In this paper an analytic proof of a generalization of a theorem of Bismut ([Bis1, Theorem 5.1]) is given, which says that, when $v$ is a transversal holomorphic vector field on a compact complex manifold $X$ with a zero point set $Y$, the embedding $j:Y\to X$ induces a natural isomorphism between the holomorphic equivariant cohomology of $X$ via $v$ with coefficients in $ξ$ and the Dolbeault cohomology of $Y$ with coefficients in $ξ|_Y$, where $ξ\to X$ is a holomorphic vector bundle over $X$.
In this expository paper, we explain a formula for the multiplicities of the index of an equivariant transversally elliptic operator on a $G$-manifold. The formula is a sum of integrals over blowups of the strata of the group action and also involves eta invariants of associated elliptic operators. Among the applications is an index formula for basic Dirac operators on Riemannian foliations, a problem that was open for many years. This paper summarizes the work in the papers arXiv:1005.3845 [math.DG] and arXiv:1008.1757 [math.DG].
Let $M$ be an irreducible smooth complex projective variety equipped with an action of a compact Lie group $G$, and let $({\mathcal L},h)$ be a $G$-equivariant holomorphic Hermitian line bundle on $M$. Given a compact connected Riemann surface $X$, we construct a $G$-equivariant holomorphic Hermitian line bundle $(L\,,H)$ on $X\times M$ (the action of $G$ on $X$ is trivial), such that the corresponding Quillen determinant line bundle $({\mathcal Q}, h_Q)$, which is a $G$--equivariant holomorphic Hermitian line bundle on $M$, is isomorphic to the given $G$--equivariant holomorphic Hermitian lin…
We prove a localization formula for a "holomorphic equivariant cohomology" attached to the Atiyah algebroid of an equivariant holomorphic vector bundle. This generalizes Feng-Ma, Carrell-Liebermann, Baum-Bott and K. Liu's localization formulas.
Atiyah's classical work on circular symmetry and stationary phase shows how the $\hat{A}$-genus is obtained by formally applying the equivariant cohomology localization formula to the loop space of a simply connected spin manifold. The same technique, applied to a suitable ''antiholomorphic sector'' in the $\mathbb{C}/Λ$-equivariant cohomology of the conformal double loop space $\mathrm{Maps}(\mathbb{C}/Λ,X)$ of a rationally string manifold $X$ produces the Witten genus of $X$. This can be seen as an equivariant localization counterpart to Berwick-Evans supersymmetric localization derivation o…
We prove the equivariant holomorphic Morse inequalities for a holomorphic torus action on a holomorphic vector bundle over a compact Kahler manifold when the fixed-point set is not necessarily discrete. Such inequalities bound the twisted Dolbeault cohomologies of the Kahler manifold in terms of those of the fixed-point set. We apply the inequalities to obtain relations of Hodge numbers of the connected components of the fixed-point set and the whole manifold. We also investigate the consequences in geometric quantization, especially in the context of symplectic cutting.
Let F be a Kähler foliation on a compact Riemannian manifold M. we study the properties of infinitesimal automorphisms on (M,F), and in particular we concentrate on the transversal conformal field, transversal projective field and transversally holomorphic field
Assume that the circle group acts holomorphically on a compact Kähler manifold with isolated fixed points and that the action can be lifted holomorphically to a holomorphic Hermitian vector bundle. We give a heat kernel proof of the equivariant holomorphic Morse inequalities. We use some techniques developed by Bismut and Lebeau. These inequalities, first obtained by Witten using a different argument, produce bounds on the multiplicities of weights occurring in the twisted Dolbeault cohomologies in terms of the data of the fixed points.
We will discuss the equivariant cohomology of a manifold endowed with the action of a Lie group. Localization formulae for equivariant integrals are explained by a vanishing theorem for equivariant cohomology with generalized coefficients. We then give applications to integration of characteristic classes on symplectic quotients and to indices of transversally elliptic operators. In particular, we state a conjecture for the index of a transversally elliptic operator linked to a Hamiltonian action. In the last part, we describe algorithms for numerical computations of values of multivariate spl…
The space of Fredholm operators of fixed index is stratified by submanifolds according to the dimension of the kernel. Geometric considerations often lead to questions about the intersections of concrete families of elliptic operators with these submanifolds: are the intersections non-empty? are they smooth? what are their codimensions? The purpose of this article is to develop tools to address these questions in equivariant situations. An important motivation for this work are transversality questions for multiple covers of $J$-holomorphic maps. As an application, we use our framework to give…
In this article we prove first of all the nonexistence of holomorphic submersions other than covering maps between compact quotients of complex unit balls, with a proof that works equally well in a more general equivariant setting. For a non-equidimensional surjective holomorphic map between compact ball quotients, our method applies to show that the set of critical values must be nonempty and of codimension 1. In the equivariant setting the line of arguments extend to holomorphic mappings of maximal rank into the complex projective space or the complex Euclidean space, yielding in the latter …
From 1980s, it is an open problem of proposing cohomologic formula for the basic index of a transversally elliptic basic differential operator on a vector bundle over a foliated manifold. In 1990s, El Kacimi-Alaoui has proprosed to use the Molino theory for study this index. Molino has proved that to every transversally oriented Riemannien foliation, we can associate a manifold, called basique manifold, which is équiped with an action of orthogonal group, El Kacimi-Alaoui has shown how to associate a transversally elliptic basic differential operator an operator on a vector bundle, called usef…
Let $M=G/K$ be a Hermitian symmetric space of noncompact type. We provide a way of constructing $K$-equivariant embeddings from $M$ to its tangent space $T_oM$ at the origin by using the polarity of the $K$-action. As an application, we reconstruct the $K$-equivariant holomorphic embedding so called the Harish-Chandra realization and the $K$-equivariant symplectomorphism constructed by Di Scala-Loi and Roos under appropriate identifications of spaces. Moreover, we characterize the holomorphic/symplectic embedding of $M$ by means of the polarity of the $K$-action. Furthermore, we show a special…
Given a complex manifold $M$ equipped with a holomorphic action of a connected complex Lie group $G$, and a holomorphic principal $H$--bundle $E_H$ over $X$ equipped with a $G$--connection $h$, we investigate the connections on the principal $H$--bundle $E_H$ that are (strongly) adapted to $h$. Examples are provided by holomorphic principal $H$--bundles equipped with a flat partial connection over a foliated manifold.
In this paper we define strongly projectively flatness of holomorphic maps into the complex Grassmannian manifold, which is a kind of generalization of holomorphic maps into the complex projective space and prove a rigidity of equivariant strongly projectively flat maps of compact simply connected homogeneous Kähler manifolds.
We extend the equivariant holomorphic Morse inequalities of circle actions to cases with torus and non-Abelian group actions on holomorphic vector bundles over Kahler manifolds and show the necessity of the Kahler condition. For torus actions, there is a set of inequalities for each choice of action chambers specifying directions in the Lie algebra of the torus. We apply the results to invariant line bundles over toric manifolds. If the group is non-Abelian, there is in addition an action of the Weyl group on the fixed-point set of its maximal torus. The sum over the fixed points can be rearra…
Let $X$ be a CR manifold with transversal, proper CR $G$-action. We show that $X/G$ is a complex space such that the quotient map is a CR map. Moreover the quotient is universal, i.e. every invariant CR map into a complex manifold factorises uniquely over a holomorphic map on $X/G$. We then use this result and complex geometry to proof an embedding theorem for (non-compact) strongly pseudoconvex CR manifolds with transversal $G \rtimes S^1$-action. The methods of the proof are applied to obtain a projective embedding theorem for compact CR manifolds.
In this paper we study gauge theory on SL(2,C)-equivariant bundles over XxP^1, where X is a compact Kahler manifold, P^1 is the complex projective line, and the action of SL(2,C) is trivial on X and standard on P^1. We first classify these bundles, showing that they are in correspondence with objects on X - that we call holomorphic chains - consisting of a finite number of holomorphic bundles E_i and morphisms E_i->E_{i-1}. We then prove a Hitchin-Kobayashi correspondence relating the existence of solutions to certain natural gauge-theoretic equations and an appropriate notion of stability for…
It has been argued by Witten and others that in the presence of a nontrivial B-field, D-brane charges in type IIB string theories are measured by twisted K-theory. In joint work with Bouwknegt, Carey and Murray it was proved that twisted K-theory is canonically isomorphic to bundle gerbe K-theory, whose elements are ordinary vector bundles on a principal projective unitary bundle, with an action of the bundle gerbe determined by the principal projective unitary bundle. The principal projective unitary bundle is in turn determined by the twist. In this paper, we study in more detail the Chern-W…
We prove a normal form theorem for Poisson structures around Poisson transversals (also called cosymplectic submanifolds), which simultaneously generalizes Weinstein's symplectic neighborhood theorem from symplectic geometry and Weinstein's splitting theorem. Our approach turns out to be essentially canonical, and as a byproduct, we obtain an equivariant version of the latter theorem.
In this note the fractional analytic index, for a projective elliptic operator associated to an Azumaya bundle, of DG/0402329 is related to the equivariant index of Atiyah and Singer for an associated transversally elliptic operator.
In these survey lectures, we investigate the geometric and analytic properties of transverse Dirac operators. In particular, we define a transverse Dirac operator associated to a distribution that is essentially self-adjoint (Prokhorenkov-R result). We describe the Habib-R Theorem showing that the invariance of the spectrum of a basic Dirac operator on a Riemannian foliation. The Bruening-Kamber-R theorems give Atiyah-Singer type formulas for the equivariant index of transversally elliptic operators on G-manifolds and the index of basic Dirac operators on Riemannian foliations. These notes con…
These notes are the first chapter of a monograph, dedicated to a detailed proof of the equivariant index theorem for transversally elliptic operators. In this preliminary chapter, we prove a certain number of natural relations in equivariant cohomology. These relations include the Thom isomorphism in equivariant cohomology, the multiplicativity of the relative Chern characters, and the Riemann-Roch relation between the relative Chern character of the Bott symbol and of the relative Thom class.
We use virtual neighborhood technique to establish GW-invariants, Quantum cohomology, equivariant GW-invariants, equivariant quantum cohomology and Floer cohomology for general symplectic manifold. We also establish GW-invariants for a family of symplectic manifolds. As a consequence, we prove Arnold conjecture for nondegenerate Hamiltonian symplectomorphisms.
In this expository article, we consider first order elliptic differential operators acting on smooth vector bundles over compact manifolds, and certain invariants derived from the analysis of these operators, namely the eta invariant} and the equivariant index. Many researchers have previously considered these invariants before. What makes this work different is that we are evaluating integer-valued indices corresponding to multiplicities of group representations, and our eta invariant is a number dependent on the entire group at once. Moreover, the techniques of proof and formulas obtained ar…
These notes form the next episode in a series of articles dedicated to a detailed proof of a cohomological index formula for transversally elliptic pseudo-differential operators and applications. The first two chapters are already available as math.DG/0702575 and arXiv:0711.3898. In this episode, we construct the relative equivariant Chern character of a morphism of vector bundles, localized by a one form, and we prove a multiplicativity property of this generalized Chern character
The equivariant holomorphic torsion of a compact locally symmetric manifold and an automorphism is expressed as a special value of a zeta function built out of geometric data (closed geodesics) of the manifold.
We prove that a primitive harmonic map is equivariant if and only if it admits a holomorphic potential of degree one. We investigate when the equivariant harmonic map is periodic, and as an application discuss constant mean curvature cylinders with screw motion symmetries.
For a closed Kähler manifold with a Hamiltonian action of a connected compact Lie group by holomorphic isometries, we construct a formal Frobenius manifold structure on the equivariant cohomology by exploiting a natural DGBV algebra structure on the Cartan model.
We consider a compact connected CR manifold with a transversal CR locally free $\mathbb R$-action endowed with a rigid positive CR line bundle. We prove that a certain weighted Fourier-Szegő kernel of the CR sections in the high tensor powers admits a full asymptotic expansion and we establish $\mathbb R$-equivariant Kodaira embedding theorem for CR manifolds. Using similar methods we also establish an analytic proof of an $\mathbb R$-equivariant Boutet de Monvel embedding theorem for strongly pseudoconvex CR manifolds. In particular, we obtain equivariant embedding theorems for irregular Sasa…
This paper gives a construction for all minimal immersions $f$ of the Poincaré disc into the complex hyperbolic plane $\mathbb{CH}^2$ which are equivariant with respect to an irreducible representation $ρ$ of a hyperbolic surface group into $PU(2,1)$. We exploit the fact that each such immersion is a twisted conformal harmonic map and therefore has a corresponding Higgs bundle. We identify the structure of these Higgs bundles and show how each is determined by properties of the map, including the induced metric and a holomorphic cubic differential on the surface. We show that the moduli space …
Let M be a spin manifold with a circular action. Given an elliptic curve E, we introduce, as in Grojnowski, elliptic bouquets of germs of holomorphic equivariant cohomology classes on M. Following Bott-Taubes and Rosu, we show that integration of an elliptic bouquet is well defined. In particular, this imply Witten's rigidity theorem. We emphasize the similarity between integration in K-theory and in elliptic cohomology.
In this article, we start to recall the inversion formula for the convolution with the Box spline. The equivariant cohomology and the equivariant K-theory with respect to a compact torus G of various spaces associated to a linear action of G in a vector space M can be both described using some vector spaces of distributions, on the dual of the group G or on the dual of its Lie algebra. The morphism from K-theory to cohomology is analyzed and the multiplication by the Todd class is shown to correspond to the operator (deconvolution) inverting the semidiscrete convolution with a box spline. Fina…
Let $\mathcal{O}(D)$ be an equivariant line bundle which is big and nef on a complex projective nonsingular toric variety $X$. Given a continuous toric metric $\|\cdot\|$ on $\mathcal{O}(D)$, we define the energy at equilibrium of $(X,ϕ_{\bar{D}})$ where $ϕ_{\bar{D}}$ is the weight of the metrized toric divisor $\bar{D}=(D,\|\cdot\|)$. We show that this energy describes the asymptotic behaviour as $k\rightarrow \infty$ of the volume of the $L^2$-norm unit ball induced by $(X,kϕ_{\bar{D}})$ on the space of global holomorphic sections $H^0(X,\mathcal{O}(kD))$.
In this paper we give detailed construction of $G$-equivariant Kuranishi chart of moduli spaces of pseudo-holomorphic curves to a symplectic manifold with $G$-action, for an arbitrary compact Lie group $G$. The proof is based on the deformation theory of {\it unstable} marked curves using the language of Lie groupoid (which is {\it not} necessary etale) and the Riemannnian center of mass technique. This proof is actually similar to [FOn,Sections 13 and 15] except the usage of the language of Lie groupoid makes the argument more transparent. This version correct some errors of the previous vers…
