In the present work we use the Levelt's valuation theory to describe all monodromy representations that can be realized by Riemann equation. Also we show that if the monodromy of Riemann equation lies in $SL(2,\mathbb{C})$, then such a monodromy can be realized by a more special Riemann-Sturm-Liouville equation as well. After all the criterion for hypergeometric equation to have monodromy in $SL(2,\mathbb{Z})$ is presented.
We give sufficient conditions, on data including the monodromy representation, the Stokes matrices and the Poincare ranks at prescribed singularities, to solve the generalized Riemann-Hilbert problem with irregular singularities. We recover in particular the irreducibility condition on the monodromy given by Bolibrukh and Kostov in the classical case. We apply the above criteria to solve the inverse problem in differential Galois theory with a better control of the singularities.
The pure braid group Γof a quadruply-punctured Riemann sphere acts on the SL(2,C)-moduli M of the representation variety of such sphere. The points in M are classified into Γ-orbits. We show that, in this case, the monodromy groups of many explicit solutions to the Riemann-Hilbert problem are subgroups of SU(2). Most of these solutions are examples of representations that have dense images in SU(2), but with finite Γ-orbits in M. These examples relate to explicit immersions of constant mean curvature surfaces.
We study the monodromy of meromorphic cyclic $\mathrm{SL}(n,\mathbb{C})$-opers on the Riemann sphere with a single pole. We prove that the monodromy map, sending such an oper to its Stokes data, is an immersion in the case where the order of the pole is a multiple of $n$. To do this, we develop a method based on the work of M. Jimbo, T. Miwa, and K. Ueno from the theory of isomonodromic deformations. Specifically, we introduce a system of equations that is equivalent to the isomonodromy equations of Jimbo-Miwa-Ueno, but which is adapted to the decomposition of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}(n,…
We study a second-order linear differential equation known as the deformed cubic oscillator, whose isomonodromic deformations are controlled by the first Painlev{é} equation. We use the generalised monodromy map for this equation to give solutions to the infinite-dimensional Riemann-Hilbert problems arising from the Donaldson-Thomas theory of the A2 quiver. These are the first known solutions to such problems beyond the uncoupled case. The appendix by Davide Masoero contains a WKB analysis of the asymptotics of the monodromy map.
In this note, we compute the explicit formula of the monodromy data for a generalized Lamé equation when its monodromy is reducible but not completely reducible. We also solve the corresponding Riemman-Hilbert problem.
The Riemann-Wirtinger integral is an analogue of the hypergeometric integral, which is defined as an integral on a one-dimensional complex torus. We study the intersection forms on the twisted homology and cohomology groups associated with the Riemann-Wirtinger integral. We derive explicit formulas of some intersection numbers, and apply them to study the monodromy representation, connection problems, and contiguity relations.
We tackle the Riemann-Hilbert problem on the Riemann sphere as stalk-wise logarithmic modifications of the classical Röhrl-Deligne vector bundle. We show that the solutions of the Riemann-Hilbert problem are in bijection with some families of local filtrations which are stable under the prescribed monodromy maps. We introduce the notion of Birkhoff-Grothendieck trivialisation, and show that its computation corresponds to geodesic paths in some local affine Bruhat-Tits building. We use this to compute how the type of a bundle changes under stalk modifications, and give several corresponding alg…
We study the notion of regular singularities for parameterized complex ordinary linear differential systems, prove an analogue of the Schlesinger theorem for systems with regular singularities and solve both a parameterized version of the weak Riemann-Hilbert Problem and a special case of the inverse problem in parameterized Picard-Vessiot theory.
In this paper we present a general scheme to generate constructive solutions to the Riemann--Hilbert problem via middle convolution and illustrate this approach for a Fuchsian system with four singular points.
In the paper we give an upper estimate of the number of apparent singularities that are sufficient for construction of a system of linear differential equations on a Riemann surface with given fuchsian singularities and monodromy.
The article studies the Fifth Painlevé equation and of the nonlinear Stokes phenomenon at its irregular singularity at infinity from the point of view of confluence from the Sixth Painlevé equation. This approach is developped separately on both sides of the Riemann-Hilbert correspondance. On the side of the nonlinear Painlevé-Okamoto foliation the relation between the nonlinear monodromy group of Painlevé VI and the "nonlinear wild monodromy pseudogroup" of Painlevé V (that is the pseudogroup generated by nonlinear monodromy, nonlinear Stokes operators and nonlinear exponential torus) is expl…
In this paper we give the asymptotic behavior of type I multiple orthogonal polynomials for a Nikishin system of order two with two disjoint intervals. We use the Riemann-Hilbert problem for multiple orthogonal polynomials and the steepest descent analysis for oscillatory Riemann-Hilbert problems to obtain the asymptotic behavior in all relevant regions of the complex plane.
$\bar\partial$-extension of the matrix Riemann-Hilbert method is used to study asymptotics of the polynomials $P_n(z)$ satisfying orthogonality relations \[ \int_{-1}^1 x^lP_n(x)\frac{ρ(x)dx}{\sqrt{1-x^2}}=0, \quad l\in\{0,\ldots,n-1\}, \] where $ρ(x)$ is a positive $m$ times continuously differentiable function on $[-1,1]$, $m\geq3$.
We give an explicit solution of a q-Riemann Hilbert problem which arises in the theory of orthogonal polynomials, prove that it is unique, and deduce several properties. Our new results include the asymptotic behaviour of zeroes in the limit as the degree of the polynomial approaches infinity.
We develop the theory of Riemann-Hilbert problems necessary for the results in part one of this series of papers. In particular, we obtain solutions for a family of non-linear Riemann-Hilbert problems through classical contraction principles and saddle-point estimates. We use compactness arguments to obtain the required smoothness property on solutions. We also consider limit cases of these Riemann-Hilbert problems where the jump function develops discontinuities of the first kind together with zeroes of a specific order at isolated points in the contour. Solutions through Cauchy integrals are…
In this paper we show that the $SL_{2}(\mathbb C)$ character variety of the Riemann sphere $Σ_5$ with five boundary components is a $5$-parameter family of affine varieties of dimension $4$. We endow this family of affine varieties with an action of the braid group and classify exceptional finite orbits. This action represents the nonlinear monodromy of the $2$ variable Garnier system and finite orbits correspond to algebraic solutions.
In this paper we study an analogue of the classical Riemann-Hilbert problem stated for the classes of difference and $q$-difference systems. The Birkhoff's existence theorem was generalized in this paper.
In this paper we study the spectra of bounded self-adjoint linear operators that are related to finite Hilbert transforms $\mathcal{H}_L:L^2([b_L,0])\to L^2([0,b_R])$ and $\mathcal{H}_R:L^2([0,b_R])\to L^2([b_L,0])$. These operators arise when one studies the interior problem of tomography. The diagonalization of $\mathcal{H}_R,\mathcal{H}_L$ has been previously obtained, but only asymptotically when $b_L\neq-b_R$. We implement a novel approach based on the method of matrix Riemann-Hilbert problems (RHP) which diagonalizes $\mathcal{H}_R,\mathcal{H}_L$ explicitly. We also find the asymptotics …
By the method of weight coefficients, techniques of real analysis and Hermite-Hadamard's inequality, a half-discrete Hardy-Hilbert-type inequality related to the kernel of the hyperbolic cosecant function with the best possible constant factor expressed in terms of the extended Riemann-zeta function is proved. The more accurate equivalent forms, the operator expressions with the norm, the reverses and some particular cases are also considered.
We consider matrix orthogonal polynomials related to Jacobi type matrices of weights that can be defined in terms of a given matrix Pearson equation. Stating a Riemann-Hilbert problem we can derive first and second order differential relations that these matrix orthogonal polynomials and the second kind functions associated to them verify. For the corresponding matrix recurrence coefficients, non-Abelian extensions of a family of discrete Painlevé d-PIV equations are obtained for the three term recurrence relation coefficients.
The authors use steepest descent ideas to obtain a priori $L^p$ estimates for solutions of Riemann-Hilbert Problems. Such estimates play a crucial role, in particular, in analyzing the long-time behavior of solutions of the perturbed nonlinear Schrödinger equation on the line.
We describe the close connection between the linear system for the sixth Painlevé equation and the general Heun equation, formulate the Riemann-Hilbert problem for the Heun functions and show how, in the case of reducible monodromy, the Riemann-Hilbert formalism can be used to construct explicit polynomial solutions of the Heun equation.
In this article, we set up a method of reconstructing to polylogarithms $\mathrm{Li}_k(z)$ from zeta values $ζ(k)$ via the Riemann-Hilbert problem. This is referred to as "a recursive Riemann-Hilbert problem of additive type." Moreover, we suggest a framework of interpreting the connection problem of the Knizhnik-Zamolodochikov equation of one variable as a Riemann-Hilbert problem.
We generalize some classical results for the Schlesinger system of partial differential equations and give the explicit form of its solution, associated with rational matrix functions in general position.
In the application of the Deift-Zhou steepest descent method to the Riemann-Hilbert problem for orthogonal polynomials, a model Riemann-Hilbert problem that appears in the multi-cut case is solved with the use of hyperelliptic theta functions. We present here an alternative approach which uses meromorphic differentials instead of theta functions to construct the solution of the model Riemann-Hilbert problem.
We give some additions to the article "On the generalized Riemann-Hilbert problem with irregular singularities" by Bolibruch, Malek, Mitschi (math/0410483). In particular, a weak GRH-problem and the GRH-problem for scalar differential equations are discussed.
In this work, some theorems are established for orthogonal trigonometric polynomials (OTP) including Favard, Baxter, Geronimus, Rakhmanov, Szegö and the strong Szegö theorems which are important in the theory of orthogonal polynomials on the unit circle (OPUC). All these results are based on the mutual representation theorem of OPUC and OTP which deduced by a Riemann-Hilbert problem simultaneously characterizing them. In addition, Szegö recursions, four-term recurrences and some new identities for OPUC and OTP are also obtained by using their Riemann-Hilbert characterizations respectively.
There has been a surge of interest of late in an old result of Nyman and Beurling giving a Hilbert space formulation of the Riemann hypothesis. Many authors have contributed to this circle of ideas, culminating in a beautiful refinement due to Baez-Duarte. The purpose of this little survey is to dis-entangle the resulting web of complications, and reveal the essential simplicity of the main results.
In this article, we derive multiple polylogarithms from multiple zeta values by using a recursive Riemann-Hilbert problem of additive type. Furthermore we show that this Riemann-Hilbert problem is regarded as an inverse problem for the connection problem of the KZ equation of one variable, so that the fundamental solutions to the equation are derived from the Drinfel'd associator by using a Riemann-Hilbert problem of multiplicative type. These results say that the duality relation for the Drinfel'd associator can be interpreted as the solvability condition for this inverse problem.
We show how the Riemann-Hilbert problem can be used to compute correlation kernels for determinantal point processes arising in different models of asymptotic combinatorics and representation theory. The Whittaker kernel and the discrete Bessel kernel are computed as examples.
A novel approach to Riemann--Hilbert problems of particular class is introduced. The approach is applicable to problems in which the multiplicative jump is set on a half-line. Such problems are linked to some Wiener--Hopf problems motivated by diffraction theory. The new approach is based on ordinary differential equations: the Riemann--Hilbert problem is reduced to finding a coefficient of an ordinary differential equation and solving this equation. The new method leads to an efficient numerical algorithm and opens a road to new asymptotical and analytical advances.
For the bi-orthogonal polynomials with the third degree polynomial potential functions, the 3 x 3 matrix Riemann-Hilbert problem is explicitly constructed. The developed approach admits an extension to the bi-orthogonal polynomials with arbitrary polynomial potentials.
In this article we present the hexagon equations for dilogarithms which come from the analytic continuation of the dilogarithm $\mathrm{Li}_2(z)$ to ${\mathbf P}^1 \setminus {0,1,\infty}$. The hexagon equations are equivalent to the coboundary relations for a certain 1-cocycle of holomorphic functions on ${\mathbf P}^1$, and are solved by the Riemann-Hilbert problem of additive type. They uniquely characterize the dilogarithm under the normalization condition.
