Let $Λ$ be an artin algebra and $S(Λ)$ the category of all embeddings $(A\subseteq B)$ where $B$ is a finitely generated $Λ$-module and $A$ is a submodule of $B$. Then $S(Λ)$ is an exact Krull-Schmidt category which has Auslander-Reiten sequences. In this manuscript we show that the Auslander-Reiten translation in $S(Λ)$ can be computed within the category of $Λ$-modules by using our construction of minimal monomorphisms. If in addition $Λ$ is uniserial then any nonprojective indecomposable object in $\Cal S(Λ)$ is invariant under the sixth power of the Auslander-Reiten translation.
Let $(\mathscr{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$ be an Ext-finite, Krull-Schmidt and $k$-linear $n$-exangulated category with $k$ a commutative artinian ring. In this note, we prove that $\mathscr{C}$ has Auslander-Reiten-Serre duality if and only if $\mathscr{C}$ has Auslander-Reiten $n$-exangles. Moreover, we also give an equivalent condition for the existence of Serre duality (which is a special type of Auslander-Reiten-Serre duality). Finally, assume further that $\mathscr{C}$ has Auslander-Reiten-Serre duality. We exploit a bijection triangle, which involves the restricted Auslander bijection …
Let $(\mathscr{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$ be an $n$-exangulated category with enough projectives and enough injectives, and $\mathscr{X}$ be a cluster-tilting subcategory of $\mathscr{C}$. Liu and Zhou have shown that the quotient category $\mathscr{C}/\mathscr{X}$ is an $n$-abelian category. In this paper, we prove that if $\mathscr{C}$ has Auslander-Reiten $n$-exangles, then $\mathscr{C}/\mathscr{X}$ has Auslander-Reiten $n$-exact sequences. Moreover, we also show that if a Frobenius $n$-exangulated category $\mathscr{C}$ has Auslander-Reiten $n$-exangles, then the stable category $\overli…
Let $\cal C$ be a $(d+2)$-angulated category. In this note, we show that if $\cal C$ is a locally finite, then $\cal C$ has Auslander-Reiten $(d+2)$-angles. This extends a result of Xiao-Zhu for triangulated categories.
Xiao and Zhu has shown that if $\cal C$ is a locally finite triangulated category, then the Auslander-Reiten triangles generate the relations for the Grothendieck group of $\cal C$. The notion of $(d +2)$-angulated categories is a "higher dimensional" analogue of triangulated categories. In this article, we show that if A $(d+2)$-angulated category $\cal C$ is locally finite if and only if the Auslander-Reiten $(d+2)$-angles generate the relations for the Grothendieck group of $\cal C$. This extends the result of Xiao and Zhu, and gives the converse of Xiao and Zhu's result is also true.
Let $\mathscr{C}$ be a $(d+2)$-angulated category with $d$-suspension functor $Σ^d$. Our main results show that every Serre functor on $\mathscr{C}$ is a $(d+2)$-angulated functor. We also show that $\mathscr{C}$ has a Serre functor $\mathbb{S}$ if and only if $\mathscr{C}$ has Auslander--Reiten $(d+2)$-angles. Moreover, $τ_d=\mathbb{S}Σ^{-d}$ where $τ_d$ is $d$-Auslander-Reiten translation. These results generalize work by Bondal-Kapranov and Reiten-Van den Bergh. As an application, we prove that for a strongly functorially finite subcategory $\mathscr{X}$ of $\mathscr{C}$, the quotient categ…
Let $\mathscr{C}$ be an $n$-exangulated category. In this note, we show that if $\mathscr{C}$ is locally finite, then $\mathscr{C}$ has Auslander-Reiten $n$-exangles. This unifies and extends results of Xiao-Zhu, Zhu-Zhuang, Zhou and Xie-Lu-Wang for triangulated, extriangulated, $(n+2)$-angulated and $n$-abelian categories, respectively.
Auslander-Reiten duality for module categories is generalised to Grothendieck abelian categories that have a sufficient supply of finitely presented objects. It is shown that Auslander-Reiten duality amounts to the fact that the functor Ext^1(C,-) into modules over the endomorphism ring of C admits a partially defined right adjoint when C is a finitely presented object. This result seems to be new even for module categories. For appropriate schemes over a field, the connection with Serre duality is discussed.
An Auslander-Reiten formula for complexes of modules is presented. This formula contains as a special case the classical Auslander Reiten formula. The Auslander-Reiten translate of a complex is described explicitly, and various applications are discussed.
We describe the structure and homological properties of arbitrary generalized standard Auslander-Reiten components of artin algebras. In particular, we prove that for all but finitely many indecomposable modules in such components the Euler characteristic is defined and nonnegative. Further, we provide a handy criterion for an infinite Auslander-Reiten component of an artin algebra to be generalized standard. We solve also the long standing open problem concerning the structure of artin algebras admitting a~separating family of Auslander-Reiten components.
Let $(\mathscr{C},\mathbb{E},\mathfrak{s})$ be an ${\rm Ext}$-finite, Krull-Schmidt and $k$-linear $n$-exangulated category with $k$ a commutative artinian ring. In this note, we define two additive subcategories $\mathscr{C}_r$ and $\mathscr{C}_l$ of $\mathscr{C}$ in terms of the representable functors from the stable category of $\mathscr{C}$ to the category of finitely generated $k$-modules. Moreover, we show that there exists an equivalence between the stable categories of these two full subcategories. Finally, we give some equivalent characterizations on the existence of Auslander-Reiten …
We describe the structure of semi-regular Auslander-Reiten components of artin algebras without external short paths in the module category. As an application we give a complete description of self-injective artin algebras whose Auslander-Reiten quiver admits a regular acyclic component without external short paths.
This article consists of an introduction to Iyama's higher Auslander-Reiten theory for Artin algebras from the viewpoint of higher homological algebra. We provide alternative proofs of the basic results in higher Auslander-Reiten theory, including the existence of $d$-almost-split sequences in $d$-cluster-tilting subcategories, following the approach to classical Auslander-Reiten theory due to Auslander, Reiten, and Smalø. We show that Krause's proof of Auslander's defect formula can be adapted to give a new proof of the defect formula for $d$-exact sequences. We use the defect formula to esta…
We provide sufficient conditions for a component of the Auslander-Reiten quiver of an artin algebra to be determined by the composition factors of its indecomposable modules.
In this article we describe the Auslander-Reiten quiver for some posets with an involution, that we call types $\mathfrak{U}_n$ and $\mathfrak{U}_\infty$. These posets appear in the differentiation III of Zavadskij [12]. We follow the approach to classical Auslander-Reiten theory due to Auslander, Reiten and Smalø[1]. For this purpose, we give a natural exact structure for the category of representations of a partially ordered set with an involution. We describe the projective and injective representations
Let Q be a strongly locally finite quiver and denote by rep(Q) the category of locally finite dimensional representations of Q over some fixed field k. The main purpose of this paper is to get a better understanding of rep(Q) by means of its Auslander-Reiten quiver. To achieve this goal, we define a category C(Q) which is a full, abelian and Hom-finite subcategory of rep(Q) containing all the almost split sequences of rep(Q). We give a complete description of the Auslander-Reiten quiver of C(Q) by describing its connected components. Finally, we prove that these connected components are also c…
Let $A$ be an artin algebra. We show that the bounded homotopy category of finitely generated right $A$-modules has Auslander-Reiten triangles. Two applications are given: (1) we provide an alternative proof of a theorem of Happel in [H2]; (2) we prove that over a Gorenstein algebra, the bounded homotopy category of finitely generated Gorenstein projective (resp. injective) modules admits Auslander-Reiten triangles, which improves a main result in [G].
We analyze Auslander-Reiten components for the bounded derived category of a finite-dimensional algebra. We classify derived categories whose Auslander-Reiten quiver has either a finite stable component or a stable component with finite Dynkin tree class or a bounded stable component. Their Auslander-Reiten quiver is determined. We also determine components that contain shift periodic complexes.
We use $t$-structures on the homotopy category $K^b(R-mod)$ for an artin algebra $R$ and Watts' representability theorem to give an existence proof for Auslander-Reiten sequences of $R$-modules.
We prove that if the Auslander-Reiten triangles generate the relations for the Grothendieck group of a Hom-finite Krull-Schmidt triangulated category with a (co)generator, then the category has only finitely many isomorphism classes of indecomposable objects up to translation. This gives a triangulated converse to a theorem of Butler and Auslander-Reiten on the relations for Grothendieck groups. Our approach has applications in the context of Frobenius categories.
We characterize the generalized Auslander--Reiten duality on the category of finitely presented modules over some certain Hom-finite category. Examples include the category FI of finite sets with injections, and the one VI of finite dimensional vector spaces with linear injections over a finite field.
We classify the Auslander-Reiten components of the bounded derived category of Λ, where Λ is a cluster-tilted of type Ã. The main tool is the combinatoric description of the indecomposable complexes in the bounded homotopy category via homotopy strings and homotopy bands.
For the small half quantum groups and we show that the components of the stable Auslander-Reiten quiver containing gradable modules are of the form Z[A_\infty]
We classify Borel-Schur algebras having finite representation type. We also de- termine Auslander-Reiten sequences for a large class of simple modules over Borel- Schur algebras. A partial information on the structure of the socles of Borel-Schur algebras is given.
Auslander-Reiten duality for module categories is generalized to some sufficiently nice subcategories. In particular, our consideration works for $\mathcal{P}^{<\infty}(Λ)$, the subcategory consisting of finitely generated modules with finite projective dimension over an artin algebra $Λ$, and also, the subcategory of Gorenstein projectove modules of $\rm{mod}\mbox{-}Λ$, denoted by $\rm{Gprj}\mbox{-}Λ$. In this paper, we give a method to compute the Auslander-Reiten translation in $\mathcal{P}^{<\infty}(Λ)$ whenever $Λ$ is a $1$-Gorenstein algebra. In addition, we characterize when the Ausland…
We study the bounded derived category $\D^b(\Rmod)$ of a left Noetherian ring $R$. We give a version of the Generalized Auslander-Reiten Conjecture for $\D^b(\Rmod)$ that is equivalent to the classical statement for the module category and is preserved under derived equivalence.
This paper studies the existence of Auslander-Reiten sequences in subcategories of mod A, where A is a finite dimensional algebra over a field. The two main theorems give necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of Auslander-Reiten sequences in subcategories. Let M be a subcategory of mod A closed under extensions and direct summands, and let X be an indecomposable module in M such that Ext^{1}(X, X') is not zero for some X' in M. Then the following are equivalent: (i) DTrX has a precover in the stable category of mod A, (ii) There exists an Auslander-Reiten sequence 0 --> U --> W…
We deduce a necessary condition for Auslander-Reiten components of the bounded derived category of a finite dimensional algebra to have Euclidean tree class by classifying certain types of irreducible maps in the category of complexes. This result shows that there are only finitely many Auslander-Reiten components with Euclidean tree class up to shift. Also the Auslander-Reiten quiver of certain classes of Nakayama are computed directly and it is shown that they are piecewise hereditary. Finally we state a condition for $\Z[A_{\infty}]$-components to appear in the Auslander-Reiten quiver gener…
In a previous paper, math.AT/0304079, Auslander-Reiten triangles and quivers were introduced into algebraic topology. This paper shows that over a Poincare duality space, each component of the Auslander-Reiten quiver is isomorphic to ZA_{\infty}.
Our main theorem classifies the Auslander-Reiten triangles according to properties of the morphisms involved. As a consequence, we are able to compute the mapping cone of an irreducible morphism. We finish by showing a technique for constructing the connecting component of the derived category of any tilted algebra. In particular we obtain a technique for constructing the derived category of any tilted algebra of finite representation type.
This paper introduces Auslander-Reiten triangles in subcategories of triangulated categories. The main theorem of the paper shows that there is a close connection with covers and envelopes, also known as minimal right- and left-approximations. Namely, under suitable assumptions, if M is an object in the subcategory C of the triangulated category T and X --> Y --> M --> is an Auslander-Reiten triangle in T, then there is an Auslander-Reiten triangle K --> L --> M --> in C if and only if there is a C-cover of the form K --> X. The main theorem is used to give a new proof of the existence of Ausl…
We will revisit Wiedemann's classification of Auslander-Reiten quivers of representation-finite Gorenstein orders in this paper. We give a simpler proof of his result in which he described the Auslander-Reiten quiver of a representation-finite Gorenstein order in terms of a Dynkin diagram, a configuration and an automorphism group. A key notion in his result is configurations described in terms of Brauer relations with so-called Straßeneigenschaft. We show that configurations can be described in terms of $2$-Brauer relations very briefly.
Let $\mathbf{k}$ be an algebraically closed field, let $Λ$ be a finite dimensional $\mathbf{k}$-algebra, and let $\widehatΛ$ be the repetitive algebra of $Λ$. For the stable category of finitely generated left $\widehatΛ$-modules $\widehatΛ$-\underline{mod}, we show that the irreducible morphisms fall into three canonical forms: (i) all the component morphisms are split monomorphisms; (ii) all of them are split epimorphisms; (iii) there is exactly one irreducible component. We next use this fact in order to describe the shape of the Auslander-Reiten triangles in $\widehatΛ$-\underline{mod}. We…
Given an odd prime $p$, we investigate the position of simple modules in the stable Auslander-Reiten quiver of the principal block of a finite group with non-cyclic abelian Sylow $p$-subgroups. In particular, we prove a reduction to finite simple groups. In the case that the characteristic is $3$, we prove that simple modules in the principal block all lie at the end of their components
Quasi-hereditary were introduced by L. Scott \cite{Scott, CPS1,CPS2} in order to deal highest weight categories as they arise in the representation theory of semi-simple complex Lie algebras and algebraic groups, and they have been a very important tool in the study of finite-dimensional algebras. On the other hand, functor categories were introduced in representation theory by M. Auslander [A], [AQM] and used in his proof of the first Brauer-Thrall conjecture [A2] and later on used systematically in his joint work with I. Reiten on stable equivalence [AR], [AR2] and many other applications. R…
Given a finite dimensional algebra over a perfect field the text introduces covering functors over the mesh category of any modulated Auslander-Reiten component of the algebra. This is applied to study the composition of irreducible morphisms between indecomposable modules in relation with the powers of the radical of the module category.
We study Auslander-Reiten components of an artin algebra with bounded short cycles, namely, there exists a bound for the depths of maps appearing on short cycles of non-zero non-invertible maps between modules in the given component. First, we give a number of combinatorial characteri\-zations of almost acyclic Auslander-Reiten components. Then, we show that an Auslander-Reiten component with bounded short cycles is closely related to the connec\-ting component of a tilted quotient algebra. In particular, the number of such components is finite and each of them is almost acyclic with only fini…
Given an exact category $\mathcal{C}$, we denote by $\mathcal{C}_l$ the smallest additive subcategory containing injectives and indecomposable objects which appear as the first term of an almost split conflation. We prove that a deflation is right determined by some object if and only if its intrinsic kernel lies in $\mathcal{C}_l$. We give characterizations for $\mathcal{C}$ having Auslander-Reiten duality.
Recall that an algebraic module is a KG-module that satisfies a polynomial with integer coefficients, with addition and multiplication given by direct sum and tensor product. In this article we prove that non-periodic algebraic modules are very rare, and that if the complexity of an algebraic module is at least 3, then it is the only algebraic module on its component of the (stable) Auslander--Reiten quiver. We include a strong conjecture on the relationship between periodicity and algebraicity.
We recall several results in Auslander-Reiten theory for finite-dimensional algebras over fields and orders over complete local rings. Then we introduce $n$-cluster tilting subcategories and higher theory of almost split sequences and Auslander algebras there. Several examples are explained.
We introduce a notion of generalized Auslander-Reiten duality on a Hom-finite Krull-Schmidt exact category $\mathcal{C}$. This duality induces the generalized Auslander-Reiten translation functors $τ$ and $τ^-$. They are mutually quasi-inverse equivalences between the stable categories of two full subcategories $\mathcal{C}_r$ and $\mathcal{C}_l$ of $\mathcal{C}$. A non-projective indecomposable object lies in the domain of $τ$ if and only if it appears as the third term of an almost split conflation; dually, a non-injective indecomposable object lies in the domain of $τ^-$ if and only if it a…
Let $Λ$ be an artin algebra. The aim of this paper is to outline a strong relationship between the Gabriel-Roiter inclusions and the Auslander-Reiten theory. If $X$ is a Gabriel-Roiter submodule of $Y,$ then $Y$ is shown to be a factor module of an indecomposable module $M$ such that there exists an irreducible monomorphism $X \to M$. We also will prove that the monomorphisms in a homogeneous tube are Gabriel-Roiter inclusions, provided the the tube contains a module whose endomorphism ring is a division ring.
We introduce Auslander-Reiten sequences for group algebras and give several recent applications. The first part of the paper is devoted to some fundamental problems in Tate cohomology which are motivated by homotopy theory. In the second part of the paper we interpret Auslander-Reiten sequences in the context of Galois theory and connect them to some important arithmetic objects.
We provide a combinatorial algorithm for constructing the stable Auslander-Reiten component containing a given indecomposable module of a symmetric special biserial algebra using only information from its underlying Brauer graph. We also show that the structure of the Auslander-Reiten quiver is closely related to the distinct Green walks around the Brauer graph and detail the relationship between the precise shape of the stable Auslander-Reiten components for domestic Brauer graph algebras and their underlying graph. Furthermore, we show that the specific component containing a given simple or…
In this paper, we construct a version of Auslander-Reiten sequences for the $K(n)$-local stable homotopy category. In particular, the role of the Auslander-Reiten translation is played by the local Brown-Comenetz duality functor. As an application, we produce counterexamples to the $K(n)$-local generating hypothesis for all heights $n>0$ and all primes. Furthermore, our methods apply to other triangulated categories, as for example the derived category of quasi-coherent sheaves on a smooth projective scheme.
For an indecomposable module $M$ over a path algebra of a quiver of type $\widetilde{\mathbb A}_n$, the Gabriel-Roiter measure gives rise to four new numerical invariants; we call them the multiplicity, and the initial, periodic and final parts. We describe how these invariants for $M$ and for its dual specify the position of $M$ in the Auslander-Reiten quiver of the algebra.
This work is the sequel to Continuous Quivers of Type A (I). In this paper we define the Auslander-Reiten space of a continuous type $A$ quiver, which generalizes the Auslander-Reiten quiver of type $A_n$ quivers. We prove that extensions, kernels, and cokernels of representations of type $A_{\mathbb R}$ can be described by lines and rectangles in a way analogous to representations of type $A_n$. We provide a similar description for distinguished triangles in the bounded derived category whose first and third terms are indecomposable. Furthermore, we provide a complete classification of Auslan…
In this paper, Auslander-Reiten triangles are introduced into algebraic topology, and it is proved that their existence characterizes Poincare duality spaces. Invariants in the form of quivers are also introduced, and Auslander-Reiten triangles and quivers over spheres are computed. The quiver over the d-dimensional sphere turns out to consist of d-1 components, each isomorphic to ZA_{\infty}. So quivers are sufficiently sensitive invariants to tell spheres of different dimension apart.
We generalize Ringel and Schmidmeier's theory on the Auslander-Reiten translation of the submodule category $\mathcal S_2(A)$ to the monomorphism category $\mathcal S_n(A)$. As in the case of $n=2$, $\mathcal S_n(A)$ has Auslander-Reiten sequences, and the Auslander-Reiten translation $τ_{\mathcal{S}}$ of $\mathcal S_n(A)$ can be explicitly formulated via $τ$ of $A$-mod. Furthermore, if $A$ is a selfinjective algebra, we study the periodicity of $τ_{\mathcal{S}}$ on the objects of $\mathcal S_n(A)$, and of the Serre functor $F_{\mathcal S}$ on the objects of the stable monomorphism category $\…
Auslander-Reiten conjecture, which says that an Artin algebra does not have any non-projective generator with vanishing self-extensions in all positive degrees, is shown to be invariant under certain singular equivalences induced by adjoint pairs, which occur often in matrix algebras, recollements and change of rings. Accordingly, several reduction methods are established to study this conjecture.
