We prove a central limit theorem for the real and imaginary part and the absolute value of the Riemann zeta-function sampled along a vertical line in the critical strip with respect to an ergodic transformation similar to the Boolean transformation. This result complements a result by Steuding who has proven a strong law of large numbers for the same system. As a side result we state a general central limit theorem for a class of unbounded observables on the real line over the same ergodic transformation. The proof is based on the transfer operator method.

Differential Birkhoff decomposition and the renormalization of multiple zeta values

In the Hopf algebra approach of Connes and Kreimer on renormalization of quantum field theory, the renormalization process is views as a special case of the Algebraic Birkhoff Decomposition. We give a differential algebra variation of this decomposition and apply this to the study of multiple zeta values.

Algebraic Birkhoff decomposition and its applications

Central in the Hopf algebra approach to the renormalization of perturbative quantum field theory of Connes and Kreimer is their Algebraic Birkhoff Decomposition. In this tutorial article, we introduce their decomposition and prove it by the Atkinson Factorization in Rota-Baxter algebra. We then give some applications of this decomposition in the study of divergent integrals and multiple zeta values.

Nested sums of symbols and renormalised multiple zeta functions

We define discrete nested sums over integer points for symbols on the real line, which obey stuffle relations whenever they converge. They relate to Chen integrals of symbols via the Euler-MacLaurin formula. Using a suitable holomorphic regularisation followed by a Birkhoff factorisation, we define renormalised nested sums of symbols which also satisfy stuffle relations. Nonlinarity of Boolean functions and hyperelliptic curves

We study the nonlinearity of functions defined on a finite field with 2^m elements which are the trace of a polynomial of degree 7 or more general polynomials. We show that for m odd such functions have rather good nonlinearity properties. We use for that recent results of Maisner and Nart about zeta functions of supersingular curves of genus 2. We give some criterion for a vectorial function not to be almost perfect nonlinear.

An ergodic value distribution of certain meromorphic functions

We calculate a certain mean-value of meromorphic functions by using specific ergodic transformations, which we call affine Boolean transformations. We use Birkhoff's ergodic theorem to transform the mean-value into a computable integral which allows us to completely determine the mean-value of this ergodic type. As examples, we introduce some applications to zeta functions and $L$-functions. We also prove an equivalence of the Lindelöf hypothesis of the Riemann zeta function in terms of its certain ergodic value distribution associated with affine Boolean transformations.

Symbolic dynamics and rotation symmetric Boolean functions

We identify the weights $wt(f_n)$ of a family $\{f_n\}$ of rotation symmetric Boolean functions with the cardinalities of the sets of $n$-periodic points of a finite-type shift, recovering the second author's result that said weights satisfy a linear recurrence. Similarly, the weights of idempotent functions $f_n$ defined on finite fields can be recovered as the cardinalities of curves over those fields and hence satisfy a linear recurrence as a consequence of the rationality of curves' zeta functions. On good universality and the Riemann hypothesis

We use subsequence and moving average ergodic theorems applied to Boole's transformation and its variants and their invariant measures on the real line to give new characterisations of the Lindelh{ö}f Hypothesis and the Riemann hypothesis. These ideas are then used to study the value distribution of Dirichlet L series, and the zeta functions of Dedekind, Hurwitz and Riemann and their derivatives. This builds on earlier work of R. L. using Birkhoff's ergodic theorem and probability theory.
