We give criteria for framed links and 3-manifolds to be periodic of prime order. As applications we show that the Poincare sphere is of periodicity 2, 3, 5 only and the Brieskorn sphere (2,3,7) is of periodicity 2, 3, 7 only.

An intrinsic approach to invariants of framed links in 3-manifolds

We study framed links in irreducible 3-manifolds that are $Z$-homology 3-spheres or atoroidal $Q$-homology 3-spheres. We calculate the dual of the Kauffman skein module over the ring of two variable power series with complex coefficients. For links in $S^3$ we give a new construction of the classical Kauffman polynomial.

A rank inequality for the annular Khovanov homology of 2-periodic links

For a 2-periodic link $\tilde L$ in the thickened annulus and its quotient link $L$, we exhibit a spectral sequence with $E^1 \cong AKh(\tilde L) \otimes_{\mathbb{F}_2} \mathbb{F}_2[θ, θ^{-1}] \rightrightarrows E^\infty \cong AKh(L) \otimes_{\mathbb{F}_2} \mathbb{F}_2[θ, θ^{-1}].$ This spectral sequence splits along quantum and $sl_2$ weight space gradings, proving a rank inequality $rank\ AKh^{j,k}(L) \leq rank\ AKh^{2j-k,k} (\tilde L)$ for every pair of quantum and $sl_2$ weight space gradings $(j,k)$. Quantum deformations of fundamental groups of oriented 3-manifolds

We compute two-term skein modules of framed oriented links in oriented 3-manifolds. They contain the self-writhe and total linking number invariants of framed oriented links in a universal way. Guts, volume and Skein Modules of 3-manifolds

We consider hyperbolic links that admit alternating projections on surfaces in compact, irreducible 3-manifolds. We show that, under some mild hypotheses, the volume of the complement of such a link is bounded below in terms of a Kauffman bracket function defined on link diagrams on the surface. In the case that the 3-manifold is a thickened surface, this Kauffman bracket function leads to a Jones-type polynomial that is an isotopy invariant of links. Quantum invariants of 3-manifolds via link surgery presentations and non-semi-simple categories

In this paper we construct invariants of 3-manifolds "à la Reshetikhin-Turaev" in the setting of non-semi-simple ribbon tensor categories. We give concrete examples of such categories which lead to a family of 3-manifold invariants indexed by the integers. Invariants of 4-manifolds from Khovanov-Rozansky link homology

We use Khovanov-Rozansky gl(N) link homology to define invariants of oriented smooth 4-manifolds, as skein modules constructed from certain 4-categories with well-behaved duals. The technical heart of this construction is a proof of the sweep-around property, which makes these link homologies well defined in the 3-sphere.

We study Vassiliev invariants of links in a 3-manifold $M$ by using chord diagrams labeled by elements of the fundamental group of $M$. We construct universal Vassiliev invariants of links in $M$, where $M=P^2\times [0,1]$ is a cylinder over the real projective plane $P^2$, $M=Σ\times [0,1]$ is a cylinder over a surface $Σ$ with boundary, and $M=S^1\times S^2$. Quantum cohomology and the periodic Toda lattice

We describe a relation between the periodic one-dimensional Toda lattice and the quantum cohomology of the periodic flag manifold (an infinite-dimensional Kaehler manifold). This generalizes a result of Givental and Kim relating the open Toda lattice and the quantum cohomology of the finite-dimensional flag manifold. We derive a simple and explicit "differential operator formula" for the necessary quantum products, which applies both to the finite-dimensional and to the infinite-dimensional situations.
