We consider the standing wave solutions of the three dimensional semilinear Schrodinger equation with competing potential functions $V$ and $K$ and under the action of an external electromagnetic vector field $A$. We establish some necessary conditions for a sequence of such solutions to concentrate, in two different senses, around a given point. In the particular but important case of nonlinearities of power type, we prove that the spikes locate at the critical points of a smooth ground energy map independent of $A$.
We consider the inverse problem of Höldder-stably determining the time- and space-dependent coefficients of the Schrödinger equation on a simple Riemannian manifold with boundary of dimension $n\geq2$ from knowledge of the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map. Assuming the divergence of the magnetic potential is known, we show that the electric and magnetic potentials can be Hölder-stably recovered from these data. Here we also remove the smallness assumption for the solenoidal part of the magnetic potential present in previous results.
We study, with respect to the parameter $q\neq0$, the following Schrödinger-Bopp-Podolsky system in $\mathbb R^{3}$ \begin{equation*} \left\{ \begin{aligned} -&Δu+ωu+q^2ϕu=|u|^{p-2}u, \\ &-Δϕ+a^2Δ^2 ϕ= 4πu^2, \end{aligned} \right. \end{equation*} where $p\in(2,3], ω>0, a\geq0$ are fixed. We prove, by means of the fibering approach, that the system has no solutions at all for large values of $q's$, and has two radial solutions for small $q's$. We give also qualitative properties about the energy level of the solutions and a variational characterization of these extremals values of $q$. Our resu…
In this paper we study the asymptotic behavior of a quadratic Schrödinger equation with electromagnetic potentials. We prove that small solutions scatter. The proof builds on earlier work of the author for quadratic NLS with a non magnetic potential. The main novelty is the use of various smoothing estimates for the linear Schrödinger flow in place of boundedness of wave operators to deal with the loss of derivative. As a byproduct of the proof we obtain boundedness of the wave operator of the linear electromagnetic Schrödinger equation on an $L^2$ weighted space for small potentials, as well …
We consider the fractional Schrödinger-Kirchhoff equations with electromagnetic fields and critical nonlinearity $\varepsilon^{2s}M([u]_{s,A_\varepsilon}^2)(-Δ)_{A_\varepsilon}^su + V(x)u =$ $|u|^{2_s^\ast-2}u + h(x,|u|^2)u,$ $\ \ x\in \mathbb{R}^N,$ where $ u(x) \rightarrow 0$ as $|x| \rightarrow \infty,$ and $(-Δ)_{A_\varepsilon}^s$ is the fractional magnetic operator with $0<s<1$, $2_s^\ast = 2N/(N-2s),$ $M : \mathbb{R}^{+}_{0} \rightarrow \mathbb{R}^{+}$ is a continuous nondecreasing function, $V:\mathbb{R}^N \rightarrow \mathbb{R}^+_0,$ and $A: \mathbb{R}^N \rightarrow \mathbb{R}^N$ are t…
This paper shows global uniqueness in an inverse problem for a fractional magnetic Schrödinger equation (FMSE): an unknown electromagnetic field in a bounded domain is uniquely determined up to a natural gauge by infinitely many measurements of solutions taken in arbitrary open subsets of the exterior. The proof is based on Alessandrini's identity and the Runge approximation property, thus generalizing some previous works on the fractional Laplacian. Moreover, we show with a simple model that the FMSE relates to a long jump random walk with weights.
Time-harmonic electromagnetic waves in vacuum are described by the Helmholtz equation $Δu+ω^{2}u=0 $ for $ (x,y,z) \in \mathbb{R}^3 $. For the evolution of such waves along the $z$-axis a Schrödinger equation can be derived through a multiple scaling ansatz. It is the purpose of this paper to justify this formal approximation by proving bounds between this formal approximation and true solutions of the original system. The challenge of the presented validity analysis is the fact that the Helmholtz equation is ill-posed as an evolutionary system along the $z$-axis.
We study the $L^1\to L^\infty$-decay estimates for dispersive equations in the Aharonov-Bohm magnetic fields, and further prove Strichartz estimates for the Klein-Gordon equation with critical electromagnetic potentials. The novel ingredients are the construction of Schwartz kernels of the spectral measure and heat propagator for the Schrödinger operator in Aharonov-Bohm magnetic fields. In particular, we explicitly construct the representation of the spectral measure and resolvent of the Schrödinger operator with Aharonov-Bohm potentials, and show that the heat kernel in critical electromagne…
The Gross-Pitaevskii equation, or more generally the nonlinear Schrödinger equation, models the Bose-Einstein condensates in a macroscopic gaseous superfluid wave-matter state in ultra-cold temperature. We provide analytical study of the NLS with $L^2$ initial data in order to understand propagation of the defocusing and focusing waves for the BEC mechanism in the presence of electromagnetic fields. Numerical simulations are performed for the two-dimensional GPE with anisotropic quadratic potentials.
