We apply some recent developments of Baldoni-DeLoera-Vergne on vector partition functions, to Kostant and Steinberg formulas, in the case of $A_r$. We therefore get a fast {\sc Maple} program that computes for $A_r$: the multiplicity $c_{λ,μ}$ of the weight $μ$ in the representation $V(λ)$ of highest weight $λ$; the multiplicity $c_{λ,μ,ν}$ of the representation $V(ν)$ in $V(λ)\otimes V(μ)$. The computation also gives the locally polynomial functions $c_{λ,μ}$ and $c_{λ,μ,ν}$.
We give asymptotic formulas for the multiplicities of weights and irreducible summands in high-tensor powers $V_λ^{\otimes N}$ of an irreducible representation $V_λ$ of a compact connected Lie group $G$. The weights are allowed to depend on $N$, and we obtain several regimes of pointwise asymptotics, ranging from a central limit region to a large deviations region. We use a complex steepest descent method that applies to general asymptotic counting problems for lattice paths with steps in a convex polytope.
Lascoux, Leclerc and Thibon\cite{LLT} introduced a family of symmetric polynomials, called LLT polynomials. We prove a $q$-multinomial expansion of the coefficients of LLT polynomials in the case where $ \boldsymbolμ = \underbrace{(μ,...,μ)}_{n}$ and define a $q$-analog of a sum of the plethysm multiplicities.
We study the relationship between the tensor product multiplicities of a compact semisimple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ and a special function $\mathcal{J}$ associated to $\mathfrak{g}$, called the volume function. The volume function arises in connection with the randomized Horn's problem in random matrix theory and has a related significance in symplectic geometry. Building on box spline deconvolution formulae of Dahmen-Micchelli and De Concini-Procesi-Vergne, we develop new techniques for computing the multiplicities from $\mathcal{J}$, answering a question posed by Coquereaux and Zuber. The partition algebra $\mathsf{P}_k(n)$ and the symmetric group $\mathsf{S}_n$ are in Schur-Weyl duality on the $k$-fold tensor power $\mathsf{M}_n^{\otimes k}$ of the permutation module $\mathsf{M}_n$ of $\mathsf{S}_n$, so there is a surjection $\mathsf{P}_k(n) \to \mathsf{Z}_k(n) := \mathsf{End}_{\mathsf{S}_n}(\mathsf{M}_n^{\otimes k}),$ which is an isomorphism when $n \ge 2k$. We prove a dimension formula for the irreducible modules of the centralizer algebra $\mathsf{Z}_k(n)$ in terms of Stirling numbers of the second kind. Via Schur-Weyl duality, these dimensions equal the multiplicities …
The Kostka-Foulkes polynomials $K$ related to a root system $ϕ$ can be defined as alternated sums running over the Weyl group associated to $ϕ.$ By restricting these sums over the elements of the symmetric group when $% ϕ$ is of type $B,C$ or $D$, we obtain again a class $\widetilde{K}$ of Kostka-Foulkes polynomials. When $ϕ$ is of type $C$ or $D$ there exists a duality beetween these polynomials and some natural $q$-multiplicities $U$ in tensor product \cite{lec}. In this paper we first establish identities for the $\widetilde{K}$ which implies in particular that they can be decomposed as sum…

We obtain a family of explicit "polyhedral" combinatorial expressions for multiplicities in the tensor product of two simple finite-dimensional modules over a complex semisimple Lie algebra. Here "polyhedral" means that the multiplicity in question is expressed as the number of lattice points in some convex polytope. Our answers use a new combinatorial concept of $\ii$-trails which resemble Littelmann's paths but seem to be more tractable. We also study combinatorial structure of Lusztig's canonical bases or, equivalently of Kashiwara's global bases. Although Lusztig's and Kashiwara's approach…
For each valued quiver $Q$ of Dynkin type, we construct a valued ice quiver $Δ_Q^2$. Let $G$ be a simple connected Lie group with Dynkin diagram the underlying valued graph of $Q$. The upper cluster algebra of $Δ_Q^2$ is graded by the triple dominant weights $(μ,ν,λ)$ of $G$. We prove that when $G$ is simply-laced, the dimension of each graded component counts the tensor multiplicity $c_{μ,ν}^λ$. We conjecture that this is also true if $G$ is not simply-laced, and sketch a possible approach. Using this construction, we improve Berenstein-Zelevinsky's model, or in some sense generalize Knutson-…
We generalize the character formulas for multiplicities of irreducible constituents from group theory to semigroup theory using Rota's theory of Möbius inversion. The technique works for a large class of semigroups including: inverse semigroups, semigroups with commuting idempotents, idempotent semigroups and semigroups with basic algebras. Using these tools we are able to give a complete description of the spectra of random walks on finite semigroups admitting a faithful representation by upper triangular matrices over the complex numbers. These include the random walks on chambers of hyperpl…
In this paper we give a combinatorial interpretation for the coefficient of $s_ν$ in the Kronecker product $s_{(n-p,p)}\ast s_λ$, where $λ=(λ_1, ..., λ_{\ell(λ)})\vdash n$, if $\ell(λ)\geq 2p-1$ or $λ_1\geq 2p-1$; that is, if $λ$ is not a partition inside the $2(p-1)\times 2(p-1)$ square. For $λ$ inside the square our combinatorial interpretation provides an upper bound for the coefficients. In general, we are able to combinatorially compute these coefficients for all $λ$ when $n>(2p-2)^2$. We use this combinatorial interpretation to give characterizations for multiplicity free Kronecker produ…
We obtain the decomposition of the tensor space $\mathfrak{sl}_n^{\otimes k}$ as a module for $\mathfrak{sl}_n$, find an explicit formula for the multiplicities of its irreducible summands, and (when $n \ge 2k$) describe the centralizer algebra $C=End_{\mathfrak{sl}_n}(\mathfrak{sl}_n^{\otimes k})$ and its representations. The multiplicities of the irreducible summands are derangement numbers in several important instances, and the dimension of $C$ is given by the number of derangements of a set of $2k$ elements.
The plethysms of the Weyl characters associated to a classical Lie group by the symmetric functions stabilize in large rank. In the case of a power sum plethysm, we prove that the coefficients of the decomposition of this stabilized form on the basis of Weyl characters are branching coefficients which can be determined by a simple algorithm. This generalizes in particular some classical results by Littlewood on the power sum plethysms of Schur functions. We also establish explicit formulas for the outer multiplicities appearing in the decomposition of the tensor square of any irreducible finit…
We investigate the problem of computing tensor product multiplicities for complex semisimple Lie algebras. Even though computing these numbers is #P-hard in general, we show that if the rank of the Lie algebra is assumed fixed, then there is a polynomial time algorithm, based on counting the lattice points in polytopes. In fact, for Lie algebras of type A_r, there is an algorithm, based on the ellipsoid algorithm, to decide when the coefficients are nonzero in polynomial time for arbitrary rank. Our experiments show that the lattice point algorithm is superior in practice to the standard techn…
In this paper we give a direct proof of the equality of certain generating function associated with tensor product multiplicities of Kirillov-Reshetikhin modules for each simple Lie algebra g. Together with the theorems of Nakajima and Hernandez, this gives the proof of the combinatorial version of the Kirillov-Reshetikhin conjecture, which gives tensor product multiplicities in terms of restricted fermionic summations.

We decompose the $\hat{\mathfrak{sl}}(n)$-module $V(Λ_0) \otimes V(Λ_0)$ and give generating function identities for the outer multiplicities. In the process we discover some seemingly new partition identities in the cases $n=2,3$.
We consider a large class of series of symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebras (generically denoted X_n). This includes the classical series A_n as well as others like E_n whose members are of Indefinite type. The focus is to analyze the behavior of representations in the large n limit. Motivated by the classical theory of A_n, we consider tensor product decompositions of irreducible highest weight representations of X_n and study how these vary with n. The notion of ``double headed'' dominant weights is introduced. For such weights, we show that tensor product decompositions in X_n do stabilize, gen…
Kostka-Foulkes polynomials are Lusztig's $q$-analogues of weight multiplicities for irreducible representations of semisimple Lie algebras. It has long been known that these polynomials have non-negative coefficients. A statistic on semistandard Young tableaux with partition content, called \textit{charge}, was used to give a combinatorial formula exhibiting this fact in type $A$. Defining a charge statistic beyond type $A$ has been a long-standing problem. Here, we take a completely new approach based on the definition of Kostka-Foulkes polynomials as an alternating sum over Kostant partition…
For $k\ge 1$, the homogeneous symmetric functions $G(k,m)$ of degree $m$ defined by $\sum_{m\ge 0} G(k,m) z^m=\prod_{i\ge 1} \big(1+x_iz+x^2_iz^2+\cdots+x^{k-1}_iz^{k-1}\big)$ are called \emph{Petrie symmetric functions}. As derived by Grinberg and Fu--Mei independently, the expansion of $G(k,m)$ in the basis of Schur functions $s_λ$ turns out to be signed multiplicity free, i.e., the coefficients are $-1$, $0$ and $1$. In this paper we give a combinatorial interpretation of the coefficient of $s_λ$ in terms of the $k$-core of $λ$ and a sequence of rim hooks of size $k$ removed from $λ$. We fu…
These notes are an expanded version of a talk given by the second author. Our main interest is focused on the challenging problem of computing Kronecker coefficients. We decided, at the beginning, to take a very general approach to the problem of studying multiplicity functions, and we survey the various aspects of the theory that comes into play, giving a detailed bibliography to orient the reader. Nonetheless the main general theorems involving multiplicities functions (convexity, quasi-polynomial behavior, Jeffrey-Kirwan residues) are stated without proofs. Then, we present in detail our ap…
We discuss some applications of signature quantization to the representation theory of compact Lie groups. In particular, we prove signature analogues of the Kostant formula for weight multiplicities and the Steinberg formula for tensor product multiplicities. Using symmetric functions, we also find, for type A, analogues of the Weyl branching rule and the Gelfand-Tsetlin theorem. These analogues involve a q-analogue of the Kostant partition function. We show that in type A, this q-analogue is polynomial in the relative interior of the cells of a complex of cones. This chamber complex can be t…
We show that a monic univariate polynomial over a field of characteristic zero, with $k$ distinct non-zero known roots, is determined by its $k$ proper leading coefficients by providing an explicit algorithm for computing the multiplicities of each root. We provide a version of the result and accompanying algorithm when the field is not algebraically closed by considering the minimal polynomials of the roots. Furthermore, we show how to perform the aforementioned algorithm in a numerically stable manner over $\mathbb{C}$, and then apply it to obtain new characteristic polynomials of hypergraph…
We study polynomial SL-invariants of tensors, mainly focusing on fundamental invariants which are of smallest degrees. In particular, we prove that certain 3-dimensional analogue of the Alon--Tarsi conjecture on Latin cubes considered previously by Bürgisser and Ikenmeyer, implies positivity of (generalized) Kronecker coefficients at rectangular partitions and as a result provides values for degree sequences of fundamental invariants.
Clustering coefficient is one of the most useful indices in complex networks. However, graph theoretic properties of this metric have not been discussed much in the literature, especially in graphs resulting from some binary operations. In this paper we present some expressions for the clustering coefficient of the tensor product of arbitrary graphs, regular graphs, and strongly regular graphs. A Vizing-type upperbound and a sharp lower bound for the clustering coefficient of the tensor product of graphs are also given.
