Let $m$, $n$ be positive integers such that $m\leq n$. We consider all pairs $(B,A)$ where $B$ is a finite dimensional $T^n$-bounded $k[T]$-module and $A$ is a submodule of $B$ which is $T^m$-bounded. They form the objects of the submodule category $S_m(k[T]/T^n)$ which is a Krull-Schmidt category with Auslander-Reiten sequences. The case $m=n$ deals with submodules of $k[T]/T^n$-modules and has been studied well. In this manuscript we determine the representation type of the categories $S_m(k[T]/T^n)$ also for the cases where $m<n$: It turns out that there are only finitely many indecomposables in $S_m(k[T]/T^n)$ if either $m<3$, $n<6$, or $(m,n)=(3,6)$; the category is tame if $(m,n)$ is one of the pairs $(3,7)$, $(4,6)$, $(5,6)$, or $(6,6)$; otherwise, $S_m(k[T]/T^n)$ has wild representation type. Moreover, in each of the finite or tame cases we describe the indecomposables and picture the Auslander-Reiten quiver.
We construct two functors from the submodule category of a self-injective representation-finite algebra $Λ$ to the module category of the stable Auslander algebra of $Λ$. These functors factor through the module category of the Auslander algebra of $Λ$. Moreover they induce equivalences from the quotient categories of the submodule category modulo their respective kernels and said kernels have finitely many indecomposable objects up to isomorphism. Their construction uses a recollement of the module category of the Auslander algebra induced by an idempotent and this recollement determines a ch…
Throughout this paper, $R$ is an associative ring (not necessarily commutative) with identity and $M$ is a right $R$-module with unitary. In this paper, we introduce a new concept of $ϕ$-prime submodule over an associative ring with identity. Thus we define the concept as following: Assume that $S(M)$ is the set of all submodules of $M$ and $ϕ:S(M)\rightarrow S(M)\cup\{\emptyset\}$ is a function. For every $Y\in S(M)$ and ideal $I$ of $R,$ a proper submodule $X$ of $M$ is called $ϕ$-prime, if $YI\subseteq X$ and $YI\nsubseteqϕ(X),$ then $Y\subseteq X$ or $I\subseteq(X:_{R}M)$. Then we examine …
We give a full classification, in terms of periodic skew diagrams, of irreducible semisimple modules in category O for the degenerate double affine Hecke algebra of type A which can be realized as submodules of Verma modules.
The construction of all irreducible modules of the symmetric groups over an arbitrary field which reduce to Specht modules in the case of fields of characteristic zero is given by G.D.James. Halıcıoğlu and Morris describe a possible extension of James' work for Weyl groups in general, where Young tableaux are interpreted in terms of root systems. In this paper we show how to construct submodules of Specht modules for Weyl groups.
James' submodule theorem is a fundamental result in the representation theory of the symmetric groups and the finite general linear groups. In this note we consider a version of that theorem for a general finite group with a split $BN$-pair. This gives rise to a distinguished composition factor of the Steinberg module, first described by Hiss via a somewhat different method. It is a major open problem to determine the dimension of this composition factor.
We study a relationship between the graded characters of generalized Weyl modules $W_{w λ}$, $w \in W$, over the positive part of the affine Lie algebra and those of specific quotients $V_{w}^- (λ) / X_{w}^- (λ)$, $w \in W$, of the Demazure submodules $V_{w}^- (λ)$ of the extremal weight modules $V(λ)$ over the quantum affine algebra, where $W$ is the finite Weyl group and $λ$ is a dominant weight. More precisely, we prove that a specific quotient of the Demazure submodule is a quantum analog of a generalized Weyl module.
In this paper we determine, under some mild restrictions, the lattice of submodules $\gL$ of a module $M$ all of whose composition factors have multiplicity one. Such a lattice is distributive, and hence determined by its poset of down-sets $P$. We define a directed Ext graph $\Ext_\gL$ of $\gL$ and show that if $\Ext_\gL$ is acyclic, then $\Ext_\gL$ determines $P$. The result applies to multiplicity free indecomposable modules for finite dimensional algebras with acyclic Ext graph. It also applies to some deformed Verma modules which arise in the Jantzen sum formula basic classical simple Lie…
In arXiv:1104.4441 it was shown that any 1-quasi-hereditary algebra affords a particular basis which is related to a given partial order on the set of simple modules. We show that the modules generated by these basis-elements are also modules over the endomorphism algebra of some projective indecomposable modules. In case the Ringel-dual of a 1-quasi-hereditary algebra is also 1-quasi-hereditary, we describe all local Delta-good submodules of projective indecomposable modules. We also consider several examples.
We consider hereditary Artin algebras over arbitrary fields and prove that there is a natural bijection between the Weyl groups and the sets of full additive cofinite submodule closed subcategories of the module categories. While Oppermann, Reiten and Thomas have shown this for algebraically closed fields and finite fields, we give a different method of proof that holds independently of the field. In particular, we show a relatively simple way to construct all modules that contain a given preinjective module as a submodule.
The Lie algebra of vector fields on $R^m$ acts naturally on the spaces of differential operators between tensor field modules. Its projective subalgebra is isomorphic to $sl_{m+1}$, and its affine subalgebra is a maximal parabolic subalgebra of the projective subalgebra with Levi factor $gl_m$. We prove two results. First, we realize all injective objects of the parabolic category O$^{gl_m}(sl_{m+1})$ of $gl_m$-finite $sl_{m+1}$-modules as submodules of differential operator modules. Second, we study projective quantizations of differential operator modules, i.e., $sl_{m+1}$-invariant splittin…
Let F be an algebraically closed field of characteristic p>0. Suppose that SL_{n-1}(F) is naturally embedded into SL_n(F) (either in the top left corner or in the bottom right corner). We prove that certain Weyl modules over SL_{n-1}(F) can be embedded into the restriction L(ω)\downarrow_{SL_{n-1}(F)}, where L(ω) is a simple SL_n(F)-module. This allows us to construct new primitive vectors in L(ω)\downarrow_{\SL_{n-1}(F)} from any primitive vectors in the corresponding Weyl modules. Some examples are given to show that this result actually works.
Let $Λ$ be an artin algebra. We are going to consider full subcategories of $\modΛ$ closed under finite direct sums and under submodules with infinitely many isomorphism classes of indecomposable modules. The main result asserts that such a subcategory contains a minimal one and we exhibit some striking properties of these minimal subcategories. These results have to be considered as essential finiteness conditions for such module categories.
Auslander and Ringel-Tachikawa have shown that for an artinian ring R of finite representation type, every R-module is the direct sum of finitely generated indecomposable R-modules. In this paper, we will adapt this result to finite representation type full subcategories of the module category of an artinian ring which are closed under subobjects and direct sums and contain all projective modules. In particular, the results in this paper hold for subspace representations of a poset, in case this subcategory is of finite representation type.
In general it is a difficult problem to construct the lattice of submodules $L(M)$ of a given module $M$. In \cite{St} R. P. Stanley outlined a method for constucting a distributive lattice from a knowledge of its join irreducibles. However it is not an easy task to identify all join irreducible submodules of a given module. In the case of a multiplicity free module $M$ we present a modifiiction of Stanley's method based on the composition factors of $M$. As input we require a set of submodules $A_1,\ldots , A_n$ whose submodule lattices are known and which contain all composition factors of $…
For $k = 1, 2,...,n-1$ let $V_k = V(λ_k)$ be the Weyl module for the special orthogonal group $G = \mathrm{SO}(2n+1,\F)$ with respect to the $k$-th fundamental dominant weight $λ_k$ of the root system of type $B_n$ and put $V_n = V(2λ_n)$. It is well known that all of these modules are irreducible when $\mathrm{char}(\F) \neq 2$ while when $\mathrm{char}(\F) = 2$ they admit many proper submodules. In this paper, assuming that $\mathrm{char}(\F) = 2$, we prove that $V_k$ admits a chain of submodules $V_k = M_k \supset M_{k-1}\supset ... \supset M_1\supset M_0 \supset M_{-1} = 0$ where $M_i \con…
Let $M$ and $N$ be modules over an artin algebra such that $M$ degenerates to $N$. We show that any submodule of $M$ degenerates to a submodule of $N$. This suggests that a composition series of $M$ will in some sense degenerate to a composition series of $N$. We then study a subvariety of the module variety, consisting of those representations where all matrices are upper triangular. We show that these representations can be seen as representations of composition series, and that the orbit closures describe the above mentioned degeneration of composition series.
Let $Q$ be a wild $n$-Kronecker quiver, i.e., a quiver with two vertices, labeled by 1 and 2, and $n\geq 3$ arrows from 2 to 1. The indecomposable regular modules with preprojective Gabriel-Roiter submodules, in particular, those $τ^{-i}X$ with $\udim X=(1,c)$ for $i\geq 0$ and some $1\leq c\leq n-1$ will be studied. It will be shown that for each $i\geq 0$ the irreducible monomorphisms starting with $τ^{-i}X$ give rise to a sequence of Gabriel-Roiter inclusions, and moreover, the Gabriel-Roiter measures of those produce a sequence of direct successors. In particular, there are infinitely many…
In this paper, we discuss modules and structures of the planar upper triangular rook monoid B_n. We first show that the order of B_n is a Catalan number, then we investigate the properties of a module V over B_n generated by a set of elements v_S indexed by the power set of {1, ..., n}. We find that every nonzero submodule of V is cyclic and completely decomposable; we give a necessary and sufficient condition for a submodule of V to be indecomposable. We show that every irreducible submodule of V is 1-dimensional. Furthermore, we give a formula for calculating the dimension of every submodule…
In this paper, we give a representation-theoretic interpretation of the specialization $E_{w_{\circ} λ} (q,\infty)$ of the nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomial $E_{w_{\circ} λ}(q,t)$ at $t=\infty$ in terms of the Demazure submodule $V_{w_\circ}^{-} (λ)$ of the level-zero extremal weight module $V(λ)$ over a quantum affine algebra of an arbitrary untwisted type, here, $λ$ is a dominant integral weight, and $w_{\circ}$ denotes the longest element in the finite Weyl group $W$. Also, for each $x \in W$, we obtain a combinatorial formula for the specialization $E_{x λ} (q, \infty)$ at $t=\infty$ of th…
For modules over group rings we introduce the following numerical parameter. We say that a module A over a ring R has finite r-generator property if each f.g. (finitely generated) R-submodule of A can be generated exactly by r elements and there exists a f.g. R-submodule D of A, which has a minimal generating subset, consisting exactly of r elements. Let FG be the group algebra of a finite group G over a field F. In the present paper modules over the algebra FG having finite generator property are described.
Let k be an arbitrary field and Q an acyclic quiver of tame type. Consider the path algebra kQ and the category of finite dimensional right modules Mod kQ. In the first part of the paper we deduce that the Gabriel-Roiter inclusions in preprojective indecomposables and simple homogeneous regulars (with dimension the minimal radical vector) as well as their Gabriel-Roiter measures are field independent. Using this result we can prove in a more general setting a theorem by Bo Chen which states that the Gabriel-Roiter submodule of a simple homogeneous regular (with dimension the minimal radical ve…
Recently Tewari and van Willigenburg constructed modules of the 0-Hecke algebra that are mapped to the quasisymmetric Schur functions by the quasisymmetric characteristic and decomposed them into a direct sum of certain submodules. We show that these submodules are indecomposable by determining their endomorphism rings.
We show that the poset of alternating sign matrices, with Bruhat order, is isomorphic to the poset of certain submodules of the dominant Verma module for the special linear Lie algebra $\frak{sl}_n$. The latter poset consists of the intersections of Verma submodules and can also be defined in terms of a Kazhdan-Lusztig cell.
Let g be a semisimple complex Lie algebra and k in g be any algebraic subalgebra reductive in g. For any simple finite dimensional k-module V, we construct simple (g; k)-modules M with finite dimensional k-isotypic components such that V is a k-submodule of M and the Vogan norm of any simple k-submodule V' of M; V' not isomorphic to V, is greater than the Vogan norm of V . The (g; k)-modules M are subquotients of the fundamental series of (g; k)-modules introduced in [PZ2].
Let $Λ$ be an artin algebra and $S(Λ)$ the category of all embeddings $(A\subseteq B)$ where $B$ is a finitely generated $Λ$-module and $A$ is a submodule of $B$. Then $S(Λ)$ is an exact Krull-Schmidt category which has Auslander-Reiten sequences. In this manuscript we show that the Auslander-Reiten translation in $S(Λ)$ can be computed within the category of $Λ$-modules by using our construction of minimal monomorphisms. If in addition $Λ$ is uniserial then any nonprojective indecomposable object in $\Cal S(Λ)$ is invariant under the sixth power of the Auslander-Reiten translation.
In this article we are examining extensions and some basic diagrammatic properties of modules, in both cases from a new, "virtual" point of view. As natural background for investigating the kind of problems we are dealing with, the virtual category of a module M is introduced, having as objects the submodules of M's subquotients modulo some identifications. In the case of extensions our approach implies viewing "proportionality classes" of extensions of (dually, by) a simple module by (resp. of) another simple as quotients of a certain quotient (which is in fact a subdirect product) of a proje…
We compute explicitly the submodule structure of the Young modules for symmetric groups $S_n$ over fields of characteristic 2, when $n \le 7$. We use this information to compute the submodule structure of indecomposable projectives for the corresponding Schur algebras when $n \le 5$, and we give give partial information when n=6,7, including the Gabriel quiver and the structure of the Weyl modules. We resolve all Morita equivalences between blocks of these algebras.
