We prove that any compact selfdual Einstein 4-orbifold of positive scalar curvature whose isometry group contains a 2-torus is, up to an orbifold covering, a quaternion Kaehler quotient of (k-1)-dimensional quaternionic projective space by a (k-2)-torus for some $k\geq 2$. We also obtain a topological classification in terms of the intersection form of the 4-orbifold.
A symplectic toric orbifold is a compact connected orbifold $M$, a symplectic form $ω$ on $M$, and an effective Hamiltonian action of a torus $T$ on $M$, where the dimension of $T$ is half the dimension of $M$. We prove that there is a one-to-one correspondence between symplectic toric orbifolds and convex rational simple polytopes with positive integers attached to each facet.
In this short note, we investigate the existence of orbifold Kähler-Einstein metrics on toric varieties. In particular, we show that every $\mathbb{Q}$-factorial normal projective toric variety allows an orbifold Kähler-Einstein metric. Moreover, we characterize the K-stability of $\mathbb{Q}$-factorial toric pairs of Picard number one in terms of the log Cox ring and the universal orbifold cover.
Let O be a symplectic toric 2n-dimensional orbifold with a fixed T^n-action and with a toric Kahler metric g. We previously explored whether, when O is a manifold, the equivariant spectrum of the Laplace operator acting on smooth functions on (O,g) determines the moment polytope of O, and hence by Delzant's theorem determines O up to symplectomorphism. In the setting of toric orbifolds we significantly improve upon our previous results and show that the moment polytope of a generic toric orbifold is determined by its equivariant spectrum, up to two possibilities and up to translation. This inv…
In the first part of the paper, we build a foundation for further work on Hamiltonian actions on symplectic orbifolds. Most importantly we prove the orbifold versions of the abelian connectedness and convexity theorems. In the second half, we prove that compact symplectic orbifolds with completely integrable torus actions are classified by convex simple rational polytopes with a positive integer attached to each facet and that all such orbifolds are algebraic toric varieties.
In the classical theory of toric manifolds polytopes appear in two guises -- as Newton polytopes of line bundles on the complex, and as moment polytopes on the symplectic side, the link between the two being established by the prequantizability condition on the cohomology class of the symplectic form. Here we give a combinatorial description of the orbifold Picard group for complete toric orbifolds, with the aim of detailing the relation between complex and symplectic aspects in the orbifold setting. In particular this permits to illustrate the breakdown of identification of (orbifold) line bu…
A theorem of E.Lerman and S.Tolman, generalizing a result of T.Delzant, states that compact symplectic toric orbifolds are classified by their moment polytopes, together with a positive integer label attached to each of their facets. In this paper we use this result, and the existence of "global" action-angle coordinates, to give an effective parametrization of all compatible toric complex structures on a compact symplectic toric orbifold, by means of smooth functions on the corresponding moment polytope. This is equivalent to parametrizing all toric Kahler metrics and generalizes an analogous…
We provide an explicit resolution of the existence problem for extremal Kaehler metrics on toric 4-orbifolds M with second Betti number b2(M)=2. More precisely we show that M admits such a metric if and only if its rational Delzant polytope (which is a labelled quadrilateral) is K-polystable in the relative, toric sense (as studied by S. Donaldson, E. Legendre, G. Szekelyhidi et al.). Furthermore, in this case, the extremal Kaehler metric is ambitoric, i.e., compatible with a conformally equivalent, oppositely oriented toric Kaehler metric, which turns out to be extremal as well. These results…
Hypertoric varieties are hyperkähler analogues of toric varieties, and are constructed as abelian hyperkähler quotients of a quaternionic affine space. Just as symplectic toric orbifolds are determined by labelled polytopes, orbifold hypertoric varieties are intimately related to the combinatorics of hyperplane arrangements. By developing hyperkähler analogues of symplectic techniques developed by Goldin, Holm, and Knutson, we give an explicit combinatorial description of the Chen-Ruan orbifold cohomology of an orbifold hypertoric variety in terms of the combinatorial data of a rational coorie…
We give an explicit local classification of conformally equivalent but oppositely oriented Kaehler metrics on a 4-manifold which are toric with respect to a common 2-torus action. In the generic case, these structures have an intriguing local geometry depending on a quadratic polynomial and two arbitrary functions of one variable, these two functions being explicit degree 4 polynomials when the Kaehler metrics are extremal (in the sense of Calabi). One motivation for and application of this result is an explicit local description of Einstein 4-manifolds which are hermitian with respect to eith…
We show that any compact convex simple lattice polytope is the moment polytope of a Kähler-Einstein orbifold, unique up to orbifold covering and homothety. We extend the Wang-Zhu Theorem \cite{WZ} giving the existence of a Kähler-Ricci soliton on any toric monotone manifold on any compact convex simple labelled polytope satisfying the combinatoric condition corresponding to monotonicity. We obtain that any compact convex simple polytope $P\subset \bR^n$ admits a set of inward normals, unique up to dilatation, such that there exists a symplectic potential satisfying the Guillemin boundary condi…
An index theorem for the anti-self-dual deformation complex on anti-self-dual orbifolds with cyclic quotient singularities is proved. We present two applications of this theorem. The first is to compute the dimension of the deformation space of the Calderbank-Singer scalar-flat Kahler toric ALE spaces. A corollary of this is that, except for the Eguchi-Hanson metric, all of these spaces admit non-toric anti-self-dual deformations, thus yielding many new examples of anti-self-dual ALE spaces. For our second application, we compute the dimension of the deformation space of the canonical Bochner-…
We discuss the construction of toric Kaehler metrics on symplectic 2n-manifolds with a hamiltonian n-torus action and present a simple derivation of the Guillemin formula for a distinguished Kaehler metric on any such manifold. The results also apply to orbifolds.
We prove the existence of invariant almost complex structure on any positively omnioriented quasitoric orbifold. We construct blowdowns. We define Chen-Ruan cohomology ring for any omnioriented quasitoric orbifold. We prove that the Euler characteristic of this cohomology is preserved by a crepant blowdown. We prove that the Betti numbers are also preserved if dimension is less or equal to six. In particular, our work reveals a new form of McKay correspondence for orbifold toric varieties that are not Gorenstein. We illustrate with an example.
We give a classification of toric anti-self-dual conformal structures on compact 4-orbifolds with positive Euler characteristic. Our proof is twistor theoretic: the interaction between the complex torus orbits in the twistor space and the twistor lines induces meromorphic data, which we use to recover the conformal structure. A compact anti-self-dual orbifold can also be constructed by adding a point at infinity to an asymptotically locally Euclidean (ALE) scalar-flat Kähler orbifold. We use this observation to classify ALE scalar-flat Kähler 4-orbifolds whose isometry group contain a 2-torus.
In this paper, we show that the complete scalar-flat Kahler metrics constructed by Abreu and the author on strictly unbounded toric 4-dimensional orbifolds have finite $L^2$ norm of the full Riemannian tensor. In particular, this answers a question of Donaldon's on the corresponding Generalized Taub-NUT metric on $R^4$. This norm is explicitly determined when the underlying toric manifold is the minimal resolution of a cyclic singularity. In the Ricci-flat case corresponding to gravitational instantons, this recovers a recent result of Atiyah-Lebrun.
We give a correspondence between toric 3-Sasaki 7-manifolds S and certain toric Sasaki-Einstein 5-manifolds M. These 5-manifolds are all diffeomorphic to k#(S^2\times S^3), where k=2b_2(S)+1, and are given by a pencil of Sasaki embeddings of M in S and are given concretely by the zero set of a component of the 3-Sasaki moment map. It follows that there are infinitely many examples of these toric Sasaki-Einstein manifolds M for each odd b_2(M)>1. As an application of the proof of the above, we prove that the local deformation space of ASD structures on a compact toric ASD Einstein orbifold is g…
After observing that the well-known convexity theorems of symplectic geometry also hold for compact contact manifolds with an effective action of a torus whose Reeb vector field corresponds to an element of the Lie algebra of the torus, we use this fact together with a recent symplectic orbifold version of Delzant's theorem due to Lerman and Tolman [LT] to show that every such compact toric contact manifold can be obtained by a contact reduction from an odd dimensional sphere.
On a given compact complex manifold or orbifold $(M,J)$, we study the existence of Hermitian metrics $\tilde g$ in the conformal classes of Kähler metrics on $(M,J)$, such that the Ricci tensor of $\tilde g$ is of type $(1,1)$ with respect to the complex structure, and the scalar curvature of $\tilde g$ is constant. In real dimension $4$, such Hermitian metrics provide a Riemannian counter-part of the Einstein--Maxwell (EM) equations in general relativity, and have been recently studied in \cite{ambitoric1, LeB0, LeB, KTF}. We show how the existence problem of such Hermitian metrics (which we …
