The goal of the present paper is the calculation of the equivariant twisted K-theory of a compact Lie group which acts on itself by conjugations, and elements of a TQFT-structure on the twisted K-groups. These results are originally due to D.S.Freed, M.J.Hopkins and C.Teleman. In this paper we redo their calculations in the framework of topological and differentiable stacks. We also show how moduli spaces of flat connections on surfaces give rise to trivializations of twists.
In this paper we introduce exotic twisted $\mathbb T$-equivariant K-theory of loop space $LZ$ depending on the (typically non-flat) holonomy line bundle ${\mathcal L}^B$ on $LZ$ induced from a gerbe with connection $B$ on $Z$. We also define exotic twisted $\mathbb T$-equivariant Chern character that maps the exotic twisted $\mathbb T$-equivariant K-theory of $LZ$ into the exotic twisted $\mathbb T$-equivariant cohomology as defined in an earlier paper of ours, and which localises to twisted cohomology of $Z$.
We compare different algebraic structures in twisted equivariant K-Theory for proper actions of discrete groups. After the construction of a module structure over untwisted equivariant K-Theory, we prove a completion Theorem of Atiyah-Segal type for twisted equivariant K-Theory. Using a Universal coefficient Theorem, we prove a cocompletion Theorem for Twisted Borel K-Homology for discrete Groups.
We give a construction for twisted equivariant K-theory in the case of a proper action of a discrete group using twisted bundles. Our construction uses results of Lueck and Oliver to extend a construction of Adem and Ruan. We also show the existence of a Chern character to twisted Bredon cohomology. This gives a partial answer to the question of when you can construct twisted equivariant K-theory out of finite rank twisted bundles.
We compare twisted Equivariant K-theory of Sl3Z with untwisted equivariant K-Theory of its universal central extension, St3Z. Using universal coefficient theorems by the authors, the computations explained here give the domain of Baum-Connes assembly maps landing on the topological K-theory of twisted group C*-algebras related to Sl3Z, for which a version of Poincaré Duality studied previously by Echterhoff, Emerson and Kim is verified.

We use a spectral sequence proposed by C. Dwyer and previous work by Sanchez-Garcia and Soule to compute Twisted Equivariant K-theory groups of the classifying space for proper actions of Sl3(Z). After proving a Universal coefficient theorem in Bredon Cohomology with specific coefficients, we compute the twisted equivariant K-homology and state a relation to the Baum-Connes Conjecture with coefficients.
We construct a comparison map from the topological K-theory of the dg-category of twisted perfect complexes on certain global quotient stacks to twisted equivariant K-theory, generalizing constructions of Halpern-Leistner-Pomerleano and Moulinos. We prove that this map is an equivalence if a version of the projective bundle theorem holds for twisted equivariant K-theory. Along the way, we give a new proof of a theorem of Moulinos that the comparison map is an equivalence in the non-equivariant case.
Let $G$ be a connected semisimple Lie group with its maximal compact subgroup $K$ being simply-connected. We show that the twisted equivariant $KK$-theory $KK^{\bullet}_{G}(G/K, τ_G^G)$ of $G$ has a ring structure induced from the renowned ring structure of the twisted equivariant $K$-theory $K^{\bullet}_{K}(K, τ_K^K)$ of a maximal compact subgroup $K$. We present a version of twisted equivariant $K$-theory-$K$-twisted equivariant $K$-theory, and use Grothendieck differentials to compute the $K$ -twisted equivariant $K$-theory of simple simply connected Lie groups. We did the calculation explicitly for SU(N) explicitly. The basic idea is to interpret an equivariant gerbe as an element of equivariant $K$-theory of degree 1.
In this paper we define twisted equivariant K-theory for actions of Lie groupoids. For a Bredon-compatible Lie groupoid, this defines a periodic cohomology theory on the category of finite CW-complexes with equivariant stable projective bundles. A classification of these bundles is shown. We also obtain a completion theorem and apply these results to proper actions of groups.
We use the geometry of the space of fields for gauged supersymmetric mechanics to construct the twisted differential equivariant K-theory of a manifold with an action by a finite group.
For G a finite group and X a G-space on which a normal subgroup A acts trivially, we show that the G-equivariant K-theory of X decomposes as a direct sum of twisted equivariant K-theories of X parametrized by the orbits of the conjugation action of G on the irreducible representations of A. The twists are group 2-cocycles which encode the obstruction of lifting an irreducible representation of A to the subgroup of G which fixes the isomorphism class of the irreducible representation.
Twisted topological Hochschild homology of $C_n$-equivariant spectra was introduced by Angeltveit, Blumberg, Gerhardt, Hill, Lawson, and Mandell, building on the work of Hill, Hopkins, and Ravenel on norms in equivariant homotopy theory. In this paper we introduce tools for computing twisted THH, which we apply to computations for Thom spectra, Eilenberg-MacLane spectra, and the real bordism spectrum $MU_{\mathbb{R}}$. Using a global version of the equivariant Chern character, we describe the complexified twisted equivariant K-theory of a space with a compact Lie group action in terms of fixed-point data. We apply this to the case of a compact Lie group acting on itself by conjugation, and relate the result to the Verlinde algebra and to the Kac numerator at q=1. Verlinde's formula is also discussed in this context.
A duality is discussed for Lie group bundles vs. certain tensor categories with non-simple identity, in the setting of Nistor-Troitsky gauge-equivariant K-theory. As an application, we study C*-algebra bundles with fibre a fixed-point algebra of the Cuntz algebra: a classification is given, and a cohomological invariant is assigned, representing the obstruction to perform an embedding into a continuous bundle of Cuntz algebras. Finally, we introduce the notion of twisted equivariant K-theory.
We develop equivariant KK-theory for locally compact groupoid actions by Morita equivalences on real and complex graded C*-algebras. Functoriality with respect to generalised morphisms and Bott periodicity are discussed. We introduce Stiefel-Whitney classes for real or complex equivariant vector bundles over locally compact groupoids to establish the Thom isomorphism theorem in twisted groupoid K-theory.
In this paper, we study a generalization of twisted (groupoid) equivariant $\mathrm{K}$-theory in the sense of Freed-Moore for $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded $\mathrm{C}^*$-algebras. It is defined by using Fredholm operators on Hilbert modules with twisted representations. We compare it with another description using odd symmetries, which is a generalization of van Daele's $\mathrm{K}$-theory for $\mathbb{Z}_2$-graded Banach algebras. For $G$ a finite group, a normalized 2-cocycle $α\in Z^{2}\big(G,{\mathbb S}^{1}\big)$ and $X$ a $G$-space on which a normal subgroup $A$ acts trivially, we show that the $α$-twisted $G$-equivariant $K$-theory of $X$ decomposes as a direct sum of twisted equivariant $K$-theories of $X$ parametrized by the orbits of an action of $G$ on the set of irreducible $α$-projective representations of $A$. We use a spectral sequence developed by Graeme Segal in order to understand the twisted G-equivariant K-theory for proper and discrete actions. We show that the second page of this spectral sequence is isomorphic to a version of Bredon cohomology with local coefficients in twisted representations. We furthermore explain some phenomena concerning the third differential of the spectral sequence, and we recover known results when the twisting comes from finite order elements in discrete torsion.
In joint work with M. Hopkins and C. Teleman we find a new description of the Verlinde algebra associated to a compact Lie group. In this expository account we describe twisted K-theory, prove the theorem for the group SU(2), and motivate the general theorem using ideas in topological field theory. This paper is our first step in establishing a de Rham model for equivariant twisted $K$-theory using machinery from noncommutative geometry. Freed-Hopkins-Teleman expressed the Verlinde algebra as twisted equivariant K-theory. We study how to recover the full system (fusion algebra of defect lines), nimrep (cylindrical partition function), etc of modular invariant partition functions of conformal field theories associated to loop groups. We work out several examples corresponding to conformal embeddings and orbifolds. We identify a new aspect of the A-D-E pattern of SU(2) modular invariants.
This is a study of twisted K-theory on a product space $T \times M$. The twisting comes from a decomposable cup product class which applies the 1-cohomology of $T$ and the 2-cohomology of $M$. In the case of a topological product, we give a concrete realization for the gerbe associated to a cup product characteristic class and use this to realize twisted $K^1$-theory elements in terms of supercharge sections in a Fredholm bundle. We prove, under some mild conditions, that the equivariant twisted K-theory group of a crossed module admits a ring structure if the twisting 2-cocycle is 2-multiplicative. We also give an explicit construction of the transgression map $T_1: H^*(Γ;A) \to H^{*-1}((N\rtimes Γ;A)$ for any crossed module $N\to Γ$ and prove that any element in the image is $\infty$-multiplicative. The Freed-Hopkins-Teleman Theorem (FHT) asserts a canonical link between the equivariant twisted $K$-homology of $G$ and its Verlinde algebra. The smooth action of a compact Lie group on a compact manifold can be resolved to an iterated space, as made explicit by Pierre Albin and the second author. On the resolution the lifted action has fixed isotropy type corresponding to the open stratum and also in an iterated sense, with connecting equivariant fibrations over the boundary hypersurfaces covering the resolutions of the other strata. This structure descends to a resolution of the quotient as a stratified space. We prove that each exponential functor on the category of finite-dimensional complex inner product spaces and isomorphisms gives rise to an equivariant higher (ie. non-classical) twist of $K$-theory over $G=SU(n)$. This twist is represented by a Fell bundle $\mathcal{E} \to \mathcal{G}$, which reduces to the basic gerbe for the top exterior power functor. For a space X acted by a finite group $\G$, the product space $X^n$ affords a natural action of the wreath product $\Gn$. In this paper we study the K-groups $K_{\tG_n}(X^n)$ of $\Gn$-equivariant Clifford supermodules on $X^n$. We show that $\tFG =\bigoplus_{n\ge 0}K_{\tG_n}(X^n) \otimes \C$ is a Hopf algebra and it is isomorphic to the Fock space of a twisted Heisenberg algebra. Twisted vertex operators make a natural appearance. This is the first in a series of papers investigating the relationship between the twisted equivariant K-theory of a compact Lie group G and the "Verlinde ring" of its loop group. In this paper we set up the foundations of twisted equivariant K-groups, and more generally twisted K-theory of groupoids. We establish enough basic properties to make effective computations. The purpose of the paper is twofold: First, known results of the noncommutative spin geometry of the standard Podles sphere are extended by discussing Poincare duality and orientability. In the discussion of orientability, Hochschild homology is replaced by a twisted version which avoids the dimension drop. The twisted Hochschild cycle representing an orientation is related to the volume form of the distinguished covariant differential calculus. The most basic structure of chiral conformal field theory (CFT) is the Verlinde ring. Freed-Hopkins-Teleman have expressed the Verlinde ring for the CFT's associated to loop groups, as twisted equivariant K-theory. We build on their work to express K-theoretically the structures of full CFT. Shadows for bicategories, defined by Ponto, provide a useful framework that generalizes classical and topological Hochschild homology. In this paper, we define Hochschild-type invariants for monoids in a symmetric monoidal, simplicial model category $\mathsf V$, as well as for small $\mathsf V$-categories. We show that each of these constructions extends to a shadow on an appropriate bicategory, which implies in particular that they are Morita invariant. The twisted equivariant K-theory given by Freed and Moore is a K-theory which unifies twisted equivariant complex K-theory, Atiyah's `Real' K-theory, and their variants. In a general setting, we formulate this K-theory by using Fredholm operators, and establish basic properties such as the Bott periodicity and the Thom isomorphism. We also provide formulations of the K-theory based on Karoubi's gradations in both infinite and finite dimensions, clarifying their relationship with the Fredholm formulation.
We explicitly construct generators of the rational homotopy groups of the space of stable h-cobordisms of the classifying space of a cyclic group of order n by generalizing a construction of Hatcher. This result will be used in a separate paper by the third author to classify axiomatic higher twisted torsion invariants.
In this note, we calculate all untwisted and twisted (Z/2)^n-equivariant K-groups with compact supports of real finite-dimensional linear representations of (Z/2)^n. The question was motivated by the question of D-brane charges for orbifold type II string vacua.
Given a finite group $G$ acting on a ring $R$, Merling constructed an equivariant algebraic $K$-theory $G$-spectrum, and work of Malkiewich and Merling, as well as work of Barwick, provides an interpretation of this construction as a spectral Mackey functor. Extending ideas of twisted equivariant $K$-theory, we construct twisted versions of the representation rings for Lie superalgebras and Lie supergroups, built from projective $\Z_{2}$-graded representations with a given cocycle. We then investigate the pullback and pushforward maps on these representation rings (and their completions) associated to homomorphisms of Lie superalgebras and Lie supergroups. As an application, we consider the Lie supergroup $Π(T^{*}G)$, obtained by taking the cotangent bundle of a compact Lie group and reversing the parity of its fibers. An inclusion $H \hookrightar…
We establish the twisted crystallographic T-duality, which is an isomorphism between Freed-Moore twisted equivariant K-groups of the position and momentum tori associated to an extension of a crystallographic group. The proof is given by identifying the map with the Dirac homomorphism in twisted Chabert--Echterhoff KK-theory. We also illustrate how to exploit it in K-theory computations.
