamber complex can be t…
In this note we give representations for the partition algebra A_3(Q) in Young's seminormal form. For this purpose, we also give characterizations of A_n(Q) and$A_{n-1/2}(Q).
We study plane partitions satisfying condition $a_{n+1,m+1}=0$ (this condition is called "pit") and asymptotic conditions along three coordinate axes. We find the formulas for generating function of such plane partitions. Such plane partitions label the basis vectors in certain representations of quantum toroidal $\mathfrak{gl}_1$ algebra, therefore our formulas can be interpreted as the characters of these representations. The resulting formulas resemble formulas for characters of tensor representations of Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{gl}_{m|n}$. We discuss representation theoretic interpretat…
This paper gives an exposition of well known results on vector partition functions. The exposition is based on works of M. Brion, A. Szenes and M. Vergne and is geared toward explicit computer realizations. In particular, the paper presents two algorithms for computing the vector partition function with respect to a finite set of vectors $I$ as a quasipolynomial over a finite set of pointed polyhedral cones. We use the developed techniques to relate a result of P. Tumarkin and A. Felikson (and present an independent proof in the particular case of finite-dimensional root systems) to give bound…
We situate the noncrossing partitions associated to a finite Coxeter group within the context of the representation theory of quivers. We describe Reading's bijection between noncrossing partitions and clusters in this context, and show that it extends to the extended Dynkin case. Our setup also yields a new proof that the noncrossing partitions associated to a finite Coxeter group form a lattice. We also prove some new results within the theory of quiver representations. We show that the finitely generated, exact abelian, and extension-closed subcategories of the representations of a quiver $…
Let $\nabla^λ$ denote the Schur functor labelled by the partition $λ$ and let $E$ be the natural representation of $\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{C})$. We make a systematic study of when there is an isomorphism $\nabla^λ\!\mathrm{Sym}^\ell \!E \cong \nabla^μ\!\mathrm{Sym}^m \! E$ of representations of $\mathrm{SL}_2(\mathbb{C})$. Generalizing earlier results of King and Manivel, we classify all such isomorphisms when $λ$ and $μ$ are conjugate partitions and when one of $λ$ or $μ$ is a rectangle. We give a complete classification when $λ$ and $μ$ each have at most two rows or columns or is a hook parti…
In this paper we conjecture combinatorial Rogers-Ramanujan type colored partition identities related to standard representations of the affine Lie algebra of type $C^{(1)}_\ell$, $\ell\geq2$, and we conjecture similar colored partition identities with no obvious connection to representation theory of affine Lie algebras.
We compute the representation theory of two families of noncrossing partition quantum groups connected to amalgamated free products and free wreath products. This illustrates the efficiency of the methods developed in our previous joint work with M. Weber.
The z-measures on partitions originated from the problem of harmonic analysis of linear representations of the infinite symmetric group in the works of Kerov, Olshanski and Vershik (1993, 2004). A similar family corresponding to projective representations was introduced by Borodin (1997). The latter measures live on strict partitions (i.e., partitions with distinct parts), and the z-measures are supported by all partitions. In this note we describe some combinatorial relations between these two families of measures using the well-known doubling of shifted Young diagrams.
We determine the decomposition numbers of the partition algebra when the characteristic of the ground field is zero or larger than the degree of the partition algebra. This will allow us to determine for which exact values of the parameter the partition algebras are semisimple over an arbitrary field. Furthermore, we show that the blocks of the partition algebra over an arbitrary field categorify weight spaces of an action of type A quantum groups on an analogue of the Fock space. In particular, we recover the block structure which was recently determined by Bowman et al. In order to do so, we…
We introduce the ramified partition algebra, which is a physically motivated and natural generalization of the partition algebra. We investigate its representation theory and demonstrate quasi--heredity under certain conditions. Under these conditions we determine an index set for simple modules and construct standard modules with this index set. We construct tensor space representations of certain non--semisimple specializations, and show how to use these to build clock model transfer matrices in arbitrary physical dimensions.
Compact matrix quantum groups are strongly determined by their intertwiner spaces, due to a result by S.L. Woronowicz. In the case of easy quantum groups, the intertwiner spaces are given by the combinatorics of partitions, see the inital work of T. Banica and R. Speicher. The philosophy is that all quantum algebraic properties of these objects should be visible in their combinatorial data. We show that this is the case for their fusion rules (i.e. for their representation theory). As a byproduct, we obtain a unified approach to the fusion rules of the quantum permutation group $S_N^+$, the fr…
Instanton partition functions of $\mathcal{N}=1$ 5d Super Yang-Mills reduced on $S^1$ can be engineered in type IIB string theory from the $(p,q)$-branes web diagram. To this diagram is superimposed a web of representations of the Ding-Iohara-Miki (DIM) algebra that acts on the partition function. In this correspondence, each segment is associated to a representation, and the (topological string) vertex is identified with the intertwiner operator constructed by Awata, Feigin and Shiraishi. We define a new intertwiner acting on the representation spaces of levels $(1,n)\otimes(0,m)\to(1,n+m)$, …
