For functions defined via Dirichlet/generalized Dirichlet series in some half planes of the complex plane, we give a new simple elementary approach to obtain an Approximate Functional Equation(AFE for short) for the product of functions with explicit remainder term. We do this,using a highly generalized identity following Motohashi's approach,wherein he uses a generalisation of Dirichlet's device.We use our method to give an AFE for the product of two Dirichlet L-series corresponding to primitive Dirichlet characters with hitherto unknown estimate for its remainder term.We also consideer AFEs of functions on the real line and the AFEs not only of the r-th power of Dirichlet L-series(or,of Riemann Zeta function)but also of the r-th root of it,where r is a positive integer
The error term in the approximate functional equation for exponential sums involving the divisor function will be improved under certain conditions for the parameters of the approximate functional equation.
By simple elementary method,we obtain with ease,a highly simple expression for the remainder term of the divisor problem and use it to obtain an Euler-Maclaurin analogue of summation involving divisor function.We also obtain a relation connecting the remainder term of the divisor problem and the remainders of approximate functional equations for Riemann zeta function and its square,for positive values of arguments.
We analyze the multivariate generalization of Howgrave-Graham's algorithm for the approximate common divisor problem. In the m-variable case with modulus N and approximate common divisor of size N^beta, this improves the size of the error tolerated from N^(beta^2) to N^(beta^((m+1)/m)), under a commonly used heuristic assumption. This gives a more detailed analysis of the hardness assumption underlying the recent fully homomorphic cryptosystem of van Dijk, Gentry, Halevi, and Vaikuntanathan. While these results do not challenge the suggested parameters, a 2^(n^epsilon) approximation algorithm …
We prove two types of functional equations for double series of Euler type with complex coefficients. The first one is a generalization of the functional equation for the Euler double zeta-function, proved in a former work of the second-named author. The second one is more specific, which is proved when the coefficients are Fourier coefficients of cusp forms and the modular relation is essentially used in the course of the proof. As a consequence of functional equation we are able to determine trivial zero divisors.
We prove an abstract modularity result for classes of Heegner divisors in the generalized Jacobian of a modular curve associated to a cuspidal modulus. Extending the Gross-Kohnen-Zagier theorem, we prove that the generating series of these classes is a weakly holomorphic modular form of weight 3/2. Moreover, we show that any harmonic Maass forms of weight 0 defines a functional on the generalized Jacobian. Combining these results, we obtain a unifying framework and new proofs for the Gross-Kohnen-Zagier theorem and Zagier's modularity of traces of singular moduli, together with new geometric i…
We give a new proof of an approximate functional equation, due to J. R. Wilton, for a trigonometric sum involving the divisor function. This allows us to improve on Wilton's error term and to give an explicit formula for an unspecified function involved in the functional equation.
Let $F(s)$ be a function belonging to Selberg class. Chandrasekharan and Narasiman proved the approximate functional equation for $F(s)$. In this paper, we shall generalize this formula for the derivatives of $F(s)$.
As one of the asymptotic formulas of the zeta-function, Hardy and Littlewood gave asymptotic formulas called the approximate functional equation. In this paper, we prove an approximate functional equation of the Barnes double zeta-function $ ζ_2 (s, α; v, w ) = \sum_{m=0}^\infty \sum_{n=0}^\infty (α+vm+wn)^{-s} $. Also, applying this approximate functional equation and the van der Corput method, we obtain upper bounds for $ ζ_2(1/2 + it, α; v, w) $ and $ ζ_2(3/2 + it, α; v, w) $ with respect to $ t $ as $ t \rightarrow \infty $.
We use short divisor sums to approximate prime tuples and moments for primes in short intervals. By connecting these results to classical moment problems we are able to prove that a positive proportion of consecutive primes are within a quarter of the average spacing between primes.
Lavrik and the author gave uniform bounds of the error term in the approximate functional equation for the derivatives of the Hardy's Z-function. We obtain a new bound of this error term which is much better for high order derivatives.
Let $f$ be a holomorphic cusp form of weight $k$ with respect to full modular group $SL_2(\mathbb{Z})$ satisfying a normalized Hecke eigenform, $L_f(s)$ the $L$-function attached to the form $f$. Good gave the approximate functional equation and mean square formula of $L_f(s)$. In this paper, we shall generalize these formulas for the derivatives of $L_f(s)$.
As one of the asymptotic formulas for the zeta-function, Hardy and Littlewood gave asymptotic formulas called the approximate functional equation. In 2003, R. Garunkštis, A. Laurinčikas, and J. Steuding (in [1]) proved the Riemann-Siegel type of the approximate functional equation for the Lerch zeta-function $ ζ_L (s, α, λ) = \sum_{n=0}^\infty e^{2πi n λ}(n + α)^{-s} $. In this paper, we prove another type of approximate functional equations for the Hurwitz and Lerch zeta-functions. R. Garunkštis, A. Laurinčikas, and J. Steuding (in \cite{GLS2}) obtained the results on the mean square values o…
It is known by a formula of Hasse-Sondow that the Riemann zeta function is given, for any $ s=σ+it \in \mathbb{C}$, by $ \sum_{n=0}^{\infty} \widetilde{A}(n,s)$ where $$ \widetilde{A}(n,s):=\frac{1}{2^{n+1}(1-2^{1-s})} \sum_{k=0}^n \binom{n}{k}\frac{(-1)^k}{(k+1)^s} .$$ We prove the following approximate functional equation for the Hasse-Sondow presentation: For $ \vert t \vert = πxy $ and $ 2y \neq (2N-1)π$ then $$ ζ(s)= \sum_{n \leq x } \widetilde{A}(n,s)+\frac{χ(s)}{1-2^{s-1}} \left (\sum_{k \leq y} (2k-1)^{s-1} \right ) +O \left (e^{-ω(x,y) t} \right ), $$ where $ 0 <ω(x,y)$ is a certain t…
This paper develops an analytic theory of Dirichlet series in several complex variables which possess sufficiently many functional equations. In the first two sections it is shown how straightforward conjectures about the meromorphic continuation and polar divisors of certain such series imply, as a consequence, precise asymptotics (previously conjectured via random matrix theory) for moments of zeta functions and quadratic L-series. As an application of the theory, in a third section, we obtain the current best known error term for mean values of cubes of central values of Dirichlet L-series.…
