Let \{M_{r,s}\}_{0< r < p, 0< s < p'} be the irreducible Virasoro modules in the $(p,p')$-minimal series. In our previous paper, we have constructed a monomial basis of \oplus_{r=1}^{p-1}M_{r,s} in the case of $1<p'/p<2$. By `monomials' we mean vectors of the form ϕ^{(r_L,r_{L-1})}_{-n_L}...ϕ^{(r_1,r_{0})}_{-n_1} |r_0,s >, where ϕ_{-n}^{(r',r)} are the Fourier components of the (2,1)-primary field mapping M_{r,s} to M_{r',s}, and |r_0,s > is the highest weight vector of M_{r_0,s}. In this article, for all p<p' with p>2 and s=1, we describe a subset of such monomials which conjecturally forms a basis of \oplus_{r=1}^{p-1}M_{r,1}. We prove that the character of the combinatorial set labeling these monomials coincides with the character of the corresponding Virasoro module. We also verify the conjecture in the case of p=3.
G. Andrews proved that if $n$ is a prime number then the coefficients $a_k$ and $a_{k+n}$ of the product $(q,q)_\infty/(q^n,q^n)_\infty=\sum_k a_kq^k$ have the same sign, see [A1]. We generalize this result in several directions. Our results are based on the observation that many products can be written as alternating sums of characters of Virasoro modules.
We give the fermionic character formulas for the spaces of coinvariants obtained from level $k$ integrable representations of $\hat{\mathfrak sl}_2$. We establish the functional realization of the spaces dual to the coinvariant spaces. We parameterize functions in the dual spaces by rigged partitions, and prove the recursion relations for the sets of rigged partitions.
Level-restricted paths play an important role in crystal theory. They correspond to certain highest weight vectors of modules of quantum affine algebras. We show that the recently established bijection between Littlewood--Richardson tableaux and rigged configurations is well-behaved with respect to level-restriction and give an explicit characterization of level-restricted rigged configurations. As a consequence a new general fermionic formula for the level-restricted generalized Kostka polynomial is obtained. Some coset branching functions of type $A$ are computed by taking limits of these fe…
On the basis of the Andrews--Bailey construction, we derive fermionic sum representations of Virasoro characters of non unitary minimal models ${\cal M}(k,kp+p-1)$ and ${\cal M}(k,kp+1)$. These expressions include certain expressions conjectured by the Stony Brook group as special cases.
We present the list of irreducible (generalized) highest weight modules over the Virasoro algebra and N=1 super-Virasoro algebras obtained as factor-modules of (generalized) Verma modules. We present also the character formulae of all these modules and single out the unitary irreducible ones. Most formulas are valid for the three algebras under consideration, the different cases being distinguished by two parameters. This is a slightly extended version of an Encyclopedia entry.
We prove $q$-series identities between bosonic and fermionic representations of certain Virasoro characters. These identities include some of the conjectures made by the Stony Brook group as special cases. Our method is a direct application of Andrews' extensions of Bailey's lemma to recently obtained polynomial identities.
The vertex operator algebras and modules associated to the highest weight modules for the Virasoro algebra over an arbitrary field F whose characteristic is not equal to 2 are studied. The irreducible modules of vertex operator algebra L(1/2,0)_F are classified. The rationality of L(1/2,0)_F is established if the characteristic of F is different from 7.
In this paper, we study a new kind of vertex operator algebra related to the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebra, which we call the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro vertex operator algebra, and its modules. Specifically, we present some results concerning the relationship between the restricted module categories of twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebras of rank one and rank two and several different kinds of module categories of their corresponding vertex algebras. We also study fully the structures of the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro vertex operator algebra, give a characterization of it as a tensor …
In this paper, we study Virasoro vertex algebras and affine vertex algebras over a general field of characteristic $p>2$. More specifically, we study certain quotients of the universal Virasoro and affine vertex algebras by ideals related to the $p$-centers of the Virasoro algebra and affine Lie algebras. Among the main results, we classify their irreducible $\mathbb{N}$-graded modules by explicitly determining their Zhu algebras and show that these vertex algebras have only finitely many irreducible $\mathbb{N}$-graded modules and they are $C_2$-cofinite.
Let $\mathbb{F}$ be a field of characteristic 0, $G$ an additive subgroup of $\mathbb{F}$, $α\in \mathbb{F}$ satisfying $α\notin G, 2α\in G$. We define a class of infinite-dimensional Lie algebras which are called generalized Schrödinger-Virasoro algebras and use $\mathfrak{gsv}[G,α]$ to denote the one corresponding to $G$ and $α$. In this paper the automorphism group and irreducibility of Verma modules for $\mathfrak{gsv}[G,α]$ are completely determined.
We conjecture an explicit bound on the prime characteristic of a field, under which the Weyl modules of affine $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ and the minimal series modules of Virasoro algebra remain irreducible, and Goddard-Kent-Olive coset construction for affine $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ is valid.
The present paper is another step toward the classification of $\Z\times\Z$-graded Lie algebras: we classify $\Z\times\Z$-graded Lie algebras $A=\oplus_{i,j\in\Z}A_{i,j}$ over a field $F$ of characteristic 0 with dim $A_{i,j}\le1$ for $i,j\in\Z$, satisfying: (1) $Å_0=\oplus_{i\in \Z}Å_{i,0}$ is isomorphic to the centerless Virasoro algebra, (2) $A_{0,-1},A_{0,0},A_{0,1}$ span the 3-dimensional simple Lie algebra $sl_2$, (3) $A$ is generated by the centerless Virasoro algebra and $sl_2$. These algebras include some rank 2 centerless Virasoro algebras, and some rank 2 Block algebras and their ex…
The filtration of the Virasoro minimal series representations M^{(p,p')}_{r,s} induced by the (1,3)-primary field $ϕ_{1,3}(z)$ is studied. For 1< p'/p< 2, a conjectural basis of M^{(p,p')}_{r,s} compatible with the filtration is given by using monomial vectors in terms of the Fourier coefficients of $ϕ_{1,3}(z)$. In support of this conjecture, we give two results. First, we establish the equality of the character of the conjectural basis vectors with the character of the whole representation space. Second, for the unitary series (p'=p+1), we establish for each $m$ the equality between the char…
Lie conformal algebras $\mathcal{W}(a,b)$ are the semi-direct sums of Virasoro Lie conformal algebra and its nontrivial conformal modules of rank one. In this paper, we first give a complete classification of all finite nontrivial irreducible conformal modules of $\mathcal{W}(a,b)$. It is shown that all such modules are of rank one. Moreover, with a similar method, all finite nontrivial irreducible conformal modules of Schrödinger-Virasoro type Lie conformal algebras $TSV(a,b)$ and $TSV(c)$ are characterized.
For any additive subgroup $G$ of an arbitrary field $F$ of characteristic zero, there corresponds a generalized Heisenberg-Virasoro algebra $L[G]$. Given a total order of $G$ compatible with its group structure, and any $h,h_I,c,c_I,c_{LI}\in F$, a Verma module $M(h,h_I,c,c_I,c_{LI})$ over $L[G]$ is defined. In the this note, the irreducibility of Verma modules $M(h,h_I,c,c_I,c_{LI})$ is completely determined.
For p \in {3, 4} and all p' > p, with p' coprime to p, we obtain fermionic expressions for the combination χ^{p, p'}_{1, s} + q^Δ χ^{p, p'}_{p-1,s} of Virasoro (W_2) characters for various values of s, and particular choices of Delta. Equating these expressions with known product expressions, we obtain q-series identities which are akin to the Andrews-Gordon identities. For p=3, these identities were conjectured by Bytsko. For p=4, we obtain identities whose form is a variation on that of the p=3 cases. These identities appear to be new. The case (p,p')=(3,14) is particularly interesting becau…
We study a family of fermionic oscillator representations of the Virasoro algebra via 2-point-local Virasoro fields on the Fock space $\mathit{F^{\otimes \frac{1}{2}}}$ of a neutral (real) fermion. We obtain the decomposition of $\mathit{F^{\otimes \frac{1}{2}}}$ as a direct sum of irreducible highest weight Virasoro modules with central charge $c=1$. As a corollary we obtain the decomposition of the irreducible highest weight Virasoro modules with central charge $c=\frac{1}{2}$ into irreducible highest weight Virasoro modules with central charge $c=1$. As an application we show how positive s…
The asymptotics of characters $χ_{kλ}(\exp(h/k))$ of irreducible representations of a compact Lie group $G$ for large values of the scaling factor $k$ are given by Duistermaat-Heckman (DH) integrals over coadjoint orbits of $G$. This phenomenon generalises to coadjoint orbits of central extensions of loop groups $\widehat{LG}$ and of diffeomorphisms of the circle $\widehat{\rm Diff}(S^1)$. We show that the asymptotics of characters of integrable modules of affine Kac-Moody algebras and of the Virasoro algebra factorize into a divergent contribution of the standard form and a convergent contrib…
Using a summation formula due to Burge, and a combinatorial identity between partition pairs, we obtain an infinite tree of q-polynomial identities for the Virasoro characters χ^{p, p'}_{r, s}, dependent on two finite size parameters M and N, in the cases where: (i) p and p' are coprime integers that satisfy 0 < p < p'. (ii) If the pair (p', p) has a continued fraction (c_1, c_2, ... , c_{t-1}, c_t+2), where t >= 1, then the pair (s, r) has a continued fraction (c_1, c_2, ... , c_{u-1}, d), where 1 =< u =< t, and 1 =< d =< c_{u}. The limit M -> infinity, for fixed N, and the limit N -> infinit…
We establish a natural connection of the $q$-Virasoro algebra $D_{q}$ introduced by Belov and Chaltikian with affine Kac-Moody Lie algebras. More specifically, for each abelian group $S$ together with a one-to-one linear character $χ$, we define an infinite-dimensional Lie algebra $D_{S}$ which reduces to $D_{q}$ when $S=\mathbb{Z}$. Guided by the theory of equivariant quasi modules for vertex algebras, we introduce another Lie algebra ${\mathfrak{g}}_{S}$ with $S$ as an automorphism group and we prove that $D_{S}$ is isomorphic to the $S$-covariant algebra of the affine Lie algebra $\widehat{…
This paper studies restricted modules of gap-$p$ Virasoro algebra $Ł$ and their intrinsic connection to twisted modules of certain vertex algebras. We first establish an equivalence between the category of restricted $Ł$-modules of level $\el$ and the category of twisted modules of vertex algebra $V_{\mathcal{N}_{p}}(\el,0)$, where $\mathcal{N}_{p}$ is a new Lie algebra, $\el:=(\ell_{0},0,\cdots,0)\in\C^{\halfp+1}$, $\ell_{0}\in\C$ is the action of the Virasoro center. Then we focus on the construction and classification of simple restricted $Ł$-modules of level $\el$. More explicitly, we give…
This paper consists of two parts: (1) Using a Z[1/2]-form of Virasoro vertex operator algebra L(1/2,0) with central charge 1/2, we obtain a modular vertex operator algebra over any field F of finite characteristic different from 2. We determine the generators and classify the irreducible modules for this vertex operator algebra. (2) We investigate modular framed vertex operator algebras. In particular, the rationality of modular framed vertex operator algebras is established. For a modular code vertex operator algebra, the irreducible modules are constructed and classified. Moreover, a Z[1/2]-…
We revisit the issue of counting all local fields of the restricted sine-Gordon model, in the case corresponding to a perturbation of minimal unitary conformal field theory. The problem amounts to the study of a quotient of certain space of polynomials which enter the integral representation for form factors. This space may be viewed as a $q$-analog of the space of conformal coinvariants associated with U_q(sl_{2}^) with q=\sqrt{-1}. We prove that its character is given by the restricted Kostka polynomial multiplied by a simple factor. As a result, we obtain a formula for the truncated charact…
