We define an invariant $l(M,W,ω)$ for Lagrangian submanifold and prove that if the Lagrangian submanifold is embedded in the ball of radius $r_0$, then $l(M,W,Ω)$ must be smaller than $4πt_0^2$. This improves Gromov's Lagrangian embedding theorem.
Capacities that provide both qualitative and quantitative obstructions to the existence of a Lagrangian cobordism between two $(n-1)$-dimensional submanifolds in parallel hyperplanes of $\mathbb{R}^{2n}$ are defined using the theory of generating families. Qualitatively, these capacities show that, for example, in $\mathbb R^4$ there is no Lagrangian cobordism between two $\infty$-shaped curves with a negative crossing when the lower end is "smaller". Quantitatively, when the boundary of a Lagrangian ball lies in a hyperplane of $\mathbb{R}^{2n}$, the capacity of the boundary gives a restricti…
We prove that if the unit codisc bundle of a closed Riemannian manifold embeds symplectically into a symplectic cylinder of radius one then the length of the shortest nontrivial closed geodesic is at most half the area of the unit disc.
We prove a compactness result for holomorphic curves with boundary on an immersed Lagrangian submanifold with clean self-intersection. As a consequence, we show that the number of intersections of such holomorphic curves with the self-intersection locus is uniformly bounded in terms of the Hofer energy.
For a given embedded Lagrangian in the complement of a complex hypersurface we show existence of a holomorphic disc in the complement having boundary on that Lagrangian.
We use a neck stretching argument for holomorphic curves to produce symplectic disks of small area and Maslov class with boundary on Lagrangian submanifolds of nonpositive curvature. Applications include the proof of Audin's conjecture on the Maslov class of Lagrangian tori in linear symplectic space, the construction of a new symplectic capacity, obstructions to Lagrangian embeddings into uniruled symplectic manifolds, a quantitative version of Arnold's chord conjecture, and estimates on the size of Weinstein neighbourhoods. The main technical ingredient is transversality for the relevant mod…
We explain how to generalize Lazzarini's structural Theorem from [Laz11] to the case of curves with boundary on a given Lagrangian immersion. As a consequence of this result, we show that we can compute Floer homology with time-independent almost complex structures. We also give some applications as well as topics for future work.
Our main result is the $\mathcal{C}^0$-rigidity of the area spectrum and the Maslov class of Lagrangian submanifolds. This relies on the existence of punctured pseudoholomorphic discs in cotangent bundles with boundary on the zero section, whose boundaries represent any integral homology class. We discuss further applications of these punctured discs in symplectic geometry.
For the sake of hyperk{ä}hler SYZ conjecture, finding holomorphic Lagrangian fibrations becomes an important issue. Toric hyperk{ä}hler manifolds are real dimension $4n$ non-compact hyperk{ä}hler manifolds which are quaternion analog of toric varieties. The $n$ dimensional residue circle action on it admitting a hyperk{ä}hler moment map. We use the complex part of this moment map to construct a holomorphic Lagrangian fibration with generic fiber diffeomorphic to $(\mathbb{C}^*)^n$, and study the singular fibers.
In his 1989 paper, Floer established a connection between holomorphic strips with boundary on a Lagrangian $L$ and a small Hamiltonian push-off $L_{f}$, and gradient flow lines for the function $f$. The present paper studies the compactness theory for holomorphic curves $u_{n}$ whose boundary components lie on Hamiltonian perturbations $L_{n}^{1},\dots,L^{N}_{n}$ of a fixed Lagrangian $L$, where each sequence of nearby Lagrangians $L^{j}_{n}$ converges to $L$ as $n\to\infty$. Generalizing earlier work of Oh, Fukaya, Ekholm, and Zhu, we prove that the limit of a sequence of such holomorphic map…
We consider a fibered Lagrangian $L$ in a compact symplectic fibration with small monotone fibers, and develop a strategy for lifting $J$-holomorphic disks with Lagrangian boundary from the base to the total space. In case $L$ is a product, we use this machinery to give a formula for the leading order potential and formulate an unobstructedness criteria for the $A_\infty$ algebra. We provide some explicit computations, one of which involves finding an embedded 2n+k dimensional submanifold of Floer-non-trivial tori in a 2n+2k dimensional fiber bundle.
Let X be a compact complex manifold, $D_c^b(X)$ be the bounded derived category of constructible sheaves on $X$, and $Fuk(T^*X)$ be the Fukaya category of $T^*X$. A Lagrangian brane in $Fuk(T^*X)$ is holomorphic if the underlying Lagrangian submanifold is complex analytic in $T^*X_{\mathbb{C}}$, the holomorphic cotangent bundle of $X$. We prove that under the quasi-equivalence between $D^b_c(X)$ and $DFuk(T^*X)$ established in [NaZa09] and [Nad09], holomorphic Lagrangian branes with appropriate grading correspond to perverse sheaves.
We define a new family of open Gromov-Witten type invariants based on intersection theory on the moduli space of pseudoholomorphic curves of arbitrary genus with boundary in a Lagrangian submanifold. We assume the Lagrangian submanifold arises as the fixed points of an anti-symplectic involution and has dimension 2 or 3. In the strongly semi-positive genus 0 case, the new invariants coincide with Welschinger's invariant counts of real pseudoholomorphic curves. Furthermore, we calculate the new invariant for the real quintic threefold in genus 0 and degree 1 to be 30.
The mirror of a projective toric manifold $X_Σ$ is given by a Landau-Ginzburg model $(Y,W)$. We introduce a class of Lagrangian submanifolds in $(Y,W)$ and show that, under the SYZ mirror transformation, they can be transformed to torus-invariant hermitian metrics on holomorphic line bundles over $X_Σ$. Through this geometric correspondence, we also identify the mirrors of Hermitian-Einstein metrics, which are given by distinguished Lagrangian sections whose potentials satisfy certain Laplace-type equations.
The purpose of this paper is to carry out a classical construction of a non-constant holomorphic disk with boundary on (the suspension of) a Lagrangian submanifold in $\mathbb{R}^{2 n}$ in the case the Lagrangian is the lift of a coisotropic (a.k.a. pre-Lagrangian) submanifold in (a subset $U$ of) $\mathbb{R}^{2 n - 1}$. We show that the positive lower and finite upper bounds for the area of such a disk (which are due to M. Gromov and J.-C. Sikorav and F. Laudenbach-Sikorav for general Lagrangians) depend on the coisotropic submanifold only but not on its lift to the symplectization. The main …
Let $(M,I,J,K,g)$ be a hyperkähler manifold. Then the complex manifold $(M,I)$ is holomorphic symplectic. We prove that for all real $x, y,$ with $x^2 + y^2 = 1$ except countably many, any finite energy $(xJ+yK)$-holomorphic curve with boundary in a collection of $I$-holomorphic Lagrangians must be constant. By an argument based on the Lojasiewicz inequality, this result holds no matter how the Lagrangians intersect each other. It follows that one can choose perturbations such that the holomorphic polygons of the associated Fukaya category lie in an arbitrarily small neighborhood of the Lagran…
In this paper, we give a formula for the Maslov index of a gradient holomorphic disc, which is a relative version of the Chern number formula of a gradient holomorphic sphere for a Hamiltonian $S^1$-action. Using the formula, we classify all monotone Lagrangian non-toric fibers of Gelfand-Cetlin systems on partial flag manifolds.
Let $(X,ω)$ be a symplectic manifold, $J$ be an $ω$-tame almost complex structure, and $L$ be a Lagrangian submanifold. The stable compactification of the moduli space of parametrized $J$-holomorphic curves in $X$ with boundary in $L$ (with prescribed topological data) is compact and Hausdorff in Gromov's $C^\infty$-topology. We construct a Kuranishi structure with corners in the sense of Fukaya and Ono. This Kuranishi structure is orientable if $L$ is spin. In the special case where the expected dimension of the moduli space is zero, and there is an $S^1$ action on the pair $(X,L)$ which pres…
The main theme of this paper is the Thomas-Yau conjecture, primarily in the setting of exact, (quantitatively) almost calibrated, unobstructed Lagrangian branes inside Calabi-Yau Stein manifolds. In our interpretation, the conjecture is that Thomas-Yau semistability is equivalent to the existence of special Lagrangian representatives. We clarify how holomorphic curves enter this conjectural picture, through the construction of bordism currents between Lagrangians, and in the definition of the Solomon functional. Under some extra hypothesis, we shall prove Floer theoretic obstructions to the ex…
We prove (a weak version of) Arnold's Chord Conjecture using Gromov's ``classical'' idea in to produce holomorphic disks with boundary on a Lagrangian submanifold.
We set up a topological framework for degenerations of symplectic manifolds into singular spaces paying a special attention to the behavior of Lagrangian manifolds and their (holomorphic) membranes. We show that degenerations into singular toric varieties provide a source of exotic Lagrangian tori.
In this article we study complex properties of minimal Lagrangian submanifolds in Kaehler ambient spaces, and how they depend on the ambient curvature. In particular, we prove that, in the negative curvature case, minimal Lagrangians do not admit fillings by holomorphic discs. The proof relies on a mix of holomorphic curve techniques and on certain convexity results.
We prove that the length of the boundary of a $J$-holomorphic curve with Lagrangian boundary conditions is dominated by a constant times its area. The constant depends on the symplectic form, the almost complex structure, the Lagrangian boundary conditions and the genus. A similar result holds for the length of the real part of a real $J$-holomorphic curve. The infimum over $J$ of the constant properly normalized gives an invariant of Lagrangian submanifolds. We calculate this invariant to be $2π$ for the Lagrangian submanifold $\mathbb R P^n \subset \mathbb C P^n.$ We apply our result to prov…
We develop Floer theory of Lagrangian torus fibers in compact symplectic toric orbifolds. We first classify holomorphic orbi-discs with boundary on Lagrangian torus fibers. We show that there exists a class of basic discs such that we have one-to-one correspondences between a) smooth basic discs and facets of the moment polytope, and b) between basic orbi-discs and twisted sectors of the toric orbifold. We show that there is a smooth Lagrangian Floer theory of these torus fibers, which has a bulk-deformation by fundamental classes of twisted sectors of the toric orbifold. We show by several ex…
n this paper we define an invariant of a pair of 6 dimensional symplectic %optional manifold with vanishing 1st Chern class and its Lagrangian submanifold with vanishing Maslov index. This invariant is a function on the set of the path connected components of the bounding cochains (solution of A infinity version of Maurer-Cartan equation of the filtered A infinity algebra associated to the Lagrangian submanifold). In the case when the Lagrangian submanifold is a rational homology sphere, it becomes a numerical invariant. This invariant depends on the choice of almost complex structure. The way…
We compute the contribution of all multiple covers of an isolated rigid embedded holomorphic annulus, stretching between Lagrangians, to the skein-valued count of open holomorphic curves in a Calabi-Yau 3-fold. The result agrees with the predictions from topological string theory and we use it to prove the Ooguri-Vafa formula that identifies the colored HOMFLYPT invariants of a link with a count of holomorphic curves ending on the conormal Lagrangian of the link in the resolved conifold. This generalizes our previous work which proved the result for the fundamental color.
Let $(X, ω)$ be a compact symplectic manifold and $L$ be a Lagrangian submanifold. Suppose $(X, L)$ has a Hamiltonian $S^1$ action with moment map $μ$. Take an invariant $ω$-compatible almost complex structure, we consider tuples $(C, P, A, φ)$ where $C$ is a smooth bordered Riemann surface of fixed topological type, $P\to C$ is an $S^1$-principal bundle, $A$ is a connection on $P$ and $φ$ is a section of $P\times_{S^1} X$ satisfying $\ov\partial_A φ=0,\ ι_νF_A+ μ(φ)=c$ with boundary condition $φ(\partial C) \subset P \times_{S^1} L$. Here $F_A$ is the curvature of $A$ and $ν$ is a volume form…
We define rational numbers counting holomorphic disks bounding a complex lagrangian submanifold on a hyperkhaler manifold of real dimension four. We provide a simple a direct proof of Kontsevich-Soibelman Wall Crossing Formula for these rational invariants.
Floer's chain complexes for Lagrangian submanifolds in closed symplectic manifolds are generated by intersection points of Lagrangian submanifolds and whose differentials count pseudo-holomorphic strips with Lagrangian boundary conditions. In this paper we will propose Floer's chain complexes for Lagrangian submanifolds in symplectic manifolds with concave ends.
In previous papers we introduced the notion of special Bohr - Sommerfeld lagrangian cycles on a compact simply connected symplectic manifold with integer symplectic form, and presented the main interesting case: compact simply connected algebraic variety with an ample line bundle such that the space of Bohr - Sommerfeld lagrangian cycles with respect to a compatible Kahler form of the Hodge type and holomorphic sections of the bundle is finite. The main problem appeared in this way is singular components of the corresponding lagrangian shadows (or sceletons of the corresponding Weinstein domai…
Let $L \subset \mathbb R \times J^1(M)$ be a spin, exact Lagrangian cobordism in the symplectization of the 1-jet space of a smooth manifold $M$. Assume that $L$ has cylindrical Legendrian ends $Λ_\pm \subset J^1(M)$. It is well known that the Legendrian contact homology of $Λ_\pm$ can be defined with integer coefficients, via a signed count of pseudo-holomorphic disks in the cotangent bundle of $M$. It is also known that this count can be lifted to a mod 2 count of pseudo-holomorphic disks in the symplectization $\mathbb R \times J^1(M)$, and that $L$ induces a morphism between the $\mathbb Z…
For a one-parameter family of general type hypersurfaces with bases of holomorphic n-forms, we construct open covers using tropical geometry. We show that after normalization, each holomorphic n-form is approximately supported on a unique open component and such a pair approximates a Calabi-Yau hypersurface together with its holomorphic n-form as the parameter becomes large. We also show that the Lagrangian fibers in the fibration constructed by Mikhalkin are asymptotically special Lagrangian. As the holomorphic n-form plays an important role in mirror symmetry for Calabi-Yau manifolds, our re…
We prove that all Lagrangian spheres in S^2 x S^2 are Hamiltonian isotopic. The proof uses various properties of holomorphic curves in symplectic manifolds with cylindrical ends which were recently developed in connection with the Symplectic Field Theory.
Let X be the Fermat quintic threefold. The set of real solutions L forms a Lagrangian submanifold of X. Multiplying the homogeneous coordinates of X by various fifth roots of unity gives automorphisms of X; the images of L under these automorphisms defines a family of 625 different Lagrangian submanifolds, called real Lagrangians. In this paper we try to calculate the Floer cohomology between all pairs of these Lagrangians. We are able to complete most of the calculations, but there are a few cases we cannot do. The basic idea is to explicitly describe some low energy moduli spaces and then us…
Let M be a symplectic manifold equipped with a Hamiltonian circle action and let L be an invariant Lagrangian submanifold of M. We study the problem of counting holomorphic disc sections of the trivial M-bundle over a disc with boundary in L through degeneration. We obtain a conjectural relationship between the potential function of L and the Seidel element associated to the circle action. When applied to a Lagrangian torus fibre of a semi-positive toric manifold, this degeneration argument reproduces a conjecture (now a theorem) of Chan-Lau-Leung-Tseng relating certain correction terms appear…
A Lagrangian submanifold in an almost Calabi-Yau manifold is called positive if the real part of the holomorphic volume form restricted to it is positive. An exact isotopy class of positive Lagrangian submanifolds admits a natural Riemannian metric. We compute the Riemann curvature of this metric and show all sectional curvatures are non-positive. The motivation for our calculation comes from mirror symmetry. Roughly speaking, an exact isotopy class of positive Lagrangians corresponds under mirror symmetry to the space of Hermitian metrics on a holomorphic vector bundle. The latter space is an…
We prove that for any compact Lagrangian submanifold intersecting an open subset $U$ in tame symplectic manifold $(M,ω)$, the Hofer displacement energy of $L$ from $U$ is positive, provided $L \cap U \neq \emptyset$. We also give an explicitlower bound in terms of an $ε$-regularity type invariant for pseudo-holomorphic curves relative to $L$.
We present techniques, inspired by monodromy considerations, for constructing compact monotone Lagrangians in certain affine hypersurfaces, chiefly of Brieskorn-Pham type. We focus on dimensions 2 and 3, though the constructions generalise to higher ones. The techniques give significant latitude in controlling the homology class, Maslov class and monotonicity constant of the Lagrangian, and a range of possible diffeomorphism types; they are also explicit enough to be amenable to calculations of pseudo-holomorphic curve invariants. Applications include infinite families of monotone Lagrangian $…
We use Floer cohomology to prove the monotone version of a conjecture of Audin: the minimal Maslov number of a monotone Lagrangian torus in C^n is 2. Our approach is based on the study of the quantum cup product on Floer cohomology and in particular the behaviour of Oh's spectral sequence with respect to this product. As further applications we prove existence of holomorphic disks with boundaries on Lagrangians as well as new results on Lagrangian intersections.
We prove a conjecture of Barraud-Cornea for orientable Lagrangian surfaces. As a corollary, we obtain that displaceable Lagrangian 2--tori have finite Gromov width. In order to do so, we adapt the pearl complex of Biran-Cornea to the non-monotone situation based on index restrictions for holomorphic discs.
