Let $M$ be an irreducible projective variety over an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic zero equipped with an action of a group $Γ$. Let $E_G$ be a principal $G$--bundle over $M$, where $G$ is a connected reductive algebraic group over $k$, equipped with a lift of the action of $Γ$ on $M$. We give conditions for $E_G$ to admit a $Γ$--equivariant reduction of structure group to $H$, where $H \subset G$ is a Levi subgroup. We show that for $E_G$, there is a naturally associated conjugacy class of Levi subgroups of $G$. Given a Levi subgroup $H$ in this conjugacy class, $E_G$ admits a $Γ$--equivariant reduction of structure group to $H$, and furthermore, such a reduction is unique up to an automorphism of $E_G$ that commutes with the action of $Γ$.
We classify holomorphic as well as algebraic torus equivariant principal $G$-bundles over a nonsingular toric variety $X$, where $G$ is a complex linear algebraic group. It is shown that any such bundle over an affine, nonsingular toric variety admits a trivialization in equivariant sense. We also obtain some splitting results.
Let $E_G$ be a $Γ$--equivariant algebraic principal $G$--bundle over a normal complex affine variety $X$ equipped with an action of $Γ$, where $G$ and $Γ$ are complex linear algebraic groups. Suppose $X$ is contractible as a topological $Γ$--space with a dense orbit, and $x_0 \in X$ is a $Γ$--fixed point. We show that if $Γ$ is reductive, then $E_G$ admits a $Γ$--equivariant isomorphism with the product principal $G$--bundle $X \times_ρ E_G(x_0)$, where $ρ\,:\, Γ\, \longrightarrow\, G$ is a homomorphism between algebraic groups. As a consequence, any torus equivariant principal $G$-bundle over…
Let $M$ be a smooth complex projective toric variety equipped with an action of a torus $T$, such that the complement $D$ of the open $T$--orbit in $M$ is a simple normal crossing divisor. Let $G$ be a complex reductive affine algebraic group. We prove that an algebraic principal $G$--bundle $E_G\to M$ admits a $T$--equivariant structure if and only if $E_G$ admits a logarithmic connection singular over $D$. If $E_H\to M$ is a $T$-equivariant algebraic principal $H$--bundle, where $H$ is any complex affine algebraic group, then $E_H$ in fact has a canonical integrable logarithmic connection si…
Let G/P be a rational homogeneous variety, where P is a parabolic subgroup of a simple and simply connected linear algebraic group G defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. A homogeneous principal bundle over G/P is semistable (respectively, polystable) if and only if it is equivariantly semistable (respectively, equivariantly polystable). A stable homogeneous principal H-bundle (E_H ,ρ) is equivariantly stable, but the converse is not true in general. If a homogeneous principal H-bundle (E_H ,ρ) is not equivariantly stable but not stable, then E_H admits an action ρ…
Let $X$ be a complete toric variety equipped with the action of a torus $T$ and $G$ a reductive algebraic group, defined over an algebraically closed field $K$. We introduce the notion of a compatible $Σ$--filtered algebra associated to $X$, generalizing the notion of a compatible $Σ$--filtered vector space due to Klyachko, where $Σ$ denotes the fan of $X$. We combine Klyachko's classification of $T$--equivariant vector bundles on $X$ with Nori's Tannakian approach to principal $G$--bundles, to give an equivalence of categories between $T$--equivariant principal $G$--bundles on $X$ and certain…
We give a classification of the equivariant principal $G$-bundles on a nonsingular toric variety when $G$ is a closed Abelian subgroup of $GL_k(\mathbb{C})$. We prove that any such bundle splits, that is, admits a reduction of structure group to the intersection of $G$ with a torus. We give an explicit parametrization of the isomorphism classes of such bundles for a large family of $G$ when $X$ is complete.
We prove a version of Grothendieck's descent theorem on an `enriched' principal fiber bundle, a principal fiber bundle with an action of a larger group scheme. Using this, we prove the isomorphisms of the equivariant Picard and the class groups arising from such a principal fiber bundle.
For a reductive connected group or a finite group over a field of characteristic zero, we define an equivariant algebraic cobordism theory by a generalized version of the double point relation of Levine-Pandharipande. We prove basic properties and the well-definedness of a canonical fixed point map. We also find explicit generators of the algebraic cobordism ring of the point when the group is finite abelian.
Let $X$ be a complex toric variety equipped with the action of an algebraic torus $T$, and let $G$ be a complex linear algebraic group. We classify all $T$-equivariant principal $G$-bundles $\mathcal{E}$ over $X$ and the morphisms between them. When $G$ is connected and reductive, we characterize the equivariant automorphism group $\text{Aut}_T(\mathcal{E} )$ of $\mathcal{E}$ as the intersection of certain parabolic subgroups of $G$ that arise naturally from the $T$-action on $\mathcal{E}$. We then give a criterion for the equivariant reduction of the structure group of $\mathcal{E}$ to a Levi…
In this short note, we prove a comparision theorem between Levine-Serpé's equivariant higher Chow groups of an algebraic variety equipped with an action of a finite group and ordinary higher Chow groups of its fixed points. As a consequence, we show that the equivariant motivic spectral sequence degenerates rationally. This yields a Riemann-Roch Theorem for equivariant algebraic $K$-theory.
We introduce an equivariant algebraic cobordism theory Ω^G for algebraic varieties with G-action, where G is a split diagonalizable group scheme over a field k. It is done by combining the construction of the algebraic cobordism theory Ωby F. Morel and M. Levine, with the notion of (G, F)-formal group law with respect to a complete G-universe and complete G-flag F as introduced by M. Cole, J. P. C. Greenlees and I. Kriz. In particular, we use their corresponding representing ring L_G(F) in place of the Lazard ring L. We show that localization property and homotopy invariance property hold in Ω…
Let $G$ be a simple algebraic group of adjoint type over $\mathbb C$, and let $M$ be the wonderful compactification of a symmetric space $G/H$. Take a $\widetilde G$--equivariant principal $R$--bundle $E$ on $M$, where $R$ is a complex reductive algebraic group and $\widetilde G$ is the universal cover of $G$. If the action of the isotropy group $\widetilde H$ on the fiber of $E$ at the identity coset is irreducible, then we prove that $E$ is polystable with respect to any polarization on $M$. Further, for wonderful compactification of the quotient of $\text{PSL}(n,{\mathbb C})$, $n\,\neq\, 4$…
As a formulation of 'codimension-two arguments' in invariant theory, we define a (rational) almost principal bundle. It is a principal bundle off closed subsets of codimension two or more. We discuss the behavior of the category of reflexive modules over locally Krull schemes, the category of the coherent sheaves which satisfy Serre's condition $(S'_2)$ over Noetherian $(S_2)$ schemes with dualizing complexes, the class group, the canonical module, the Frobenius pushforwards, and global $F$-regularity, of a rational almost principal bundle. We give examples of finite group schemes, multisectio…
Let $P$ be a parabolic subgroup of a connected simply connected complex semisimple Lie group $G$. Given a compact Kähler manifold $X$, the dimensional reduction of $G$-equivariant holomorphic vector bundles over $X\times G/P$ was carried out by the first and third authors. This raises the question of dimensional reduction of holomorphic principal bundles over $X\times G/P$. The method used for equivariant vector bundles does not generalize to principal bundles. In this paper, we adapt to equivariant principal bundles the Tannakian approach of Nori, to describe the dimensional reduction of $G$-…
Let $M$ be a compact connected complex manifold and $G$ a connected reductive complex affine algebraic group. Let $E_G$ be a holomorphic principal $G$--bundle over $M$ and $T\, \subset\, G$ a torus containing the connected component of the center of $G$. Let $N$ (respectively, $C$) be the normalizer (respectively, centralizer) of $T$ in $G$, and let $W$ be the Weyl group $N/C$ for $T$. We prove that there is a natural bijective correspondence between the following two: Torus subbundles $\mathbb T$ of ${\rm Ad}(E_G)$ such that for some (hence every) $x\, \in\, M$, the fiber ${\mathbb T}_x$ lies…
Let $X$ be a connected complex manifold equipped with a holomorphic action of a complex Lie group $G$. We investigate conditions under which a principal bundle on $X$ admits a $G$--equivariance structure.
We compute the weighted Euler characteristic, equivariant with respect to the action of the symplectic group of degree six over the field of two elements, of the moduli space of principally polarized abelian threefolds together with a level two structure.
We show that when a torus $T$ acts on a smooth variety $X$, the twisted HKR isomorphism is equivariant. The main consequence is that the Bezrukavnikov- Lachowska isomorphism, relating the Hochschild cohomology of the principal block of the small quantum group to certain sheaf cohomology groups on the Springer resolution $\widetilde{\mathcal{N}}$ , can be upgraded to a ring isomorphism by a twist.
We prove a parametric Oka principle for equivariant sections of a holomorphic fibre bundle $E$ with a structure group bundle $\mathscr G$ on a reduced Stein space $X$, such that the fibre of $E$ is a homogeneous space of the fibre of $\mathscr G$, with the complexification $K^\mathbb C$ of a compact real Lie group $K$ acting on $X$, $\mathscr G$, and $E$. Our main result is that the inclusion of the space of $K^\mathbb C$-equivariant holomorphic sections of $E$ over $X$ into the space of $K$-equivariant continuous sections is a weak homotopy equivalence. The result has a wide scope; we describ…
Let (X, ω) be a compact connected Kaehler manifold of complex dimension d and E_G a holomorphic principal G-bundle on X, where G is a connected reductive linear algebraic group defined over C. Let Z (G) denote the center of G. We prove that the following three statements are equivalent: (1) There is a parabolic subgroup P of G and a holomorphic reduction of the structure group of E_G to P (say, E_P) such that the bundle obtained by extending the structure group of E_P to L(P)/Z(G) (where L(P) is the Levi quotient of P) admits a flat connection; (2) The adjoint vector bundle ad(E_G) is numerica…
I consider principal Higgs bundles satisfying a notion of numerical flatness (H-nflatness) that was introduced by Bruzzo and Graña Otero. I prove that a principal Higgs bundle $\mathfrak{E}=(E,φ)$ is H-nflat is either stable or there exists a Higgs reduction of $\mathfrak{E}$ to a parabolic subgroup $P$ of $G$ such that the principal $L$-bundle $\mathfrak{E}_L$ obtained by extending the reduced Higgs bundle $\mathfrak{E}_P$ to the Levi factor $L$ is H-nflat and stable; and as consequence, $H^{*}(\mathfrak{E},\mathbb{R})$ is isomorphic to the cohomology ring of the associated graded object $\ma…
Motivated by the study of the structure of algebraic actions the additive group on affine threefolds X, we consider a special class of such varieties whose algebraic quotient morphisms X $\rightarrow$ X//Ga restrict to principal homogeneous bundles over the complement of a smooth point of the quotient. We establish basic general properties of these varieties and construct families of examples illustrating their rich geometry. In particular, we give a complete classification of a natural subclass consisting of threefolds X endowed with proper Ga-actions, whose algebraic quotient morphisms $π$ :…
We survey recent work, published since 2015, on equivariant Oka theory. The main results described in the survey are as follows. Homotopy principles for equivariant isomorphisms of Stein manifolds on which a reductive complex Lie group $G$ acts. Applications to the linearisation problem. A parametric Oka principle for sections of a bundle $E$ of homogeneous spaces for a group bundle $\mathscr G$, all over a reduced Stein space $X$ with compatible actions of a reductive complex group on $E$, $\mathscr G$, and $X$. Application to the classification of generalised principal bundles with a group a…
In this paper we develop an equivariant intersection theory for actions of algebraic groups on algebraic schemes. The theory is based on our construction of equivariant Chow groups. They are algebraic analogues of equivariant cohomology groups which satsify the formal properties of ordinary Chow groups. In addition, they enjoy many of the properties of equivariant cohomology. The principal results are: (1) We prove the existence of canonical intersection products on the Chow groups of geometric quotients of smooth varieties- even when the stabilizers of geometric points are non-reduced. (2) We…
Given a holomorphic principal bundle $Q\, \longrightarrow\, X$, the universal space of holomorphic connections is a torsor $C_1(Q)$ for $\text{ad} Q \otimes T^*X$ such that the pullback of $Q$ to $C_1(Q)$ has a tautological holomorphic connection. When $X\,=\, G/P$, where $P$ is a parabolic subgroup of a complex simple group $G$, and $Q$ is the frame bundle of an ample line bundle, we show that $C_1(Q)$ may be identified with $G/L$, where $L\, \subset\, P$ is a Levi factor. We use this identification to construct the twistor space associated to a natural hyper-Kähler metric on $T^*(G/P)$, reco…
In this paper we classify and give Kazhdan-Lusztig type character formulas for equivariantly irreducible representations of Lie algebras of reductive algebraic groups over a field of large positive characteristic. The equivariance is with respect to a group whose connected component is a torus. Character computation is done in two steps. First, we treat the case of distinguished $p$-characters: those that are not contained in a proper Levi. Here we essentially show that the category of equivariant modules we consider is a cell quotient of an affine parabolic category $\mathcal{O}$. For this, w…
We study Miyaoka-type semistability criteria for principal Higgs G-bundles E on complex projective manifolds of any dimension. We prove that E has the property of being semistable after pullback to any projective curve if and only if certain line bundles, obtained from some characters of the parabolic subgroups of G, are numerically effective. One also proves that these conditions are met for semistable principal Higgs bundles whose adjoint bundle has vanishing second Chern class. In a second part of the paper, we introduce notions of numerical effectiveness and numerical flatness for principa…
In geometric representation theory, one often wishes to describe representations realized on spaces of invariant functions as trace functions of equivariant perverse sheaves. In the case of principal series representations of a connected split reductive group G over a local field, there is a description of families of these representations realized on spaces of functions on G invariant under the translation action of the Iwahori subgroup, or a suitable smaller compact open subgroup, studied by Howe, Bushnell and Kutzko, Roche, and others. In this paper, we construct categories of perverse shea…
Given a complex projective algebraic variety, write H(X) for its cohomology with complex coefficients and IH(X) for its Intersection cohomology. We first show that, under some fairly general conditions, the canonical map H(X)\to IH(X) is injective. Now let Gr = G((z))/G[[z]] be the loop Grassmannian for a complex semisimple group G, and let X be the closure of a G[[z]]-orbit in Gr. We prove, using the general result above, a conjecture of D. Peterson describing the cohomology algebra H(X) in terms of the centralizer of the principal nilpotent in the Langlands dual of Lie(G). In the last sectio…
We prove that the structure algebra of a Bruhat moment graph of a finite real root system is a Hopf algebroid with respect to the Hecke and the Weyl actions. We introduce new techniques (reconstruction and push-forward formula of a product, twisted coproduct, double quotients of bimodules) and apply them together with our main result to linear algebraic groups, to generalized Schubert calculus, to combinatorics of Coxeter groups and finite real root systems. As for groups, it implies that the natural Hopf-algebra structure on the algebraic oriented cohomology $h(G)$ of Levine-Morel of a split …
