We prove a sharp analog of Young's inequality on $S^N$, and deduce from it certain sharp entropy inequalities. The proof turns on constructing a nonlinear heat flow that drives trial functions to optimizers in a monotonic manner. This strategy also works for the generalization of Young's inequality on $R^N$ to more than three functions, and leads to significant new information about the optimizers and the constants.
In this article, we study the further refinements and reverses of the Young and Heinz inequalities with the Kantorovich constant. These modified inequalities are used to establish corresponding operator inequalities on Hilbert space and Hilbert-Schmidt norm inequalities.
In this paper, we study refinements of some inequalities related to Young inequality for scalar and for operator. As our main results, we show refined Young inequalities for two positive operators. This results refine the ordering relations among the arithmetic mean, the geometric mean and the harmonic mean. Finally, we give supplements for refined Young inequalities for two positive real numbers. And then we also give operator inequalities based on the supplemental inequalities.
In this paper, we show refined Young inequalities for two positive operators. Our results refine the ordering relations among the arithmetic mean, the geometric mean and the harmonic mean for two positive operators. In addition, we give two different reverse inequalities for the refined Young inequality for two positive operators.
In this paper, we give a new inequality for convex functions of real variables, and we apply this inequality to obtain considerable generalizations, refinements, and reverses of the Young and Heinz inequalities for positive scalars. Applications to unitarily invariant norm inequalities involving positive semidefinite matrices are also given.
We establish upper bounds for the convolution operator acting between interpolation spaces. This will provide several examples of Young Inequalities in different families of function spaces. We use this result to prove a bilinear interpolation theorem and we show applications to the study of bilinear multipliers.
We establish sharp convolution and multiplication estimates in weighted Lebesgue, Fourier Lebesgue and modulation spaces. Especially we recover some known results.
The paper studies Hausdorff-Young inequalities for certain group extensions, by use of Mackey's theory. We consider the case in which the dual action of the quotient group is free almost everywhere. This result applies to yield a Hausdorff-Young inequality for nonunimodular groups.
Two reverse inequalities for Young's inequality were shown by M. Tominaga, using Specht ratio. In this short paper, we show alternative reverse inequalities for Young's inequality without using Specht ratio.
In this paper, sharp results on operator Young's inequality are obtained. We first obtain sharp multiplicative refinements and reverses for the operator Young's inequality. Secondly, we give an additive result, which improves a well-known inequality due to Tominaga. We also provide some estimates for $A{{\sharp}_{v}}B-A{{\nabla }_{v}}B$ in which $v\notin \left[ 0,1 \right]$.
The classical Hausdorff-Young inequalities for the Fourier transform acting between appropriate $L_p$ spaces are cornerstones of Fourier analysis. Here we extend it to weighted spaces of Besov or Sobolev type where the weight has the form $w(x)=(1+|x|^2)^{α/2}$. This note is not a paper or draft but a sketchy complement to some earlier results where we dealt with mapping properties of the Fourier transform.
In this paper, we show that the $ν$-weighted arithmetic mean is greater than the product of the $ν$-weighted geometric mean and Specht's ratio. As a corollary, we also show that the $ν$-weighted geometric mean is greater than the product of the $ν$-weighted harmonic mean and Specht's ratio. These results give the improvements for the classical Young inequalities, since Specht's ratio is generally greater than 1. In addition, we give an operator inequality for positive operators, applying our refined Young inequality.
We study Hausdorff-Young type inequalities for vector-valued Dirichlet series which allow to compare the norm of a Dirichlet series in the Hardy space $\mathcal{H}_{p} (X)$ with the $q$-norm of its coefficients. In order to obtain inequalities completely analogous to the scalar case, a Banach space must satisfy the restrictive notion of Fourier type/cotype. We show that variants of these inequalities hold for the much broader range of spaces enjoying type/cotype. We also consider Hausdorff-Young type inequalities for functions defined on the infinite torus $\mathbb{T}^{\infty}$ or the boolean …
In this article, we prove several multi-term refinements of Young type inequalities for both real numbers and operators improving several known results. Among other results, we prove \begin{eqnarray*} A\#_νB&+&\sum_{j=1}^{N}s_{j}(ν)\left(A\#_{α_j(ν)}B+A\#_{2^{1-j}+α_j(ν)}B-2A\#_{2^{-j}+α_j(ν)}B\right)\leq A\nabla_νB, \end{eqnarray*} for the positive operators $A$ and $B$, where $0\leq ν\leq 1, N\in\mathbb{N}$ and $α_j(ν)$ is a certain function. Moreover, some new Heinz type inequalities involving the Hilbert-Schmidt norm are established.
In this paper we study the vector-valued analogues of several inequalities for the Fourier transform. In particular, we consider the inequalities of Hausdorff--Young, Hardy--Littlewood, Paley, Pitt, Bochkarev and Zygmund. The Pitt inequalities include the Hausdorff--Young and Hardy--Littlewood inequalities and state that the Fourier transform is bounded from $L^p(\mathbb{R}^d,|\cdot|^{βp})$ into $L^q(\mathbb{R}^d,|\cdot|^{-γq})$ under certain condition on $p,q,β$ and $γ$. Vector-valued analogues are derived under geometric conditions on the underlying Banach space such as Fourier type and rela…
A generalization of Young's inequality for convolution with sharp constant is conjectured for scenarios where more than two functions are being convolved, and it is proven for certain parameter ranges. The conjecture would provide a unified proof of recent entropy power inequalities of Barron and Madiman, as well as of a (conjectured) generalization of the Brunn-Minkowski inequality. It is shown that the generalized Brunn-Minkowski conjecture is true for convex sets; an application of this to the law of large numbers for random sets is described.
In this paper, we present some extensions of the Young and Heinz inequalities for the Hilbert-Schmidt norm as well as any unitarily invariant norm. Furthermore, we give some inequalities dealing with matrices. More precisely, for two positive semidefinite matrices $A$ and $B$ we show that \begin{align*} \Big\|A^νXB^{1-ν}+A^{1-ν}XB^ν\Big\|_{2}^{2}\leq\Big\|AX+XB\Big\|_{2}^{2}- 2r\Big\|AX-XB\Big\|_{2}^{2}-r_{0}\left(\Big\|A^{\frac{1}{2}}XB^{\frac{1}{2}}-AX\Big\|_{2}^{2}+ \Big\|A^{\frac{1}{2}}XB^{\frac{1}{2}}-XB\Big\|_{2}^{2}\right), \end{align*} where $X$ is an arbitrary $n\times n$ matrix, $0<ν…
In this note, some refinements of Young inequality and its reverse for positive numbers are proved and using these inequalities some operator versions and Hilbert-Schmidt norm versions for matrices of these inequalities are obtained.
In this paper, we have derived certain classical inequalities, namely, Young's, Hölder's, Minkowski's and Hermite-Hadamard inequalities for pseudo-integral (also known as $g$-integral). For Young's, Hölder's, Minkowski's inequalities, both the cases $p>1$ as well as $p<1,\,p\ne 0$ have been covered. Moreover, in the case of Hermite-Hadamard inequality, a refinement has also been proved and as a special case, $g$-analogue of geometric-logarithmic-arithmetic inequality has been deduced.
The goal of this note is to show that some convolution type inequalities from Harmonic Analysis and Information Theory, such as Young's convolution inequality (with sharp constant), Nelson's hypercontractivity of the Hermite semi-group or Shannon's inequality, can be reduced to a simple geometric study of frames of $\R^2$. We shall derive directly entropic inequalities, which were recently proved to be dual to the Brascamp-Lieb convolution type inequalities.
In this paper we prove new inequalities describing the relationship between the "size" of a function on a compact homogeneous manifold and the "size" of its Fourier coefficients. These inequalities can be viewed as noncommutative versions of the Hardy-Littlewood inequalities obtained by Hardy and Littlewood on the circle. For the example case of the group SU(2) we show that the obtained Hardy-Littlewood inequalities are sharp, yielding a criterion for a function to be in $L^p$ on SU(2) in terms of its Fourier coefficients. We also establish Paley and Hausdorff-Young-Paley inequalities on gener…
In this paper, we prove analogues of Khintchine and Rosenthal's moment inequalities for symmetric statistics (U-statistics) of arbitrary order. An example that shows significance of each term in the analogues of Rosenthal's bounds for symmetric statistics is constructed as well.
A considerable amount of literature in the theory of inequality is devoted to the study of Jensen's and Young's inequality. This article presents a number of new inequalities involving the log-convex functions and the geometrically convex functions. As their consequences, we derive the refinements for Young's inequality and Jensen's inequality. In addition, the operator Jensen's type inequality is also developed for conditioned two functions. Utilizing these new inequalities, we investigate the operator inequalities related to the relative operator entropy.
Some improvements of Young inequality and its reverse for positive numbers with Kontrovich constant are given. Using these inequalities some operator versions and Hilbert-Schmidt norm versions for matrices are proved.
We obtain several versions of the Hausdorff-Young and Hardy-Littlewood inequalities for the $(k,a)$-generalized Fourier transform recently investigated at length by Ben Saï d, Kobayashi, and Ø rsted. We also obtain a number of weighted inequalities - in particular Pitt's inequality - that have application to uncertainty principles. Specifically we obtain several analogs of the Heisenberg-Pauli-Weyl principle for $L^p$-functions, local Cowling-Price-type inequalities, Donoho-Stark-type inequalities and qualitative extensions. We finally use the Hausdorff-Young inequality as a means to obtain en…
We extend some characterizations and inequalities for the eigenvalues of nonnegative matrices, such as Donsker-Varadhan, Friedland-Karlin, Karlin-Ost inequalities, to nonnegative tensors. Our approach involves a correspondence between nonnegative tensors, ergodic control and entropy maximization: we show in particular that the logarithm of the spectral radius of a tensor is given by en entropy maximization problem over a space of occupation measures. We study in particular the tropical analogue of the spectral radius, that we characterize as a limit of the classical spectral radius, and we giv…
We present some reverse Young-type inequalities for the Hilbert-Schmidt norm as well as any unitarily invariant norm. Furthermore, we give some inequalities dealing with operator means. More precisely, we show that if $A, B\in {\mathfrak B}(\mathcal{H})$ are positive operators and $r\geq 0$, $A\nabla_{-r}B+2r(A\nabla B-A\sharp B)\leq A\sharp_{-r}B$ and prove that equality holds if and only if $A=B$. We also establish several reverse Young-type inequalities involving trace, determinant and singular values. In particular, we show that if $A, B$ are positive definite matrices and $r\geq 0$, then …
The generalized Young inequality on the Lorentz spaces for commutative hypergroups is introdused and an application of it is given to the theory of fractional integrals. The boundedness on the Lorentz space and the Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev theorem for the fractional integrals on the commutative hypergroups is proved.
We give some new refinements and reverses Young inequalities in both additive-type and multiplicative-type for two positive numbers/operators. We show our advantages by comparing with known results. A few applications are also given. Some results relevant to the Heron mean are also considered.
We give some new refinements of Heinz inequality and an improvement of the reverse Young's inequality for scalars and we use them to establish new inequalities for operators and the Hilbert-Schmidt norm of matrices. We give a uniformly and abbreviated form of the inequalities presented by Kittaneh and Mansarah, and the inequalities presented by Kai and we obtain some of their operator and matrix versions.
We give the tight bounds of Tsallis relative operator entropy by using Hermite-Hadamard's inequality. Some reverse inequalities related to Young inequalities are also given. In addition, operator inequalities for normalized positive linear map with Tsallis relative operator entropy are given.
Log-Sobolev inequalities (LSIs) upper-bound entropy via a multiple of the Dirichlet form (i.e. norm of a gradient). In this paper we prove a family of entropy-energy inequalities for the binary hypercube which provide a non-linear comparison between the entropy and the Dirichlet form and improve on the usual LSIs for functions with small support. These non-linear LSIs, in turn, imply a new version of the hypercontractivity for such functions. As another consequence, we derive a sharp form of the uncertainty principle for the hypercube: a function whose energy is concentrated on a set of small …
Multivariable operator theory is used to provide Bohr inequalities for free holomorphic functions with operator coefficients on the regular polyball. In addition, we obtain analogues of Caratheodory, Fejer, and Egervary-Szazs inequalities for free holomorhic functions with operator coefficients and positive real parts on the polyball. These results are used to provide multivariable analogues of Landau's inequality and Bohr's inequality when the norm is replaced by the numerical radius of an operator.
We use different approaches to study a generalization of a result of Levin and Stečkin concerning an inequality analogous to Hardy's inequality. Our results lead naturally to the study of weighted remainder form of Hardy-type inequalities.
If $a,b$ are $n\times n$ matrices, Ando proved that Young's inequality is valid for their singular values: if $p>1$ and $1/p+1/q=1$, then $$ λ_k|ab^*|\le λ_k( \frac1p |a|^p+\frac 1q |b|^q ) \, \textit{ for all }k. $$ Later, this result was extended for the singular values of a pair of compact operators acting on a Hilbert space by Erlijman, Farenick and Zeng. In this paper we prove that if $a,b$ are compact operators, then equality holds in Young's inequality if and only if $|a|^p=|b|^q$, obtaining a complete characterization of such $a,b$ in relation to other (operator norm) Young inequalitie…
For a semi-finite von Neumann algebra $\mathcal A$, we study the case of equality in Young's inequality of s-numbers for a pair of $τ$-measurable operators $a,b$, and we prove that equality is only possible if $|a|^p=|b|^q$. We also extend the result to unbounded operators affiliated with $\mathcal A$, and relate this problem with other symmetric norm Young inequalities.
We study autocorrelation inequalities, in the spirit of Barnard and Steinerberger's work. In particular, we obtain improvements on the sharp constants in some of the inequalities previously considered by these authors, and also prove existence of extremizers to these inequalities in certain specific settings. Our methods consist of relating the inequalities in question to other classical sharp inequalities in Fourier analysis, such as the sharp Hausdorff--Young inequality, and employing functional analysis as well as measure theory tools in connection to a suitable dual version of the problem …
We derive the sharp constants for the inequalities on the Heisenberg group H^n whose analogues on Euclidean space R^n are the well known Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequalities. Only one special case had been known previously, due to Jerison-Lee more than twenty years ago. From these inequalities we obtain the sharp constants for their duals, which are the Sobolev inequalities for the Laplacian and conformally invariant fractional Laplacians. By considering limiting cases of these inequalities sharp constants for the analogues of the Onofri and log-Sobolev inequalities on H^n are obtained. The m…
The entropy power inequality, which plays a fundamental role in information theory and probability, may be seen as an analogue of the Brunn-Minkowski inequality. Motivated by this connection to Convex Geometry, we survey various recent developments on forward and reverse entropy power inequalities not just for the Shannon-Boltzmann entropy but also more generally for Rényi entropy. In the process, we discuss connections between the so-called functional (or integral) and probabilistic (or entropic) analogues of some classical inequalities in geometric functional analysis
In this article, we prove that convex functions and log-convex functions obey certain general refinements that lead to several refinements and reverses of well known inequalities for matrices, including Young's inequality, Heinz inequality, the arithmetic-harmonic and the geometric-harmonic mean inequalities.
The optimal constants in a class of exponential type inequalities for the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operator in the Gauss space are detected. The existence of extremal functions in the relevant inequalities is also established. Our results disclose analogies and dissimilarities in comparison with Adams' inequality for the Laplace operator, a companion of our inequalities in the Euclidean space.
This paper is devoted to Hardy type inequalities with remainders for compactly supported smooth functions on open sets in the Euclidean space. We establish new inequalities with weight functions depending on the distance function to the boundary of the domain. One-dimensional $L_1$ and $L_p$ inequalities and their multidimensional analogues are proved. We consider spatial inequalities in open convex domains with the finite inner radius. Constants in these inequalities depend on the roots of parametric Lamb equation for the Bessel function and turn out to be sharp in some particular cases.
The sharp constants in a family of exponential Sobolev type inequalities in Gauss space are exhibited. They constitute the Gaussian analogues of the Moser inequality in the borderline case of the Sobolev embedding in the Euclidean space. Interestingly, the Gaussian results have features in common with the Euclidean ones, but also reveal marked diversities.
This paper is a second one following our work [CLZ13] in series, considering sharp Hardy- Littlewood-Sobolev inequalities on groups of Heisenberg type. The first important breakthrough was made by Frank and Lieb in [FL12]. In this paper, analogous results are obtained for octonionic Heisenberg group.
This paper deals with the inequalities devoted to the comparison between the norm of a function on a compact hypergroup and the norm of its Fourier coefficients. We prove the classical Paley inequality in the setting of compact hypergroups which further gives the Hardy-Littlewood and Hausdorff-Young-Paley (Pitt) inequalities in the noncommutative context. We establish Hörmander's $L^p$-$L^q$ Fourier multiplier theorem on compact hypergroups for $1<p \leq 2 \leq q<\infty$ as an application of Hausdorff-Young-Paley inequality. We examine our results for the hypergroups constructed from the conju…
he octonion offset linear canonical transform can be defined as a time shifted and frequency modulated version of the octonion linear canonical transform, a more general framework of most existing signal processing tools. In this paper, we first define the and provide its closed-form representation. Based on this fact, we study some fundamental properties of proposed transform including inversion formula, norm split and energy conservation. The crux of the paper lies in the generalization of several well known uncertainty relations for the that include Pitts inequality, logarithmic uncertainty…
We prove analogues of the Lieb-Thirring and Hardy-Lieb-Thirring inequalities for many-body quantum systems with fractional kinetic operators and homogeneous interaction potentials, where no anti-symmetry on the wave functions is assumed. These many-body inequalities imply interesting one-body interpolation inequalities, and we show that the corresponding one- and many-body inequalities are actually equivalent in certain cases.
In this paper, we obtained the Dunkl analogy of classical Lp Hardy inequality for $p > N + 2γ$ with sharp constant $\left(\frac{p-N-2γ}{p}\right)^{p}$, where $2γ$ is the degree of weight function associated with Dunkl operators, and $L^p$ Hardy inequalities with distant function in some G-invariant domains. Moreover we proved two sharp Hardy-Rellich type inequalities for Dunkl operators.
