We use ergodic theoretic tools to solve a classical problem in geometric Ramsey theory. Let E be a measurable subset of R^m, with positive upper density. Let V={0,v_1,...,v_k} be a subset of R^m. We show that for r large enough, we can find an isometric copy of rV arbitrarily close to E. This is a generalization of a theorem of Furstenberg, Katznelson and Weiss showing a similar property for m=k=2.
Let $(X,T)$ be a topological dynamical system, and $\mathcal{F}$ be a family of subsets of $\mathbb{Z}_+$. $(X,T)$ is strongly $\mathcal{F}$-sensitive, if there is $δ>0$ such that for each non-empty open subset $U$, there are $x,y\in U$ with $\{n\in\mathbb{Z}_+: d(T^nx,T^ny)>δ\}\in\mathcal{F}$. Let $\mathcal{F}_t$ (resp. $\mathcal{F}_{ip}$, $\mathcal{F}_{fip}$) be consisting of thick sets (resp. IP-sets, subsets containing arbitrarily long finite IP-sets). The following Auslander-Yorke's type dichotomy theorems are obtained: (1) a minimal system is either strongly $\mathcal{F}_{fip}$-sensitive…
We prove that a sumset of a TE subset of (\N) (these sets can be viewed as "aperiodic" sets) with a set of positive upper density intersects a set of values of any polynomial with integer coefficients., i.e. for any (A \subset \N ) a TE set, for any (p(n) \in \Z[n]: °{p(n)} > 0, p(n) \to_{n \to \infty} \infty ) and any subset (B \subset \N ) of positive upper density we have (R_p = A+B \cap \{p(n) | n \in \N \} \neq \emptyset). For (A ) a WM set (subclass of TE sets) we prove that (R_p ) has lower density 1. In addition we obtain a generalization of the latter result to the case of several pol…
Let $(X,G)$ be a $G$-action topological system, where $G$ is a countable infinite discrete amenable group and $X$ a compact metric space. In this paper we study the upper capacity entropy and packing entropy for systems with weaker version of specification. We prove that the upper capacity always carries full entropy while there is a variational principle for packing entropy of saturated sets.
This paper's major purpose is to continue the work of Zhu and Ma[1]. To begin, the $\mathbf{g}$-almost product property, more general irregular and regular sets, and some new notions of the Banach upper density recurrent points and transitive points of free semigroup actions are introduced. Furthermore, under the $\mathbf{g}$-almost product property and other conditions, we coordinate the Banach upper recurrence, transitivity with (ir)regularity, and obtain lots of generalized multifractal analyses for general observable functions of free semigroup actions. Finally, statistical $ω$-limit sets …
We give a simple upper bound for the upper box dimension of a backward invariant set of a $C^{1}$-diffeomorphism of a Riemannian manifold. We also estimate an upper bound for the box dimension of a forward invariant set of a $C^{1}$-mapping with finite Brouwer degree in a Riemannian manifold.
In this paper, some characterizations about transitivity, mildly mixing property, $\mathbf{a}$-transitivity, equicontinuity, uniform rigidity and proximality of Zadeh's extensions restricted on some invariant closed subsets of the space of all upper semi-continuous fuzzy sets with the level-wise metric are obtained. In particular, it is proved that a dynamical system is weakly mixing (resp., mildly mixing, weakly mixing and $\mathbf{a}$-transitive, equicontinuous, uniformly rigid) if and only if the Zadeh's extension is transitive (resp., mildly mixing, $\mathbf{a}$-transitive, equicontinuous,…
Answering a question of Hegyvári and Ruzsa , we show that if A is a set of integers having positive upper Banach density, then the set A+A-A:= {a+b-c: a, b, c are in A} contains Bohr neighborhoods of many elements of A, where the radius and dimension of the Bohr neighborhood depend only the upper Banach density of A.
Climenhaga showed the applicability of Bowen equation to arbitrary subset of a compact metric space. The main purpose of this paper is to generalize the main result of Climenhaga to free semigroup actions for non-compact sets. We introduce the notions of the topological pressure and lower and upper capacity topological pressure of a free semigroup action for non-compact sets by using the Caratheodory- Pesin structure. Some properties of these notions are given, followed by three main results. One is to characterize the Hausdorff dimension of arbitrary subset in term of the topological pressure…
We obtain a exponential large deviation upper bound for continuous observables on suspension semiflows over a non-uniformly expanding base transformation with non-flat singularities and/or discontinuities, where the roof function defining the suspension behaves like the logarithm of the distance to the singular/discontinuous set of the base map. To obtain this upper bound, we show that the base transformation exhibits exponential slow recurrence to the singular set. The results are applied to semiflows modeling singular-hyperbolic attracting sets of $C^2$ vector fields. As corollary of the met…
In this paper we obtain new lower bounds for the upper box dimension of $αβ$ sets. As a corollary of our main result, we show that if $α$ is not a Liouville number and $β$ is a Liouville number, then the upper box dimension of any $αβ$ set is $1$. We also use our dimension bounds to obtain new results on affine embeddings of self-similar sets.
It is known that if the underlying iterated function system satisfies the open set condition, then the upper box dimension of an inhomogeneous self-similar set is the maximum of the upper box dimensions of the homogeneous counterpart and the condensation set. First, we prove that this `expected formula' does not hold in general if there are overlaps in the construction. We demonstrate this via two different types of counterexample: the first is a family of overlapping inhomogeneous self-similar sets based upon Bernoulli convolutions; and the second applies in higher dimensions and makes use of…
For a hyperbolic map f on a saddle type fractal Lambda with self-intersections, the number of f- preimages of a point x in Lambda may depend on x. This makes estimates of the stable dimensions more difficult than for diffeomorphisms or for maps which are constant-to-one. We employ the thermodynamic formalism in order to derive estimates for the stable Hausdorff dimension function delta^s on Lambda, in the case when f is conformal on local stable manifolds. These estimates are in terms of a continuous function on Lambda which bounds the preimage counting function from below. As a corollary we o…
It is known that hyperbolic dynamical systems admit a unique invariant probability measure with maximal entropy. We prove an effective version of this statement and use it to estimate an upper bound for Hausdorff dimension of exceptional sets arising from dynamics.
We prove that the upper box dimension of an inhomogeneous self-affine set is bounded above by the maximum of the affinity dimension and the dimension of the condensation set. In addition, we determine sufficient conditions for this upper bound to be attained, which, in part, constitutes an exploration of the capacity for the condensation set to mitigate dimension drop between the affinity dimension and the corresponding homogeneous attractor. Our work improves and unifies previous results on general inhomogeneous attractors, low-dimensional affine systems, and inhomogeneous self-affine carpets…
