We introduce and begin to analyse a class of algebras, associated to congruence subgroups, that extend both the algebra of modular forms of all levels and the ring of classical Hecke operators. At the intuitive level, these are algebras of `polynomial coordinates' for the `transverse space' of lattices modulo the action of the Hecke correspondences. Their underlying symmetry is shown to be encoded by the same Hopf algebra that controls the transverse geometry of codimension 1 foliations. Its action is shown to span the `holomorphic tangent space' of the noncommutative space, and each of its three basic Hopf cyclic cocycles acquires a specific meaning. The Schwarzian 1-cocycle gives an inner derivation implemented by the level 1 Eisenstein series of weight 4. The Hopf cyclic 2-cocycle representing the transverse fundamental class provides a natural extension of the first Rankin-Cohen bracket to the modular Hecke algebras. Lastly, the Hopf cyclic version of the Godbillon-Vey cocycle gives rise to a 1-cocycle on PSL(2, Q) with values in Eisenstein series of weight 2, which when coupled with the `period' cocycle yields a representative of the Euler class.
We settle in this paper a question left open in our paper ``Modular Hecke algebras and their Hopf symmetry'', by showing how to extend the Rankin-Cohen brackets from modular forms to modular Hecke algebras. More generally, our procedure yields such brackets on any associative algebra endowed with an action of the Hopf algebra of transverse geometry in codimension one, such that the derivation corresponding to the Schwarzian derivative is inner. Moreover, we show in full generality that these Rankin-Cohen brackets give rise to associative deformations.
Let $W$ be a Coxeter group. The goal of the paper is to construct new Hopf algebras that contain Hecke algebras $H_{\bf q}(W)$ as (left) coideal subalgebras. Our Hecke-Hopf algebras ${\bf H}(W)$ have a number of applications. In particular they provide new solutions of quantum Yang-Baxter equation and lead to a construction of a new family of endo-functors of the category of $H_{\bf q}(W)$-modules. Hecke-Hopf algebras for the symmetric group are related to Fomin-Kirillov algebras, for an arbitrary Coxeter group $W$ the "Demazure" part of ${\bf H}(W)$ is being acted upon by generalized braided …
We associate canonically a cyclic module to any Hopf algebra endowed with a modular pair, consisting of a group-like element and a character, in involution. This provides the key construct allowing to extend cyclic cohomology to Hopf algebras in the non-unimodular case and further to develop a theory of characteristic classes for actions of Hopf algebras compatible not only with traces but also with the modular theory of weights. It applies to ribbon and to coribbon algebras, as well as to quantum groups and their duals.
We introduce a generalization of degenerate affine Hecke algebra, called wreath Hecke algebra, associated to an arbitrary finite group G. The simple modules of the wreath Hecke algebra and of its associated cyclotomic algebras are classified over an algebraically closed field of any characteristic p. The modular branching rules for these algebras are obtained, and when p does not divide the order of G, they are further identified with crystal graphs of integrable modules for quantum affine algebras. The key is to establish an equivalence between a module category of the (cyclotomic) wreath Hec…
The aim of this short note is to communicate an example of a finite-dimensional Hopf algebra that does not admit a modular pair in involution in the sense of Connes and Moscovici.
A quantum group of type A is defined as a Hopf algebra associated to a Hecke symmetry. We show the homology of a Koszul complex associated to the Hecke symmetry is one dimensional and determines a group-like element in the Hopf algebra. This group-like element can be interpreted as a homological determinant as suggested by Yu. Manin.
We construct modular categories from Hecke algebras at roots of unity. For a special choice of the framing parameter, we recover the Reshetikhin-Turaev invariants of closed 3-manifolds constructed from the quantum groups U_q sl(N) by Reshetikhin-Turaev and Turaev-Wenzl, and from skein theory by Yokota. We then discuss the choice of the framing parameter. This leads, for any rank N and level K, to a modular category \tilde H^{N,K} and a reduced invariant \tildeτ_{N,K}. If N and K are coprime, then this invariant coincides with the known PSU(N) invariant at level K. If gcd(N,K)=d>1, then we show…
Ian Grojnowski has developed a purely algebraic way to connect the representation theory of affine Hecke algebras at an (l+1)-th root of unity to the highest weight theory of the affine Kac-Moody algebra of type A_l^(1). The present article is devoted to extending Grojnowski's machinery to the twisted case: we replace the affine Hecke algebras with the affine Hecke-Clifford superalgebras of Jones and Nazarov, and the Kac-Moody algebra A_l^(1) with the twisted algebra A_2l^(2). In particular, we obtain an algebraic construction purely in terms of the representation theory of Hecke-Clifford supe…
We focus on the problem of producing new modular tensor categories from Hopf algebras. To do this, we first give a general method to construct factorizable Hopf algebras. Then we apply the method to construct two families of ribbon factorizable Hopf algebras which are not quantum groups or Drinfel'd double. One family are point Hopf algebras which give non-semisimple modular tensor categories, while the other family are C^*-Hopf algebras which give new unitary modular tensor categories. Lastly, we determine the fusion rings of these unitary modular tensor categories.
We review and motivate recently-observed relationships between exactly solvable lattice models and modular representations of Hecke algebras. Firstly, we describe how the set of $n$-regular partitions label both of the following classes of objects: 1. The spectrum of unrestricted solid-on-solid lattice models based on level-1 representations of the affine algebras $\sl_n$, 2. The irreducible representations of type-A Hecke algebras at roots of unity: $H_m(\sqrt[n]{1})$. Secondly, we show that a certain subset of the $n$-regular partitions label both of the following classes of objects: 1. The …
We generalize the Hopf algebras of free quasisymmetric functions, quasisymmetric functions, noncommutative symmetric functions, and symmetric functions to certain representations of the category of all finite Coxeter systems and its dual category. We investigate their connections with the representation theory of 0-Hecke algebras of finite Coxeter systems. Restricted to type B and D we obtain dual graded modules and comodules over the corresponding Hopf algebras in type A.
We develop abstract nonsense for module categories over monoidal categories (this is a straightforward categorification of modules over rings). As applications we show that any semisimple monoidal category with finitely many simple objects is equivalent to the category of representations of a weak Hopf algebra (theorem of T. Hayashi) and classify module categories over the fusion category of $\hat{sl}(2)$ at a positive integer level where we meet once again ADE classification pattern.
For a certain kind of tensor functor $F: \mathcal{C} \to \mathcal{D}$, we define the relative modular object $χ_F \in \mathcal{D}$ as the "difference" between a left adjoint and a right adjoint of $F$. Our main result claims that, if $\mathcal{C}$ and $\mathcal{D}$ are finite tensor categories, then $χ_F$ can be written in terms of a categorical analogue of the modular function on a Hopf algebra. Applying this result to the restriction functor associated to an extension $A/B$ of finite-dimensional Hopf algebras, we recover the result of Fischman, Montgomery and Schneider on the Frobenius type …
Let H be a Hopf algebra. By definition a modular crossed H-module is a vector space M on which H acts and coacts in a compatible way. To every modular crossed H-module M we associate a cyclic object Z(H,M). The cyclic homology of Z(H,M) extends the usual cyclic homology of the algebra structure of H, and the relative cyclic homology of an H-Galois extension. For a Hopf subalgebra K we compute, under some assumptions, the cyclic homology of an induced modular crossed module. As a direct application of this computation, we describe the relative cyclic homology of strongly graded algebras. In par…
In a previous paper the authors constructed a class of quasi-Hopf algebras $D^ω(G, A)$ associated to a finite group $G$, generalizing the twisted quantum double construction. We gave necessary and sufficient conditions, cohomological in nature, that the corresponding module category $Rep(D^ω(G, A))$ is a modular tensor category.\ In the present paper we verify the cohomological conditions for the class of groups $G$ which \emph{contain a unique involution}, and in this way we obtain an explicit construction of a new class of modular quasi-Hopf algebras.\ We develop the basic theory for general…
We show that the Hopf link invariants for an appropriate set of finite dimensional representations of $ U_q SL(2)$ are identical, up to overall normalisation, to the modular S matrix of Kac and Wakimoto for rational $k$ $\widehat {sl(2)}$ representations. We use this observation to construct new modular Hopf algebras, for any root of unity $q=e^{-iπm/r}$, obtained by taking appropriate quotients of $U_q SL(2)$, that give rise to 3-manifold invariants according to the approach of Reshetikin and Turaev. The phase factor correcting for the `framing anomaly' in these invariants is equal to $ e^{- …
