This comment answers a question raised by Kurokawa, Ochiai and Wakayama whether a certain operator constructed using a notion of quantum non-commutativity of primes has eigenvalues related to the Riemann zeta zeros.
The derivation relation is a well known relation among multiple zeta values, which was first obtained by Ihara, Kaneko and Zagier. The analogous formula for finite multiple zeta values, which we call the derivation relation for finite multiple zeta values, was conjectured by the third author and proved by the second author. In this paper, we show these two kinds of derivation relations are respectively equivalent to the Ohno type relations for multiple zeta values and finite multiple zeta values. We also reprove these derivation relations in several different ways.
We take another look at the so-called quasi-derivation relations in the theory of multiple zeta values, by giving a certain formula for the quasi-derivation operator. In doing so, we are not only able to prove the quasi-derivation relations in a simpler manner but also give an analog of the quasi-derivation relations for finite multiple zeta values.
Ihara, Kaneko, and Zagier proved the derivation relation for multiple zeta values. The first named author obtained its counterpart for finite multiple zeta values in $\mathcal{A}$. In this paper, we present its generalization in $\mathcal{A}_{n}$.
We show that the duality relation for the sum of multiple zeta values with fixed weight, depth and $k_1$ is deduced from the derivation relations, which was first conjectured by N. Kawasaki and T. Tanaka.
Two classes of relations for multiple zeta values are handled algebraically. A restricted sum formula is proved by Eie, Liaw and Ong. The derivation relation is proved by Ihara, Kaneko and Zagier. In this paper we show the latter implies the former.
We consider the problem of deducing the duality relation from the extended double shuffle relation for multiple zeta values. Especially we prove that the duality relation for double zeta values and that for the sum of multiple zeta values whose first components are 2's are deduced from the derivation relation, which is known as a subclass of the extended double shuffle relation.
Recently, Masanobu Kaneko introduced a conjecture on an extension of the derivation relation for multiple zeta values. The goal of the present paper is to present a proof of this conjecture by reducing it to a class of relations for multiple zeta values studied by Kawashima. In addition, some algebraic aspects of the quasi-derivation operator $\partial_n^{(c)}$ on $\mathbb{Q}< x,y>$, which was defined by modeling a Hopf algebra developed by Connes and Moscovici, will be presented.
The duality relation is a basic family of linear relations for multiple zeta values. The extended double shuffle relation (EDSR) is one of the families of relations expected to generate all linear relations among multiple zeta values, but it remains unclear as to whether all duality relations can be deduced from the EDSR. In the present paper, regarding the family generated by the duality relation and the family generated by the derivation relation, an explicit characterization of their intersection is obtained. Here, the derivation relation is a specialization of the EDSR.
Rooted tree maps assign to an element of the Connes-Kreimer Hopf algebra of rooted trees a linear map on the noncommutative polynomial algebra in two letters. Evaluated at any admissible word these maps induce linear relations between multiple zeta values. In this note we show that the derivation relations for multiple zeta values are contained in this class of linear relations.
We study absolute zeta functions from the view point of a canonical normalization. We introduce the absolute Hurwitz zeta function for the normalization. In particular, we show that the theory of multiple gamma and sine functions gives good normalizations in cases related to the Kurokawa tensor product. In these cases, the functional equation of the absolute zeta function turns out to be equivalent to the simplicity of the associated non-classical multiple sine function of negative degree.
The absolute zeta function for a scheme $X$ of finite type over $\mathbb{Z}$ satisfying a certain condition is defined as the limit as $p\to 1$ of the congruent zeta function for $X\otimes\mathbb{F}_p$. In 2016, after calculating absolute zeta functions for a few specific schemes, Kurokawa suggested that an absolute zeta function for a general scheme of finite type over $\mathbb{Z}$ should have an infinite product structure which he called the absolute Euler product. In this article, formulating his suggestion using a torsion free Noetherian $\mathbb{F}_1$-scheme defined by Connes and Consani,…
We introduce multiple versions of L-functions for Witten zeta functions. We study their algebraic and analytic properties. Especially we investigate the existence of zeros at negative integers. These results strongly suggest the universal zero at -2. We look at their absolute limits also.
We investigate relations between elliptic multiple zeta values and describe a method to derive the number of indecomposable elements of given weight and length. Our method is based on representing elliptic multiple zeta values as iterated integrals over Eisenstein series and exploiting the connection with a special derivation algebra. Its commutator relations give rise to constraints on the iterated integrals over Eisenstein series relevant for elliptic multiple zeta values and thereby allow to count the indecomposable representatives. Conversely, the above connection suggests apparently new r…
The MZV algebra is the graded algebra over ${\bold Q}$ generated by all multiple zeta values. The stable derivation algebra is a graded Lie algebra version of the Grothendieck-Teichmüller group. We shall show that there is a canonical surjective $\bold Q $-linear map from the graded dual vector space of the stable derivation algebra over $\bold Q$ to the new-zeta space, the quotient space of the sub-vector space of the MZV algebra whose grade is greater than 2 by the square of the maximal ideal. As a corollary, we get an upper-bound for the dimension of the graded piece of the MZV algebra at e…
In this paper, we give Hurwitz-Lerch zeta distributions with $0 < σ\ne 1$ by using the Gamma function. Moreover, we define Hurwitz-Lerch type of Euler-Zagier double zeta distributions not only in the region of absolute convergence but also the outside of the region of absolute convergence.
Let $K$ be a compact set with connected complement on the half-plane Re$(s)>0$, and let $f$ be a continuous function on $K$ which is analytic in its interior. We prove that for any parameter $0<α<1, α\neq \frac 1 2$ then $f(s)$ may be uniformly approximated arbitrarily closely by $ζ(1+iT+iδs,α)$ on $K$ for some $T,δ>0$, where $ζ(s,α)$ denote the Hurwitz zeta-function. This is the first known universality result that is also known to hold for the Hurwitz zeta-function with an algebraic irrational parameter.
In [P] R. Pellikaan introduced a two variable zeta-function for a curve over a finite field and proved that it is a rational function. Here we show that its denominator is absolutely irreducible. This is motivated by work of J. Lagarias and E. Rains on an analogous two variable zeta-funtion for number fields.
Picking binomial coefficients which cannot be divided by a given prime from Pascal's triangle, we find that they form a set with self-similarity. Essouabri studied on a class of meromorphic functions associated to the above set. These functions are related to fractal geometry and it is a problem whether such a function has a non-real pole on its axis of absolute convergence. Essouabri gave a proof of existence of such a non-real pole in the simplest case. The keys of his proof are Stein's and Wilson's estimates on how fast the points multiply in Pascal's triangle modulo a prime. This article w…
The cyclic relation obtained in a study by Hirose, Murakami, and the first-named author, is a wide class of relations, which includes the well-known cyclic sum formula for multiple zeta and zeta-star values, and the derivation relation for multiple zeta values. In this paper, we present its generalization to complex variables. Our proof includes a new proof of the cyclic relation.
For primes $p>3$ we produce a new derivation of the universal $p$-adic sigma function and $p$-adic Weierstrass zeta functions of Mazur and Tate for ordinary elliptic curves by a method that highlights congruences among coefficients in Laurent expansions of elliptic functions, and works simultaneously for generalized elliptic curves defined by Weierstrass equations.
We study the algebra MD of generating function for multiple divisor sums and its connections to multiple zeta values. The generating functions for multiple divisor sums are formal power series in q with coefficients in Q arising from the calculation of the Fourier expansion of multiple Eisenstein series. We show that the algebra MD is a filtered algebra equipped with a derivation and use this derivation to prove linear relations in MD. The (quasi-)modular forms for the full modular group Sl_2(Z) constitute a sub-algebra of MD this also yields linear relations in MD. Generating functions of mul…
In this note, we prove the existence of infinitely many zeros of certain generalized Hurwitz zeta functions in the domain of absolute convergence. This is a generalization of a classical problem of Davenport, Heilbronn and Cassels about the zeros of the Hurwitz zeta function.
In this paper, we give Hurwitz zeta distributions with $0 < σ\ne 1$ by using the Gamma function. During the proof process, we show that the Hurwitz zeta function $ζ(σ,a)$ does not vanish for all $0 <σ<1$ if and only if $a \ge 1/2$. Next we define Euler-Zagier-Hurwitz type of double zeta distributions not only in the region of absolute convergence but also the outside of the region of absolute convergence. Moreover, we show that the Euler-Zagier-Hurwitz type of double zeta function $ζ_2 (σ_1,σ_2\,;a)$ does not vanish when $0<σ_1<1$, $σ_2>1$ and $1<σ_1+σ_2<2$ if and only if $a \ge 1/2$.
For a compact Riemann surface $M$ of genus $g\ge 2$, we study the functional equations of the Selberg zeta functions attached with the Tate motives $f$. We prove that certain functional equations hold if and only if $f$ has the absolute automorphy.
It is shown that the absolute values of Riemann's zeta function and two related functions strictly decrease when the imaginary part of the argument is fixed to any number with absolute value at least 8 and the real part of the argument is negative and increases up to 0; extending this monotonicity to the increase of the real part up to 1/2 is shown to be equivalent to the Riemann Hypothesis. Another result is a double inequality relating the real parts of the logarithmic derivatives of the three functions under consideration.
We consider zeta functions: $Z(f ;P ;s)=\sum_{\m \in \N^{n}} f(m_1,..., m_n) P(m_1,..., m_n)^{-s/d}$ where $P \in \R [X_1,..., X_n]$ has degree $d$ and $f$ is a function arithmetic in origin, e.g. a multiplicative function. In this paper, I study the meromorphic continuation of such series beyond an a priori domain of absolute convergence when $f$ and $P$ satisfy properties one typically meets in applications. As a result, I prove an explicit asymptotic for a general class of lattice point problems subject to arithmetic constraints.
We present a derivation of the numerical phenomenon that differences between the Riemann zeta function's nontrivial zeros tend to avoid being equal to the imaginary parts of the zeros themselves, a property called statistical "repulsion" between the zeros and their differences. Our derivation relies on the statistical properties of the prime zeta function, whose singularity structure specifies the positions of the Riemann zeros. We show that the prime zeta function on the critical line is asymptotically normally distributed with a covariance function that is closely approximated by the logarit…
Several relations are obtained among the Riemann zeta and Hurwitz zeta functions, as well as their products. A particular case of these relations give rise to a simple re-derivation if the important results of [11]. Also, a relation derived here provides the starting point of a novel approach which in a series of companion papers yields a formal proof of the Lindelöf hypothesis. Some of the above relations motivate the need for analysing the large $α$ behaviour of the modified Hurwitz zeta function $ζ_1(s,α)$, $s\in \mathbf{C}$, $α\in \mathbf{R}$, which is also presented here.
The p-cohomology of an algebraic variety in characteristic p lies naturally in the category $D_{c}^{b}(R)$ of coherent complexes of graded modules over the Raynaud ring (Ekedahl-Illusie-Raynaud). We study homological algebra in this category. When the base field is finite, our results provide relations between the the absolute cohomology groups of algebraic varieties, log varieties, algebraic stacks, etc. and the special values of their zeta functions. These results provide compelling evidence that $D_{c}^{b}(R)$ is the correct target for p-cohomology in characteristic p.
We establish a connection between the coefficients of Artin-Mazur zeta-functions and Kummer congruences. This allows to settle positively the question of the existence of a map T such that the number of fixed points of the n-th iterate of T is equal to the absolute value of the 2n-th Euler number. Also we solve a problem of Gabcke related to the coefficients of Riemann-Siegel formula.
We prove that the Voronin universality theorem for the Riemann zeta-function extends to the line Re(s)=1 if in addition to vertical shifts we also allow scaling and adding a sufficiently large constant.
We give a short survey on several developments on the BC-system, the adele class space of the rationals, and on the understanding of the "zeta sector" of the latter space as the Scaling Site. The new result that we present concerns the description of the BC-system as the universal Witt ring (i.e. K-theory of endomorphisms) of the "algebraic closure" of the absolute base S. In this way we attain a conceptual meaning of the BC dynamical system at the most basic algebraic level. Furthermore, we define an invariant of Schwartz kernels in 1 dimension and relate the Fourier transform (in 1 dimension…
Orders of vanishing of zeros of zeta functions have much arithmetic information encoded in them. For the absolute zeta function, Dinesh Thakur gave sufficient conditions for the order of vanishing of its zeros when the finite field has two elements. Such conditions consider only principal ideals. This result was generalized by Thakur and Diaz-Vargas. Now the conditions involve not only the principal ideals but all the classes of ideals, still in the field of two elements. In this work, we generalize these results to arbitrary finite fields, using similar proofs of Thakur and Diaz-Vargas.
We study the meromorphic continuation and the spectral expansion of the oppposite sign Kloosterman sum zeta function, $$(2π\sqrt{mn})^{2s-1}\sum_{\ell=1}^\infty \frac{S(m,-n,\ell)}{\ell^{2s}}$$ for $m,n$ positive integers, to all $s \in \mathbb{C}$. There are poles of the function corresponding to zeros of the Riemann zeta function and the spectral parameters of Maass forms. The analytic properties of this function are rather delicate. It turns out that the spectral expansion of the zeta function converges only in a left half-plane, disjoint from the region of absolute convergence of the Diric…
In this article, we study the zeros of the partial sums of the Dedekind zeta function of a cyclotomic field $K$ defined by the truncated Dirichlet series \[ ζ_{K, X} (s) = \sum_{\|\mathfrak{a}\| \leq X} \frac{1}{\|\mathfrak{a}\|^{s}}, \] where the sum is to be taken over nonzero integral ideals $\mathfrak{a}$ of $K$ and $\|\mathfrak{a}\|$ denotes the absolute norm of $\mathfrak{a}$. Specifically, we establish the zero-free regions for $ζ_{K, X} (s)$ and estimate the number of zeros of $ζ_{K, X} (s)$ up to height $T$.
We introduce Schur multiple zeta functions which interpolate both the multiple zeta and multiple zeta-star functions of the Euler-Zagier type combinatorially. We first study their basic properties including a region of absolute convergence and the case where all variables are the same. Then, under an assumption on variables, some determinant formulas coming from theory of Schur functions such as the Jacobi-Trudi, Giambelli and dual Cauchy formula are established with the help of Macdonald's ninth variation of Schur functions. Moreover, we investigate the quasi-symmetric functions corresponding…
Assuming the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis, Bach has shown that one can calculate the residue of the Dedekind zeta function of a number field K by a clever use of the splitting of primes p < X, with an error asymptotically bounded by 8.33 log D_K/(\sqrt{X}\log X), where D_K is the absolute value of the discriminant of K. Guided by Weil's explicit formula and still assuming GRH, we make a different use of the splitting of primes and thereby improve Bach's constant to 2.33. This results in substantial speeding of one part of Buchmann's class group algorithm.
Under the Riemann Hypothesis, we prove for any natural number $r$ there exist infinitely many large natural numbers $n$ such that $(γ_{n+r}-γ_n)/(2π/\log γ_n) > r + Θ\sqrt{r}$ and $(γ_{n+r}-γ_n)/(2π/\log γ_n) < r - \vartheta\sqrt{r}$ for explicit absolute positive constants $Θ$ and $\vartheta$, where $γ$ denotes an ordinate of a zero of the Riemann zeta-function on the critical line. Selberg published announcements of this result several times but did not include a proof. We also suggest a general framework which might lead to stronger statements concerning the vertical distribution of nontriv…
A recent conjecture of Fyodorov--Hiary--Keating states that the maximum of the absolute value of the Riemann zeta function on a typical bounded interval of the critical line is $\exp\{\log \log T -\frac{3}{4}\log \log \log T+O(1)\}$, for an interval at (large) height $T$. In this paper, we verify the first two terms in the exponential for a model of the zeta function, which is essentially a randomized Euler product. The critical element of the proof is the identification of an approximate tree structure, present also in the actual zeta function, which allows us to relate the maximum to that of…
This paper gives a survey of known results concerning the Laplace transform $$ L_k(s) := \int_0^\infty |ζ(1/2+ ix)|^{2k}{\rm e}^{-sx}{\rm d} x \qquad(k \in N, \R s > 0), $$ and the (modified) Mellin transform $$ {\cal Z}_k(s) := \int_1^\infty|ζ(1/2+ ix)|^{2k}x^{-s}{\rm d} x\qquad(k\in N), $$ where the integral is absolutely convergent for $\R s \ge c(k) > 1$. Also some new results on these integral transforms of $|ζ(1/2+ ix)|^{2k}$ are given, which have important connections with power moments of the Riemann zeta-function $ζ(s)$.
Conrey, Farmer, Keating, Rubinstein, and Snaith, recently conjectured formulas for the full asymptotics of the moments of $L$-functions. In the case of the Riemann zeta function, their conjecture states that the $2k$-th absolute moment of zeta on the critical line is asymptotically given by a certain $2k$-fold residue integral. This residue integral can be expressed as a polynomial of degree $k^2$, whose coefficients are given in exact form by elaborate and complicated formulas. In this article, uniform asymptotics for roughly the first $k$ coefficients of the moment polynomial are derived. Nu…
In this paper, we calculate the absolute tensor square of the Dirichlet $L$-functions and show that it is expressed as an Euler product over pairs of primes. The method is to construct an equation to link primes to a series which has the factors of the absolute tensor product of the Dirichlet $ L $-functions. This study is a generalization of Akatsuka's theorem on the Riemann zeta function, and gives a proof of Kurokawa's prediction proposed in 1992.
We prove a central limit theorem for the real and imaginary part and the absolute value of the Riemann zeta-function sampled along a vertical line in the critical strip with respect to an ergodic transformation similar to the Boolean transformation. This result complements a result by Steuding who has proven a strong law of large numbers for the same system. As a side result we state a general central limit theorem for a class of unbounded observables on the real line over the same ergodic transformation. The proof is based on the transfer operator method.
Given a number field $K$ of degree $n_K$ and with absolute discriminant $d_K$, we obtain an explicit bound for the number $N_K(T)$ of non-trivial zeros (counted with multiplicity), with height at most $T$, of the Dedekind zeta function $ζ_K(s)$ of $K$. More precisely, we show that for $T \geq 1$, $$ \Big| N_K (T) - \frac{T}π \log \Big( d_K \Big( \frac{T}{2πe}\Big)^{n_K}\Big)\Big| \le 0.228 (\log d_K + n_K \log T) + 23.108 n_K + 4.520, $$ which improves previous results of Kadiri and Ng, and Trudgian. The improvement is based on ideas from the recent work of Bennett $et$ $al.$ on counting zeros…
We formulate a parametrized uniformly absolutely globally convergent series of $ζ$(s) denoted by Z(s, x). When expressed in closed form, it is given by Z(s, x) = (s -- 1)$ζ$(s) + 1 x Li s z z -- 1 dz, where Li s (x) is the polylogarithm function. As an immediate first application of the new parametrized series, a new expression of $ζ$(s) follows: (s -- 1)$ζ$(s) = -- 1 0 Li s z z -- 1 dz. As a second important application, using the functional equation and exploiting uniform convergence of the series defining Z(s, x), we have for any non-trivial zero s
We show that the trace formula interpretation of the explicit formulas expresses the counting function N(q) of the hypothetical curve C associated to the Riemann zeta function, as an intersection number involving the scaling action on the adele class space. Then, we discuss the algebraic structure of the adele class space both as a monoid and as a hyperring. We construct an extension R^{convex} of the hyperfield S of signs, which is the hyperfield analogue of the semifield R_+^{max} of tropical geometry, admitting a one parameter group of automorphisms fixing S. Finally, we develop function th…
