We compute the monoid $V(L_K(E))$ of isomorphism classes of finitely generated projective modules over certain graph algebras $L_K(E)$, and we show that this monoid satisfies the refinement property and separative cancellation. We also show that there is a natural isomorphism between the lattice of graded ideals of $L_K(E)$ and the lattice of order-ideals of $V(L_K(E))$. When $K$ is the field $\mathbb C$ of complex numbers, the algebra $L_{\mathbb C}(E)$ is a dense subalgebra of the graph $C^*$-algebra $C^*(E)$, and we show that the inclusion map induces an isomorphism between the corresponding monoids. As a consequence, the graph C*-algebra of any row-finite graph turns out to satisfy the stable weak cancellation property.
The assignment (nonstable K_0-theory), that to a ring R associates the monoid V(R) of Murray-von Neumann equivalence classes of idempotent infinite matrices with only finitely nonzero entries over R, extends naturally to a functor. We prove the following lifting properties of that functor: (1) There is no functor F, from simplicial monoids with order-unit with normalized positive homomorphisms to exchange rings, such that VF is equivalent to the identity. (2) There is no functor F, from simplicial monoids with order-unit with normalized positive embeddings to C*-algebras of real rank 0 (resp.,…
In this paper we generalize the notion of a $k$-graph into (countable) infinite rank. We then define our $C^*$-algebra in a similar way as in $k$-graph $C^*$-algebras. With this construction we are able to find analogues to the Gauge Invariant Uniqueness and Cuntz-Krieger Uniqueness Theorems. We also show that the $\mathbb{N}$-graph $C^*$-algebras can be viewed as the inductive limit of $k$-graph $C^*$-algebras. This gives a nice way to describe the gauge-invariant ideal structure. Additionally, we describe the vertex-set for regular gauge-invariant ideals of our $N$-graph $C^*$-algebras. We t…
Motivated by recent results in graph C*-algebras concerning an equivariant pushout structure of the Vaksman-Soibelman quantum odd spheres, we introduce a class of graphs called trimmable. Then we show that the Leavitt path algebra of a trimmable graph is graded-isomorphic to a pullback algebra of simpler Leavitt path algebras and their tensor products.
We introduce a notion of ideal-related K-theory for rings, and use it to prove that if two complex Leavitt path algebras are Morita equivalent (respectively, isomorphic), then the ideal-related K-theories (respectively, the unital ideal-related K-theories) of the corresponding graph C*-algebras are isomorphic. This has consequences for the "Morita equivalence conjecture" and "isomorphism conjecture" for graph algebras, and allows us to prove that when E and F belong to specific collections of graphs whose C*-algebras are classified by ideal-related K-theory, Morita equivalence (respectively, i…
We show the reduced $C^*$-algebra of a graded ample groupoid is a strongly graded $C^*$-algebra if and only if the corresponding Steinberg algebra is a strongly graded ring. We apply this result to get a theorem about the Leavitt path algebra and $C^*$-algebra of an arbitrary graph.
For any countable graph $E$, we investigate the relationship between the Leavitt path algebra $L_{\C}(E)$ and the graph C*-algebra $C^*(E)$. For graphs $E$ and $F$, we examine ring homomorphisms, ring *-homomorphisms, algebra homomorphisms, and algebra *-homomorphisms between $L_{\C}(E)$ and $L_{\C}(F)$. We prove that in certain situations isomorphisms between $L_{\C}(E)$ and $L_{\C}(F)$ yield *-isomorphisms between the corresponding C*-algebras $C^*(E)$ and $C^*(F)$. Conversely, we show that *-isomorphisms between $C^*(E)$ and $C^*(F)$ produce isomorphisms between $L_{\C}(E)$ and $L_{\C}(F)$ …
We show that the endomorphism ring of any nonzero finitely generated projective module over the Leavitt path algebra $L_K(E)$ of an arbitrary graph $E$ with coefficients in a field $K$ is isomorphic to a Steinberg algebra. This yields in particular that every nonzero corner of the Leavitt path algebra of an arbitrary graph is isomorphic to a Steinberg algebra. This in its turn gives that every $K$-algebra with local units which is Morita equivalent to the Leavitt path algebra of a row-countable graph is isomorphic to a Steinberg algebra. Moreover, we prove that a corner by a projection of a $C…
In this article, we introduce Cohn path algebras of higher-rank graphs. We prove that for a higher-rank graph $Λ$, there exists a higher-rank graph $TΛ$ such that the Cohn path algebra of $Λ$ is isomorphic to the Kumjian-Pask algebra of $TΛ$. We then use this isomorphism and properties of Kumjian-Pask algebras to study Cohn path algebras. This includes proving a uniqueness theorem for Cohn path algebras.
Evolution algebras are a special class of non-associative algebras exhibiting connections with different fields of Mathematics. Hilbert evolution algebras generalize the concept through a framework of Hilbert spaces. This allows to deal with a wide class of infinite-dimensional spaces. In this work we study Hilbert evolution algebras associated to a graph. Inspired in definitions of evolution algebras we define the Hilbert evolution algebra associated to a given graph and the Hilbert evolution algebra associated to the symmetric random walk on a graph. For a given graph, we provide conditions …
This introduction to graphs and graph algebras provides the optimal bound for the number of all paths of length $k$ in a graph with $N\geq k$ edges and no loops. Our proof relies on a construction of a number of terminating algorithms that reshape such graphs without ever decreasing the number of paths of length $k$. The key two algorithms work in turns each of them ending with a graph to which the other algorithm can be applied. Finally, one arrives at a specific graph realizing the optimal bound. Herein graph algebras mean path algebras and Leavitt path algebras. For the ground field $\mathb…
The Gelfand-Kirillov dimension is a well established quantity to classify the growth of infinite dimensional algebras. In this article we introduce the algebraic entropy for path algebras. For the path algebras, Leavitt path algebras and the path algebra of the extended (double) graph, we compare the Gelfand-Kirillov dimension and the entropy. We give a complete classification of path algebras over finite graphs by dimension, Gelfand-Kirillov dimension and algebraic entropy. We show indeed how these three quantities are dependent on cycles inside the graph. Moreover we show that the algebraic …
In this work we will study the universal labeling algebra A(Gamma), a related algebra B(Gamma), and their behavior as invariants of layered graphs. We will introduce the notion of an upper vertex-like basis, which allows us to recover structural information about the graph Gamma from the algebra B(Gamma). We will use these bases to show that several classes of layered graphs are uniquely identified by their corresponding algebras B(Gamma).
A digraph is attached to any evolution algebra. This graph leads to some new purely algebraic results on this class of algebras and allows for some new natural proofs of known results. Nilpotency of an evolution algebra will be proved to be equivalent to the nonexistence of oriented cycles in the graph. Besides, the automorphism group of any evolution algebra $E$ with $E=E^2$ will be shown to be always finite.
Given a finite connected bipartite graph, finite-dimensional indecomposable semisimple Leibniz algebras are constructed. Furthermore, any finite-dimensional indecomposable semisimple Leibniz algebra admits a similar construction.
In this paper we show that Leavitt path algebras of weighted graphs and Leavitt path algebras of separated graphs are intimately related. We prove that any Leavitt path algebra $L(E,ω)$ of a row-finite vertex weighted graph $(E,ω)$ is $*$-isomorphic to the lower Leavitt path algebra of a certain bipartite separated graph $(E(ω),C(ω))$. For a general locally finite weighted graph $(E, ω)$, we show that a certain quotient $L_1(E,ω)$ of $L(E,ω)$ is $*$-isomorphic to an upper Leavitt path algebra of another bipartite separated graph $(E(w)_1,C(w)^1)$. We furthermore introduce the algebra $L^{\math…
We introduce the concept of weight graph for the weight system $P\frak{g}(T)$ of a finite dimensional nilpotent Lie algebra $\frak{g}$ and analyze the necessary conditions for a $(p,q)$-graph to be a weight graph for some $\frak{g}$.
The primary purpose of this thesis is to show every ultragraph Leavitt path algebra is Morita equivalent, as a ring, to a graph Leavitt path algebra. Takeshi Katsura, Paul Muhly, Aidan Sims, and Mark Tomforde showed every ultragraph $C^{*}$-algebra is Morita equivalent, in the $C^{*}$-sense, to a graph $C^{*}$-algebra; our result is an algebraic analog of this fact. Further, we will use our result to give an alternate proof for established conditions which guarantee the simplicity of an ultragraph Leavitt path algebra over a field.
We achieve an extremely useful description (up to isomorphism) of the Leavitt path algebra $L_K(E)$ of a finite graph $E$ with coefficients in a field $K$ as a direct sum of matrix rings over $K$, direct sum with a corner of the Leavitt path algebra $L_K(F)$ of a graph $F$ for which every regular vertex is the base of a loop. Moreover, in this case one may transform the graph $E$ into the graph $F$ via some step-by-step procedure, using the "source elimination" and "collapsing" processes. We use this to establish the main result of the article, that every nonzero corner of a Leavitt path algeb…
The purpose of this paper is to provide a common framework for studying various generalizations of Leavitt algebras and Leavitt path algebras. This paper consists of two parts. In part I we define Cohn-Leavitt path algebras of a new class of graphs with an additional structure called bi-separated graphs, which generalize the constructions of Leavitt path algebras of various types of graphs. We define and study the category \textbf{BSG} of bi-separated graphs with appropriate morphisms so that the functor which associates a bi-separated graph to its Cohn-Leavitt path algebra is continuous. We a…
We show that every graded ideal of a Leavitt path algebra is graded isomorphic to a Leavitt path algebra. It is known that a graded ideal $I$ of a Leavitt path algebra is isomorphic to the Leavitt path algebra of a graph, known as the generalized hedgehog graph, which is defined based on certain sets of vertices uniquely determined by $I$. However, this isomorphism may not be graded. We show that replacing the short "spines" of the generalized hedgehog graph with possibly fewer, but then necessarily longer spines, we obtain a graph (which we call the porcupine graph) such that its Leavitt path…
Evolution algebras are a new type of non-associative algebras which are inspired from biological phenomena. A special class of such algebras, called Markov evolution algebras, is strongly related to the theory of discrete time Markov chains. The winning of this relation is that many results coming from Probability Theory may be stated in the context of Abstract Algebra. In this paper we explore the connection between evolution algebras, random walks and graphs. More precisely, we study the relationships between the evolution algebra induced by a random walk on a graph and the evolution algebra…
Associative spectra of graph algebras are examined with the help of homomorphisms of DFS trees. Undirected graphs are classified according to the associative spectra of their graph algebras; there are only three distinct possibilities: constant 1, powers of 2, and Catalan numbers. Associative and antiassociative digraphs are described, and associative spectra are determined for certain families of digraphs, such as paths, cycles, and graphs on two vertices.
In this paper, we construct a bialgebraic and further a Hopf algebraic structure on top of subgraphs of a given graph. Further, we give the dual structure of this Hopf algebraic structure. We study the algebra morphisms induced by graph homomorphisms, and obtain a covariant functor from a graph category to an algebra category.
Uniform Lie algebras are combinatorially defined two-step nilpotent Lie algebras which can be used to define Einstein solvmanifolds. These Einstein spaces often have nontrivial isotropy groups. We derive basic properties of uniform Lie algebras and we classify uniform Lie algebras with five or fewer generators. We define a type of directed colored graph called a uniformly colored graph and establish a correspondence between uniform Lie algebras and uniformly colored graphs. We present several methods of constructing infinite families of uniformly colored graphs and corresponding uniform Lie al…
In this paper we introduce a generalization of a Brauer graph algebra which we call a Brauer configuration algebra. As with Brauer graphs and Brauer graph algebras, to each Brauer configuration, there is an associated Brauer configuration algebra. We show that Brauer configuration algebras are finite dimensional symmetric algebras. After studying and analysing structural properties of Brauer configurations and Brauer configuration algebras, we show that a Brauer configuration algebra is multiserial; that is, its Jacobson radical is a sum of uniserial modules whose pairwise intersection is eith…
To any directed graph we associate an algebra with edges of the graph as generators and with relations defined by all pairs of directed paths with the same origin and terminus. Such algebras are related to factorizations of polynomials over noncommutative algebras. We also construct a basis for our algebras associated to layered graphs.
Quadratic algebras associated to graphs have been introduced by I. Gelfand, S. Gelfand, and Retakh in connection with decompositions of noncommutative polynomials. Here we show that, for each graph with rare triangular subgraphs, the corresponding quadratic algebra is a Koszul domain with global dimension equal to the number of vertices of the graph.
We construct and study a class of algebras associated to generalized layered graphs, i.e. directed graphs with a ranking function on their vertices. Each finite directed acyclic graph admits countably many structures of a generalized layered graph. We construct linear bases in such algebras and compute their Hilbert series. Our interest to generalized layered graphs and algebras associated to those graphs is motivated by their relations to factorizations of polynomials over noncommutative rings.
A necessary and sufficient condition is presented for a graph algebra to satisfy a bracketing identity. The associative spectrum of an arbitrary graph algebra is shown to be either constant or exponentially growing.
We consider a method popular in the literature of associating a two-step nilpotent Lie algebra with a finite simple graph. We prove that the two-step nilpotent Lie algebras associated with two graphs are Lie isomorphic if and only if the graphs from which they arise are isomorphic.
We study generalizations of the "contraction-deletion" relation of the Tutte polynomial, and other similar simple operations, to other graph parameters. The question can be set in the framework of graph algebras introduced by Freedman, Lovasz and Schrijver, and it relates to their behavior under basic graph operations like contraction and subdivision. Graph algebras were introduced to study and characterize homomorphism functions. We prove that for homomorphism functions, these graph algebras have special elements called ``contractors'' and ``connectors''. This gives a new characterization of …
We generalize a result on the Heisenberg Lie algebra that gives restrictions to possible Lie bialgebra cobrackets on 2-step nilpotent algebras with some additional properties. For the class of 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras coming from graphs, we describe these extra properties in a very easy graph-combinatorial way. We exhibit applications for $\mathfrak f_n$, the free 2-step nilpotent Lie algebra.
We study the relation between algebraic structures and Graph Theory. We have defined five different weighted digraphs associated to a finite dimensional algebra over a field in order to tackle important properties of the associated algebras, mainly the nilpotency and solvability in the case of Leibniz algebras.
We give a homological interpretation of the coefficients of the Hilbert series for an algebra associated with a directed graph and its dual algebra. This allows us to obtain necessary conditions for Koszulity of such algebras in terms of homological properties of the graphs. We use our results to construct algebras with a prescribed Hilbert series.
In this paper we find the exchange graph of the rank n binomial Laurent phenomenon algebra associated to the complete graph on n vertices. More specifically, we prove that this exchange graph is isomorphic to that of the rank n linear Laurent phenomenon algebra associated to the complete graph on n vertices discussed in arxiv.org/abs/1206.2612.
